This is a story of love, loss, friendship, adventure, politics and forgiveness that will keep you guessing to the very end.
I'm Sally Brooks, a British writer of contemporary sapphic romance. These books are perfect for those of you who love diverse characters, romantic comedy and page-turning fiction. In my books you will find compelling, funny and heartwarming stories - think all the lols with all the feels. I love complex queer female characters so that's what I write and I'll keep you guessing right to the end. I live in Birmingham with my wife, our three children and two cats - Cagney and Lacey, who are surprisingly bad at solving crime.
Fantastic story!!! finished it in a day just couldn't wait. Everybody NEEDS to read Cam and Sara's story. Beautiful cover. Over the moon to discover this British author.
Bought it for the cover, which is so beautiful, but devoured it for the great writing and story. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and this novel reminded me of books by Clare Ashton and Clare Lydon, both of whom I enjoy a great deal.
Recommended by a friend and really enjoyed it. Not my normal book purchase but a proper page turner. Definitely give it a go. Perfect holiday or commute read.
I picked up this book because I saw Sally talk at Ellcon, didn’t bother reading the blurb or anything. I’m so glad I did. I feel as though this book was written for me - a ridiculous thing to say, but true nonetheless. It’s written in a style - back and forth between memories and present - that is so real in the way I think; and the two main characters a Champaign socialist and a wonderfully left wing lesbian. I couldn’t think of anything better in a romance. I know, because of this book, I shall be reading more of Sally’s work and I implore you to do the same.
I was really surprised with is one, the writing, the story, the main character, everything....! Is just perfect, it is so well developed. You might think it's just a regular lesbian romance but it just isn't, it was so different from the rest in a wonderful way. I loved Cam's journey, how she loved, what she lost and her recovery from it all.
I really enjoyed this story of love, loss and politics. It had a great mix of drama and romance to keep you hooked and intrigued as to where the relationship between Cameron and Sara would end up, especially as it had an element of secrecy to it given both their careers.
Cameron finds herself captivated by Sara Lorenzo MP after a meeting to discuss grants and funding for education programmes. This leaves them tied up in quite the scandal when their relationship is misinterpreted by the press and leads them into a whirlwind of tale where the consequences are harsh for the longest while.
Kept me intrigued, with a few heart stopping moments as events unfolded and Cameron and Sara fought to defend themselves, keep things as they were and be together. A great read! (and I may be a little bit in love with Cameron and Sara myself!) Looking forward to reading more from these two.
As the blurb said, I wouldn't know how it would end till the end! I also knew from the blurb there would be a certain plot development and felt the tension of that. There was also, from the synopsis another plot development that would lead to tension. I enjoyed it all and don't know quite how I missed this writer, but glad I've found her books now. Interestingly there is a sequel but I am going to give myself a couple of days to let the mains have a peaceful time, but I'll definitely be reading it after that.
Sara And Cam really told a beautiful story. The experiences that they had to endure and the difficulties they faced getting together again was amazing.
Loved it! The writing is concise and precise. There is no redundancy, every word that is written is pertinent to the story. Sally Brooks has avoided the trap that many authors fall into by overcomplicating emotions and situations in an attempt to add depth. Bravo! It's a beautiful story with realistic characters and an interesting plot. Can't wait to read book 2!
