Drunken brawls. One-night stands. No-show interviews. Toilet-papering my hoity-toity neighbor’s house. Insulting my fans. Trashing hotel rooms. What’s it take to become public enemy number one? I just told you. I’ve done all that and more. My poor conduct got me on the Celebs Behaving Badly list and ultimately ruined my career. From the world’s number-one popstar to world’s most hated. That’s me. Ten Stark. Go underground, they said. Stay out of the spotlight. Most importantly, stay out of trouble. Everyone loves a good comeback story. For once, I listened. I met someone who didn’t know my name, my face, or the bad behavior that defined me. She taught me I wasn’t who everyone thought I was—everyone including me. Then someone whispered my name and things got messy, as they always do. Now I want her back. I’m not a caterpillar, but a butterfly. My wings are in full color, not just black and white. But first, I have to shed my cocoon and fly.

Ten is a huge pop star who was unable to face his fame and success, and turned to alcohol, and so he... pissed all over his career - literally - and from the most loved pop star in the world, he became public enemy. (Justin Bieber Syndrome? 😂) Because of his actions, he was forced to take a break and disappear until everything calmed down. 💙
Ten meets Violet who has no idea who he is - and it's a refreshing and welcoming change. When they meet Ten introduces himself as Stark (his last name) and that is how their friendship begins. 🦋
I liked that the connection between the characters felt real. Unlike other Rockstar books, there are no exaggerated clichéd descriptions of the characters - both Ten and Violet have flaws. They were not the most beautiful or perfect people. They were regular... human. 💙 I also liked the idea behind the name of the book and how Ten became a new and better person, like the butterfly incarnation - thanks to Violet. (Although it wasn't really reliable if you ask me) 😂🤦♀️
It's a sweet, romantic and refreshing story but it also felt a little too childish to me, especially because of the Insta-Love ... so if you're looking for a hot and mature book - this is not exactly the book for you. 🤷♀️
‘BUTTERFLY:’ Is a New Adult standalone novel by Cambria Hebert, Spoken in ‘Dual Perspectives’ In this we meet Ten and Violet
First there was a caterpillar
The ‘Prologue’ had me hooked straight away!! Ten Stark lets rip and does the unthinkable during another one of his drunken escapades but takes this last one that one step further whilst performing in front of a sold out stadium. Which earns him a stint in rehab and then abolished to the town he grew up in with words to stay out of trouble and lay low ringing in his ears.
Clawing his way back into his fans good graces he gives speeches at local community colleges on what not to do the things he's done.
Running away from some crazy assed fans he takes cover in an art gallery, exactly the last place you'd ever expect to see him. Here he meets a girl that doesn't know who he is (how is that even possible, often went through his mind) she even had him pegged as a thief. An aspiring artist she was hiding out from all the campus fans that were all going crazy over some rock star The guy with a number for a name she was happy in her hide out sitting drawing a cartoon of the guy. She disliked everything that guy stood for.
Stark: The guy who wasn't hated by everyone, who was a broke college student and drove a piece of shit jeep. I had to win her over without any star power. Without any money. Without being the guy she clearly hated.
This girl intrigued him like no other, she wasn't struck senseless, she had no clue who he was, she didn't expect things from him, for all she knew is he drove a broken assed duct taped up jeep, nothing screamed famous, made of money other than the shoes he wore on his feet that she flat out stated he'd stolen.
Because he loved the anonymity she offers him he tells her his name is Stark.
Then there was a butterfly
She was the complete opposite to the girls he'd dated in the past. Slowly we see another side of Ten aka Stark take shape, his transformation simmered in the background and slowly we saw him fall in love with the girl who didn't know who he was.
Violet struggles on a daily basis, on the outside she looks like an everyday healthy girl but on the inside her body is at war, through her silent resilient strength this makes Stark become a better human being.
If you think you've read them all when it comes to our bad boy rockers then think again, this had such a unique spin on it, like me you'll love the heroine, god her imagination was classic, many a time I'd find myself giggling but then you'll also connect with her on an emotional level too. The formatting of this was just stunning, each chapter was set up so beautifully..I've only recently discovered this author so I'm a relatively new stalker, but she's definitely one that I hunt down for a one click on release days..
I loved it so much ❤ It was fast paced, sweet, fun and it has the perfect amount of drama. I loved the characters Ten and Violet are so cute together, they have a great chemistry.I had a smile on my face while I was reading it, and I didn't want to finish it.Butterfly is one of my favorite books for 2017. If you are looking for a sweet and sexy read you must read Butterfly. Now after so many days that I read it and I'm still thinking about Violet and Ten!
I loved this story from beginning to end. This author writes characters with imperfections that make them all the more lovable. It was amazing to see Stark/Ten’s growth throughout this story. He was so good to Violet and his respect and admiration for her came off the pages. I’m really HOPING that Nate gets a book. Every scene he was in had me lol’ing. I want him to get his hea.
3.75 stars. Sweet story, Cambria Hebert style. Entertaining and funny reading but I was abruptly reminded in several scenes that this is a work of fiction due to a certain lack of realism with both aspects of the storyline and also the actions of some of its characters. I really loved Violet, she was a sassy and strong heroine. Her approach to life and living with a debilitating illness was inspiring. She has RA. Ten aka "Stark" was a little harder for me to relate to even though I liked how caring he was with Violet. I simply adored her secondary characters especially Nate. Overall a goodread.
3 indifferent shrug stars. Nothing stood out to me. Neither the hero, heroin, plot, or drama was interesting. It was sweet, I guess, but that would be the only was to describe it. Also, the heros change of character wasn’t believable at all. One second he’s a shit sand which and the rest of the book he’s a loving boyfriend. There was no character development to lead me to believe he actually changed.
Have you ever liked a book because of its heroine more than its hero?
'Butterfly' is one such read for me, with a female protagonist who couldn't be more real in my eyes - suffering the afflictions us mere mortals do while going through life the best she can, with the (literal) scars to show for it. 'Butterfly' was more Violet Meier for me more than the spoiled, self-absorbed and disgraced pop star who really should have known better but didn't. And I loved her for it - for being far from the indestructible characters that we tend to associate with larger-than-life protagonists because she stays comfortable in her own skin.
Ten Stark made me a little too sceptical of the change he finally wanted to effect in his life and didn't get too much of my sympathy - the shenanigans of celebrities these days don't interest me at all - though Cambria Hebert does a good job in humbling the awful man who'd hit rock-bottom.
Despite my not being a big fan of deception that's continued throughout most of the story because a protagonist couldn't be bothered or is too scared to own his/her mistakes, 'Butterfly' is surprisingly still a low-angst, easy read, with the somewhat muted inevitable blow-up followed by the requisite grovelling and HEA.
She writes one of the best characters in the romance genre.
Ten Stark - First of all, AMAZING PROLOGUE....LOVED IT..!! Here we have, a super popular singer, who has everything - fame, money and girls, yet he is an angry 22 year old at heart and is frustrated with everything. He has an attitude problem and is not a very grateful person. This characteristic of his is not the main focus of the story, and I really appreciate this. We see Ten experience life where a Girl doesn't know him, and treats him like a nobody, and Ten loves it. He gets to learn to be grateful of all that he has, and we see him get his Wings in the Book.
Ten was adorable, sweet, gentle and Oh-So-Sexy..
Violet - First off, let me clear it up for you. Some might argue how can Violet not know a world famous rockstar, when her gay brother is obssessed with Ten. I, personally, had no idea who One Direction was up until 6 months ago when my friend made me sit and watch a ton of videos of OneD (I am totally a Larry Shipper Now ;-) ) But the point being, I am completely acceptable of the fact that Violet had no idea who Ten was. I wouldn't have recognized Harry Styles even if he had stood in front of my face.
Now, Violet - This Girl was freaking amazing. Almost every Girl would be able to relate to her..She was Sassy, artsy, was conscious about her figure and weight (not in a bad way, like our everyday accepting - this-is-what-it-is-and-i-love-myself kinda way), watched Netflix and Chilled, and swooned when Ten kissed her on the forehead. She has her own issues and battles to fight, and she fights them everyday, and comes out stronger.
It is her strength that Makes Ten want to be a Better Person.
"You fight a silent battle every day, and somehow you don't let it destroy you. You find a way to accept yourself for who you are...and who you aren't"
"The quiet strength I found in me was a surprise but a welcome one."
"I think I had to be weak before I could be strong"
" "This is me right now. I want you to know that. Me." The pad of his thumb stroked over my cheekbone. "I've never been so present with anyone as I am with you right now." "
An Amazing New-Adult College Romance
- Dual POV - Low Angst - A Sassy Heroine - Hot and Sweet Hero - A Perfect Read
Release Date: November 3, 2017 Genre: New Adult. College Romance.
I am so glad Cambria Hebert went back to writing new adult, college romances. Her #Hashtag series (which falls within this genre) made me fall hopelessly in love with her stories and since reading it, I have become devoted to all of her work. So when she announced her next series (this one) I was elated! Butterfly is the first book in a series of standalones. It features a college student and a famous (ex) pop star and their fight for love.
One of the things that really struck me while reading is the books lack of drama. Whenever one thinks of a famous artist and "regular" person falling in love, they immediately think of all the crap that comes with the fame- the fandom, the inability to do normal everyday things like walk into a coffee shop without being noticed, and the constant need for bodyguards. This is not the case with Butterfly though. In fact, none of this stuff really pops up at all, which for me, made the book all the more unique. Now, don't take this as the author just leaving all of this out because it's truly not like that. You see, our hero Ten, who happens to be the pop star, is in hiding at Baylock college after some stunts he pulled at one of his concerts. He mostly wears a hat and stays out of the public eye (which is why he isn't noticed) and the girl who decides to befriend has no idea who he is. Some may wonder why or how Violet doesn't recognize him, but well just say that she is introverted and less inclined to listen to his type of music- being unable to recognize him wouldn't be so hard because of all this.
With that, Cambria does a wonderful job at bringing her characters to life within this novel and I truly feel like I connected with them on a deep level. At first, I wasn't thrilled with the idea of lying (you know, Violet didn't realize who Ten really was and he never told her), but I can understand why deep down he couldn't do it. Other than that, I thought the book was great. It's nice to see Cambria go back to her roots with NA romance, and I am so excited to see which characters she writes about next.
Not my cuppa. All I could think about was Justin Bieber and I don’t like to think about him at all.
I will say this, I added an extra star is for the author’s inclusion of RA, rheumatoid arthritis. It is a widely misunderstood disease and her ability to weave it into the story without it becoming too overwhelming or reading like a medical journal was well done.
If you don't know, Cambria Hebert is one of the Queens of College Romances for me. I love her #Hashtag series so hard!! I miss my babies tbh. So when I saw she was a writing another college romance, I was literally over the moon, even more so when she blessed me with an ARC, ahhh <3 Thank you soooo much Cambria!
I could not have been more excited to jumped right in, so I did. The Prologue got me feeling some type of way about the hero, a not so good one. Let's face it though, I'm a big fan-girl, I have adored my idol for years on end and I guess I totally read that in the point of view of a die hard fan so you could say I was a bit biased. So yeah, first impressions of hero, below zero I guess. BUT that view didn't last long, as soon as the present story started, my feelings started to change because right from the start you start seeing who Ten really is and the hardships he went through because of his fame. Did he go about things the right way? Well of course not, that's why he became Public Enemy #1. But you can see that it's not easy to not have any privacy, to be treated as an object and not as a person and Ten just wanted out. He did the unthinkable though and now he had to work for a comeback if he had any hopes of getting his career back on track.
He's kind of on a promotional tour, giving speeches about what NOT TO DO as a celebrity, trying to better his image. The last speech on said tour is at Blaylock University's Music Department, where his uncle is head of department and where his cousin,Nate, studies.
Side note: Can I just say that I freaking loved Nate?! I hope he gets a book in the future! It would be so much fun though.
Another attendee of Blaylock University is Violet, Violet who's gay brother is die hard fan of Ten and talks about him non-stop, but Vi pays no attention, she could care less about Ten, she doesn't even know what he looks like. All she cares about is her art and making it through the day. Can you see where did is going? I'm sure you can conjure up some good theories.
After Ten's speech he finds himself literally running away from some fans and he finds shelter at an Art Gallery, that's where he meets Violet. They instantly share something, I don't know if I'd call it a connection but it's definitely a certain spark.
I really enjoyed these two, their initial banter, their cute and sweet interactions, and then their sexy times. I laughed, swooned and faned myself all over this book. It was so good!
I'm not sure my feelings for a character have changed so drastically before. But how can someone hate this cute muffin? How?! He's so gentle and lovable! Like, I cannot get over how sweet and overall perfect he was with Violet. Best Book Boyfriend material right there!!
This is also a book about character development, and god was it beautiful to read the changes in Ten's attitude, yes attitude, because he was always Stark, he just had his true beautiful self suppressed by the mess that was his life/career. He was still a caterpillar waiting to turn into a butterfly, and boy did he turn into a beautiful one.
The only way a caterpillar can become a butterfly is to let his world end so his new one can be reborn. Strangely, I identified with the caterpillar, ugly and lost. But I was ready. Ready to perhaps become a butterfly. Now I just needed to get the girl. To spread my wings and fly.
Suffice to say, I loved this book.
➳ARC kindly provided by author, in exchange for an honest review.
I'm always a sucker for a rockstar book. No joke. Rockstars and enemies to lovers are my kryptonite it seems these days. So when I see a book about a rockstar who f'ed up his career and tries to make a comeback, obviously I want to read it.
This was an extremely well written, intriguing new adult book. It focuses on Ten, said fallen rockstar, and Violet, a college art student. Classic opening, the h doesn't recognize the famous singer so he creates a new persona, in this case Stark, and exposes to her who he really is on the inside.
To be honest, yeah, kind of a cliche plot that's been done before but I don't even care, I'll still read it every single time. I loved the character of Stark, though he got a tad crazy/jealous/idiot at times and I'm surprised that Violet put up with it like she did. If a guy comes to my room very shortly after I met him and goes off the handles because he thinks I have another guy in my room... yeah, no. I don't need that drama in my life.
Moving on. Stark and Vi were cute together. I love how he treated her and the care he put in to learning about her and her struggles. Nate was an added bonus all along.
Favourite scene was probably the rave; I just love the detail and atmosphere that was created.
Overall, it was a nice and quick read. It was enjoyable while reading but I did find it predictable. Nothing stood out to me too strongly and I feel like it won't be too memorable in the future for me. Hence the 4 stars
DNF at 53% . I really wanted to love this but personally I couldn't get past the hero being a pop star. If you don't mind that and looking for a new adult read this might work for you.
OMG! This book! I'm a huge Cambria Hebert fan and always excited to see what gives us next but this is my new FAVORITE of hers. The whole story was just so heartwarming and adorable. As always we see a topic that people need to pay attention to ( I won't say what it is because SPOILERS) But trust me you don't want to miss this book. OMG! This book! I️ loved the premise, but the characters did not nothing for me. There is something about the author’s writing style that does not work for me. My opinion. You may love it be it. I️ know a lot of readers love this author. I️ am not one of them.
Cambria Hebert has done it again! Butterfly is sweet, sexy, angsty, and everything you could possibly want in a New Adult romance.
When we first met Ten/Stark I knew he was going to be an interesting character. When he basically tanked his career, it was hilarious, yet you knew it was going to be a long road to recovery for him. Flash forward and he’s now working on a recovery tour, and is in New York with his uncle and cousin, trying to atone for his sins and lay low. When he meets Violet who basically has no idea who he is and hates Ten, he’s intrigued and wants to get to know her more since he feels no pressure from her.
Watching Ten become Stark and who he was (who he really was) with Violet was amazing. He seemed to relax and be himself and find his love for what he did, and what he wanted again. His connection with Violet was strong and he became so protective of her, especially when he learned about her RA and her struggles. I loved how strong Violet was too. She struggled with her disease and her insecurity within herself, but she got up everyday, and did what she needed to do to survive, and never asked for help. When Stark came into her life, she was shocked that someone like him would want something to do with her, but he kept pushing her way into her life, and she let her walls down and she found comfort in him that she never really had before, except with her brother Vance.
These two truly are stronger together than they are apart, but with Stark keeping something huge from her, you know it’s going to blow up at some point. I hated how it all came to light, and what happened to them for a while, but I’m glad that Nate was still around for Violet, and how Stark still found himself and continued on his path. He may have gone down a horrible road before Violet being in his life, but with her help, and reconnecting with his family he truly was brought back to his roots and found his inner peace and found his love again. I loved watching Stark take back control of his career, and fight for his girl in the end.
This was a beautiful love story of redemption, acceptance, and finding your soul mate. I truly adored Stark/Ten and Violet’s story and as much as I enjoyed it, I really didn’t want it to end, I felt as if they had so much more for us, but the epilogue was amazing. I really enjoyed the secondary characters of Nate and Vance who brought humor into this book, and helped these two see things when they were too stubborn to realize them. If you’re looking for a great New Adult romance with a twist, I highly suggest picking up Butterfly by Cambria Hebert today, I couldn’t put this book down, I just wish it was a bit longer!
So i did liked this book. I liked the fact she was normal, and I mean how she looks like. I’m kinda sick of girls looking like top models in books, but this was just ,,normal”. I hated Becca. Loved Nate.
Metamorphosis ; a change! Witnessing Stark evolve into a someone who in essence becomes a butterfly was fantastic!! Violet and Ten have an undeniable attraction to each other as well!! Loved reading Butterfly!
2.5 stars This book was cute, but it just didn’t hit the mark for me. I didn’t feel like there was any character development and I did not like the insta-love.
I like the development of this author. Her books have more and more depth and she reminds me of Colleen Hoover but she still has her own style. I loved this story and the main characters.
