Bhola is a kind-hearted but lazy old man, the despair of his hard working wife. When he catches a flock of sparrows, the king sparrow promises to reward him richly if he sets the birds free. Bhola agrees and is rewarded with a cow whose dung is pure gold! A wandering sanyasi comes to a village. The richest man refuses him alms but his brother who is poor gives him food and shelter. The sanyasi gives the poor man a magic flute. But his jealous brother cannot bear to see his good fortune. In these witty folk tales from Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, kindness and wisdom are always rewarded.
I had not read any of the Amar Chitra Katha series, but had heard of it. Last year, in May I fortunately discovered Gopal The Cowherd from the series. It was so beautiful: the images, the narration and story itself- such peaceful, childlike wisdom and flow. It helped me with my mental health as well. Today I read two jolly tales full of that old days charm where everything was slow and magical. Where one was so connected to nature that nature supported humans with its bounty through miraculous gifts! Absolutely loved it, it's a short 10 min read. Definitely recommended!
hahaha, both stories were so good. I wish I could have that DRUM that i beat it on all the places where ever curruption exists. i.e. in the Court rooms, Police stations, Govt offices, Hospitals, Schools ans in the Parliaments too. In every country it is heavily required. hahaha
I read this one for the first time and even as an adult, I liked this book. It felt really good because most of the other ACKs I read recently didn't age well, so this was a pleasant surprise. The book has 2 stories: the first one is good, you can read it to kids without any hesitations, I'm sure kids will find it quite imaginative and interesting. The second story is okay, but not as good as the first. The art is very well done, I especially loved the funny and curious expressions on the characters.
