This is something about self-love—something they don’t teach in school. Something that’s very hard to learn on your own. This is something about putting yourself first because it’s okay to love yourself before anyone else. This is something about doing what’s best for you, no matter what people say, because only you know what you deserve. This is something about being real, being real to who you are and accepting things as they come and change. This is something about your mistakes, about your flaws, and about how beautiful it is to get up and try again. This is something about being you, about using your voice when you’re afraid. About building enough courage when you feel like standing up to something you don’t believe in, something that’s wrong. This is about you, and every day should be about you, and that’s something you should always consider.
Finally a book of poetry that is remniscent of the R.M. Drake I first knew and fell in love with. After a few mediocre books, this was pure soul food and I loved this collection!
waking morning keep going people trouble you take it in letting go sweet girl the holy word delicate flowers on another planet . expect to break the rules of understand me to feel nothing filled with life i want the one day moments away damn thing time to time rain storms discouraged tonight some people what you have done do not beg what i know . messy life important art . tragic life
Solid poetry in this one here. I’m interested in his concepts, and I will be looking into his other works. I would actually rate this a 3.5 but the goodreads app won’t let me, and it much closer to a 4 than it is a 3. Parts of this project were uninteresting to me. I expected something else when looking at the cover. I thought it would be a lot different than all other modern poetry, but it seems the constant trend of love poems, and in a romantic sense, still continues. But, there are some really interesting poems in here. Some of which are my favorites.
Now, he does separate himself a little bit by covering ideas that are less romantic. Things like what it means to be human, and love in a general sense rather than romantically, and even hope etc etc. Regardless, I would say about 70 percent of this project had to do with either welcoming in a significant other, or watching them leave and accepting that. Which is fine if you’re into it. I can be sometimes. Just not 70 percent of the time.
I still enjoyed it enough to be interested in his other stuff. I just wish this lost/found romantic love trend would slow down a bit.
So this is one star for me only because I think it’s too simple, the poems don’t make the reader do any work, he’s just stating a bunch of inspirational lines in a row. It gets very repetitive to the point where it feels like you are reading the same 6 poems in a row, not a lot of variation to the themes or language used, in fact it seems like he reuses lines quite often. There doesn’t seem to be a deeper meaning to the poems, just quick things jotted down that someone could read for easy inspiration if they wanted. Not my type of poetry.
This book was a re-read and I’ve found it to be fitting even today. I like the various emotions and feelings this book elicits. It leads to self reflection, and causes you to examine your self love, look on with a positive outlook, create empowerment, find strength, and to reflect on previous or current pain and move on with hope and love.
As someone who has seen Robert M. Drake quotes all over the internet, it was a good experience to read some of his poetry in book form. I always saw them on Instagram as the "basic quotes" girls would put as captions, so for the longest time I never gave him the light of day. I'm glad I did now though. I feel as though if I read his poetry when I was younger than I am now, some of it would be foreign to me and it wouldn't make sense. You know, the feelings that happen when you're recovering from a heartbreak, no matter the kind. Then you learn how to love yourself before loving someone else. I thought it was interesting, his take on love and heartbreak and self doubt. I didn't realize we had a similar mindset when it comes to that. I did see a few in this book that I first saw on Instagram or Facebook, but it was nice getting to see it written in his own words. Needless to say, I can't wait to read more.

I love this book so much. The poems are really beautiful, true, sad, so it makes you think about everything and you will make a move. Good news: At the beginning of this one, we can see all his books (like always) and three more books are going to be released next year. I will definitely want to read it. Moon Theory proves that he can do anything what he wants to but he will never forget a poems. So next time when you will complain that he has changed himself, remember this.
For it being the first time I read a poetry collection I honestly loved it and I can’t wait to read more modern poetry.
Some of the poems in this book were really good, like really good! It has definitely inspired me to write poetry myself.
The poet described his hurt and the fact that he’s seen and dealt with hurt face to face many times.
There were no big words nothing special but it did feel heartfelt and motivational.
I finally started annotating which is great and felt that really started expressing my exact emotions and I think I’ll be doing that a lot more of from now on.
not really for me I think... a lot of the poems were a bit cliche in my opinion and I found it hard to find a deeper meaning then what was explicitly on the paper. However there were a couple poems that I really enjoyed. This being said, I don't think that the good poems outweighed the bad ones and for that reason I probably wouldn't recommend this book to someone else. The usage of damn also made be cringe a bit, I understand it was used for emphasis but I didn't really like it.
I understand how someone else could really like this book but I didn't have that much fun reading it, I gave this book 3 stars because there of the couple of poems that I did really enjoy.
It takes a lot to make me cry tears of joy, but this book succeeded on nearly every page. The entire thing was written like one solid flowing letter and it also told a story in such a remarkable way that I feel everything I reread I'll catch new pieces. Some of the poems here were super simple and not very artistic, but they got the point across and I appreciate the honesty of each one. I love how my mood increased simply by rea ding this and how effortlessly a sngle book was able to turn my day around.
I found out about R.M. Drake through instagram and I love many of his work there. This collection didn't have what I loved from IG though unfortunately. However, I do have some favorites here. This book is a little depressing so be ready to get all in your feelings when reading this. I wish the table of contents sorted the poems out based on the #hashtags in the front of the book, such as love, life, freedom, peace, etc.
I was sorely disappointed when I read Drake’s “Black Butterfly”, which is why I put off reading another work of his for so long. Unlike the previously mentioned, I loved “Moon Theory” and I cannot wait to read the rest of the books in this series. Drake covers topics such as self-love, regret, heartbreak, forgiveness, love and finds a way to create poetry that helps sooth one’s soul. I will definitely read this book again!
Could not put this down. Finished within 2 hrs and cried throughout the entirety. Lots of self reflection, of my past and present relationship not only w myself but with those currently in my life. How I loved, and once it was denied I was fearful of shedding any sort of light until I met my current partner who’s encouraged me to ignite my flame and live all of my moments fearlessly. 100% will check out the rest of this authors’ collection, how great it is to be vulnerable 🥹🥰✨

A really lovely and warm book. The kind of thing you want to read before you sleep. I loved popping this open and reading Drake's words.
The only thing keeping this from the 5-star rating is the occasional unserious tone or very casual way. I'm a very dramatic writer, so sometimes the casual style doesn't resonate with me as much. That doesn't mean either is worse or better, it's just a personal preference.
If you like reading poetic thoughts, this is a great one for you.
Drake writes with a voice that makes you feel something. I've read many of his previous collections, and Moon Theory is by far my favorite. Page after page, Drake reminds readers that the self should be loved before all else.
Read this book of self love poetry at a time in my life I needed the biggest pick me up.
It wasn't as submersible as the last Drake poetry book I finished but I still felt lifted, even keeping track of my favorites for those darker moments.
This is my least favorite book from Drake. I didn't feel the depth as I have in the other 2 books I've read of him. I'm still a fan of his work but this one wasn't his best. I'll still be purchasing others though.
I really enjoyed the beginning of the book, but I was bored by the end. The book starts off really well and the author writes beautifully; however, the end of the book sounds like you can not love anyone until you love yourself and I personally don't believe that.
Excited for the other 3 volumes I bought along with this ones. A favorite from Moon Theory...”Some things in this world should never be explained, like the first time someone touches your soul, the moment you discover your purpose, and the last time you kiss someone you love.” -YOU LOVE YOU
I connected with the majority of these poems, some more than others, but I enjoyed their simplicity and strength. I needed some self-love encouragement, and this provided what I needed. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.
Found this at the book store last weekend and apparently Mr. Drake is a hecka famous poet on ig lol I dug how real the poems in this are and the range of the themes of love, honesty and confidence were really touching. He makes writing poems look easy like okay sir.
This book goes in depth about the various feelings of life, what it means to be alive, to be in love, to be in power, etc. It was a great read. It makes you think about how you see yourself and those around you.
I'm not feeling this book. I love the other books, but this particular one just doesn't have the depth as the others. I just feel more complaining than a deep connection or inspiration.
