Active Goodness: The True Story of How Trevor Chadwick, Doreen Warriner & Nicholas Winton Saved Thousands From The Nazis

Rate this book
Active Goodness is the remarkable true story of how three British heroes saved thousands of endangered Czech men, women, and children from the Nazis at the beginning of World War II.
When university lecturer Doreen Warriner visited Prague in the winter 1938, she was appalled at the sight of so many suffering people, all desperately trying to flee Hitler's death squads.
Along with others including Trevor Chadwick, Nicholas Winton, they organised the evacuation of over 7,000 people in under ten months, putting themselves in huge personal danger.
This is their story.

Oh My God this book was… I really don't know how to classify it. This is a true story and it is one hell of a story. The book is extremely well written and so full of knowledge. I learned a lot of things I had no clue about. Terrible things made me stop and ponder what the hell was Hitler thinking? Like for instance he was a Jacobite they were persecuted for their religion. Being persecuted for his religion oh, you would think that he would know what it felt like to the Jewish people. How much of a hypocrite can one man be? Ultimately this book is about three people and he clears up a misconception. This is the remarkable story of Sir Nicholas Winston and how he saved so many. Who for years was praised for doing it all alone. Even though he was the first to Say he had help from others. These others were Dr Doreen Warriner and Trevor Chadwick. What these three accomplish was something truly amazing. And they certainly deserve the praise. I love the fact that the reason we remember Sir Winston more is that he lives longer than the rest I was truly shocked to find out he was 106 years old when he passed. They were able to save so many children I just wish we could have saved them all. I was so sad to see how many died. You need to read this book. It is so full of knowledge that everyone should know.
I normally would say I hope you enjoy this book as much as I do. I don't know that I enjoyed it but it was certainly informative they had me rereading several things I just to learn more. I even passed the book on to my child who's on my account. As I feel this is something he needed to know.

Active Goodness: The True Story of How Trevor Chadwick, Doreen Warriner & Nicholas Winton Saved Thousands From The Nazis written by by Edward Abel Smith is the amazing true story of how three British people saved men, women and children from the Nazis. The story starts off with trains of children heading to England and the stark reality that many of those children not on the trains would parish at the hands of the Nazis. The reader is then introduced to the one who got most of the praise for saving so many, Nicholas Winton, but he admits that it was not his sole doing and that Trevor Chadwick and Doreen Warriner played huge roles in the efforts to aid those who needed it. All three are very different in personalities and skills and all work together and help out. This story is very well written and is a definite must read for those who love historical writings. The author takes the reader on a journey with these three unsung heroes and their efforts to save thousands. Great read, I highly recommend!

This is well worth reading for the depth it provides to Sir Nicholas Winton's story - rescue efforts of such magnitude take many people to carry off with any degree of success, and this book attempts to fill in some of those gaps (as indeed Sir Nicholas did, as he knew he shouldn't have sole credit). However, the staggeringly sloppy writing & editing of this book are quite jarring; nothing would make me believe that anyone, including the author, ever bothered to proof read the thing. I'm glad I read it, and I'd even recommend it, but I hope the author will be more careful in his next.

A great, touching, heroic true story of heroes who risked their lives to save the life of thousands from the Nazis during World War II. Well, there are books like this, but the way the author has described events truly shows the amount of effort and research done, that’s what is unique and keep the reader engaged. It’s motivational and education at the same time. A great prediction of people suffering during the Nazis regime and how the heroic effort of few changed the life’s of many forever.
