Visionary Investigator

What would you do if everything you touched told a story?

Life for Scarlet hasn’t been easy.

Being a 25-year-old criminology student with a tiny Netflix addiction, you’d think life would be simple. Too bad everything she touches induces a series of visions.

As Scarlet attempts to avoid her reputation as the crazy, fainting lady, she’s assigned her final project: examine a crime scene with five righteously hot, attractive men.

When she accidentally bumps into a crystal ball and triggers a vision, Scarlet believes she can kiss her dream of becoming a criminal investigator goodbye.

To Scarlet’s surprise, her troublesome gift is about to be her ticket into an apprenticeship with the top private investigator organization in the country. Unfortunately, she missed the memo about the existence of the paranormal race. What’s more shocking? She might be one of them.

Every person has a past. Every object holds a tale.

Visionary Investigator is a new paranormal reverse harem series.

Review copy kindly provided by the author in exchange for a honest review
Set in the same universe as the Starlight Gods series, Visionary investigator tackles a new realm that readers would be more familiar with . Earth, well Wilson’s vision of it , so expect a little different ,as when Wilson plays around with a world, you know that something intriguing is going to happen.
Never disappointing her readers, Wilson introduces readers to Scarlett.
Scarlett seems very human and fits perfectly into Wilson’s universe given her unique female characters. A red head who seems to faint a drop of a bat. Gifted with physic skills and determined to become an investigator. It’s hard not to like this girl as she isn’t letting anything stop her. She got a level head on her shoulders and a bestie who got her back no matter what.
However it’s far from a simple life for Scarlett. Wilson likes to get heroines right into the midst of things and Scarlett soon finds out the truth about her quiet life. Solving crimes is the least of her problems. Whilst Scarlett may think she knows herself there is a whole lot of hidden secrets that have been locked away. So get ready for some explosions and whity dialogue. As in this alternative futuristic world of Earth, Wilson allows supernatural to rule the world secretly .
So when Scarlett’s small little world collides, you know that something good is going to happen. As once they are loose , they are ready to reveal all and show flaws and more . Diving into a more intrinsic world that readers will love. Visionary Investigator is everything Wilson is known for . There plenty of moments that readers will enjoy. This isn’t a slow burn novel, it’s full steam ahead and you won’t forget these guys in a hurry.
Especially when you find out how closely related this universe is really is and get to really get inside Wilson’s head and see how her imagination runs wild.

Amazing!!

If you love falling into a whole new world then you so have to read this book. It may feel like the world we know but that very quickly changes as we get to know Scarlet with her gifts. I spent the first half of the book curious about the why of what was happening only to have My mind blown repeatedly during the second half. I fell in love with the world, characters, and the arching story line. I can't wait to see where book two takes us. A must read for fans of paranormal reverse harem romance novels! I loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

Visionary is set in the same universe as Dark Wish and there is some crossover. If you’ve read Dark Wish and Tainted Rose you’ll have an idea of what kind of mythology you’ll be looking at, and personally I love Yumoyori’s take on the supernatural. Set in the future, it’s vaguely futuristic in the design and aesthetic sense but a lot of the tech and dialogue is 20th century. Setting it like that makes it slightly inconsistent at times (I’d think Kindles would be a little more advanced 3000 years in the future) but having the familiar tech sidetracks any explanation of tech that might otherwise bog down the story.

Scarlet is an enigma, most of the time I really liked her and part of the time I just wanted to slap some sense into her. Which speaks to me being drawn into the book. Yumoyori has a gift for dialogue and some truly delightful banter. It’s reverse harem so of course the boys are awesome and funny, that’s almost always a given, but she’s woven some real flaws in them to make them more interesting than 2-D orgasm-delivery poles. It may just be the first book but there are definitely 2 of them I need more backstory on.

In short, Yumoyori does it again, keeps building her world, and we get in a good laugh in the meantime. Keep it up Yumo. Keep it up.

The year is 5012.... futuristic setting since it is 5012 right? Wrong. Just normal present day set in 5012.

I dislike heroines who depend on a man to to be happy.

Some stuff don't add up but might be an interesting story for a different audience.

3.5 stars... I really cannot abide cheating. I feel like the main heroine is childlike and a great hypocrite.
Really, if the start of this book was different this story would be so much better.
As it is, I've struggled to finish it, and I will not read the sequel

Scarlet is not your average girl. Whether it's her bright orange hair, her killer curves or the fact that she receives visions whenever her palms touch solid objects, she's one of a kind. This hasn't made life easy. Her mother was murdered when she was still small, her dad ran off. Known as the weird fainting girl who wears gloves she has been shunned. She has a loser boyfriend and an awesome bestie Cece. However, she's brilliant and determined to be a success as a criminologist. While on assignment with acclaimed Team Seven for her final exam one touch changes her life forever. Their current case happens to be a deadly one and is highly personal to Scarlet. Her "gift" is invaluable to the team and may just keep her alive. It also leads her to an apprenticeship with the team of 5 gorgeous guys who are all at the top of their chosen field and whom all want to be with Scarlet. A whole new world is opened to Scarlet with Team 7. There is much she never knew. This includes information about herself as well.

Jaxson, Christian, Junho, Ethan, and Michael make up Team Seven. Kendrick is their boss and a special father figure to Scarlet. I loved his relationship with Scarlet. They are all paranormals, shifters of a type from different planets. They have all suffered great loss, are successful, and are incredibly hot. Each scene delivers a new favorite guy. They are all pretty perfect and their connection with Scarlet rings true. I loved their tender, caring, protective ways with Scarlet. I wasn't a fan of the timing of when Scar got together with Jaxson, but I did understand it and I love the two together. There is already depth to their bond. Cece is as good as it gets in the best friend department. She is ruthlessly loyal and protective of Scar. Every girl needs a Cece in her life. Moonlight, Scarlet's cat is a kickass kitty. I adored this little guy. And then we get to Scarlet herself. Despite the fainting and crying, she is seriously strong. She managed to handle every shocking revelation thrown her way. She adapted to each deadly situation using her brain and skills. She embraced her new circumstances and "personas". I love each time she took ownership of herself and the situation. Dancing, car buying or putting a witch in her place, Scar's a cool chick!

The storyline was highly entertaining. It's told in multiple POV's and incorporates dreams from Scarlet's childhood. Scarlet as a young child was absolutely precious. The bad guy, Xerxes is a worthy opponent. This is important to me. The case was far-reaching and had huge implications. The cross-over with the Starlight books, Ms. Wilson's other series was brilliant. I can't wait for the Mako/Scar friendship!!! This could have easily been a five star. I took off a star due to repetition on the first part of the book. However, as I said it was entertaining. The first conversation between Scarlet and Cece convinced me that it was a must-read for anyone and everyone who enjoys Reverse Harem. I can't wait for more!

I absolutely loved this book. So many ups and downs that I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride. Yumoyori Wilson is amazing at creating her characters and different realities. I really enjoyed Scarlet who is awesome she’s the perfect blend of tough as nails and vulnerable. And all her men oh my I can’t wait to see what all they hide in the next book since not all was revealed in this book when it came to them. And Cece I want to know more about her so hopefully there will be more of her story in the next book or maybe in her own book because who actually knows when it comes to Yumoyori Wilson’s mad story weaving skills.
So heck yeah I recommend this book because it’s absolutely amazing!

5-star potential, but editing, grammar, and continuity issues dragged this interesting plot back to a neutral rating and lost a potential reader for this series-- it's wasteful to pay 3.99 for a book that hasn't gone through an edit/proofread.

Wilson has a wonderful imagination and the ability to tell a story, unfortunately, the worldbuilding is very poor-- examples, the story is set in 5033AD, yet there are still cars, Uber, twerking, and frequent references to current fashion designers--why bother to set the story 3000 years in the future if nothing changes?

The remainder of the review contains possible spoilers....

Other issues stick out such as Scarlett's dream to work at Paranormal INC, but she thinks the agency name just a catchy phrase and isn't aware of paranormals. If supernaturals aren't out of the closet, why would an agency call themselves this? Punctuation and grammar are questionable in many instances (lack of commas, and odd placement of semi-colons, for example), and some descriptions are redundant to the point of looking like cut&paste insertions (notably, regarding her alcoholic and abusive father, and improper use of 'myself'). Scar cheats on Jake, but gets upset when she finds out Jake has been cheating? Err, Kettle, meet pot.

Scarlet has had her touch-visions for 20 yrs, and I am shocked at how often she forgets her gloves and touches something. I really enjoyed the characters as well as the basics for the plot, but the unsophisticated writing style was more forgivable in her Reflections series which boasts an anime-like quality.

If the author wants to sell at these prices, she may want to consider a proper developmental editor to help with worldbuilding and excessive wordiness. The talent is here, but grammar nerds, like me, will be gritting their teeth if they can finish the book.

Okay so I had my eye on this book even before it came out.
Then when it finally did, I downloaded a sample.
I was totally pissed that it didn’t live up to the hype.
Fast forward almost 6 months.
I skip the first 3 chapters and start reading. That’s where it actually gets good! That were the story finally comes to life! So glad I did.
Cece, Jake and Scar? What do they all have in common? For starters they all think they’re doing the right thing and are allowing their emotions to sway them and their judgement.
Now I understand pity dating, BUT COME ON!! There is no practical reason Scarlett couldn’t break up with Jake. He doesn’t!clean or pay rent, he drinks, does drugs and parties all the time, and he’s almost always jobless! There were no physical or financial inconveniences that would draw out the process of Scarlett kicking him out of her apartment.
It’s either luck or fate that you end up sleeping with your future boss.
A lot of parents don’t tell their children things, and if they die young a lot of the time, those secrets are taken to the grave.
Scarlett’s dad, her uncle, her grandmother, her homeland, her family tree, her biological quirks, her memories, the people she’s with 24/7, and her cat; all of them..... she was lucky to actually learn about them even though her fricking aunt was suppose to tell her!
BTW Xerxes was Greek mythology, and it’s an insult to his legacy that this entitled asshole is tainting it by sharing the same name.
You were all hopping for a little group action? Well your gonna be disappointed. The furthest this book got was a little vouerism, a hand job and a slight lick of come. Otherwise is was heavy petting, kissing, and one-one-one sex. Hopefully the next book will be better.
The rest? Nope. Not saying. It’s so much more satisfying to leave you with juicy morsel’s that while enticing, don’t make sense without the whole.

**This review is possible to contain spoilers.**

This book is told from multiple POV's, however, the majority of the POV's are from the heroine.
Scarlet Sinclair is a young woman who has had a rough go at life.
Being labeled as a freak at a young age forced her into a life of solidarity. She only had her mom, aunt, uncle, and a pet cat to keep her company.
But when her mom is brutally murdered, her life is thrown into a tailspin. Her father abandons her to live with his mistress, and soon after her aunt leaves her as well.
The only living relative who cares works a lot but is there for her no matter what.
Scarlet learns to deal with her visions in the best way possible.
Later in life, she makes a friend in Cece and even starts a relationship.
Fast forward five years and Scarlet is finishing up school in criminology. She has to do an assignment within a unit, but before her chosen assignment she goes out with her best friend for some fun.
Her love life had become stale and her boyfriend a lazy mooch. This is when she meets Jaxson White.
A man that sets her on fire with just a glance, but don't get her started on his voice.
Things look up for Scarlet when she finds out Jaxson is who she will be doing her assignment with, and later the team she is assigned to permanently.
Scarlet's world is turned upside down when she goes to work for Paranormal Inc. Things she didn't know existed suddenly do, and she is one of them.
Luckily, she has a great unit to support her and an even better best friend.

Follow Scarlet's journey as she learns about her life while making a relationship with Team Seven.
It is filled with enlightenment, romance, and confusion.

I highly recommend this story to others wanting to read it.

The ONLY reason I gave this story 4 Stars is because I am not a fan of cheating.
Scarlet cheats on her boyfriend of 5 years when she meets Jaxson at the club.
You later find out her boyfriend, Jake, had been cheating on her as well which leads to a break up.
Though Scarlet had been contemplating breaking up with her boyfriend for some time, she still cheated.
I personally don't that aspect of the book. I have never been a fan of it in books.
I see how it plays into the story line though and I knew she would have a happily ever after with her team so I pushed through it.

I'm excited to see where this story goes and what is to come next.

SPOILERS!

At the beginning, She’s conceited. She looks good and she knows it (and constantly comments on it). I’m all for a woman owning how she feels about herself, but to constantly comment on it (at least in the first half of the book) is crazy annoying. but she stays with a boyfriend that it seems she almost can’t stand. Doesn’t make sense.

I actually HATED her, at first. She doesn’t have feelings for Jake, yet is so aggravated when he reaches out to find out what happened to her when she never came home.

And then she decides to break up with Jake now that she’s found Jaxson. She states that she “needed a man who was confident in himself and in me. Not someone who’d worry about me shaking my milkshake and bringing all the boys to the yard” and yet that’s exactly what she did. She went out dancing, and slept with another guy while still in a relationship with Jake. Talk about a hypocrite.

And then she’s all crying all over the fact that he cheated/is cheating...but she did the very same thing!

Also, I have to say she’s not coming off as the smartest cookie. I mean, here she is...with psychic abilities and it never once crossed her mind that an organization called Paranormal INC just might have something to do with the paranormal?

Throughout the book, I just wanted to slap some sense into her. It wasn’t until the focused moved off her relationship with her boyfriend that book actually got better. Still, I had a difficult time really getting into this character because of her behavior at the beginning.

Also, I was disappointed because while there is some attention paid to the physical aspect of her relationship with her guys, there isn’t really any development of the guys themselves. I think they’re really interesting characters, but not much was really done with them. Hopefully the next book is better, because I would love the opportunity to learn more about them.

Okay so I want to start off with saying that I only gave this book a 4 star rating because of something the main character does that doesn't set right with myself. If you want to know what it is read the last paragraph of this review under ***Spoiler*** it's just to make sure I don't mess with the story experience for anyone who doesn't want to know before reading! I can see where the issue should be in the story it just is a personal no go for myself. In the end I think that it wont be an issue past when it does happen.
All that being said I enjoyed this book. Maybe not as much as Yumo's other work but it was still a really strong story with well developed characters that will lead to a great series that I can not wait to get my hands on!
This book contains everything you could hope for. a kick ass MC and sexy guys who don't try to hold her back, romance, Sadness, Happiness, Laughter, and I will say some confusing moments but they all make sense in the end!
Well worth the time it takes to read! I highly recommend this book as well as any other works by Yumo!

***Spoiler***
near the beginning she cheats on her sleazy boyfriend and then gets upset later when she finds out he did so as well. this just didn't set well with me and did make me upset with her for a bit. as mention before i can see where it almost was needed in this book so it is worth it to push through it.

Holy Orange Haired Shifters, Batman!

Yumo, you've done it again.
Visionary Investigator takes place in the same universe as her Starlight Gods series (which is fantastic, and you should read at least book 1 before reading this one as it gives a bit more explanation of the universe).

This series follows Scarlet Sinclair. She's probably a human who has "the sight". She can see the past and sometimes the future. Due to something that happens in her life early on in childhood she decides she wants to go into criminology.

Scar meets some handsome men who are all part of an investigation team for the top investigation firm in the nation. Her best friend, Cece, is amazing and wonderful and accepting and helps further her shopping addiction.

This story is intriguing, hilarious, novel, and long enough for some real story to happen. There's some fun sexy times too.

This MC isn't some helpless weakling. She kicks ass and has and makes her own money (plenty of it). She likes sex and isn't afraid to ask for it.

I cannot WAIT to see how things progress with Scarlet, Jaxson, Christian, Ethan, Junho, Michael, CeCe, Kendrick, and the others in future books!

Great start to a new series!

If you are a fan of Ms. Wilson's Starlight God's series with my favorite, Makoto, you are in for a treat. If you've not read the two books out in that series yet, what are you waiting for?!?! These world's tie together so you definitely don't want to miss out!

Visionary Investigator is set on Earth, but really it's just one of the realms whose real name is Earthala. Scarlet is in her final year of Criminology and her final assignment. She believes she is just a special human with psychic abilities. She's sassy, confident and has the skills to back her claims of being an ACE in the field.

She gets assigned to the most elite team at her dream organization for her final assignment. Jaxson, Christian, Junho, Michael and Ethan are hot, sexy and great at what they do. And the best part, they all want Scar, to share!

Ms. Wilson did a great job of expanding on this world without detracting from the original set of stories. I can't wait to read the next book to find out what happens next!!!

I only got two other reads from this author but I knew that she's one of the authors who will always have my heart and support.

She has a way of creating an amazing universe, definitely out of this world, wherein there are a lot of equally amazing characters. Yes, not only her settings buildup is amazing, she also has this knack of writing unique heroines. Scarlet is different than Makoto but it's like both of their cores are exactly the same. Even Cece Alexandra Rose is in a whole other league.

The harem settings is kind of similar with the starlight gods series, too. There's a focus in a certain hero at a time. (in starlight, makoto's relationship with ryder is the focus first. here, jaxson is ryder.)

I love the guys from Team Seven. Right now though, I find Ethan the most interesting. He's just so random and comic i can't help but imagine him as an anime character lmao.

Love Scar and the men of Team Seven!!

After reading Yumo's other work, the Starlight Gods series, I wasnt sure if I would love Visionary Investigator as much as I did Dark Wish and Tainted Rose. Boy was I wrong! I loved Scar and her delicious men of PINC. I loved the story and how mysterious and suspenseful it was. I love how different the guys are and that not everything was revealed about them (leaves you guessing and wanting more). Definitely have my favorites, but I bet that will change with each book haha.

I enjoyed the investigatory aspect of this book a lot, made me reminiscent of CSI and other crime solving shows that I like. I wasn't a huge fan of Cece to be honest, but that didn't deter me from loving this book! I cannot wait for Book 2 this year and have all the novellas/crossovers to tied me over until then.

If you loved SGS by Yumoyori, then definitely pick this one up too! Oh and I am certainly not a cat person, but dang do I want my own Moonlight <3

OMG!! LOVE this new series!!

So much packed into this book!! LOVE the characters - especially the MC and her bestie. I am reading Yumoyori's other series The Starlight Gods and I am fangirling over the crossover of the worlds as well as the characters!

For her third book Yumoyori does it again! I am now a true fan - this book had me intrigued from the beginning - there are a lot of questions answered along the way but it leaves the series open for character development especially with the guys. #whychoose I like how she develops the MC she is a strong female character but her abilities can sometimes leave her vulnerabile - her interactions with her bestie is a hoot and I love the relationship with her "uncle". Look forward to the next book out at the end of this month!!

This is a definite home run by Yumyori Wilson...this is a well written book that drags you into the story from page one up until the very end! I love Scarlet, such a strong female character, but she still has her faults and insecurities that make her realistic to the reader!! I especially liked that she meet all the guys at different times and that doesn’t just jump into bed with all 5 of them. All the guys are all very different and bring a different connection to their relationships! I have to admit that Jaxson and Junho ate my favourites so far! And how funny is Cece...I love how she just pops up everywhere! Overall this is a highly recommend RH series and I cannot wait to read even more!!

Scarlet has been different all her life and it's caused problems for her. She's adapted to her visions though and even attended criminology school. Now at the end, she's assigned to work with a unit at Paranormal Inc. This opens up a whole new world to Scarlet. I enjoyed this book for the most part and I like how we get multiple POV. There's one thing that really bothered me though and **SPOILER ALERT**** it's the fact that Scarlet had a boyfriend when all this started. Even though she wasn't happy in her relationship and he wasn't a stand up guy, I still didn't like the fact she cheated. Even if she had called him the night she met Jackson and ended it, I would have been happier than her cheating. Other than that, I enjoyed the book.

I absolutely love this author. Every book I’ve read of hers is so unique it literally is like nothing I’ve read before (aside from her other books). Scarlett is kick-a** which who doesn’t love a girl who can take care of herself? She starts off thinking she’s a human with this curse until she meets five hunky guys from Paranormal Inc then her whole is ripped wide open. Not only does she find out she is not a human but also that she’s not even from Earthala. Oh and she’s being hunted but the same d-bag who killed her mother. I don’t want to give away any spoilers because this book is definitely worth the read and I don’t think I could do it just anyways.

Vibes of Merry Gentry and Anita Blake

Great read. An orphaned student wants her dream job of investigator at PINC. What she is unaware of is that she is one of 5 girls who are being targeted for death. The team she joins is made up of 5 males and the bonds between her and them is instant. Can they stop the killer from any more killing especially as her life is at stake? What are the secrets of her past and why does her Professor keep a fatherly eye on her since the murder of her mother? Great storyline but it seemed to get a bit bogged down with the relationships between her and her team. Loved her BFF and the cat that had been her constant companion since she could crawl. If you love Laurell K Hamilton's books then you will love this series.

This is related to to Dark Wish and Tainted Rose, but set on earthala. Scarlett dreams of being a criminal investigator, to be able to investigate her mother’s murder. She has not had an easy life but things are about to change for Scarlett and she will find it truths about a lot of things

Full of excitement and drama, our fiesty heroine will find romance and answers. The snarky humour in the book adds to the fantastic story. With a great cast of characters, i absolutely loved this well written story and I am so looking forward to the next book in what is promising to be a fantastic series

Great story

I really liked Scar as a lead. She is a mix of strength and insecurities. She is cool, and I would love to just hang out with her. The guys are great, and each is unique. While most of the story is from Scar’s perspective, we do get some scenes from the guys POV. I can’t wait to learn more about them as the series continues. I like that towards the end there is some crossover with the Dark Wish universe, but I felt that the Visionary world was separate enough from the other series, and I wouldn’t have had to read Dark Wish or Tainted Rose to know what was going on. I can’t wait for book 2 in this series!

Another great book from Yumoyori Wilson. Set in the same universe as Dark Wish you see some cross over and characters., Visionary Investigator is set on Earthala.
Scarlett dreams of being a criminal investigator working at the top investigation organisation, Paranormal INC. For her last assignment at school she gets assigned to the acclaimed Team Seven and one touch changes her life forever. This story is filled with excitement, drama and romance, with a feisty heroine and great cast of characters, it’s a book you won’t put down. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to seeing what’s next.

This book was so amazing I honestly don’t have enough words. Yumoyori is such an amazing author, every book she writes is better than the last. The characters are so vibrant and alive. They draw you in like you’re right there next to them experiencing it with them. I swear when that sleezeball hit her I wanted to reach through my screen and slap the shit out of him. Yumoyori also does an amazing job of tying this book into her other books. It’s like a full world immersion which is a rare and beautiful experience as a reader. You won’t regret choosing this one!

Wow wow wow

I'm absolutely enchanted by this new story from the author of the Starlight God's series. If you read A Visionary Christmas in the Snow and Seduction anthology, you will have met Scarlet and her boys. This is where their story begins. A sassy student, her demonically fabulous best friend, a flux of sexy investigators, murders and whole lot of clubbing are wrapped up in the author's uniquely kooky writing style. You won't be able to put this book down, I certainly couldn't. The best bit? There's more of Scarlet's story to come as soon as the new year does. Squee!
