Penelope Jones Halsall
aka Caroline Courtney, Annie Groves, Lydia Hitchcock, Melinda Wright

Penelope "Penny" Jones was born on November 24, 1946 at about seven pounds in a nursing home in Preston, Lancashire, England. She was the first child of Anthony Winn Jones, an engineer, who died at 85, and his wife Margaret Louise Groves Jones. She has a brother, Anthony, and a sister, Prudence "Pru".

She had been a keen reader from the childhood - her mother used to leave her in the children's section of their local library whilst she changed her father's library books. She was a storyteller long before she began to write romantic fiction. At the age of eight, she was creating serialized bedtime stories, featuring make-believe adventures, for her younger sister Prue, who was always the heroine. At eleven, she fell in love with Mills & Boon, and with their heroes. In those days the books could only be obtained via private lending libraries, and she quickly became a devoted fan; she was thrilled to bits when the books went on full sale in shops and she could have them for keeps.

Penny left grammar school in Rochdale with O-Levels in English Language, English Literature and Geography. She first discovered Mills & Boon books, via a girl she worked with. She married Steve Halsall, an accountant and a "lovely man", who smoked and drank too heavily, and suffered oral cancer with bravery and dignity. Her husband bought her the small electric typewriter on which she typed her first novels, at a time when he could ill afford it. He died at the beginning of 21st century.

She earned a living as a writer since the 1970s when, as a shorthand typist, she entered a competition run by the Romantic Novelists' Association. Although she didn't win, Penny found an agent who was looking for a new Georgette Heyer. She published four regency novels as Caroline Courtney, before changing her nom de plume to Melinda Wright for three air-hostess romps and then she wrote two thrillers as Lydia Hitchcock. Soon after that, Mills and Boon accepted her first novel for them, Falcon's Prey as Penny Jordan. However, for her more historical romance novels, she adopted her mother's maiden-name to become Annie Groves. Almost 70 of her 167 Mills and Boon novels have been sold worldwide.

Penny Halsall lived in a neo-Georgian house in Nantwich, Cheshire, with her Alsatian Sheba and cat Posh. She worked from home, in her kitchen, surrounded by her pets, and welcomed interruptions from her friends and family.

This was one cold hero and the heroine was angry allllll through the story. No neurotic soft touch here - this heroine was blazing mad and I didn't blame her.

Here are some of the interactions with this prince of a hero:

1. Heir to throne hero *did* break up with the daughter of one of his advisers heroine when he was 25 and she was 18 after a one night stand. And he didn't have the balls to tell her himself. He had his odious godmother do the honors along with offering the heroine money in the cruelest possible way.

2. Ten or so years later, he was going to marry his godmother's daughter until she ran off with the heroine's brother. Hero never pined for the heroine or looked for her.

3. He blackmailed the heroine into marriage, not because he cared about her but because he needed the political smokescreen of a royal wedding to avert a crisis in his country.

Hero did nothing to address all the wrongs he inflicted on the heroine. I was really glad she was showed her anger all through the story because nothing got through his thick, self-centered head. The ending was a huge disappointment because the heroine's backbone dissolved and now she is going to be part of every convoluted and wacky scheme this guy has while running the country. Heroine will never win because the hero will gaslight her for the rest of her life.

I love a good reunion story. What's not to love when an ordinary girl marries a real prince and the love of her life? This book was heartbreaking, so emotional and it had the fairy tale ending we all love! Hero's godmother was such an evil bitch I loved to hate her! Lol

Decent. I needed more emotion from Luc though. He didn't seem to be as emotionally invested as Carrie was.

Oh, and how did Carrie first gain entrance into the castle without security noticing? She once lived there, 10 years ago, but come on. It seemed implausible. Luc wasn't bothered, so I guess I shouldn't be either. Seriously though, Luc needs to talk with his lax security team. ;)

This book sounds asinine, with a prince commanding a marriage to a lady who had been madly in love with him 6 years ago as a teen. However like many of Jordan's romances there is more plot and somewhat more character development than that blurb suggests. Still not great but at least an entertaining read albeit too explicit.

So-so story. Typical blackmailed-into-marriage trope, followed by , followed by other secrets.

I just didn't feel the emotions from Luc, and never really did get a sense that he loved Carrie. Judging from his actions throughout the book, I also didn't think the marriage would stand much of a chance with all that his country was going through. But then again, even though we were privy to Carrie's thoughts, I couldn't see that her "love" was more than "lust" since they really didn't know each other very well.

Wow, ummm, where do I start?!

I rather enjoyed the political stuff that Luc has to endure, after all his kingdom depends on his direction and leadership to move from the past into the future. So a lot hangs in the balance of him treading a fine line, between what the government demands and what the people need. It isn't easy to find a balance between everything, so kudos to him. But of course this is a romance novel, so the focus has to be on the romance right?! NOPE!!!

I absolutely did not like the lack of communication between Luc and Carrie. Luc keeps everything, like seriously everything important that should be shared between 2 who are to spend their life together, from Carrie. He resorts to blackmail, kisses and sex to keep her there, made no apologies for what happened in the past and provides so little romance in terms of wooing Carrie (he just seems to accept that since he blackmailed her to stay and be his wife, his job is done in that front!).

OK, Carrie. She rants and throws tantrums like a child, instead of using words to talk things out. For a seemly smart person (or as we are told in the book), she seems so blank, mindless and spineless. Like her whole determination and personality just seems to disappear or melt whenever she is around Luc.

Overall, I didn't like either primary characters as there is nothing noteworthy or memorable about them. This reads nothing like a typical romance novel, it shouldn't even be labelled as romance due to LACK of romance and like zero communication between the 2, unless necessary.

“No, assolutamente no”.

It's everything reviewers have suggested. The hero isn't the kind you want to hate until he sees the light and then you love him madly while he grovels. He is depicted as an altruistic king who manipulates situations for his country's benefit at the cost of his relationship with the heroine. So he was asshole and even unveiling the revelations of the mean godmother at the end, there still wasn't a swooning factor that endeared your heart to him. Maybe the author took for granted the reader would see between the lines better. I don't know. Wasn't her best.

A royal fairytale romance perfect if you want to roam castles and attend a wedding.
Some of the issues were glossed over till the end. The hero turned out to be really sweet - as they always do in Penny Jordan's books - even after acting tough and sometimes obnoxious. I did think she need not have got pregnant just when they were ready to settle down after the misunderstandings. Also how did she get that tan while Jay was on the boat?? If anyone found out, do comment here. All in all, a great romantic read.

I have one Penny Jordan novel that I love and this one isn't it. I keep reading here books because I am searching for others that are as awesome as the one I love. This novel starts off wrong. Strong man is hurts that girl left him so long ago but he still has the hots for her. Oh and his country is in turmoil. Oh woe is him! But his advisors have come up with a brilliant plan. Distract the masses from real political issues by getting married! Everyone will be focused on the bride and dress that they will forget the politial issues. Really!? I liked Carrie inspite of wanting to knock her upside the head, but the Prince is a manipulative ass from the start and doesn't deserve her.

Prince Luc D'Urbino needs a wife--urgently. His Mediterranean principality is in turmoil, and only a royal wedding will solve the problem!

Years ago Carrie Broadbent shared one night of passion with Luc, so now she's more than a little surprised when he returns and demands they marry...threatening to reveal a family secret that could ruin reputations and lives. Carrie is forced to accept Luc's proposal and all that it entails: staying by his side for better and for worse, as his princess and his lover..

Ugh. Hated this. Blackmailing someone into marriage and then treating them like shit. Fail.
