Cruelty can be kindness for some. This is true for Holly. Holly is a meth head who shows up in the previous novella, Leashed. For some reason, I thought Holly would be tossed aside as worthless because she certainly was stupid. Spencer did everything he could to help Holly but he failed. Abbott decides to send Holly to Bran, another vampire master as a last ditch effort. For those who have not read Leashed, it is recommended to read the book first. This book will not be as meaningful as a standalone.

This story is a hard one for me yet also so good. Primarily because I did not like Holly at the get go. She is a whiny drug addict who is obviously ill. She's a lost cause from a human's perspective. It also depends on how people view drug usage. Personally, I think it is an illness which is difficult to heal. Of all the attempts in the human world, Portugal is the only country with the highest success when dealing with drug users. If vampires and shifters existed, then Ms. Blevins has created another solution and an even better one. I like how Ms. Blevins tackles real life problems and uses creative ways to solve them. There was Queenie as a prostitute and how brothels could work. Then there was Uncaged and how former convicts have difficulty reintegrating into society. Now there is Holly and how drug users can be cured to some degree. This cure is a killer.

Holly goes from the sweet gentle coaxing at the hands of Abbott to blood lashing corrections from Bran. Coming from a Chinese background, I tend to lean more towards Bran's method. The way he broke Holly from her drug usage and molded her into a contributing member in society is fantastic. If I could employ these techniques in real life and not be jailed, I would. Actually, I like both Abbott and Bran's methods and find that they work effectively based on the person who needs the instructions. I loved the similarities and differences between the two methods. Each household is structured in a way that really works for them. Whilst I adore Abbott and his coven of intellectuals, I would be lying if I didn't admire and prefer Bran's brutal methods. What I admire most about Bran is his ability to find the skills of a person and help them develop it. This is near and dear to my heart as it is something I enjoy doing at work too. Unfortunately for me, I do not get to use anal plugs, enemas, whipping and caning as incentive to improve and perform.

Holly's growth in this story is a pleasure to witness. As her body heals and her brain starts functioning again, she realizes just how much she's lost due to drug usage. Each step of her training is excruciating as she learns the hard way. Earning every little piece of furniture and little privilege is difficult work. Being treated as a piece of property is the most demoralizing aspect for Holly. Explaining that she has no choice in sex and rape is impossible since she is a slave, is hard for her to accept. For those who have an issue with beatings to drive desired behaviours, this book is not for you. For those who thrive in a clear system of rewards and punishment, this is an orgasmic delight. Ms. Blevins skillful uses BDSM as her instrument of instruction and it is so good.

Whilst Spencer's story is filled with sweet and sexy kink, Holly's is brimming with sadistic tortures. The upside? Holly gets to dole out a little bit of sadism too. Holly's change from a strung out addict to a sharply hone weapon of lethal destruction is delightful. Bran's end game for her is brilliant and as it unfolds, I'm rooting for Holly all the way. The BDSM in this story is exquisite and designed for the SM hedonistic. This kinky novella is recommended to paranormal readers who enjoys watching someone growing into their full potential.

This was book 4 in the "Dark Underbelly" series. The Abbott gave Holly to Bran because she is not responding very well to the things that he and Spencer were trying to help her get off drugs and help her get her life together. In Leashed Holly acted like a spoiled brat she was ungrateful. Bran has his on brand of discipline and it starts with a whip I really liked Bran he didn't let Holly get away with anything. Holly was put in her place and she begin to learn thing that were being taught to her and the whip reinforced that. I felt bad that Spencer felt bad because he was unable to help her. I liked how Bran and his people taught her how to be a woman. The sex scenes in this book were hot. Holly found out what she is good at and she learned how to fight. I would love to read more about Marc. I love reading Candace's books they are always full of action and have me glued to them wanting more. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series and RTMC and the others.

It was interesting watching Holly go from an addicted whore to the Elegant Weapon that she became at Bran’s hand. I had no idea how Candace Blevins was going to pull this one off. In Leashed, Holly was incorrigible, and I did not think that even the hard-assed Bran would have been able to redeem her. But, not only did he change her, he made her into a bad-assed warrior woman.

There’s no way to adequately explain all that was done without giving away the whole story of An Elegant Weapon. Let’s just say that Bran’s way of breaking a person are a whole lot different than those of Abbott. It was interesting watching the transformation and how it was done. I was convinced that Bran had no mercy. That was until Holly understood exactly what her life could be like, what immortality could give her and just how wonderful it was to have some power.

If you have followed Candace Blevins, you know that she knows how to write Sadomasochism and An Elegant Weapon combined the best of her writing abilities … kink and paranormal. No, not BDSM because there was absolutely no consent on the part of Holly. So, yes, kink. And, her paranormal has always had a way of drawing me in … a little bit dark but a whole lot stimulating.

Ms. Blevins really impressed me with The Dark Underbelly series. Four short stories, all somewhat interconnected but all very different. Some sex, some kink – great characters and story lines that will keep you involved.

Dark, delicious, and degrading - Bran has it all, and lucky Holly gets to experience it all!

When we last saw Holly, she was being handed off from Abbott to Bran. That is where we start, Holly is getting to experience the differences between how the two operate. Bran is a lot more hands on, rough, and corporal in his methods. This is what Holly needs, and while she suffers, she quickly learns and complies. She also learns about herself, and sees what Bran, and apparently nobody else, saw in her.

Holly overcomes what she was in life, and becomes something she would have never imagined. Bran gives her the world, and she gives him her loyalty. It wasn't an easy path, and she certainly didn't start out in favour of it, but once she realized where she go, how she could end up, she did everything she could to get there

Loved this story! Meeting Holly in Leashed I really wanted to know what became of her and if she blossomed or burned. This book did not disappoint. It gives us great insight into the makeup of the characters we meet in the Chattanooga Supernaturals books. The transformation of Holly is really something to see and I was glad that she got the opportunity she didn't take advantage of in Leashed. She has to learn things the hard way. Then there is Bran, one of the more intriguing characters in the series and I wanted to see more of him too. We gain some insight into his way of thinking and it gave me a whole new appreciation for him. I cannot wait to see what happens to him and Holly and Malcom, perhaps Bruiser will show up again? Also, I loved seeing Abbott in this book as I knew he had hoped to be the one to cure Holly and turn her into a contributing member of their society.

Bran! You dirty, dirty boy!

Quite the in-depth profiling of the heretofore playboy without much...complexity? In fact, consuming his intense philosophical approach is rewarding as a reader of these series. This story was was even more exceptional than is usual from Ms. Blevins, in large part because of the surprise: I think I was expecting *this* from Abbott, and then right out of left field, Bran gets all...deep...on me!

I admit that initially, I did not have much sympathy or patience for Holly and found myself not really caring about her as a character. But in Bran's capable hands, he pulls the person she really is out of the millstone she became, and by methods both foul and fair, mentors her through her journey. She becomes a capable and trusted ally, and makes some important decisions about herself, for herself. And in the doing, stacks the deck in favour of the "good"-bad guys in the coming conflict. I have a serious need to see a Kendra-Holly match up against, well, pretty much any baddie!

And Bran. I have a whole new appreciation for Bran. While, as a book, the journey with Holly has its very steamy moments, to this reader its more about the focus. While his methodology certainly holds the head still and forces the eyes to see...so-to-speak, Bran is also "there"; a safety net and a provider when what is finally seen could devastate rather than be the path to rebuilding. And since Holly is not his life's match, it makes me positively giddy to imagine the character of the mate I hope he eventually finds. *Note: gratuitous HINT!

Both this story and Leashed, are perfect insights into the deeper workings of two very dominant, prominent characters in the series. These insights will no doubt add to the reader appreciation of the more political side of the series as it unfolds.

Love love loved it!

I would highly recommend reading "Leashed" first as the two are very closely linked. I have not quite read all of the books in the Kristen O'Shea series but that did not stop me from enjoying this duet.

It was really nice to see Holly's story picked up from Leashed. Bran has been around almost from the beginning but was never fully developed on his own. I really enjoyed getting a more in-depth view of his character.

A very basic synopsis is Holly is a former drug addict who Abbot is trying to save. His methods are not working so he decides to send her to Bran for a very different approach. Bran is a harsh and cruel master but it is exactly what Holly need to blossom. Together they find her strengths and capitalize on them.

As always this book was dark, dirty and hot. For a novella, I felt as though there was a ton of character development and a well thought out plot. While we could have found out more details about what happened in between the flash forward time frames I really felt this story was really fleshed out. I got exactly as much info as I was looking for and there wasn't a bunch of extra stuff I didn't care about! It was straightforward, to the point, and very engaging!

Two of the most compelling comments I can read about a book and an author's work are the phrases, "I couldn't put it down" and "I never wanted the story to end." Both of these comments always refer to anything I have read by Candace Blevins, and An Elegant Weapon was definitely more of the same! Her writing is always clean and her characters are fully fleshed out and easily related with.
This book in the Dark Underbelly series is a darker, more intense side of her writing - compared to some of her other series. But it is just as addicting to the reader.
I had not read Unleashed (as suggested) but was able to follow the story line and "catch up" with who was who, easily. At first I wasn't sure about what kind of situation Holly had ended up in, and was even shocked at some of the action taking place toward the beginning of the book .... but it all flowed together. After reading the other reviews, I feel like I may have seen Holly, Abbott & Bran thru "virgin glasses" in a way. No spoilers here - you have Really got to read this book if you love a smoldering, intense, BDSM (heavy on the SM) read, with twists & turns and surprising "feelings". Not your usual romance - but a really close relationship emerges!

Intensely amazing! First words to pop out of my mouth after reading this. Candace has such talent, her ease to hook you, grab you and reel you in. I was so into this book I read and finished it in the wee hours of the morning.
You should have met Holly Leashed (The Dark Underbelly of The Chattanooga Supernaturals #3) by now a down and out addict that just didn’t fit in the Abbots program. Hard headed stubborn and had no clue of her own self worth.

Bran uniquely different in how he does things from the Abbot, he makes no excuses and for his household it works. He’s intense and precise.

You find what someone is good at, then you hone that skill. Bran has that talent, finding what people are good at.

Will Holly be receptive to her new lesson’s? all that self destructive tendencies can they be turned into something productive? For Holly she doesn’t have a lot of options left to her.

The story is amazing in all parts, the characters, the storyline. The mix of detail with personalities. Each scene showed time, effort and the dedication of the author to bring us a amazing story. No cookie cutter story or rehashed. I read and reviewed this voluntarily.

This is another excellent paranormal romance from Candace Blevins. Although, it isn't a romance as you would normally think of romance, however, for me at least, it works well in that category.

Holly was a druggie found by Abbott. He brought he into his house to get her clean and to hopefully better her life. However, it wasn't working. She did the bare minimum, wasn't happy, and wasn't doing well. That meant that Abbott had to come up with another way.

Bran was the other way. He wouldn't coddle her and the lessons that he taught would be different and harsher. But, when the two of them got together, it turned out that the lessons he taught were the exact ones that she needed.

I really like the byplay with Bran and Holly. Holly has to work hard to get where she ends up, but she isn't given any of it, it's something that she works hard to earn. Bran's treatment is what helps Holly to get better. I enjoy watching Holly's journey to her eventual self. I really like what Holly turned into, a total BAMF. I kind of want to be Holly. Candace Blevins writes really good paranormal stories, and I really enjoy reading them.

Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.
Holly was picked up, passed out in a park by Abbott, taken into his house to detox and get healthy. But neither his nor Spencers help is enough to get her 'stuff' in gear. When all their attempts fail, Abbott gives Holly to Bran.

Bran has a totally different 'teaching style'. Where Abbott tries to teach his flock with a relatively soft touch, Bran believes in the discipline/reward approach. Everything has to be earned, from food to clothing, from blankets to bathroom privileges. And the discipline when Holly makes mistakes is swift and painful.
And the country bumpkin without the drive to change, takes to that method. She slowly turns into a sophisticated, lethal woman who gets the ultimate approval in the form of the 'chance of a lifetime'.

This is Ms Blevins at her very best. Meteing out pain and pleasure in equal amounts with her knowledgable flair. And telling a seductive story that grips you from beginning to end.

I have to say, I read a lot, and there was A LOT of it, but this is the first "vampire self-growth" book (Candace, put away the paddle!!!) that I have read. Who knew that SM can become helpful to become a self-reliant person :) and that having couple of vampires around to beat the discipline into you ... I mean, only Candace can come up with this and make it this good !!!
its the "happy ending" for Holly, who we met in UNLEASHED, but here we focus on her and Bran and you really get the meaning of "tough love" when it comes to sadistic vampires hahahah.
Of course, the whole Chattanooga area is a bit "over" in that point hihihi
I have to say, I'm not much into heavy pain for my book preference, no matter how much Candace pushes, but I really liked this book, and it gets you hooked when you start and as it progressed. Its a good read, and you really have to read it together with UNLEASHED.

Holly was not likable when we first met her in Leashed, she could care less about anyone or anything other than herself. But Bran senses something in her and decides to set up some training, she just may turn out to be someone totally different, someone she never thought she could ever be, is she redeemable?

But to get there, it takes a lot of hard work both mental and physical and Bran knows just how to teach her, and if you’ve read Candace Blevins, you know just how intense it can get. I don’t want to spoil anything so all I will say is that you will not be disappointed.

Candace does such a great job at writing strong females with just as great storylines and though I may have had misgivings about Holly’s character, I never should have doubted this author, she always delivers.

Bran gives us a glimpse of training

I am torn with this book. I gave it five stars because the writing was spot on. Great editing and it flows. However I for once with this author was not happy with Holly one of the main characters who is hooked on meth.

I love the fact that I learn so much within this author books. In Elegant weapon I learn more about how meth erodes the body and mind. But I still found Holly shallow and without depth. To be fair she did have growth with Bran. Abbott and Spenser tried with no success. Bran's sadism saves the day.

She does get special training that helps her natural abilities which was suppressed with meth. Read the book and form your own opinion

AN ELEGANT WEAPON was absolutely amazing and not at all what I was expecting. If you’ve read LEASHED already or are considering buying it, then grab this one too, you so won’t be disappointed. I absolutely loved how Holly was sorted and the steps it took to get her there.

One of the things I really love about Candace Blevins stories are the attention to details. There’s so much going on and then, she’ll throw in a detail and suddenly, I can picture everything she’s describing. One example (and it doesn’t give away spoilers) is: “Oddly, the pain was
a balancing point — like salty caramel, or citrus chocolate.”

Much like an addiction, Ms. Blevins stories will leave you craving more.

This was definitely a different book than I expected. It was not a romance- not that all of Ms. Blevins books are. It was about the total transformation of Holly. I've noticed Holly before, in relation to Bran, in Ms. Blevins' books. But when I encounter her again, going back to read books I've read or in future books, I am going to have a totally new appreciation for her. She is FIERCE! This book is intense, so dark in places. It goes in some not so nice places. So BEWARE- If you need warnings. But if you don't mind going down the rabbit hole, and you appreciate harsh, kinky stories that are focused on character evolution--- then this is the story for you! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Since life with Spence and Abbott wasn’t working out, Holly gets sent to the sadistic vampire Bran. Holly thought things were bad at Abbott’s until she becomes Bran’s. His training methods are intensively tough but were very effective in shaping Holly into the woman she never knew she could be.
Wow! I LOVED this book! What a great story. Candace sucks you in right from the start and keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end. Candace is one of my go to authors and this one does not disappoint! Well done.

Everyone responds to different stimuli. Holly is a junkie who didn’t respond well to Abbott and Spencer’s kindness perhaps Bran can give her what she needs. Bran tears her down and rebuilds her into the woman he knows she can be. The process is often painful and degrading but so is the life of a junkie. Bran makes her want more. If you want pretty this book isn’t for you if you want gritty then this fits the bill. This author takes me places I’ve never been before and gives me things to ponder.

Holly's training with Abbott and Spencer had been a miserable failure. Abbott had no choice but to hand her off to Bran, whose training methods were vastly different to say the least. After an assessment, Bran saw a spark of potential in Holly.and and she became everything she never thought she could be.

Candace Blevins' unique mind has created an enthralling world of the supernatural. Her characters are vivid and varied as well as otherworldly. Holly's journey is quite remarkable and was very enjoyable reading.

Holly and I were equally surprised when she got a proposition, about halfway through the book.
She does what needs to be done to make her life livable and almost never complains.
She is one tough woman. I wanted to call her something different but my review will probably be removed if I did.

ok, that was not at all what I was expecting and I loved the turn this story took.
First I really love the world this story is set in and I've met Bran before so my original expectations of this story are completely reasonable and the hard left turn it took would not let me put this story down I just had to keep reading. I think Holly is eminently relatable and totally kick-ass.

This was more than I expected

I always enjoy the depth of character development in Candace Blevins 's books and this was no different. To see Holly grow and become stronger like she did was such an enjoyment. I thought that it would be a lot of sadism and sex and while that was there , in the hot way that Candace Blevins is known for, this story so much more and I couldn't put the book down.

Hot, hot, hot. Holly isn't cutting it with the vampire Abbott, so she is given to Bran. Her story of drug addiction, no self worth, and slowly sinking into an abyss before redemption and resurrection was pretty riveting. The continuation of Leashed, the previous novella follows Holly's journey. BDSM is prominent in this woman's rebirth of self worth. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book .

Candace weaves an splendid tale about Holly. A junkie that needs more direction in her life than The Abbott can give. Holly is placed/given to Bran. A sadistic vampire with his own unique ways, that help Holly find her true self. I don't do spoilers, so you're going to have to read the book. 😎 It's a quick read and I love the entire series!

I enjoyed this story quite a bit even though it is NOT a romance. Some people need a major change in life to get past their own issues and Holly gets several major changes!

We get to see a different kind of life in this story - what happens when someone sees beneath the addiction to what the person could be off of the drugs and has the power to enforce rehab. Holly's addiction to meth has ruined her, as it has so many other people. She's found (in the prior book, Leashed) by a vampire who can see that possibility. Holly is very resistant to any change.

There are some things that she goes through and does that are glossed over that I would have liked to see a bit more of but we do get enough to know what is happening. While there isn't a romantic relationship, there are relationships as Holly learns how believe in herself and thrive. I thought that was the best part of the story - how her relationships with various people evolved from unwanted by Holly to respect for each other.

The steps it took to get Holly from drug addict to functioning person to thriving person weren't easy to read but did epitomize tough love (by a vampire). Interesting take on that version of drug rehab.

We met Holly in Leashed where she never found her potential so Abbot gives her to Bran for the last 6 weeks of her contract. Bran can be a vicious taskmaster - after all it is a dark story - and so can her trainers but he can also be kind and gentle. He is the first to actually see who and what she can be - An Elegant Weapon - and because of that Holly chooses to stay with him when her 6 weeks ends and to make a new contract with him. And for his part Bran sees that she is honed to perfection.

Abbott is in the habit of trying to save people. He picked Holly off the streets to try and save her from her self-destruction. But she proves to much for him. She needs a harder hand, so he gives her to the sadistic Bran. Her contract is still in place. At the end she can walk away or become part of the band. LOL!!! Bran shows no mercy with her. She is pushed begone any boundaries Abbott had instilled in her. Yet in the end she survives and becomes an asset to Bran. Who would suspect such a beautiful woman to be so deadly? Not Bran’s enemies.
