I've been putting off writing this review. For some reason are the 5-star reviews sometimes the hardest one to write. I mean how will I be able to express how much I enjoyed reading this book? Even now I'm a bit lost for words. But, I will give it a try.

How We Found You is the sequel to How We Found You. I've not read the first book, but I did not find it hard to get into this book, although I did several times during this book think that I really need to read How We Found You to get the backstory to the story in this book. Just to get the know the characters that I've come to care for, a bit better.

The setting for How We Found You is in the future, not that far for in the future, but it feels like another world. The futuristic technology is one aspect that made me love this book. To read about how everything has progressed fascinated me. But, there are those that are afraid how the progress that sees the birth of children not through the usual way as a sign of the end. For Kate does this mean that there are those that want to kill her son. And, they will try every means necessary to succeed.

First, I want to say that this book intrigued me from the beginning. I loved the setting of a futuristic South Africa, of a cult after children to stop a prophecy and of a mother who that will do everything to protect her children. The writing is fabulous, I was pulled into the story and the only thing I regretted was not reading the How We Found You first. Yes, you can read this as a stand-alone, but I personally would have started with book one. But, at least I have the first book to read now.

I will end this review by saying that this book is marvelous and I greatly enjoyed reading it!

I want to thank TBConFB for providing me with a free copy for an honest review!

I was hooked on this series after reading Why You Were Taken, but I didn't come to these books the usual way; I am not much of a reader of thrillers. Which speaks JT Lawrence's skill and versatility as a writer. I first came to know and love her work through her memoir The Underachieving Ovary (in brief, an account of the author's struggle with infertility and IVF), and I enjoyed her writing style so much that I sought out her other books. I was not disappointed. I am now convinced that JT Lawrence could write in almost any genre and produce excellent work that would, nonetheless, be immediately recognisable as JT Lawrence. She has a unique voice that comes through in everything she writes, regardless of the topic.

In How We Found You, she once again explores the futuristic but not-so-unlikely alternative reality that she set up in Why You Were Taken, and certain ethical questions that our ostensible evolution and development bring to the fore, through a suspenseful story that keeps you turning the pages, as befits the genre, and leads you nicely into the third installment. Which I will be reading as soon as it comes out.

This is a great follow up to Why you were taken and is set 4years after the first book. Kate is bringing up her twins Silver and Mally and far from being over her tortured past is now so over protective of them, and indeed we start this book where she can't find them but it turns out to be a false alarm. When Seth her partner has to go away on business Kate really doesn't want him to go but is this just her paranoia or is it a premonition, you will have to read to find out
I raced through this book with ease as the characters are well defined and you can't help but read 'just another chapter' until I realised I had finished the whole book.
A fabulous read and I can't wait for the next one.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review!
When I received this book to read I wasn't sure what to expect, but after reading a few of the comments people where saying about this book I just knew I had to read it for myself, to see if it was as good as people where saying it was, and the truth is this book surpassed everything I ever expected it to be. This book had me hooked from the first chapter and made me wonder what would happen next when I had to put it down. Making this one of the best thrillers I have read so far this year and I truly can't wait to read the first book and to see if there is a next book because I want to find out if mally will be able to live a normal life and if the family will have to fight again to keep mally alive. And I really hope that if there is a next book, that little mally will be able to survive and grow up. And that he will be able to get past all the trauma that he's had to endure along with his family!

This book's ending left me feeling like "WTF MUST I DO WITH THIS ENDING?!"

Apart from that this book was fantastic!
It is filled with action from the get-go which just gets you stuck in it and wanting to know more.

The picture that JT paints for our future is really chilling and easy to believe. Her writing is "perfect" like that because you sort of start to believe that what she writes can be actually happening.
It even had me in tears at some spots because I was so immersed in the story and characters.

This is one of my favourite series and definitely recommended to anyone who wants some action in their life.

This is the second book in the When Tomorrow Calls series and it was just as action packed and thrilling as the first book.

Even though I had my suspicions who the "evil genius" was earlier on in the book, by the time it came to the big reveal I had changed my mind about 20 times.

I am so please the Keke had a bigger story line in this book and really hope that her story gets bigger, she is a brilliant and well developed character and I would be happy just to read about her.

In Why You Were Taken, I really like Kirsten and thought she was a kickass woman, but in this book Kate irritated me, I found her weak and annoying. Saying that I get why Kate is the way she is, I just really hope that Kickass Kirsten comes back in the next book.

Really interesting futuristic dystopian kind of novel.

Would you sacrifice your son to save your daughter?

Hard not to give it all away but the ending...wow.

Real page turner with rollercoaster ups and downs. I hadn't read the first book of the series before, but I'll be going back and I've already added the next book to my wishlist!

Kate and Keke, Seth and his clever cronies are back, four years later, in Johannesburg. Now that twins Silver and Mally are creating havoc, as only four-year-olds can, it feels like a happy family living the happily-ever-after in modern, waterless Johannesburg, with healthy dinners delivered by drones, driverless cars, and bots to do the menial tasks.

Paradise in this concrete jungle? Except, well, when the kids go missing, they’re probably not playing, because there is a crazy cult that is out to get them. Or is that just a kink in Kate’s brain, tweaked from the pills she pops for her synaesthesia, PTSD, or general sense of paranoia.

Another one I've edited so I can't rate it. But seriously, guys, Lawrence writes an engaging story. It's sometimes difficult to keep up the pace when your first book has already covered so much ground, but she manages to bring in new elements, keep up the energy AND still deliver the thrills. Plus, she's a lovely author to work with from an editor's perspective. If you're looking for a smart South African SFF author to dig into, I can't recommend her enough.

Reviewed on behalf of http://bookaddict.live,
Each book in this series gets better and more exciting. We have all our protagonists back together for exciting slice of life in 2024.
Kate is having a hard time conquering her fear that the twins will be kidnapped. Seth has to go away for a job and makes sure Kate has a nanny to help and lots of security measures in place.
Keke is on jury duty and meets a handsome and charismatic man named Zac who helps with the unauthorised investigation into all the toddlers’ deaths.
That’s how we start, and anything that can wrong, does go wrong. As all our heroes try to cope with is happening, but come up against the fanatical Resurrentionists. As they realise all is lost until help from an unlikely source appears.
This is an addictive 6 star listen for me and I listened in one go. I was there will them all time crying one minute and smiling the next.Shoshina was magnificent bringing this glimpse into 2024 to live with her usual talent.

Browsing through my Goodreads Read Shelf, I came to realize that I haven't read a series back to back in years. Oh what bliss, what a thrill - how quickly can the next one be available Janita Lawrence?

How we found you starts about 4 years after Why You Were Taken ended. Kate (she doesn't go by Kirsten anymore) and her long-lost twin brother, Seth (he still answers to Seth), are reunited and share an apartment with Kate's two small children, Mally and Silver. Life and all its trimmings in the not-so-distant-future in South Africa, can be obtained with the click of a button.

"Consumption used to be the name of an illness. Was it TB? Something to do with breathing: gram by gram, a disease that slowly consumed you. Consumption is a different kind of sickness now."

Some old familiar faces like Keke and Marko brace us with their presence as well. Keke is still the ultimate sniffer-dog and some of the best parts of this book, were the court proceedings where Keke was on Jury Duty.

Somebody (come now Janita, I'm talking to you) should write a courtroom drama with holograms and Virtual Reality re-enactments and remote controlled jury-voting devices. During these procedures, we've met a new character, Zack. Hmmmmmm..... hard to explain this one. Think The Saint here. I have a lot of faith in him to become one of my favorite fictional heroes. But let's get back to our main character, Kate.

I like this Kate, she is a bit screwed-up, but hey - who wouldn't be after what she had to endure. As with Why you were taken, it is exactly this strong, realistic character portrayals that makes J.T. Lawrence a writing force to be reckoned with.

Kate should be thrilled to have two such beautiful children. I mean really, who wouldn't want to have a printed baby? So why is she so damn paranoid? Honey, trust your mommy-instincts. The Good Lord (although there isn't much evidence of any believe in the Supremacy here) gave you those instincts for a reason.
"Trust no one"
No one can be trusted, especially when it comes to your children. Kate's paranoia is rightfully justified when Marko and Keke uncovers that somebody is really trying to harm her children, especially Mally. As in Why you were taken, Kate turns into a fierce warrior queen who will stop at nothing to save her children.

How we found you is a fast paced sequel to an equally intriguing book and in my opinion (not that it counts for very much), it is even better. Maybe it's the endings of the two books. I remember when I finished Why you were taken, I thought the book could have ended a few pages "earlier". Just to leave you with a bit more anticipation. How we found you is more than making up for that. Talk about a cliffhanger.....

I received this book as an ARC from the lovely author and no, she did not have a gun against my head or a sword against my neck for a review.

FROZEN IN TERROR!!!
Oh man. Wow! If you want a fast paced, gripping terror, action packed, hard hitting read that grabs you from the start. Congratulations my friends you've found it. Yep! You got it. This bad boy right here will set you back upon your heels. Man, I'm still reeling. The characters are so realistic and believable that your sucked right in. No kidding. If you want to lose some stubborn belly fat, this read right here will work for you. No lie, I think I lost a couple of inches. Its definitely a work out. Keeping those stomach muscles tight isn't the only thing either. Talk about nailbiting, hair pulling, seated on a razor's edge, yeah that happens. J doesn't mess around or pull punches. This is one kickass read that captures your attention and holds it till the last word. I can't wait to read the next installment. Phenomenal job J. Thanks for sharing.

The gripping sequel to Why You Were Taken, Kate has been reunited with her twin and now has two kids of her own to look after. Unlike a lot of action-packed thrillers, in which the main character tends to be mostly unaffected other than toughening up, Kate instead goes off the rails with PTSD, exhaustion and overstimulation as a result of her synaesthesia (and the fact that a nutty cult is after her family).

I read this in the space of 24 hours while accompanying my kindergarten class and their families on a field trip. Understandably, the graphic violence against kids of this age was very disturbing and not for the faint of stomach - but this is to be expected from an author with as dark an imagination as JT Lawrence.

This gore-fest is not gratuitous (every sword has a point), and is nicely juxtaposed with social and political commentary in the form of Lawrence's imagined near-future South Africa, where the effects of our current events are played out in a butterfly-effect opera of consumerism, environmental consciousness, radioactive destruction, sexual liberation and social connectivity.

I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read the third book in October. Docking a star for such a blatant cliffhanger of an ending; it could have been a little more subtle, but that's a minor niggle.

I received an ARC from the author in return for an honest review.

Ah, sequels! You’ve got to be so damn careful. There’s nothing worse than picking up the second book or the second movie and having it spoil the original.

THAT IS NOT THE CASE HERE!

I loved Why You Were Taken, the first book in the series. The near-future world JT Lawrence created sucked me in. The technologies that are just on the other side of tomorrow. The characters: Kate with her synaesthesia (what’s the colour of pain and love?) and Seth the bio-hacker. The plot: genetic manipulation, secrets, abductions. Let it be known that I am a fan of the first book.

Then came the sequel and I can say, honestly, that I enjoyed it even more than the original. JT Lawrence continues building the world she created in the first novel but it happens organically and isn’t just bigger and flashier for the sake of a sequel. The characters have developed. Kate still has her synaesthesia but when the novel starts we find her fearful not only for her own life but even more so for her loved ones. A bit of PTSD after the events of the original novel, I’m sure. Seth finds a family and meets a fascinating new client.

And how can I forget Keke! I enjoyed her in the first book and could not get enough of her in the second. The near-future of court cases is fascinating. Sign me up immediately for jury duty when the virtual reality described here kicks in!

I really don’t want to say too much about the book because everything I want to rave about is a spoiler. We have new technologies, we have the offspring of the Genesis Project, we have cults chasing prophecies and we have the fascinating Surro Sisters. It’s really hard for me to not give anything away here but I am telling you now that if you loved the original you will adore the sequel. And if you never read the original stop reading reviews and pick it up.

JT Lawrence is a shining star rising quickly into my constellation of favourite authors. I cannot wait for the next one.

I read this author's book, The Underachieving Ovary, and absolutely loved it so when I heard that this book was out but was a completely different genre, I was intrigued and keen to give it a go.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I have to say. There was many a time when my finger hit a word on my Kindle so I could look it up, only to remember that this story is a work of fiction and the author had created this incredible world for us out of her imagination and therefore the word I was trying to look up didn't exist! (yet).

This book is a fast-paced tale set in the near future when, quite frankly, life is rather frightening in some ways and really amazing in others. Kate needs to keep her twins safe and she quickly learns that people she thought she could trust, she can't, and some she wasn't sure about as a source of support, she can. Such a complex tale and it had me at the edge of my seat so many times.

I was going to give this book 4.5 stars because the ending was a little abrupt and I was a bit frustrated by it, but this book is too good for me to mark it down like that, and the fact that there is clearly another book in the series is very exciting, so you are forgiven, Ms Lawrence! Btw, I didn't read the first book in the series (this one is number two) but it didn't matter, this book works fine as a standalone.

Highly recommended.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. Thank you to Fire Finch Press.

This book is even better than the first in the series, Why you were taken. It can also stand alone as just enough background information is provided for the reader to understand what is going on. I've already started the third book in the trilogy as this one ends with a cliffhanger, and the book was sitting on my shelf waiting. It's astonishing how real and credible the world created in the novel is- at the rate technology and AI is moving, six years might even get us there. Lawrence demonstrates an impressive understanding of developments in society, and technology, and her depiction of a near dystopic Joburg is eerily and frighteningly feasible. As we follow Kate and Seth and their desperate efforts to save their children, Silver and Mally, in a gripping, unputdownable narrative, we are swept away by their pain and desperation as they realise what they are up against. The female characters in particular are thoroughly believable and well-crafted and you cannot fail to empathise totally with Kate and with Keke, her best friend. The story picks up pace as it races towards the climax, and then you can take a deep breath as the scene is set for the next book. Riveting, gripping, and thoroughly satisfying.

Intense. Thrilling. Intriguing. Suspenseful.

You will find that once again When Tomorrow Calls you will be there to turn every single page to reach each new chapter. There are truths and lies behind all said and done. There's something to the things you thought you heard, thought you saw. Your imagination is not faulty. It really did happen.

The future. Not so far now is it? The reality of the things that are happening or have already taken place and you see what it would look like when it all comes to the forefront and just explodes to be reality. Kate finds that she's living in that world now. She finds that she will have to make the biggest sacrifice every known to a parent of more than one child. She finds that beneath all her paranoia and mental state she becomes a warrior for her children.

The writing will bring you in and keep you for every second of this battle this mother has to fight to keep her family. The characters are ripe, rich, and the world of future South Africa very relatable.

How we found you starts about four years after Why You Were Taken ended. Kate (formerly known as Kristen) and her long-lost twin brother, Seth share an apartment with Kate's two small children, Mally and Silver.
Keke is back and provides some of the best parts of the story. She's on jury duty and some of the technology they use would really come in handy in present day courtrooms.
Kate is not doing well. She's got 2 beautiful children but she's a mess. She's so paranoid about their safety. What could go wrong with such a wonderful nanny, one of the former Sisters? Hmmmm.
Trust no one, someone once told her and that is too true.
Marko and Keke uncover a plot to harm her children, especially Mally. As in Why you were taken, Kate turns into a fierce warrior who will stop at nothing to save her children.
This was an incredibly fast-paced read and I loved it. I've got at least one other book by this author that I want to read now. JT is now on my list of authors to watch for. I did receive this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review but I would have paid for this book, if necessary. Is there a book coming with KeKe as the main character? I hope so. I want more of KeKe.

A riveting sequel to Why You Were Taken, Kirsten and Seth are trying to give the "twins" the best shot they have at a normal life, but Kirsten's PTSD is severely hampering her coping skills and sending her synesthesia (yes, I learnt a new word) into overdrive. And now Kirsten's worst fear seems to be coming true, someone is trying kidnap her son. Can she save him and keep her daughter safe?

It's not often that a sequel is almost better than the first, but JT Lawrence's ability to bring colour into emotions and actions just totally made this book explode. The writing style is clever with it's new futuristic slang and the South African setting brings joy to my heart. There is plenty action, but not too much to make it unrealistic and the constant threat of what is going to happen next keeps those pages turning.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys page-turning intrigue and would like a little glimpse of what our future might hold for us all one day.

Kate used to be a photographer, now she is a mom. She is also living with her brother, with her twins since she was attacked. After almost being blown up while freelancing at the Echo news building. Kate suffers from PTSD, but won't admit it to anyone. Lately she has been having some serious weird dreams, more like nightmares. When she finally wakes up from a dream and has her gun pointing at Malley, it is time for some professional help. While on an outing with the twins, she losing Malley when there is a bomb scare. Silver tells her, where to find Malley and she just barely gets him back. Why is someone trying to take Malley? In the mean time, her brother is called to help build hearts for those that can't wait for the heart list. Seth, a friend of her's is almost killed trying to help them figure out who is after Malley. Can there be a happy ending in this book? This is a look into the future, that might not be too far away. Why are they after Malley? What lengths will they go to get him? Read the book to find out.

OUTSTANDING! I first came across this author on TBC Reviewer Requests on Facebook. I requested to read "How We Found You" then realised it had "Why You Were Taken" preceding it. I read that first and enjoyed a completely new genre (Futuristic Thriller) then immediately started book 2.... Oh Wow! This book is superb. Break neck action, nail bitingingly cringy. Heart in your mouth shock factor.
I cannot wait for book 3 in the series (out in October 2017) and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for it on Amazon as it's a book I HAVE to read.....

Well, I do declare! This is a very difficult review to write because my head is still spinning a full 360 degrees from reading How We Found You. I'd previously read book 1, which is unusual for me as my lunacy means I tend to read books series out of order, and that definitely made the second book even more fabulous. At this stage I'd like to nominate Ms Lawrence as the first Ruler of the World, (Queen JT - it's got a ring to it). Her brain is magnificent. I want a patch, a helix, an eyebot, a K9000 and one of those clever printer thingys! What vision, what imagination, it's breathtaking. Don't even get me started on the idea of giving Kate synthaesia, (how on earth do you spell it when it's not even in my Oxford English dictionary?), because if that's not genius, well then I don't know what is. The book sped by and all of a sudden I was finished and I was so sad. The whole thing is mind altering, so fast paced that you need to wear an oxygen mask to read it and absolutely BLOODY BRILLIANT. I urgently need book 3, but then it would be over for good and I'd be devastated. What a conundrum

This book is so very clever. What a world! The author has created a scarily real smart technology world which is not so very far away!
The sense of dread is real and the heroine is brilliant.
The reason it's not five stars is you MUST read the first one, its not a stand alone and I did feel that I was at a party where everyone knew each other and I didn't!

So my advice READ THEM ALL!!!!

In the beginning, I thought the book was going kinda slow, but it was just getting warmed up! So much action. So many twists and turns.

Who can you trust? The people who you think you can trust turn on you and the trusted come in the most unexpected places.

Some places in the book were very moving emotionally. And you could practically feel the emotions the characters were feeling churning in your gut.

And, who is this charming, mysterious and familiar stranger? Can't wait to find out in the next book!

I was given an ARC for an honest review. My opinions are truly my own.
