M otivated by a deep-rooted conviction that the North American church needs to be equipped for this important task, Micah Fries and Keith Whitfield have gathered a group of experts who are deeply invested in successful outreach to their Muslim neighbors. Unlike many resources that explore the topic of Islam as a dominant religion in the Middle East, Islam and North America focuses on the presence of Islam here in North America. Answering questions about the commonalities between Christians and Muslims, freedom of worship, the Quran, and Sharia law, this book will equip North American Christians to think about Islam theologically and missionally, engage their Muslim neighbors hospitably, and encourage readers to find new opportunities for missional engagement in their own backyards.
This is, in all honesty, the best book I’ve read this year. There is so much fear and confusion regarding immigration in general, and the increase of the Muslim population specifically, in our nation. The authors of this book seek to bring a biblical framework of understanding our Christian responsibility to our Muslim neighbors. Bart Barber’s chapter on religious liberty and Michael Echavarria’s chapter on immigration are some of the best treatments of their respective topics that I’ve read.
The reality is hat the Muslim population is increasing dramatically in our nation. They are our neighbors. And we have the biblical call to share the gospel with our neighbors. This book will be a valuable resource in the years to come.
As I was reading this book, and as a Muslim convert I was so disgusted by the racism and negativity placed on a religion that Christians don't know much about.
Pg XIX Islam does not encourage violence. If a Christian commits a crime, do we call him a terrorist or blame it on Christianity? There are Muslims like Christians who have fallen off Gods path. You cannot blame the religion.
Pg XIX The 9/11 attack was not a Muslim attack but a zionist attack. The plan was to kill Bin Laden 3 yrs prior and this was the perfect setup. The jews were called off work that day.
Pg 4 Muslims only fear Allah. Where is your data that shows Islam is a dangerous religion, because no where in our religion does it teach this.
Pg 8 Christians believe in a trinity, where Muslims believe in one God. Jesus is not God, there is no way he created man or earth. Jesus is a messenger, God sent.
Pg 11 You keep bringing up 9/11 attack and blaming Muslims. I ask again that you fully research before publishing such wrongs
Pg 12 "Respect others who hold different beliefs just as you would expect others to be respected for yours." Practice what you preach.
Pg 12 Al- Qaeda are not Muslims, ISIS are not Muslims > DO NOT ASSOCIATE THEM WITH ISLAM.
PG 16 Islam does not have a terrorism problem > BAD PEOPLE DONT MAKE THE RELIGION BAD.
Pg 16 ISIS are not Muslim nor part of the Islamic state they maybe be Arabic but not all Arabic are Muslims
Pg 21 The increase in Muslims is not primarily due to births. People of all race and religions are converting to Islam. I have attended many Mosques throughout USA and seen for myself.
Pg 21 Judaism is not a religion its a race.
Pg 24 Hate crimes against Muslims in USA is because the govt has brainwashed society. Priest sexually molest children do you blame religion or the priest?
Pg 25 ISIS was formed by George Bush to help fight against terrorist but they turned against him. If you do further research you will find the ISIS leader is actually Jewish.
Pg 26 Before the North America continent was separated, the first Indians were Moroccan Indians who were Muslim. I don't recall them being slaves.
Pg 42 Christians worship Jesus > not god. No where in the Bible does it say Jesus Is God. Its Impossible.
Pg 46 A true Muslim cannot be converted.
Pg 50 ''Your not welcome here" towards Muslims, but in reality non of us are truly American but the Indians. Our ancestors all migrated from different countries. Afterall the USA is a immigrant country.
Pg 50 Why does a Christian think he is any better than a Muslim? Take away race and religion both are human. Both are capable of committing terrorist attack.
Pg 58 Christians make false accusations.. Islam is not a religion 9 Where is your data)
Pg 59 "Christians can only be safe if you take away the religious liberty from Muslims" You are absurd. This is a close minded statement.
Pg 62 Muslims don't believe Jesus is God. No Jesus is not God. God is not human . If God created Jesus how can Jesus be God. Who was God before Jesus was born?
Pg 71 Christians are taught to reject Muhammad as the final prophet Muslims respect and believe in all the prophets but follow the last Muhammad. Christians like Jews reject because he's Arabic.
Pg 71 You need to do more research to see where all the prophets came from, might surprise you that they were Muslim.
Muslims believe in one God, not a trinity and we do not idol worship (crosses and statues) We pray 5 times a day. We are taught to give to those less fortunate, we believe in Jihad as Christians believe in holy war. I quit page 80 because I was angry will all false information.
This book is quite different from what I usually read. It has a certain target audience in mind, which would be Christians, specifically Christians who are wanting to see other people become Christians. So it may rub some readers the wrong way. The first chapters are informative concerning Islam in general, covering the basic beliefs and divisions, though I noticed there was not much discussion about the Sunni-Shia divide, which is still a major division among Muslims. The last few chapters address ways that Christians can "reach" their Muslim neighbors with the gospel message. (Reach meaning tell them about Christianity.) One of the most interesting parts was when the book addressed the similarities and differences between Islam and Christianity. For example, is Allah, God in the Islamic faith, the same God in the Christian faith. I think the book provides a good answer to this question. Overall, a good book, again, depending on your own faith and worldview.
This book engages in a few cliches, but overall, whatever criticisms I have are dwarfed by the overall message of this book, which is exactly what Christians in America (especially conservative ones) need to hear today.
There are evil men and women out there who commit evil in the name of Islam, but we should not let this fact cause us to hate or fear our Muslim neighbors, most of whom share values very similar to our own. Instead of reacting with fear, we should express love and reach out to our Muslim neighbors. Especially those who have left their homes behind to come to North America.
My only caveat is that our love should not be conditioned upon the hope that they might become Christians. We should love them unconditionally without respect to any agenda, whether it be theirs or our own.
This is a compilation of different authors expanding on Ed Stetzer's teachings about sharing Christ with Muslims. It was VERY repetitive, but informative. Featuring questions for thought after each chapter, I think it would be good to use in a small discipleship group focusing on evangelism.
