5 stars There are evil queens, a fae warrior, a smart magical horse, magical warfare, sword fighting, fantastic plot twists, and a totally original take on Sleeping Beauty! I found the book extremely entertaining. Even the romance and character development were very satisfying. I love this book! Every fan of paranormal romance or fantasy romance should read this.
This fantasy romance series is so good that it deserves to be famous, and this book is the best yet. It can be read as a stand-alone, but like Kresley Cole's incredible "Immortals After Dark" PNR series, both the world-building and series timeline are intricate and compelling. Fascinating villains and other characters reappear in different books, and there are some story arcs that span multiple books. I think it would be totally fine to start with this book and read the others afterward. Personally, I have read all of these "Tales of the Dark Court" except for Book 2, and I really want to read that one now.
This book is set in the magical Fae world of Underhill, which is separated into three faerie courts, each ruled by a magically powerful fae or "Elvatian" (elf) monarch, who have historically been generally violent and corrupt. Ardan is a handsome Elvatian warrior who has had a hard life. We met him as a minor character in the previous book, "The Winter Queen's Dragon". He has a seemingly impossible task of finding and killing the evil Queen of the Dark Court who somehow died but is still alive. Ardan meets and wakes up Thorn from an enchanted sleep. Thorn is a pretty Fae lady who has amnesia. Although confused at first, Thorn recovers her tough feistiness and magical skills and accompanies Ardan on his quest. I really liked both characters, who are wonderfully multifaceted. Their attraction and growing feelings for each other are believable.
This is the best story inspired by Sleeping Beauty that I have ever read. It is innovative and original. I like it even better than Neil Gaiman's "Sleeper and the Spindle", which is really high praise coming from me.
FYI, there are a few intimate and steamy love scenes. I love how the hero Ardan liked his lady to give him orders on the bedroom. Ooh la la!
i cant say enough about this book it was total awesome read it in one sitting , i couldn't put it down and had to stay awake to find out the ending and it was a shocker. i love the character and the twist to a fairy tale , Aeval is a girl that has 3 character of herself that could act as separate individuals and the one name crone put aveal to sleep to take over being the queen of the black court. All she has to do it keep Aeval asleep and alive. but the crone is a evil black queen , Ardan has to find the black queen and kill her to save his life and he finds and wakes up aeval and the story begins. aeval cant remember who she is really or what has happen and she tells him her name is thorn, why does she do that? how will the truth effect their life when they find out that the truth “I received a free copy from the author, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.”
This is the fifth book in the black court series Its the last story that just needed to be told . This is Aeval's story or as she is known as Thorne . Aeval has been through so much terror in her life she ends up splitting into three different entities amongst themselves . Morgana, the crone and Aeval . Each taking on parts of her that are taking away her pain . When Morgana is killed the crone places Aeval in a cottage just like sleeping beauty . And that is just the start of her story. I fell in love with this series and I couldn't wait to read this installment . The characters just keep getting better and better . The author takes us on such a journey with this installment. Aeval has no memory and she is such a great girl . She may not know what is going on but she comes into her own and becomes kick ass woman . She grows up a lot with Arden . She drives him crazy every now and then . Its pretty funny . Arden is such a troubled soul . He is drawn to Aeval but he is also bound to make sure the Black Queen is dead . He is fighting for his life . He is arrogant and sometimes you want to smack him upside the head but with Aeval he becomes a better man and wants to help Aeval . The author does a great job in writing this series . Jessica can twist a fairytale and make it so much better . The writing is great and I sat down and read this book in an evening . I couldn't put it down. I am kind of sad that it is the last of the series but I hope not in the universe the author has created . So if you want a great series to read check it out
A fun and intense retelling of sleeping beauty and the evil queen. A knight saving the sleeping beauty but has no clue what he has gotten into. His quest is to kill the evil queen and no one will stop him. But one young beauty with no memory will change his world. Will he past bring back the darkness or will the innocent girl find happiness? Lots of action and some hot scenes makes the retelling all the more fun.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.
The depth to these characters is amazing! A continuing story, this book flows smoothly and is full of intrigue and uncertainty. Aeval becomes Thorn in the hopes of possibly managing to defy what seems a certain fate. This storyline kept me guessing and failing! A wonderful book to be absorbed into for the weekend!
Ardan has to return to court with the head of the Black Queen. It’s not so easy to find her. Received an ARC. Loved the book and couldn’t put it down until I finished. Love anything by this author. Definitely ready for more.
New take on the fairy tale that kept me guessing and reading till the end. Great characters and a fantastic plot this story kept me turning the pages. Loved it! I am giving my honest voluntary review on an arc that I received.
What a great twist on Sleeping Beauty! The whole split personality thing introduced in previous books was great! It was a great way to intertwine a true human trauma defense mechanism with magic!
Omg I am so happy I finally got to read about what happened to the black queen. Or now Thorn!! It was also awesome to learn more about Aofie and Arden!!
