Vampires have never been so hot... Million-bestselling author Bella Forrest returns with an all-new paranormal romance series!

One last adventure. That's all Riley wants before heading off to college and parting ways with her two best friends. Spending their last summer together on a Texas farm in the middle of nowhere isn't quite as exciting as they'd planned...

That is, until they stumble upon secrets no human should know.

Men who appear and disappear.

A giant wing hidden in the creek.

Screams in the dead of night.

Every oddity seems connected to their strange--and alarmingly attractive--new neighbors, led by the stormy-eyed Navan. For reasons she can't explain, Riley feels drawn to him and the story of his past.

But Navan has a monstrous side, one that grants him incredible powers that are not of this world...and ashen skin that feels like fire to the touch.

When events take a dangerous twist, Riley is determined to protect her friends at all costs, but as she unravels each thread of the mystery, she finds herself entangled in a supernatural conquest that is far bigger than Texas... and even Earth itself.

A mystery.
A romance.
And a journey that could change the fate of the human race.

Prepare for a unique spin on the lore you love - and an adventure that is as thrilling as it is unexpected.

Super underwhelmed with this. Nothing about it was interesting. Not the characters, the story, not the "coldbloods". The story was slow, Riley was annoying. I was hoping this would be good series from Bella, maybe something different from her other series. But it's not.

Good Start

I’m always impressed by this author. When I first saw the beautiful cover I was instantly was hooked. I wasn't impressed with the character Riley though because she seemed to be content with not minding her own business. I can’t wait to see where the next book journeys us.

I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something different to read.

This book was definitely iffy for me. There were some parts that were boring and others that grabbed my attention. Hotbloods starts off with a group of friends who want to go on a last hoorah before their next step in life. From there you sort of start to like Riley, Lauren, and Angie; however, for me it just didn't last.

I feel like I was on endless up and down roller coaster and I couldn't decided if I actually liked them all or thought that they were completely annoying. After meeting the girls, you finally meet the mysterious "lumberjacks" and I think out of all of them I like Navan the most - but I can't be 100% certain at this point.

Riley was an okay kind of MC but she was kind of annoying to me. I really hope that she magically becomes more likable to me in the second book because I'm committed to finish this series out.

There were some cute, funny, and weird scenes. For example, the one where Navan is introduced to her parents. I can't really say it seems like one thing because I had so many feelings/emotions while reading that scene.

Then there's the ending and of course you know the main characters are going to do something stupid like take this stupid ass deal. Spoiler alert: they do. AND OF COURSE I GET THE CLIFFHANGER OF HELL. I need to know more about these god damn cold bloods. I already have a feeling that the second book will be better. Like WAYY better.

I'm pumped for book two guys.

This review MAY contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

This book is good, but it didn't blow my mind. I think that I went into this book with higher expectations than I should have. I read many positive reviews and saw that the overall rating for the book was high so I didn't think much past that before beginning this book. This is the first book that I have read by this author. While I found the book entertaining, I also found it frustrating at times. So it pretty much had an equal amount of good and bad for me.

One pattern that I saw in the book that I didn't care for was info dumping. There is too much telling the history of things in big chunks instead of letting things come up gradually. It felt like too much at once every time an info dump occurred. The writing style is very fluid and easy to follow for the most part. It didn't feel amateur by any means, but neither did it feel overly accomplished. It felt comfortable. Some of the language and dialogue felt a little too stiff, but nothing cringe-worthy.

I felt that the plot could have used some work. At least in the believability of it. Riley and her friends were all too eager to accept what Navan and his comrades were, and even more ready to fly off in Navan's arms without any hesitation. There was too much trust without any reason for it. And Riley declared that she felt safe with Navan, which seemed unconvincing since she didn't know him from jack and he didn't really give her any reason to feel that way. She came off as very naive. The whole trust aspect is not convincing at all. Trust usually has to be earned, not given freely. Most people wouldn't put their trust in someone without hesitation, especially when that someone revealed that they were not even human. The plot did have some good points too. I liked the premise of the story and the plot points were strung together pretty well. I just think that the human characters accepted things way too easily in the beginning to make the setup of the story believable.

The characters were really dull and fell flat for me. Especially at the beginning. Navan was like a robot showing no emotion or personality. He eventually shows a little promise, but I was hoping for more. Riley could be annoying at time and she was excessively naive. I didn't feel like either main character had much development. They felt one-dimensional. I really think that the story could have been epic if they had been developed more thoroughly and if they showed more emotion. It could just be that the writing didn't portray them with enough emotion.

I felt that the romance wasn't entirely convincing either. There was some attraction there but the romance almost felt forced. This is a fast-paced story so that may be why the romance felt too sudden. Even though there isn't any romance until the last chapter of the book and it is quite brief. I felt that they needed to share more moments together to develop romantic feelings towards each other. It didn't feel like the time that they had spent together really justified it. I am rooting for them though. I hope that the romance gets better in the next book.

Overall, I enjoyed this story but I felt that some of the execution could have been better. There were many things that didn't click with me while reading this, though it was entertaining enough. It did hold my interest enough that I want to continue with the next book. I think that the story has promise even if some of the development didn't come across as top notch. This was a quick read and I would recommend this book because the premise is interesting enough and the writing is decent.

Not good

I have no idea what this book was about. They're cold-blooded hot bloods? They're in Texas, no Alaska, wait New York, wait Wisconsin. I don't know how or why. There's a strange relationship between these two that I also don't understand. Hard to follow. Lots of excess description and thought. I tried to skim through to the end but just couldn't finish.

Ok, I have a feeling they put A LOT of money into advertising this book. The only reason why I downloaded it was because it came up on my Facebook, and then continuously came up on my browsing searches on amazon.

Where do I start, well I suggest you take a seat!

The book wasn’t ‘bad’, if I’m honest. Just HIGHLY frustrating at times. It started off good, with good pacing, decent characters and good description. But, then it went all over the place. The MC meets the hot bloods and so much happens in the space of a few days that just seems ridiculous. They also come up with the most STUPID idea to catch the attention of a specific group that they want help from.

Then they end up going on a mission FOR said group, just to gain their trust. I mean if this group is really that suspicious of them would they hand them all these weapons, armour and technology? It just didn’t seem logical to me.

Also, I’m not really feeling the connection between them both. It’s like one silly idea after the next. One stupid decision after the other.

Also the randomness of things! When her birth parents come back into her life. I thought there would be some BIG reason that’s related to her, you know a big reveal. When they tell her why I was like SERIOUSLY the author couldn’t think of something better after all of the background work banging on about her real parents, raising our suspicions.

I know it’s a fiction book, an urban fantasy fiction book at that. But, I still think it should be written in a way that you think it’s believable.

The 2 stars is for the premise and what the book could have been. Very interesting take on vampires etc, and I was intrigued by a softer main male character. But, it’s a NO from me overall.

3.5/5 stars.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE BOOK:
I read Hotbloods in one sitting via my Kindle, and loved it! The beginning was a bit slow, as I find many fantasy novels are (mainly because we know the mysterious people aren't human! Gasp!). It oddly reminded me of Ruby Dixon's space universe. This was more centred on vampires, though.

CHARACTERS/DYNAMICS:
I like that Riley had two other best friends, and I also didn't mind that they disappear and shack up with the other two Hotbloods.

The love dynamic was really good and perfect for anybody who enjoys a cliche love-affair, like me!

PLOT:
The plot was surprisingly layered and I thoroughly enjoyed the world built by Bella Forrest. The supernatural creatures are unique and refreshing, and the political clashes are excellent!

THE ENDING:
I will continue on, purely because I enjoy the world so much. The "cliffhanger" didn't really hook me, but that's okay. I'm here for the characters and the romance basically. :) (: :) (: :)

I wasn't overly keen it was ok, it was the overused girl falls in love with vamp who are against weres/shifters although in this scenario all these paranormal's come from outer space.

I didn't feel the chemistry between the two MC's, its more like how i would act like with my girlfriends, the only endearing quality i found with the male MC was his innocence to humanity.

It felt a bit like a bad version of twilight, the writing style was good but the story was Meh......

At one Point male MC states not to worry and he sense if he will sense if he is being followed even though the first part of the book the MC sensed sod all whilst he was being followed over continents... some holes it was ok i wont be carrying on with series though.

This was an Ok new book in a new series. I really didn't need to start a new series at this point because I am already reading too many incomplete series. And actually I think I've found a common flaw I have with this author and new series. I don't ever feel really gripped by her books on the first reading but then I reread them and I love them.

The main characters are Riley and Navan, but for me for a first book in the series the romance between these two characters was just too forced. I'm sure after I've reread it it will be totally swoonworthy and Navan will be one of my many book boyfriends or something but for the minute it was just a bot meh.

There are some secondary characters but none I found particularly noteworthy on first reading.

The storyline was OK but it did feel a bit forced. And the pacing was good. I will be rereading this book again sometime soon but I'm not sure when.

3 stars an OK read

Oh, boy. What to say about this one? If you've read my recent reviews, you know I'm in the middle of a Librarians' Reading Challenge at the library where I work. We're spending a month familiarizing ourselves with juvenile and young adult books, in part to help us when we are asked to provide readers' advisory for readers of those levels of books. So far, I've had a mixed bag of results -- some I've liked, some I haven't, and I probably haven't come close to LOVING any of them.

I grabbed this one (which I didn't really like) because my library branch has a bunch of Bella Forrest books on the shelf, despite her not seeming to be a real person. I mean, who writes 20 books per year for more than a decade, but doesn't even have a Wikipedia page? So I thought I'd read one of "her" books to see if I could figure out whether she's a committee of authors, or whether the job had been taken over by AI, or what. And I still really don't know.

For the most part, the book is pretty laughable. I guess it appeals (or appealed, anyway -- I don't see a lot of people checking these books out anymore) to a certain segment of readers. The plot seems aimed squarely at adolescents and teens: lots of action, plenty of sexy talk with not much progress (kind of an "I know about sex but don't really KNOW about it" idea), and not much in the way of thematic challenge.

In fact, sometimes it seemed like the book was written by a 14-year-old with a thesaurus. Why say "they stopped talking" when you can instead say that "silence engulfed them"? And who else would write purple prose like this? "His eyes finished their wandering and returned to me, imbued with concentration." "All I was aware of was my emotions as I spoke, which began to vacillate like a pendulum." "Sleep somehow swooped in, enveloping my soul and dimming my senses."

Other times, the idioms just rang false. Early in the book there's a reference to "skinning" ears of corn for cooking, or during a race one of the participants shouts that the last one there will be a "roach dropping." In one scene three teenage girls are "racing around" a small room, looking for some means to escape, and I couldn't help but picture Keystone Kops running into each other, slapstick-style, as they race around such a confined space. Elsewhere, the protagonist is carried by her love interest for all of 10 feet (it actually says that) and she's glad that the silence during this very brief carry isn't "awkward."

Add to that the fact that we started out with three teenage girls who had ZERO characterization. I couldn't say what they looked like, what their personalities were like -- there wasn't even a cheerleader, wallflower, good student, that kind of shortcut characterization. Soon, though, one of the girls, the narrator, emerges as the lone female, paired up with what turns out to be the lone male from the original group of males they meet. So at least then it was easier to keep them straight.

The book ended on a cliffhanger, but I won't be reading any of the other seven in the "Hotbloods" series. I've seen and read enough, and will move on to other books that are more my speed.

Friends Riley, Angie and Lauren are spending one last summer together before college/jobs split them apart. They are working on a farm in the middle of nowhere in Texas when they meet some gorgeous "lumberjack" looking guys working on an adjacent property. These strong silent types turn out to be hiding a big secret - they aren't human. The girls become reluctant friends of these strangers. Riley and the leader of the guys, Navan, embark on a mission to save Earth from his kind. During their journey, Riley and Navan get to know each other better.

I have to agree with some other reviewers on this one - it started out good, but just when the action got going, it deteriorated. It felt like an author's first book - in trying to pick up the pace to make the action more exciting, more problems were thrown at the characters in a short amount of time not allowing for any resolution of the prior challenge. The result was a feeling that the characters were just being thrown around the globe without any true purpose, and worse -

I really hope the next book in the series is better. I had high hopes and they were squashed like a grape.

Boo, this book was horrible.

These vampire/alien crossbreeds and the weird coldbloods and shifters just didn't hold my interest at all. The main character guy Navan was supposed to be a lust worthy book boyfriend but I just never felt any attraction for him.

The main character Riley was so SO annoying. Their relationship felt forced and unbelievable and I couldn't wait to get to the end. There were very few plot twists and no jaw dropping moments and I ultimately couldn't get through it fast enough. The attempt at a cliffhanger at the end was just not extreme enough for me and I don't care to read on any further.

Wow! The journey from the start of the story to the end is extraordinary. I never even contemplated the direction this story would take. Neven and Riley are a brilliant couple. I love that Riley’s tough, smart and loyal. Neven is a classic hotty looking for redemption. Can’t wait to see where this series goes next.

I have read other books by this author so I was interested to see what this series would be like. It was a bit slow for me and while these beings were supposedly superior the three girls just stumbled on them after hearing noises. Surely they could have taken steps to remain hidden as they had been hiding from the human race forever without being detected. The story sometimes felt forced rather than just progressing at it's own pace.

I kept getting flashbacks of another series "Keira Hudson by Tim O'Rourke" which had Vampyrus that looked like the "Coldbloods" in this story and had a few similarities such as the Lycans and their love hate relationship with the Vampyrus.

Apart from that I found it difficult to immerse myself in the story compared to her other vampire books as I did not feel the chemistry with Navan and Riley. The two other girls who were all best friends faded into the background as well as the other hot supernatural guys with them. I think the story would have been more interesting to me if the whole group were involved in the adventure rather than relying on the two main characters to carry the story.

I agree with another review that there was no real world building so I did not care about the two Queens or the outcome of the battle as the history of the Coldbloods was glossed over. Navan did not describe what his world looked like or even where it was let alone the customs or a description of his life there in any great detail. Things may change in the second book and I will give it a try to to see where it goes.

Had to stop after 30% The story was absolutely ridiculous. So, we have these three city girls who are on vacation in this secluded house with no form of communication with the outside world. They see snakes and all sorts of insects. They’re sleeping in this moldy room. They don’t have enough water so they take their baths at the lake where they found a giant bat wing. Well.. I don’t know but if that were me, I would’ve been so scared and would immediately get out of the water and leave that place asap. Well, these three? They were so curious that they caressed the wing. 🙄They carried it to their house. Not a normal human reaction but fine.. I let that slide. Moving on.. they were now sleeping in this tree house when they suddenly heard this scream. There were snakes everywhere, it was pitch black, not to mention the bat wing that was stolen from them by an unknown man, but guess what??!?? They said, let’s check it out, we have our flashlights and it’s only a ten minute walk anyway.. maybe someone needs our help. 😳😳😳 Uhmm.. WHAAAAT??? I don’t even want to comment on the stupidity of the entire situation. But still, I freaking continued. They arrived at the house where they discovered that the men they saw earlier were not exactly humans. Instead of fearing for their lives, the h was so annoying and the things she said were just so RIDICULOUS. This entire book is absurd and after the 30% mark I’ve just had enough.

Don't know what mood i was in when i first read this but damn on this re-read i absolutely loved it. A great action packed fast moving plot, good chemistry between the two lead characters, a interesting twist on vampire lore and a nice plot shock at the end.

Few things to point that were not that believable were the coldbloods flying around in plain sight surely someone would have spotted them, Navan leaving his brothers in the care of humans he has just met was a big point as he is made out to be the protector and this felt a bit odd for his character and the whole meet the parents scenes were just painful.

Shall continue with the re-read of this series and i may even finish it this time.

-----------------------------------------------

I did enjoy this book but there was just too many discrepancies and plot holes for me to truly love it. The ending also made no sense it's like we go from one scenario to another without anything really being resolved.
Still might read the second book as It is short but was not very satisfied with this one.

This book was a bit of a mixed bag for me. The beginning of the book seemed like a bit of a hot mess and like the author was trying to squash as many supernatural tropes in as possible in an attempt to come up with something unique - vampires, Aliens, werewolves and spaceships. I struggled with the first few chapters as the main characters annoyed me and the plot seemed extremely contrived.

As thebook went on however, the author seemed to find her rhythm and it got a little better and I found myself more interested in seeing where the story went. The story itself still seemed quite contrived and you could occasionally see the hand of the author moving her chess pieces.

In the end, i didn't end up hating it like I thought i would but instead found it interesting enough though not interesting enough to continue on with the series.
