I received a copy of this set of books in exchange for an honest review. Great set to start reading A. R Winters’ “A Piece of Cake Cozy Mysteries”. We get to meet some of her great Characters like Mindy Mansfield one time tv crime show writer turned investigator, her best friend, assistant and online bakery owner Beth, Ethan Macaulay Police Detective and Mindy’s former boyfriend, to name but a few. Each book is another installment in the lives of the residents and visitors of Santa Verona intricately entwined to produce a continuing back story yet allowing each book the ability to be read as a stand alone novel. The set includes books 1 - 3. Book 1 - Dessert, Diamonds and Deadly Secrets. Mindy and her best friend are hired by an old friend to investigate the murder he has been accused of committing, the victim his grumpy old uncle. Mindy and Beth then set about gathering clues, questioning people around the victim, uncovering suspects and checking alibis. Why did the old man die? Did their old friend really kill his uncle? These questions and more are answered in the twisting plot. Book 2 - Carrot Cake and Cryptic Clues. Beth is the prime suspect in the death of socialite Celeste Rocheford, who died after eating a Carrot Walnut Cake. Was the death a simple accident or was there a sinister plot to murder the rich but unliked woman. Did Beth kill her with cake or was she unfairly framed? Mindy is determined to uncover the truth and clear her friends’ name. Mindy totally believes in Beth’s innocence but is she right? Despite being a suspect Beth stlll helps Mindy investigate and together they work the case to uncover the ugly truth. Book 3 - Danger, Deceit and Dark Chocolate Cake Vanessa is a singer in a 24 hour jazz bar, but instead of working she is in a coma lying in a hospital bed following a poisoning. Mindy and Beth are hired to find out who tried to kill Vanessa and why. In a plot full of twists and surprises the ladies investigate the crime as if the victim has been murdered. Along the way they stumble across secrets and apparent coverups, until finally everything becomes clearer and they can reveal the truth. These fast paced books are full of tension, intrigue and surprises beautifully written and full of descriptive details. The smoothness of the plot and continuing back story makes these books well worth reading.
Fun cozy mystery with two crime fighting friends that had moved back to their hometown and are now helping the police as crime sleuthing detectives. Mindy was a murder mystery screenwriter in Hollywood and Beth dropped out of the corporate life to become a baker. Lots of friend and family interactions that are more real life situations. In the first book they are hired to prove their old high school friend did not murder his uncle. In the second book they are trying to prove Beth did not kill Celeste the socialite that no one liked. In the third book, they are trying to determine who poisoned Vanessa the jazz singer. During each of these investigations they are getting closer to a couple of guys on the police force. Looking forward to reading more about their developing relationships. I voluntarily reviewed these books.
This book set contains the first three cozy mysteries featuring the cake baking crime solvers Mindy and Beth. They are taking on crime in Santa Verona one case at a time and are now solving homicide cases that the police department can't or won't!!
The stories are fun and keep you guessing, but the secondary characters are the best part for me. The relationships with the PD detectives Matt and Ethan, and the duos high school nemesis Neve!
You can see that there is a lot more fun to come in this series!

Mindy was a script writer in Hollywood. Now returned home. Beth was her best friend and, also, returned after a fast-paced career as a chemist. Neve is the popular cheerleader of their high school years, who tries to cut in on their investigations and make rude remarks about them. Beth bakes a sample cake for everyone she sells and Mindy helps eat them. They get involved in murders and are to curious to let the police handle them alone. Funny characters and well placed action make this series an enjoyable time with friends.
The books in this box set were the first I've read by this author and I really enjoyed them. The stories would be considered cozy mysteries. They are lighthearted and fun with humor throughout. I am looking forward to reading more by this author. *I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is my honest review.*
A great box set of cozy mysteries, I just loved Mindy & Beth as well as Mindy's Mum and especially her Aunty. Each book is a great wee murder or almost murder mystery with some great twists and surprises. I liked how we got to know Mindy and beth more and can't wait to see what they get up to next!
