One glimpse into the eyes of a stranger changes everything. On the first day of her new life, Tawnia McKnight finds herself in Oregon, her fifth state in ten years. Another new job, new friends, a heartache left far behind. Maybe in Portland she can at last find what she is looking for. Maybe she can even forget Bret Winn. But when a tragic bridge collapse rocks the city, Tawnia is thrust back into the life of the man she thought she’d never see again. And with him is a stranger, a stranger with inexplicably familiar eyes. Soon Tawnia finds herself drawn into a web of confusion and deceit. Where did the eccentric Autumn Rain come from and why does she look so much like Tawnia? Though Autumn’s agony over her missing father seems real, there is much in her past that cannot be explained. Even more troubling for Tawnia is Bret’s interest in Autumn, despite Tawnia’s own attraction to the mysterious firefighter who once saved Autumn’s life. Danger looms as Tawnia tries to unravel clues to both the past and the current tragedy in Portland. Will she find what she is looking for, or will everything she cares about slip once again from her grasp? All the stories in the Finding Home Series are complete stories without cliffhangers. Each novel is about a separate couple. There are tie-ins with the series, of course, but you do not have to read them in order. Enjoy!
Teyla Rachel Branton grew up avidly reading science fiction and fantasy and watching Star Trek reruns with her large family. They lived on a little farm where she loved to visit the solitary cow and collect (and juggle) the eggs, usually making it back to the house with most of them intact. On that same farm she once owned thirty-three gerbils and eighteen cats, not a good mix, as it turns out. Teyla always had her nose in a book and daydreamed about someday creating her own worlds. She is now married, mostly grown up, and has seven kids, so life at her house can be very interesting (and loud), but writing keeps her sane. She thrives on the energy and daily amusement offered by her children, the semi-ordered chaos giving her a constant source of writing material. Grabbing any snatch of free time from her hectic life, Teyla writes novels full of mystery, romance, and imagination. She warns her children that if they don’t behave, they just might find themselves in her next book! She’s been known to wear pajamas all day when working on a deadline, and is often distracted enough to burn dinner. (Okay, pretty much 90% of the time.) A sign on her office door reads: DANGER. WRITER AT WORK. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK. She loves writing fiction and traveling, and she hopes to write and travel a lot more. She also loves shooting guns, martial arts, and belly dancing. She has worked in the publishing business for over twenty years.
Another good read by (Teyla)Rachel Branton, well written and interesting storyline particularly interesting was the info about the Portland bridges, obviously well researched as all Teyla's books are. I would definitely recommend this book as an addition to the Autumn Rain series.
This book was originally published as "Eyes of a Stranger" in the 5 book Autumn Rain series by Rachel Ann Nunes (another pen name).... I wish they would've stated this somewhere in the description before I purchased it again...
This 3rd book in the Finding Home series takes Bret to a new setting in Portland.
It's also juggling 3 story lines - Bret & Tawnia's relationship, the mystery of why Autumn & Tawnia look like twins, and the question about why the bridge collapsed.
You'd think with all that going on, it would be unputdownable, but for some reason it wasn't. It DID keep me reading, but it just felt like it was taking its time getting to the resolutions. There is some redundancy, so perhaps that was it. Or maybe I just wanted more romance 😊
Anyway, it IS a good story, though the reveal of the bridge mystery was weak - and I especially recommend it if you want the background story leading into the author's Autumn Rain series, Imprints. Just don't read it when you're feeling impatient or craving lots of romance, lol
*There is a bridge collapse & some minor descriptions of how people died as well as the effects on bodies pulled from the water days later. While not particularly graphic, it may still be difficult for those who are sensitive
Tawnia McKnight takes a leap of faith, Tawnia accepts a new job and starts a new life in Oregon. She is hoping this move will help her forget Bret Winn. On her very first day in Portland the main bridge to the city collapses, Brett Winn is called in to help with the investigation, and find out why the bridge collapsed. As he starts unraveling a mystery, things start to get strange. He meets a survivor of the bridge collapse, who looks very much like someone he knows. When Brett introduces Tawnia to Autumn Rain, Tawnia is very confused, Autumn Rain looks very much like Tawnia.
This book was full of page turning, edge of your seat thrilling mystery. It was a cute love story and a great clean read.
Whoa! What a great plot! Third in the series, this one features Bret, Liana's brother, although it's not so much about Bret as it is about two women in his life, two women with an unexpected surprise/shocker.. not only to him but to each other. The story takes place in Portland and features a prominent bridge there, which was of special interest to me since I recently returned from a visit there and crossed that particular bridge quite a few times. I wish I had read this while there, but I was still on book 1 at that time.
I finished book 2 late yesterday, bought this one & read it overnight! Now I have found (& purchased) there's another one available with, at least, one of the same characters. Can't seem to get enough of them!
This was a good story that involved the author's very vivid imagination of a collapsed bridge and a love story that got a little lost in its midst. There is of course a HEA and the author does warn you at the beginning that it is not based on true events. In the aftermath of 9/11 there remains a "what if " that is addressed here. In glad to have it remain "what if"... but this is a cute love story that could emerge during any tragedy.
This book was just so good from the beginning to the end it answered questions on other books I've read that had some of the other some characters that were in those books Very good book I would recommend this any 1 that likes to story
This was really good. The last book of this series. I like all three of them and I liked this author. I may read more of her but no paranormal. Not into it.
