Book 2 of the Searching for a Highlander series of time travel romances by Bess McBride Cynthia Dunnon, graduate archaeological student, heads off to the remote Western Isles of Scotland to work on a dig of the sixteenth century island stronghold of the Morrison clan. Just as she is packing her bags to leave, her long-time boyfriend ends their relationship, claiming that her love for him lacks passion and romance. Cynthia, the daughter of an absentee irresponsible archaeologist father, wants a steady reliable relationship devoid of drama. No sooner does Cyn set foot onto the foggy tidal sea stack of the Morrison stronghold than she falls headlong into a deep hole, all that remains of the keep that served as a lookout tower from rival feuding clans. A metal object slows her fall, the hilt of a medieval dagger. Cyn finds she has fallen not only in space, but in time, when she awakens in a world of rugged Highland Scotsmen who stand ready at all times to fight for their home, their women and children, their very lives. Steady and reliable they may be, but they are fiercely passionate about everything they hold dear. Cyn finds a sympathetic companion in Ann Borodell, the time traveling wife of the laird. But it is the wild ginger mane and compelling blue eyes of the brooding Highland warrior that capture her reluctant heart. I've been writing romance fiction since 2006 and have published 20 books. I write time travel romances, contemporary romances, romantic suspense, and light paranormal romances (lovelorn ghosty stuff).
A gypsy at heart, I've lived in Aruba, Venezuela, Arizona and California (thanks to my parents, and in Guam, Wyoming, Washington State, Belgium, Washington D.C., Maryland, Montana, Turkey and Alaska (thanks to my time in the U.S. Air Force. Since then, I've lived in Idaho, Nebraska and Alabama in addition to visiting many more countries and states, and I'm determined to Goodreads friend everyone from all those places plus many more!
I love Bess McBride's time travel books. This is the second in the Searching For a Highlander series. I enjoyed the first one but to me this one is even better. Cynthia is our heroine this time who ends up on the Island and travels back to meet Torq, our mostly silent stoic hero. What follows is an easy light romantic story. There are probably moments which will cause you to raise an eyebrow, but these are short books and things have to happen quickly to bring our couple together. The romance in this one is lovely. I liked that we meet Ann from the previous book and get to find out how she got on after we left her. It's great to get an epilogue at the end which is sometimes not done enough in books. Would recommend this to any TT fans.
I love this series and all Bess McBride’s books. It’s an escape. A little vacation from life. Love the characters and the story. Easy to read and hard to put down. Looking forward to the next book in this series! Downloading it now.
I was given this book in return for an honest review. It is no big secret that I am a huge fan of Bess. I have read most of her books and she has never let me down. I love Scotland. I love the Highland Era. I love time travel. So this book is right up my alley. I read the first one and fell in love with this series.
In this story you meet Cynthia, a young woman sent to the Highlands for an archaeological dig so she can finish her degree. She's not there long before an accident has her in the past, in 1591! Shes hurt and found by Torq, a big tough highlander with an over protective personality. Soon, they find themselves quite taken with each other and the thought of going back to her time is the last thing Cynthia wants. Through kidnapping and accidental time travel these two find each other and have a very unlikely romance, but it's a romance that can last through time.
I loved this book! Torq is such a manly man and yet, I found myself picturing him as a big teddy bear. He is a great character. I am glad this book had Ann, whom you meet in the first book of this series, when she herself goes on a time travel journey. She was a great character in that book and she plays a big role in helping Cynthia adapt to her new world. Cynthia tugs at my heart a bit. She seems to have self esteem issues and she just makes me love her no matter what. This story was filled with everything I have grown to love in these types of books. It was full of romance, passion, drama, action, and history. It was written very well, and OH what an ending. I absolutely loved it and can't wait to read the next in the series.
I love Bess McBride books! She creates such endearing characters and fun adventures. This is the second book in the series, so it was great to return to both the modern day characters as well as those back in the 16th century. I feel like we get lots of little hints to keep us guessing about where the story is ultimately going. I love that it’s archeologists going back - I just imagine how awesome it would be for an archeologist to see what they’re excavating in its own time.
Bess McBride has authored one of the best books ever. All the characters are great especially Torq. The heroine is injured and that presents the reader with a very interesting twist. It such a great time travel story. I can hardly wait for the next book . Bravo Bess McBride.
I enjoyed the storyline but I really couldn't relate to the female character, Cynthia. This novel seemed to be more suited for a young adult
I wish it contained more action. Maybe mentioned more about the other characters. I would have liked to have more background on Torque, Dylan and Iskier.
This is another winner. I just love all her time travel books. The are my favorite book to read. Bess is one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend all her books to everyone who loves romance and time travel stories. Diana Romano
Five stars, McBride is an excellent writer of Time Travel Romance. Stories basically are romantic with just a touch of adventure. The character Cynthia falls in love so fast the story ends before it begins.
I love your time travel. And the love you put in them. The people you put in your stories, are so great and touching to my heart, now on to the next one. Thank you again. Ada G.
I truly enjoy all of Bess McBride's books. She always has a great story that sucks me in every time! Once I start reading her books.... I'm hooked! Enjoyed this story, I like this series, and already looking to start the next book!
