“The Angel made me do it . . .” Burned one too many times, Jed Gentry is perfectly content with his life as is—or so he tells himself. He’s got his own tattoo studio, his dream car, and friends who understand his deep-seated heartache. The last thing he needs is a complication. Namely some straight-laced accountant who looks at him like he just might be the hero she’s been waiting for—because Jed is definitely nobody’s hero. Kyle O’Neill has had it with being a sheltered daddy’s girl and she’s more than ready to spread her wings and fly . . . and somehow, she’s flown right into the lion’s den. But she refuses to fail, even as her traitorous body yearns for the wounded man who could ruin everything she’s trying to build when he breaks her heart—because there’s no doubt about it. He. Will. Break. Her. Sparks fly when these two clash in an undeniable attraction and are forced to navigate their way between two very different worlds with a little divine help in the form of a 300-pound tattooing Cupid who is hellbent on making this a match made in Heaven. ***Previously published as Inked by an Angel, this version has been re-edited with new, bonus content included. All books in the Inked series are standalones with a guaranteed HEA, but if you’d like to enjoy them in Jed Noble Elijah Charlie Tristan

I made it almost a third, but I'm done. Kyle is a weak dormouse who lets her parents run her life. She's sleeping with a guy she doesn't respect, let alone love. And we keep being treated to scenes of her horror over the view of her future if she doesn't change. But that is apparently not motivation enough to do any simple thing to change things. She's so frustratingly passive I want to push her in a pool or something so she'll wake up.

I could maaaybe get through all that if it weren't for Jed being such a doof. It seems like he should be interesting, though there's a bit too much perfection going on there (as at-home in the Country Club as in his Tattoo Shoppe!). Only there's also this entirely stupid negative motivation* hanging on as well. My last straw was him saying "Gentry men break women's hearts" explaining (to Kyle!) a painting he did of his mother crying. Because, you know, he's going to do whatever it is his dad did to make him mom cry. It's destiny!!!! That whole thing just smacks of lazy characterization to make a guy interesting or something. Personally, I find it boring.

So I'm out. The supernatural bits were mildly interesting. And there was some hint of chemistry between Kyle and Jed that I wanted to see develop. But getting there just took too long and my interest died on the rocks of weak milksop and whiner-boy idiocy.

* Negative Motivations: I kind of hate that the term "negative motivation" isn't widespread, yet. Since it isn't, I'm going to save off this little jag to append to my reviews that feature the term. Jennifer Crusie blogged about it a bit back (or, if that link doesn't work, here's a cache of the original) and it changed how I understand story. The problem with the term is that if you've never heard it before, you'd assume it meant motivations that are harmful or immoral. Not so. What it refers to is motivations not to do something. The thing is that many of us are motivated to not do things for a lot of different, perfectly valid and reasonable, reasons. The problem is that in a story motivations to not do things are a huge drag on the plot—particularly considering the fact that most negative motivations are overcome by the character simply deciding they don't care any more (or, rather, that they do care and are now motivated to do the thing). So not only do you have a counter to action but you also have a situation where to overcome it, all a character has to do is change their mind. Which means eventually, the reader is rooting for the character to get over him/herself already and do the thing we want them to do. Conflict drives story. Conflict between a reader and a main character drives readers away from story.

This is a great read. Jed is a man who has been hurt badly by a previous girlfriend. Kyle is a girl trapped in life she is not happy in. Michael is an angel with a mission, he is tasked with getting these two soulmates together. This story has it all mystery, love and heartbreak. This is a great story and I really enjoyed the concept of angels walking among us to complete God's plans.

What a fun book! I received a review copy of Jed (via Instafreebie) and just finished reading it and enjoyed it so much that I need more! Jed is a tattoo shop owner whose business is doing well but his personal life is in a bad place. Unbeknownst to him is that his top artist Michael is also an angel and is working on helping him meet his perfect match. Her name is Kyle and she's a reserved accountant whose family has been managing her life since childhood. They have planned it all out including the perfect fiancee. Kyle's problem is that she is too nice and isn't happy but doesn't want to disappoint anyone even if it means she's not living the life that she dreams about. These two are definitely an opposite's attract story but they really are perfect for each other and that is what Michael is trying to guide them to find. Now I don't want any reader to feel that this is a Disney story because there are some R rated parts to their relationship and I'm not giving away any more of the story or I will ruin it for you! Shauna Allen did a great job engaging the reader in this sweet, sexy and sometimes funny story. It is written in multiple POV so that you really get the feel of the characters. I highly recommend Jed and can't wait to read more in the Inked series.

It's not often I find myself in a book hangover with a loss for words, but this one has managed that. I'm not even sure where to start a review.
The beginning of the story is a little confusing and hard to follow, but a few pages in and I was up to speed and hooked HARD.
Kyle is mousy, she is tired of the way she feels, but has no support from her family to break the mold, add to that a fiance she doesn't really want and she's trapped.
Jed is a confident man, in all things but women. He's been burned BAD and is not looking to open himself up to that again. I can picture him in my mind with a devlish look and bad attitude, I really like him.
Charles is a tool, makes for a great side character. And even with Michael's description, I've pictured him as a big bumbling teddy bear.
The chemistry from the start jumps off the page, add a little love angel mischief to the mix and fireworks have to explode, but is it enough?
I could not put this down , the book moves at a fast pace with things constantly happening, leaving you not wanting to wait to see what happens

As I have read other books that have Angels in them and have not liked them at all. But Inked by an Angel didn't leave me frustrated with the Angel. I really enjoyed how it was put together. Shauna made the characters realistic and relatable. Even if with the main characters having totally different ways of life, the way she built the story you will find yourself routing for things to work out.
Inked by an Angel is the first book in the Cupid Chronicles. Even thought it is in a series it can be read as a stand alone, but it would be more enjoyable when read with the entire series

Loved the original and this is even better, Shauna Allen has revamped her original Cupid Chronicles and they are well worth a revisit. Basically a romance, the Inked series has a touch of paranormal, with Angels helping stubborn humans find their HEA. Jed an Kyle, our hero and heroine, have great chemistry but way too many chains of the past to see what's right under their nose and even our Angel has his own insecurities. They prevail in a well written story that catches the readers imagination and keeps the pages turning.

Wow! This was such a phenomenal read. Kyle and Jed at first glance wouldn't seem like an obvious pairing. She is a straitlaced CPA and he is a tattooed, pierced owner of a tattoo shop. With a little divine intervention in the form of an Angel named Michael, these two realize that they were meant to be. I loved Kyle and Jed. Jed proves that you shouldn't judge people from the way they look. I loved how Kyle was breaking free from her family's expectations of her. I can't wait to read the next books in the series!

Cupid and tattoos!

The first books I read from this author were an incredible series that included mystery, heartbreak and love. It was an emotional ride and I loved every minute of it. Now I got this wonderful love story full of sweet love and sexy times. This series has a wonderful concept of love and divine intervention to ensure the couple are not only the perfect match but soulmates. It’s going to be another great ride.

Jed likes his life just the way it is. Kyle is determined to get out from under her father's thumb. When Kyle starts working as an accountant for Jed, she finds herself spending more and more time around him. And boy, do the sparks fly. Will it turn into something everlasting? If Cupid has anything to do with it, it will be forever. I absolutely loved this story, and I highly recommend it!

New and improved!

Ok so let's talk. Inked by an Angel is by far my favorite book by Mrs Allen. Always has but the revamped version has passed that! It's still the same story with a few twist and turns plus it has a new epilogue in addition to the old one. Jeb and Kyle still by far the best couple.... Plus I must say I missed Michael.

ENJOY READING

Loved this story and think you will too - its a sweet and heartwarming love story with some mystery mixed in. I found the characters and storyline to be very well developed and totally engrossing. If this first book in the series is any indication of the series, then its going to be an awesome series.
