Carol Anne Sullivan is a tough New York stock broker. She's suffered enough in order to learn a hard lesson - never let love spoil her relationships. Her boyfriends know that rule from the start. She's domineering and assertive but also faithful and fair while the relationship lasts.
Mark Aikens is Carol's boyfriend. He's been in love with her for a while but his submissive side hasn't allowed him to rebel against her golden rule and to tell her how he feels. Fear of losing her forever might spur him into action.
Cindy O'Rourke has admired Carol from afar. So, she jumps at the opportunity to work for her idol. Little does she know, things will never be the same for her after that job interview.
Carol has been going through a rough patch: world economical crisis, dysfunctional parents, demanding clients, faulty equipment. Without much time for herself, her love life is suffering. So what is the big deal if she fantasizes about a new employee when her boyfriend, Mark, can't give her what she needs? The big deal is - the new receptionist, Cindy, is a woman who threatens to turn her world upside down.
This is the steamy tale of an unconventional love triangle which should be read with an open mind and an open heart. Sometimes, love comes to our lives in unexpected ways but with such overwhelming power that the best course of action might be to surrender to it.
*This is a stand-alone book. Although it gives readers of 'Powerless' a deeper understanding of the story; one doesn't need to read it in order to understand 'Upside Down'.
USA Today best-selling author Liz Gavin, has accomplished much in her short career. Her books have made to #1 and Top Five best-selling ranks in her home country Brazil and others as diverse as Japan, the UK and the US; both in English and Portuguese, collecting 5 and 4-star reviews. Nominated for a Summer Indie Book Award in 2016, and again in 2017, this RWA member constantly seeks new opportunities to improve her craft. This thirst for knowledge propelled Liz to leave the comforts of family and friends in Brazil and move to California to pursue a Master’s degree in late 2015. She lives in sunny SoCal, where she’s researching the writing process, for her thesis, in hopes to figure out why she creates in English instead of her native Portuguese. Liz Gavin writes in contemporary, paranormal, and historical genres. In her sexy stories, one finds smart, independent women, who don’t need rescuing by knights in shining armor, but indulge in steamy action with swoony Alpha males with big hearts. She also writes about women discovering their sexuality and finding happiness in unconventional setups.
This was a really enjoyably hot read! I liked the sex triangle going on love triangle plot but obviously, as a piece of erotica, the measure of the book is its erotic scenes and on that level the book scores top marks. There was a good variety of different sexual scenes, which were well written and each original enough that there wasn't the repetition of same, same you often find in erotic stories. Everyone has different reading tastes and for that matter sexual tastes but I think there will be something in this book for everyone.
I received a copy of this book from Inked Rainbow Reads in return for an honest review. This was an interesting read. There's an insistence by the main character, Carol, for emotionally safe sex. She has been having this sort of non-involved relationship with her assistant for two years. And she's been lying to herself. He is the first to admit to having deeper feelings, and she freaks out. And then there's the fact that the newly hired receptionist is having an unanticipated effect on Carol's equilibrium. The feelings Carol is forced to confront change everything. Throw in some secrets from her dysfunctional family that end up being not only eye-opening, but healing as well, and Carol's life is changed forever. Truthfully, Carol is a bit shallow in the beginning. It is the people who love her that force her to change and grow. The story itself is good, then add in a lot of hot sex and things get taken up a notch. Carol's solution to her dilemma is difficult but worth the trouble. One additional thing: I don't usually comment on grammar and typographical issues in reviews. There are several points in this book that make it clear that the author isn't a native speaker. I think she does a fairly good job, although the book would benefit from a native English-speaking editor. The mistakes are noticeable, but easy to overlook, unless you are one of those few who are unable to ignore them.
I still don't know what to make of this story. It's a steamy menage romance - ffm - with an underdeveloped side tale linking the main character to the Salem witches. Carol is a highly successful businesswoman who enjoys a Domme relationship with Mark, one of her employees. When she hires Cindy, she is surprised to find herself attracted to the younger woman. How she comes to terms with this, and how to handle Mark in the light of her new experiences, forms the mainstay of the book.
I have already read Powerless and I loved it, and considering it was the book before Upside Down I already had a feeling that I was going to enjoy what I would read.
Carol Anne Sullivan has always been in control and even though her childhood was difficult considering her parents went off to another country leaving her to go to boarding school she has managed to do well with her life. Now she currently owns her own company and has such a way when it comes to managing and buying stocks.
She has pretty everything that she could ask for, but in a way somethings missing, in hopes to stop the buzzing that's happening downstairs in her private parts she decides to have some much needed afternoon steamy session with her PA Mark. However before she can even head out for her afternoon session she has a meeting which has to do with the position of being her secretary part time. All through the meeting she can't help but wonder if she is seeing things as every now and then it may seem as if the girl is flirting with her. The girls name is Cindy and after having that meeting Carol seems even more agiatated, soon after getting to the hotel for her session with Mark half way through she doesn't seem to be scratching that itch and is almost ready to give up until she spots a certain blonde haired girl otherwise known as Cindy watching whats going on between her and Mark. The most shocking thing for her is seeing that Cindy is happily playing with herself as she watches them both.
Ever since that day Carol's life has been turned upside down, she isn't able to concentrate on her work, she feels like she's hurting Mark, but she isn't exactly sure what to do about anything as she currently has Cindy doing everything she can to get her attention. However what will happen when Cindy makes a move on her and when Mark declares his love for her. Will she be able to come up with the right solution or is she going to be having a tough time with making the right choice.
With all this hot and steamy drama going on, you really aren't going to want to miss this. If you have already read Powerless then you will know what I'm talking about. For those of you that haven't then go ahead and read Powerless first. This can be read as a standalone novel but if you'd like to have a peak as to what could be in store then I would suggest to read powerless first but at the end of the day it's up to you. I honestly loved the way this was written as the dynamics between all the characters were well established. I always felt that I knew where the story would go but each time it would take a complete and different turn and it keep me interested until the very end.
As you can tell from the reviews I write, I’ve written reviews for practically every genre, so for a change of pace from reviewing books I’ve won through the giveaways I continuously enter, I’ve decided to go to my extensive list of books I’d like to read and one choose one which in the realm of being erotic.
I wished I’d known about Powerless before, and then I’d have to read it again here as the author tells us through Carol Anne Sullivan’s POV.
As I read this book Ms. Gavin had totally pulled me into her character and at times I began to fantasize being in her shoes as a bitchy, rich, financially astute woman who’s also a dominatrix on the size; a type of person I’m definitely not.
What woman would not love to have a guy, especially one who’s a hulk and at her beg and call, even if it’s without having to tantalize him into submission?
Carol drops a member of her “harem” the moment he begins asking for sex without giving anything in return; that is until Mark Aiken enters her life as a submissive employee. But there’s a price she has to pay for all this as family issues begin to distract her; and as an extremely attractive secretary, Cindy O’Rourke, starts working for her, who’s looking for any opportunity to please her new boss, even it means being a submissive competition for Mark.
I’m not going to go into any spoilers for this book, which I seldom if ever do; but rest assured, you’re in for some steamy times which all that comes in this genre, with scenes of bondage and spanking, etc. And I’m definitely not going to tell you how this story ends as it will ruin the journey you’ll be taking and experiencing with Carol.
For having me wipe my “steamed-up glasses” several times I’m giving Ms. Gavin 5 STARS.
*ARC given to me by Author Liz Gavin in exchange for my honest review*
I'm giving Upside Down 5 stars!!
Upside Down is the second book after Powerless. The author included Powerless in the beginning of the book. I almost did not want to read that part again but realized that more was included than in the original. In this book we get a little more insight into how Carol is feeling about Cindy and Mark. Mark is completely in love with Carol and even though she knows how she feels about him she can't get past the fact that she has feelings for Cindy as well.
Mark decided to wait for Carol no matter how long it takes. After another hot encounter with Cindy it's clear that she loves Mark but also has very strong feelings for Cindy. When Carol goes away to figure out her feelings she doesn't expect to run into her parents. When she gets home she realizes that she loves both Cindy and Mark and tells them that it's either they both want her or she's done.
This book was HOT!! Once I started reading I didn't stop until I was finished. I liked getting to know more about Carol and her relationship with her parents it gives us a chance to see how she grew up. The only thing I really wish is that we were able to know more about Cindy and Mark. I will definitely recommend this book to my friends.
I love this book. I was hooked from the beginning.
Carol is the type of woman I want to be. She is strong, independent, and takes no crap from anyone. She is a character that I can easily relate to and definitely want to read more about her.
Mark is a strong, independent man who isn't afraid to show his feelings. Who can resist that plus he is extremely GORGEOUS!
Cindy is another strong female that is easy to relate to. She knows what she wants and goes for it.
The story line is addicting. I had a hard time putting the boom down. I never expected the arrangement they worked out to work so well. I love that this book shows that you can love more then one person. I am in love with Liz's work and will be reading more of her.
Wow! Upside Down started out the gate with intense heat. Couldn't put the book down. Carol is a spitfire that thrives to succeed and "control" all things, work, life and her man. Fighting to come to terms with her past and present, she takes you with her on a fast-paced journey.
Wow... That's all I have in my mind when I finished this book.
Carol is a busy woman running her own business with her submissive man candy that she works with. She thinks everything is just as she wants. Has a way to work off her stress, a carefree sexual partner that expects nothing more from her but the sex.
Until he reveals that he is in love with her. She has issues with commitment and it's the last thing she wants to hear from Mark.
At the same time she is having unusual feelings and interactions with the new receptionist, Cindy. She can't figure out if she is being hit on or if her head is playing games with her. Given time, and some of her attention, Carol figures out that Cindy is indeed attempting to slowly seduce her. What to do about it though? After an intense (and hot) scene in the en suite bathroom off her office, Carol is more confused than ever.
There is a few twists and turns, and although I can't say they were unforeseen as I think most people would do semi-similar things if put into the same situation, this book is a PAGE TURNER. I couldn't put it down. I absolutely loved it.
Careful though.. You might need a change of panties and sheets and even a new coat of pain because this is a scorcher. There is M/F, F/F and M/F/F scenes. Add in a touch of BDSM too.
The characters were real, flawed and easy to relate to. I absolutely adored Carol and her struggles with trying to decide what she was going to do. Would she pick Mark or would she pick Carol or is it possible for the three of them to make a go of an unusual situation?
The only reason this isn't a five star book to me was there were a few editing errors along the way and I didn't necessarily care for Carol's parents excuses for their absence. I didn't believe that it would cause them to react the way they did. Neither was such a big thing that I couldn't get past them and love the book.
I can't wait to pick up more work from this author as I have no doubt it will be equally as good!
I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.
Carol Anne Sullivan, Mark Aiken, and Cindy O'Rourke (last name's might be spelled wrong)
This is the elaborated and expanded version of the story Powerless. There is an overlap or rather a retelling with added details as the first part of the story is "Powerless". I almost skipped over it, but I noticed it wasn't the exact same. A few things were added.
Carol is a busy hardworking stockbroker who doesn't do relationships and has never been in love. She keeps her "boy toys" or flings around until they start wanted more than "no-strings" sex. That is until Mark confesses his love for her. As if that's not enough, issues with her family arrises along with extreame confusion about a certain new "blonde bombshell" receptionist, Cindy.
She is torn between her feeling for Mark and this unexpected and new emerging feelings for Cindy. She must decide on if she can love, who she wants to be with Mark or Cindy. She can't possible keep them both..can she?
My thoughts: I liked the story. It wasn't all about sex, even thougth the sex scenes were very good. We also got to travel the drama road of Carol's emotions and walk in her shoes as shes disovers how to be true to herself. We got a bit of Domme action and spanking and bondage but it wasn't over the top. Sorta like a little chocolte dribbled over vanilla ice cream. A nice touch but didn't overflavor the taste.
Actual rating is between 3 and 4. Wasn't the best story I've read but far far from the worst. It was a nice inbetween.
I'm not a great fan of the erotica genre, so when author Liz Gavin asked me to read and review this book my initial reaction was to decline. Apart from one or two free books, along with the disappointing Fifty Shades trilogy, I've not read many books of this type and wondered whether my indifference to the genre would have a negative effect on my review of Upside Down.
Despite my initial scepticism, I found likeable characters and an interesting plot inside the pages. Protagonist Carol is a smart, successful, sexy businesswoman who has a sexual agreement with her assistant, Mark, and appears to know exactly what she wants...or does she?
Enter attractive new recruit Cindy, who is ruthless in getting her own way. As the tale unfolds, we discover how these two powerful women strive to take charge... until emotions get in the way.
I enjoyed the story, the strong female characters (I can't abide simpering females!) and the rather surprising ending. Yes, there's a lot of graphic sex scenes, but they work within the storyline. At no point did I roll my eyes and skim yet another sexual encounter, as I've done with every other book I've attempted to read in this genre. I'm really impressed with Liz Gavin's writing and look forward to reading more of her work. 4.5/5
What a fascinating story showing a calm, collected, successful woman who thinks she has her life all figured out slowly realize it's not as it all seems. Through the course of this story, our heroine goes on a journey of self discovery which includes many aspects of her life be it professional, family, relationship, and sexual. At the end of this adventure, Carol winds up in a completely different, but highly improved place in her life. Liz does an excellent job of delving into Carol's psyche, allowing her readers to appreciate every turn in her journey.
Pretty decent read. Could have used some more details about the lives of Mark and Cindy, but really enjoyed the bits the author let's us in on. Poly is really not my thing, but the author did a beautiful job of telling a great story.
This is an interesting book. While I don't live the lifestyle, I was still interested. There's a lot of different storylines going on, but I stayed on track. It was definitely sexy and different for my tastes.
This book has a prequel that got me interested in this novel. But sadly the novel falls a tad short in hitting my 'favorite book of all times' list due to a mix of strange family drama and a bit of paranormal juju. If this book was just about the main character figuring out her love life involving two people vying for her heart, this book would have been a hit and very hot. However with the additional drama it distracted from the main story, the fact the parent’s dead lover was talking in a BSDM club was just too weird *if I don’t make sense, well that moment barley made sense to me either. Honestly, I’ll probably stick to the prequel for a re-read, it was hot and straight to the point.
The story starts out about two seemingly in love people. At least you'd think that. A challenge is presented that was not exected and the definition of what love is fades. A heart torn is not a happy heart and sharing is not alwqys appreciated. Decisions need to be made that coul alienate people forever. Read and find out how heart wrenching and searching one has to through to identify what love really is.
There were many steamy scenes, but the story was about overcoming past demons and finding happiness even if you can't choose between the two who make you happy. Problem solved, pick both.
I love this story more so that it continued and was more insights to Carol's background. I didn't too much care for the beginning version of this story in "Powerless" But this extended version was insightful, wonderful, and very intimate. So many issues were put to rest past and present.

I was looking forward to an ffm but this felt like a lot of internal monologuing and little communication and the MFC just came across as super selfish. To be clear, I love poly-love but this felt manipulative and so wasn't for me.
an interesting take on life at the top. a great effort from a non native english speaker, where the prose jars with strange cadence, and unexpected tangents. a compelling story of bdsm and power dynamics that could be better with an editor on board.
What's better than a hot young man hell-bent on pleasing you? A hot young woman who wants in on the action, too.
Carol Sullivan has life by the balls. A successful investment adviser/stockbroker, she has power, wealth and a hot young PA, Mark, to service her carnal needs. Her world is turned upside down when she meets the new receptionist at the office, Cindy O'Rourke. Carol can't understand what's happening to her and why she's having sexual thoughts about another woman. Add that to the volatile relationship with her parents and Mark asking for more than she's capable of giving, Carol's life is spinning out of control. She'll need to reconcile her feelings for both Mark and Cindy before she goes out of her mind.
GAAH! Nothing sours a book for me more than serious editing errors, and UPSIDE DOWN was absolutely riddled with them. It took away from my enjoyment of the storyline and any connection that I might have with the characters. For instance:
"You never seize to surprise me, pet."
And
"He had an athletic, hot body but he was not conceit at all."
Or
"I found out, then, I was in the mood to loose my soul to the Devil if it meant I got to kiss her throughout Eternal Damnation."
I started off liking Carol, but as I got into her story, I really, really didn't. She didn't come off as likable or loving or as a caring Domme to Mark. He was pretty sappy and a total yes man, and she was just cruel to him yet he came back to her again and again. Cindy's character confused me, I went back and forth as to whether or not I thought she was going to pull a bunny out of a boiling pot or whether she genuinely liked Carol. Either way, the two women had just as much chemistry going on as Carol and Mark did, and that's to say it was decent.
Bottom Line: This story could have been much better for me if the mistakes weren't plentiful and horrendous, but as it stands right now, I can't recommend UPSIDE DOWN. - See more at: http://erotic.theromancereviews.com/v...
Talk of hot and sizzling! This book was all that. I am not a fan of erotic books, and I failed to read, as I discovered later on the cover of the book, that it was an erotic novel before I delved into the book, and even then, I still am glad I went on and finished the book, because this is going to be the first- maybe not- this is because I also read Luck of the Irish, by the same author, which was hot, but not as much as in this book, I should have known to stay away from erotic books.
Upside Down read like a story from hell. Human beings behaving worse than animals…with a bit of the after life thrown in to assuage the soul. Like it is okay to live and act like the debased. Even animals show better respect for their sex lives. This story was a total debauchery to all that is sacred in sex. I was gagging reading it, and yet I wanted to read it to the end, so as to fully know what erotica is. If it was meant to entertain, believe me, it was simply appalling! I could not believe what I was reading. I was not aroused. I was just disgusted.
Towards the end, the author was so carried away, she started making mistakes, jumping words, and using wrong words in places. I suppose she was so deep into the act of describing the acts, she was carried away. For those who like this kind of stories, good luck! As for me, now I know what erotica is, and this is my ever last attempt in indulging in such a read. Tufia Kwa! - God forbid!

Carol Ann had a good thing going. She was wildly successful as a NY stockbroker, making money even when no one else does. Her assistant at work, Mark, doubled as her submissive. But then entered Cindy, a driven young woman who interviewed for a menial position at Carol's firm.
Cindy's introduction to the office was marked by Carol's disturbing dreams, inability to focus and a sudden distraction whenever she was with someone else. Even her attempts to escape to an exclusive sex club in New Orleans were unsatisfying.
Torn between Mark and Cindy, Carol eventually confesses her feelings for them both and chooses her birthday as the deadline for making her choice between the two. Her decision, as well as certain revelations about her family, were unexpected.
This was a good story, with plenty of erotic scenes. I really enjoyed it.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a interesting and entertaining book to read and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The story covers Carol Anne Sullivan (aka Caroline Anne) a domineering hardworking stockbroker who does not do relationships. What you will find in this story is drama, some twists, family issues, a dominatrix, a new attractive secretary ( Cindy O’Rourke), looking for a opportunity to please her new boss, a submissive competition for Mark Aiken, sex triangle, M/F, F/F, M/F/F. mild BDSM, bondage, spanking, emotional feelings and graphic erotic scenes. The plot is well thought out and written with a intriguing and entertaining story-line. The characters are well developed with emotion feelings of doubt, lust, needs and desires, suited to the situations they find themselves in. I would recommend this book to people who are broad-minded and like to read this kind of book.
I wanted to really like this book. I read it with an open mind and the storyline was ok but the editing is horrible. If there even was an editor. There are misspellings and grammatical errors all through the book. The main character is named Carol Anne Sullivan. In places she is called Caroline Anne. I think maybe this book was written in another language and translated into English. It was then never looked at by an editor. The errors are very distracting and the sheer number of errors is unforgivable. This book should be pulled from the market and corrected.
