The history of the O’Brien family is as rich and complex as the land that bore them. They are as fierce as they are loyal, but when a horrific tragedy casts a shadow over their tight-knit clan, it leaves an empty seat at their table. Liam O’Brien fled from Ireland in the wake of unspeakable loss. Fresh out of medical school, he’s accepted a position with a medical mission in Brazil as their infectious disease specialist. But as he entrenches himself in his work at Saint Clare’s Charity Mission, along the banks of the Amazon River, he grows more disconnected from the family who loves him. He also learns more about being a doctor than he ever thought possible. Working alongside a skeleton crew at the orphanage and hospital, he finds himself doing everything from delivering babies to treating the indigenous tribes living deep within the forest. Unable to break the cycle of bitterness and grief, Liam has some unwanted intervention from both the feisty, no-nonsense abbess as well as an unexpected but familiar addition to the medical team. Amidst the rampant disease, drug trafficking, and deadly creatures of the Amazon, two doctors find a sense of purpose and learn the true meaning of sacrifice. As Liam begins to emerge from his fog of sorrow, his heart is resurrected in the depths of a lush and disappearing rainforest.
Stacey Reynolds began writing after a trip to Europe, where she was bewitched by the coastal counties of Western Ireland. She lives on the coast of North Carolina with three of her five children and her dashing husband, a retired Marine Officer. Oh right in the feels! From start to finish this book is gripping! For anyone who needs to feel a part of a family this series is for you! Absolutely great!
Stacey Reynolds has done it again! Her newest novel, River Angels, has transcended all of my expectations. Her writing continues to evolve with each book. Just when I think her descriptions can’t get more specific, drawing me to the very locations I’m visiting in her stories, I’m proven wrong. In this latest narrative, you’ll visit Brazil as the primary setting. You’ll be amazed at the wisdom the author has gained on the terrain, geography, animals & creepy crawlies, that she has worked into the story line to draw you right in. Her character development is descriptive enough that you’ll call them family. As always, we still get that touch of Ireland, this is an O’Brien Tale after all, and updates on all those previous characters we’ve grown attached to. My greatest disappointment was that it ended. Impatiently awaiting the next installment!
Interesting complicated characters who cheep you wanting more. Love the O'Brien Series. I think you will be surprised by the deep storyline and the secondary characters who make up the entire tale. You will be wanting more of the O'Brien's!
Like a fine wine or a delicious cheese, StacEy Reynolds continues to get better and better. River Angels, book #4 of the O’Brien Tales, is her best work yet! If you’re looking for fluff and smut, you won’t find it here! Don’t be too disappointed though, you will find some really hot Irish sex scenes! Like book 3, Ms. Reynolds takes a very serious situation, a very real life event and combines them with a very detailed scenic backdrop. She continues to develop her characters in such an intimate way that I’m right there with them, I feel what they’re feeling and I mourn their loss after finishing the book. I still wonder about previous characters, mostly Michael, Aidan, Tadgh.......ok all the men, but the female characters too feel like sisters or great friends that I miss. I really loved Izzy’s character and admired her strength and courage. I could never do what she did. She is a straight up badass and I actually see a lot of the author portrayed within her.
As usual Ms. Reynolds has a way of transporting you to where the story takes place. I’ve never wanted to go to Ireland so bad! I’ve lived on the NC Coast for years, yet I feel the need to experience it again! And the Amazon............well let’s just say that she did such a great job describing it that I NEVER EVER want to go there! I’m still creeped out by the mosquitos, spiders and ants!! And that ferocious Cheetah! NO THANKS! What I do wish to visit though is that bungalow! WOWZA! She even gave me such a craving for cheese bread that I bought a frozen bag at Costco claiming to be “Brazilian Cheese bites” They were ok. I love that I learn so much in each book too. Whether it be about the region and its geography, historical events, modern day events, foods, etc. I always learn something!
I’m excited to see what comes next! What I love most about this series is the depth it has. How each story is like an onion that you peel back layer after layer revealing more details, suspense, sub plots, intimacy, real life events and situations, etc. Her descriptive narration makes me want to visit MOST places, eat what they’re eating, wear cozy cable knit sweaters and drink Irish Whiskey! Slainte!!

My eyes are still red from the crying, but it was not all sad crying. Plenty of happy, joy-filled crying too! I reread the first three books in the series just before reading this, so all the stories would be fresh, and because I love these characters. I was not disappointed with the fourth of the O'Brien Tales. I love that they are all family, but are so different, and that their stories are similar, yet very different. Does that make sense?! I love a good suspense novel, and this one had that along with the romance I expect from Stacey. I got it delivered to my Kindle on Christmas Eve, and even with all of the holiday activities I was able to finish it by midday Christmas Day. It was a great gift
Tbh, the fact that this book was set in the Amazon and not Ireland or America, didn’t really excite me. Because, really, what’s romantic about the Amazon? But what DID excite me and make me buy this book as soon as possible was another delicious adventure by one of the O’Brien men! And let me tell you- I had no IDEA how sexy the Amazon could be!!!! What I love best about the O’Brien series is that the writer doesn’t do just a rinse and repeat of each book. Instead, she delves deep into each characters weakness, talents, personalities and draws you in with each beautiful crafted word, chapter after chapter. There is always laughter. Always steamy anticipation. Always heartfelt emotions and moments that make your heart clench with how deep you feel these characters happiness and sorrows. I don’t know how she does it but Ms. Reynolds painted such a picture with her words that I felt I have visited the Amazon myself! So if the location of this book makes you want to second guess reading it- push those thoughts aside and snatch this amazing book up! You will love every minute of it and gain a new appreciation for life in the jungle. I absolutely promise!
I was finally able to start reading this book after the Christmas festivities died down. And, it did not disappoint. I couldn’t put the book down. It is already 1:30am and I wanted to finish reading. Initially, I was dubious because the setting was different from the other books but it was great. Now, I am looking forward to the next installment of the series. Kudos, Stacey!
I am already a big fan of this series and eagerly await each new installment. With that being said, when I first heard that this novel was going to take place far from the picturesque landscape of Ireland, I wasn't all that interested. Also, the main character was an O'Brien brother who had just experienced a devastating tragedy. With this series being at its core a romance series, I worried any story-line would feel forced and not fully developed. I was so wrong! Reynolds described the lush Amazon jungle with such beauty and danger, it rose to become an additional character to the story. The O'Brien clan was only briefly featured, but the supporting characters in this novel were developed richly and became as special as previous casts. Izzy and Liam's love story grew quickly, but in such a natural way, the reader was rooting for them and well as loving the new man Liam has become through his tragic past. This was an amazing story of love and redemption. I would greatly recommend this novel (and am so thankful I didn't let my first impressions guide me).
The author has a wonderful way of drawing a reader in. I started with book 1. I adorable all of the characters. I have laughed and cried. Not giving anything away. I am an avid reader. I have read these in little over a week. There is one complaint. Whoever is doing the editing or proof reading is not going a very good job. It throws the rhythm of the book off. Misspelled words. Even one character name was spelled one way and then another. Mad instead of man. It's unfortunate. This has happened in all of the books. Like I wrote. It is a wonderful series and draws you to the characters.
Another gorgeous altogether tale of the O’Briens. When Liam loses his girlfriend to terrorists, he escapes to a medical mission in the Amazon. Neither the sisters or his work gives him peace and he becomes more and more bitter and cold until American navy surgeon, Lizzie, shows up. Fireworks fly when she makes him confront how he’s hurt his family and himself. He hates her, until he doesn’t. O’Brien men never come easy to their mates but once they admit their love, nothing will keep them apart - not drug traffickers, Amazonian natives or even jaguars. Another amazing story from Stacey Reynolds! Can’t wait to start the next one!
A beautiful love story mixed with enough adventure, thrills and atmosphere to keep you up into the wee hours because you cannot put it down.
This was a wonderful story. I loved the tension of the heroes battling inner demons, loss and the jungle itself. Not simply another love story but a story of friendships and healing and finding something worth fighting for even if it might kill you. Very easily a stand-alone story but you may enjoy it more of you are introduced to the main characters in the first three books.
This was one of my favorites of the series. What I liked best about it was the world-building/setting. The Amazon rain forest is a surprising place to find an O'Brien Irish love story but it really worked. Reynold's descriptions of the setting were very sensory and immersive. Izzy and Liam had sparks for days and the side characters were especially engaging, little Genoveva being my favorite. A solid addition to the series.
Ms.Reynolds has done it yet again. Not a whole box of tissues but close. This was an awesome read, the characters, the way she described the area all of it was perfect. I could actually see it all in my mind. The sadness, joy all of it, I couldn’t put it down.I won’t give anything away but I do recommend this chapter of the O’Brien saga and I’m getting ready to start The Wishing Bridge. Thank you again I really enjoyed it.
Loved the heart wrenching story. I felt I was there in Brazil. Couldn’t put this one down - kept getting up in the middle of the night to read until I couldn’t keep my eyes open!
I spent 3 months in Brazil for work - in São Paulo but I loved the Portuguese language. My only comment about it in this book is as if a female is saying thank you, you need to use the feminine version. It’s obrigada not obrigado.
I could not put it down. Stacey Reynolds is arguably one of the most talented writers of the 21st century. Her style is original and vibrant. The characters have depth and are relatable. I was rooting for these two from the beginning, even as my heart twisted for his previous loss.
The details of the culture are also beautifully written. I was completely lost in the jungle along with them as they got to know the abbey and surrounding villages.
In short: a beautiful and immersive story I'd read again. I'm completely hooked on the O'Brien Tales!
This story was so emotionally charged and powerful,it really makes you feel these character's pain and emotions. The O'Brien family legend is in jeopardy. The people left behind are also on an emotional rollercoaster. Please continue with this family's storyline!I can't wait!!!
I love anything Irish, but the other common themes of family, loyalty and honor that run through this series make them unputdownable! An added bonus is the excellent research that is obvious in all of these novels. I’ve learned of other cultures, sciences, careers and military life from this incredible series!
I agree wholeheartedly that your Beta. Readers can make it break a good story. I personally can attest to the frustration I sometimes when reading a good story and the wordsmithing or grammar so makes me crazy that I lose interest in the storyline. Where and how do I reach out to become a beta reader?? Just asking☺☺
*sigh* So not only can Ms Reynolds transport to the emerald green country side but she can plant you right in the middle of the jungles of Brazil. We meet some new characters that find their way into our hearts right beside the entire O'Brien clan 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
She did it again! Stacey Reynolds made me fall in love with more of the O’Brien clan. I love how she lets us know how the others are doing while taking us on a new adventure. I can’t wait for the next one. 😊
This reader is waiting with bated breath for the next installment of the O'Brien Tales. We were left with a few cliffhangers but Liam and Izzy got their HEA. Stacey delivers yet another winner!
How does she do this?! This author can WRITE! I cry, I laugh, I get nervous, and yet, I always close with a smile. This series is wonderful and I’ve been spreading the word so my friends can enjoy it too.
The family is so strong, loving and fun and caring through all of their trials and tribulations! Every book just adds more characters to love and care about. I can't wait till see what happens next.
I love these books and can't wait to read the next O'Brien tale, Book 5! Each one tells a different story about members of this wonderful Irish family, I'll.bet you will get hooked as I have.
Stacey Reynolds writes beautiful stories. I love the O’Brien Tales series. Whenever I’m in a slump or don’t know what to read I always turn to this series. It really lifts the mood and it’s so well written.
A good read with romance and the wilds of Brazil. An Irish doctor, just out of med school, flees to Ireland after losing something dear. A family friend takes her accumulated leave time after retiring from the Navy as a surgeon to work at St. Clare’s orphanage & hospital.
