Rita Bradshaw was born on 1949 in Northampton, England, where she was educated as a good Christian. She met Clive, her husband, at the age of 16 andnow the magic is still there. They have three lovely children, Cara, Faye, and Benjamin, and have always had a menagerie of animals in the house, which at the present is confined to two endearing and very comical dogs who would make a great double act on TV! The children, friends, and pets all keep the house buzzing and the food cupboards empty but Helen wouldn't have it any other way. She still lives today in Northampton with her family. Although having enjoyed some wonderful holidays abroad she has never been tempted to live anywhere else, although she rather likes the idea of a holiday home close to the sea one day.
Being a committed Christian and fervent animal lover she finds spare time is always at a premium, but long walks in the countryside with her husband and dogs, meals out followed by the cinema or theatre, reading, swimming, and having friends over for dinner are all fitted in somehow. She also enjoys sitting in her wonderfully therapeutic, rambling old garden in the sun with a glass of red wine, (under the guise of resting while thinking of course!)
For years, she was a secretary. She began writing in 1990 as she approached that milestone of a birthday 40! She realized her two teenage ambitions (writing a novel and learning to drive) had been lost amid babies and hectic family life, so set about resurrecting them.
Her first novel was for Mills and Boon and was accepted after one rewrite in 1992 as Helen Brooks, and she passed her driving test (the former was a joy and the latter an unmitigated nightmare!) She has written 50 novels as well as several sagas as Rita Bradshaw.
Since becoming a full-time writer she has found her occupation one of pure joy and often surprised when her characters develop a mind of their own but she loves exploring what makes people tick and finds the old adage "truth is stranger than fiction" to be absolutely true. She would love to hear from any readers care of Mills & Boon.
The larger than life half-spanish business tycoon Matt de Capistrano takes one look at the fiery blonde Georgie Millett and decides to have her.He wouldn`t let the poor heroine have any break from his oozing sexiness and charm and cornered her at every turn with emotional blackmail and seduction.Gergie despises Matt on sight but tries to resist their sexual tension that erupts everytime they get near each other. The dynamic changes when Georgie realizes she loves him-and we get to see a clue of how Matt also stumbles into falling in love with Georgie but does everything to deny it!This was a force of wills, but it has one delicious outcome.Oh do i love romance and Helen Brooks always deliver!Matt and Georgie are one of a hell sexy couple and i enjoyed their journey of angst, passion and love!
"A Spanish Affair" is the story of Georgie and Matt.
Aww!
The heroine Georgie has recently left her career to become a PA and help out her recently widowed brother Robert, who has not just been a father figure to her since she was orphaned at 12, but also her pillar of support. Now, after the sudden death of his wife- he has to be both parents for his 7 year old kids, as well as manage his crumbling business! When the latter does inevitably happen- the sinking ship is saved by businessman Matt- who is instantly taken by Georgie, and soon coerces her to be his secretary. Initially reluctant, Georgie is soon impressed by Matt- whether it is rescuing her brother, giving her niece and nephew a birthday party, or gently kissing her at every moment they have alone. But both Matt and Georgie have been hurt before, and are reluctant to commit. Can these hurt souls find their HEA?
Super adorable h and H who fall in love in this sweet love story. Typical Helen Brooks characters- super obsessed and in love H; initially reluctant but soon swooning heroine, mild angst, drama and HEA.
A classic harlequin where it was good at the beginning, middle, but then the end is rushed. Literally the previous page she confesses her love and he denies but on the next page, he admits he loves her.
Meh...very bland for a Helen brooks book. It took so long to build up angst and tension, then it was a whole nothing.
The H and heroine meet when he walks into her brother’s office and hears her insulting him behind his back. She doesn’t know him so it’s particularly offensive. The brother needs a contract fr the Hero so she tries to apologise for her behaviour. Needless to say they get off on the wrong foot. The Hero comes back and makes her go w him and the brother to check the project site. She sticks her foot in her mouth again and blurts our that he (H) is destroying a butterfly meadow with his housing project. Of course she totally forgets that her bankrupt widowed brother, who she is trying to help out, needs this contract! Way to go missy.
Anyway, on the way back, the H kisses her and admits to an attraction, but he is the usual no commitments kind of guy and he makes it clear, he just wants an affair (ergo The Spanish Affair). The heroine is resentful, feeling taken advantage off, rightly so, and she stands her ground, resisting him. Since she refuses his attempt to date her, he manages to invite himself to the home she shares w her brother and his kids. She has been helping out ever since he lost his wife 6 months ago.
The Hero manages to get himself invited a lot and agrees to her stipulation that they just be friends. She has some relationship issues since she was dumped by an ex fiancé and he has some commitment angst since he is reluctant on that end.
He gets a call that his mother is sick and the heroine, as his friend, goes with him to Spain. She stays with him and there is minor OW appearance but the Hero makes it plain he is with the h. They visit mom in the hospital and when the H steps out, mom reveals that the Hero was betrayed by his love as a young man. His college girlfriend and some friends kidnapped him for ransom.
They go to the beach and almost make love. The heroine admits to loving the Hero and he loses his sh**. He reveals all about his betrayal but that doesn’t solve anything and just makes him more mad. They go home and the heroine prepares to fly back to England when Hero comes into her room to confess his love. He has been fighting it from the start. He loves her so much, he won’t develop the butterfly meadow and instead will re-name it Georgie’s (her name) meadow. The brother will just develop another property. It sounds sweet, but was just bleh...
HEA.

I like how the author takes no time and jumps right in with the story. Fireworks ensue as soon as the 36 year old hero and 23 year old heroine meet. He walks in as she talks disparagingly about him. He wastes no time in insulting her but is quickly remorseful when he realizes his insults are off base. Of course our hero can attract anyone he wants...so the heroine is a challenge to him...Now the game is afoot.....The hero was deliciously fun in his handling of the heroine. The sexual undercurrents between them were rampant! The kisses leave the characters and reader wanting more. Our heroine is a virgin with traditional values who has been burned in love. She has her heart safely encased in ice....of course the ice starts to melt under the hero’s flame thrower tactics...but sex for our heroine better include a band of gold or commitment (although she comes close)....The hero just wants a pleasant sexual affair(or at least he thinks he does, but us hp readers know better😜) they have light hearted moments and she tells him they are to be friends! He respects this(or plays along) and several weeks go by and he becomes closer to her widowed brother and the kids...of course this throws him into her path often! 2/3 of the way through the book there is such a lovely scene...goose pimples!!! Heroine realizes she is in love! Hero loves her too but of course he doesn’t know it. He will deny this love til the end because he was betrayed years ago by someone too. Anyway they go to Spain because his mom is in hospital. Mom speaks with heroine about not giving up on hero. Hero has moment of asshattery behavior and actually doesn’t express his undying love until the very last pages...heroine expressed it a few pages before which sent him running for the hills! I would have liked an epilogue. My only complaint for the book is that the ending is rushed. If the end is going to be rushed like that then give us some sort of epilogue! Since this is my 5th Helen Brooks book in 5 days I will let the lack of a longer ending slide...hmm what to read next!
I found this a good book. Georgie is a great character. She has ideals she sticks to in order to find her one true love. Can Matt love up to her ideals.
The description above is not quite right. He goes ahead with the deal and becomes something of a friend. She doesn't go to his villa in Spain until later in the story (and for different reasons). This said, I liked the way the storyline progressed and didn't focus on the trite conflict of the female assistant that it could have and that many others do. I liked both characters and they had a good chemistry (though the book is rather tame as most Helen Brooks M&Bs are). It was just right for the light afternoon read I was hoping for.

When Matt de Capistrano partnered with Georgina's family's business, there were fireworks! Although her family badly needed his support, Georgie longed to refuse point-blank to work with Matt. The man was arrogant, infuriating…sexy!
