ABOUT R.T. It’s not uncommon to find dark chocolate squares in R.T.’s candy dish, her rescued Saint Bernard at her feet and a few caterpillars spinning their cocoons in the terrariums on her counters.
R.T. was born and raised in the Midwest, the youngest of six children. She married at a young age and decided early on she wanted a family herself. With three small boys in tow, she and her husband flipped two houses with R.T. in charge of the landscape design and install. Now, she is rooted in the final home they designed inside and out.
Now that her boys are nearly grown, R.T. spends much of her time on the road traveling from one sporting event to another serving as mom and cheerleader. When at home, she enjoys Pilates, working with her Golden Retriever and digging in the glorious dirt of her landscaping plots.
During one of many busy and restless nights, R.T.’s first novel began to pluck its way onto her laptop. It was a drug, an instant addiction that only grew with time. Moments borrowed and stolen at her laptop are, now, between all of the travel and work and many of those busy, restless nights. After several edits, revisions and versions later R.T.’s first novel, Black Creek Burning, was published by Crimson Romance on September 24th.
R.T. has been honored to be in the top 5 of the Goodreads New Authors to Read list, a guest on USA Today's Happy Ever After blog and my trailer is nearing 1,000 hits. The book has earned a 4.8 star rating on Amazon.
I loved the characters of Duncan and Nickie – the way Duncan’s PTSD and memories sneak into his experiences, the fact that Nickie the tough-girl cop plays the cello, the way they communicate without words (and with sex). I found I wanted to know the backstory (the Vegas bust) that brought these two together, but we never get those details (the collection starts with them already a couple). The writing style was sparse and that fit with the fast pace/mystery. There were some great descriptive phrases and I loved the secondary characters.
However, there was one thing that really got in the way of me rushing through the entire set and wanting to devour anything else with these characters in it, and that was the poor editing. Small ones (like scenes where I couldn’t tell who was saying what) and bigger, developmental ones, like the author making a point of saying Duncan was weighed down with important files but never getting around to showing us what they learned from the files (or if it was a bust). There were many instances where a chapter ended and the new chapter picked up in a completely different place (almost as if the scenes were out of order), even one where Nickie was crying at the end of the chapter and grinning at the beginning of the next. These were jarring, often brought me to a full stop and re-read, which was especially annoying given that the story moved along quickly (and I wanted to, too). Ms Wolfe has such a gift for creating the characters, why not spend a little time polishing/editing? 3.5 STARS.
This series was a little hard to follow. There were seemingly major events mentioned in the books that were never actually part of the story. They were just referred to, time and time again, without actually have been written about for us to have the entire story. It is incredibly distracting. I’m specifically referring to how Nickie’s former captain and the police chief were part of this trafficking ring. It is referred to many times throughout all the books without actually giving us the entire story. The same is done with Duncan’s PTSD. We are given glimpses is it and little snatches of this part of his character, but we are never given the entire background behind this plot point that keeps recurring. These are just a couple of issues that were incredibly distracting from an otherwise good plot. Sharing the insidious thing that is human trafficking and getting more awareness out there is a very good thing. Unfortunately, the character building and plot mapping really missed the mark and became a huge distraction from the main point.

WOW!! This series is absolutely awesome! The story line is excellent and I was hooked from the very first page. It wasn't always easy to like Nickie -- she has a chip on her shoulder. It is understandable why she is like that -- she was abducted by a child sex trafficking ring when she was 14. Duncan is oh-so-swoon-worthy and you'll fall in love with him right from the get-go.
This series is a spinoff of the Black Creek series. You don't have to read it before reading this series, but I would suggest that you do (although a lot of background story/ information is given in these books).
DNF. I feel like this book has really over estimated its cleverness and mystique.
So Duncan has an eidetic memory. That's cool but I'm not sure why it's treated as some amazing secret. And Nickie is a mess. She's constantly on the verge of some sort of mental breakdown and I'm not sure how she's a functioning cop. Yet we're meant to see her as a badass because she does what she wants and wears tight pants and four inch heels on the job. It's like the author is trying to convince us that Duncan and Nickie are always the smartest people in the room and no situation is too much for them. For example after Duncan does something sneaky or basically has a conversation we're reminded as justification for his 'win' in the situation that "he served in Middle East" or "He was ex-army". Nothing he can't do!
There is probably an interesting story hidden amongst all this but unfortunately the way it's presented is not very captivating to me.
Wow, First time reader for R. T. Wolfe, But definitely won't be the last. She has a her own writing style and am Glad I Gave It time. Nickie and Duncan's relationship reminded me alot of Eve and Roarke's (J. D. Robb) Only in present time -The love and caring. I also liked how She (author) involved the human trafficking line thru out the series, showing the red tape and corruption involved on all sides. Makes you realize just how Real it is. Can't wait to finish the rest of series now, Would Recommend
A young girl who was kidnapped becomes a successful cop.
The parents of a young girl turn on her; resulting in her living in various foster homes. This is a great twisted cast of characters who work to save children and girls from being abducted and raped. Not finding anyone with whom Detective Savage can trust doesn’t stop her from planning “takedowns.”
Awesome series, kept my attention and curiosity as to what happens next.. Normally, I don’t read series, as I prefer a ‘one and done story’ in one book, but this series is well written, with the main characters well fleshed out and no silly, immature chit chat.. just wish the story had ended after the third book!
This was a good series that was very excitable. How this one cop came out of being a kidnapped girl to a police woman to a detective. She was able to get the guy that turned her I n to a teenage prostitute. And how she got away.
Very good series, can not wait for the next . She certainly shown the men how to deal with sex plots with young girls . At a couple of times she could have lost her job . She carried on to free these girls ,because she new what was going to happen .

Fascinating and informative. Detective Nickie Savage is a child trafficking survivor, dedicated to rescuing other children. Savage is a very complex person which makes for a great read as she struggles to achieve a normal life.
