Great world building and an exciting story-telling, but there are few things that stopped me from rating this book higher:
• Dynamics between Sky and her step father – he may have been an abusive, drunken sod, but SHE was not a helpless teen
• The Outcast character/ storyline – I am still trying to decide whether I found this plot line credible
• The Raven rationale and what I call a big reveal – now, that one I really found hard to accept and least convincing.
• And finally (no pun intended) the epilogue – so much was squeezed in to a short chapter that I immediately went: “Hold on, when did that happened, what happened, how???” too many questions left unanswered.

DNF'ed at 11 percent.

What in the world happened, Karpov Kinrade??? How did it come to this? I've enjoyed all of your other books to date, so I wasn't anticipating how much I just couldn't like this. In fact, I DNF'ed just to save my Kindle from the bodily harm I was about to inflict by throwing it across the room at yet one more stupid thing the MC was doing.

Skye Knightly (really?) is a 24 year old idiot. She lives with her step father, who physically abuses her. She has zero reason to continue to do so, or to continue to allow her step father to physically abuse her younger siblings, and put them in physical danger. Her reasoning is weak, especially since her big, strong, brave, awesome, gay best male friend lives with them and he just lets it all go on as well. I just couldn't get on board with all of that, especially after she commands her step father to get out and he does what she tells him to, or when he is a drunken, weeping mess on the kitchen floor because he (like every other adult character in this book) is an idiot who probably can't hit the toilet so how in the world does he continue to land a fist in her face?

That's about all I got out of the book.

Now here is the real kicker; how many of these reviewers that left such rave reviews actually read the book? Several refer to Kara as Skye's "daughter," which would totally make sense if all you did was watch the book trailer linked in the beginning description here on GR. It absolutely makes it sound like Kara is Skye's daughter. However, if you read the description for the book, or the first few pages, it makes it abundantly clear that Kara is Skye's little sister. Just because she raises her doesn't mean Kara is her daughter. Furthermore, one review didn't even get the MC's name right. So I'm not entirely certain what in the world is going on here, but I was incredibly disappointed all the way around.

Two stars, though, because there is still beautiful prose in this book - Karpov Kinrade can do a heck of a job giving you fantastic descriptions. I just wish it was enough to carry me through the book, but no dice.

Absolutely love it. Captures your imagination. It is very well written and pulls you into the story to the point you feel like your actually there and part of it. Pulls so many emotions from you as so much happens to Scarlett. Was not able to stop reading till I finished and then wanted more. Going to read it again slowly this time as I am not ready to leave her yet.

I always love books by this author, but…. Sadly there is a BUT. When in the start plot seemed to drag along, in the end it was rushed and not enough chapters were given for the main events. It was like boom and all done. Sky and Kaden relationship felt fake and dragged out and without any logical basis. The end felt like a cliffhanger, but not in the right place. It was a good book, I truly enjoyed it, but the holes in the plot were plenty. Mistakes in wording quite a lot. Too many characters not enough background and bonding. World building still is pro tho. Liked but not loved this one.

I have loved Karpov Kinrade until mid in Vampire girl series where it felt like there where to much other things going on and they rushed the series. The same thing is here. There is a nice world but more than that, it is nothing. The feeling in the book is rushed. nothing is compelete and it is like they desperatly need to put something out that isnt very well worked with. Just like the last VG book it is rushed and badly wroten. I really hoped for a great book but it isnt. The cover is very nice but beside that the book dont have much to give.

The characters are very boring and nothing you can relate to, they annoys you and it also made it impossible for me to finish reading the book. I got bored over the stupid characters that is one dimentional, and the rushed story. Yes the world is very nice build but there isnt more in the book than that. The book feels unfinished. Like there is to much going on the authors lives, to many wills, to many things and projects at the same time that nothing gets done peoplerly, like with VG and now with this.

I really wanted to like this but it was a mess at times. Like it either needed to be a series with multiple books or something else. There were times where I had to be like "wait, what?!" because there was too much info thrown in somewhere or just too much going on.

I only made it 20% of the way through this book. I really liked the main character, but it went downhill fast, and she embraced her alternate self without ever questioning it. It was no longer even a little believeable after that, so I had to just stop.

This book is about Skye Knightly, whose daughter is stolen away by the mysterious and dangerous Pike. Skye learns that she is something called a Twin Spirit, a person who can use their spirit to attack and defend others. She goes with the person who told her, Kaden, into a new world to learn how to control her powers and ultimately rescue her daughter Kara.

I read Vampire Girl, and I liked it, but this book i just completely loved. Skye is such a compassionate character who's drive makes her want to protect those around her. I love that this book is a standalone. You will get the whole story! The ending has the possibility for more books, but really it does so well on it's own. A great fantasy book!

Amazing story. The characters were likeable, and believable even with their amazing powers. Sky is a firefighter who takes care of her siblings, her drunken father being little help.She feeds , baths, clothes,and cares for them. She also endures the abuse from her stepfather, but eventually fights back.
Then a man named Pike shows up demanding her stepdad pay what's owed him, and takes her baby sister whom she considers her daughter, since their mother died at birth. She tries to fight Pike but he has powers. A mystery man shows up named Kaden , he tries to help her save the child, but Pike escapes. Together they must pursue the kidnapper, but first Sky must go to another world and train to fight. She fears for her sister's life, she knows when she disappears after her sister's kidnapping, people and police will think she did the crime. She knows this mystery man may be her only hope to find and rescue her sister/daughter.Leaving her siblings in the capable hands of her best friend she flees with this stranger, her only hope.
I wanted to add, this story shows great imagination, the powers of the Dragons and their twin spirits, the shifting, it was unlike anything I had read before. This book has me wanting to read anything this author has or will write.
I am always on the look out for the next great writer, I found one in this author.

Dreams and Dragons

KK has delivered yet again an amazing, fun-filled, life quite inspiring novel! This novel has it all from the action to the twisting plot, the feels to the reader yelling at the characters with encouragement. After reading JO's Vampire Girl saga, thinking it could never be out done and here I am, happily eating my words. I recommend this novel to all readers who like a strong, female lead, a plot that keeps you on your toes, and dreams of being or owning a dragon. Thank you KK for giving your loyal fans and the reading world your books and worlds.

Why did I even read this?

The story was disjointed. The characters had no development and hardly any personality. The romance was beyond lacking and in general I had a hard time following the story. The summary was interesting but the storyline was just not good.

The book "Of Dreams and Dragons" by Karpov Kinrade started out very interesting. But couldn't hold up the quality in the end and had too many parallels to "The Nightfall Chronicles" when it comes to the writing and female character traits in my opinion.

In the beginning the writing and the plot are more fluent and coherent. Which is a great improvement after "The Nightfall Chronicles" but in the second part of the book it seems the authors slipped back into old habits.
The plot jumps around again and single plot threads are not satisfactorily closed or woven into the continuing storyline. Leaving me hanging with a lot unanswered questions, left out details, weakening the heroine and my interest in the story.

Again there is love for detail in certain aspects and lack of it in others.
For example: Vane knew about her, what she is, even before she herself knew. Instead of asking "How?" by his revelation. She asks "How long?" Silly in my book. Hey but everyone is different. Then he warns her to keep it hidden and of possible enemies. Still, how can she keep it hidden, without knowing how it is spotted in the first place? He doesn't say, she doesn't ask. And again the plot continues without any conclusion, clue or satisfied situation and onto the next thread. The same happens a lot over the book with other matters and situations. Like how time is different in the ninth world and how it could affect her family on Gai/Earth positively or negatively? Or that the dragons acted coordinated and conscious, how that affects other ashknights in their work and safety? How that is even possible? Then for example, no one even tries to get information about Enzo. And what happens to him or how they can maybe try to help him, keep track on him even secretive. Just a simple we cannot help "Boom" and onto the next thread in the plot and the story continues. Enzo forgotten or maybe only a mere thought of grief once in a while. None is concluded, or mentioned anymore. For some we get answers later on, for some not. Still those small, let's call them inconsistencies, have a great impact on the leading character and her perception by me as a reader. She is strong and intelligent but doesn't ask the right questions. She is compassionate and loyal to her loved ones, but once Enzo is gone, she does nothing along that line. They are warriors, noticing a distinct behaviour of the enemy but do not investigate or mention it later on anymore. And many more examples...
The same pattern happened a lot as well in the books "The Nightfall Chronicles" which annoyed me as fuck. And why i downrated it to a 3 star read.
There is so many stuff not thought through till the end. Great ideas, great creativity, perfect starting points but lack in the finishing details. Sometimes it is used to aid the storyline but for an intelligent reader it is tough to ignore it while into the story. And to further along the plot twist and turns by lack of initiative and even asking the simplest of a question by the leading character is not a good writing style. And weakens the main character. If the heroine tried and fought, asked and sought after the knowledge but plausible not found it, that is a different story but that is not what happens here.
The protagonist lacks information at all times. And is not even slightly ambitious to change that. The first time i would have discovered what i am i would have seeked knowledge about it. What am i? What can i do? What can't i do? How do other people see what i am, so i can better protect myself? Sigh, even Kaden knew what she was, still no interest in knowing how? Common sense.
The same occurs again in "The Nightfall Chronicles" the heroine also has less ambitions to seek out the knowledge of what she is, her potential and her weaknesses. Sure it is all revealed partly in true time but only by occasion, to aid the plot and not a direct initiative of the heroines in both books.

And another parallel to "The Nightfall Chronicles". Both heroines where lied to by loved ones, betrayed. And yeah lets be mad in my head for a second, but forgive in instant later in a dialogue. I am sorry but the world and especially the people in it. Do not act like that. Trust has to be earned and not forgiven freely like a brainless woman. Both heroines seem to own this trait in spades. They have one or two self-worthy thoughts about the hurt and mistreatment in their heads. But never act on it. They get an apology "Sorry, my hands were tied" Or "Sorry, oath and other responsibilities", and puff all is forgotten. I have never encountered human behaviour like that in all my life. Forgiven yes, forgotten not that easily without the other persons initiative to regain trust and mend the wounds caused by lies and betrayal. And we are not talking about "I didn't eat your candies" kind of lie.

Sadly with all that said, with an interesting magical world, an intriguing concept and great potential from whom i expected more, i can again also only rate this as a 3 star book.

Another Winner by Karpov & Kinrade

This is the story of Sky, a firefighter, who lost her Mother during the birth of her last half-sibling, Kara, who she has raised as her own baby, while mothering the two young boys her mother left behind as well, because their father is a useless alcoholic. If it wasn't for Sky, the county would have removed the kids from the home long ago!
To help make ends meet, her best friend and one of the paramedics from the station, lives with them and helps with rent and other bills. The kids' father doesn't pay for a thing, he just makes a mess, yells at everyone, threatens to kick her out every other day, and stumbles in drunk whenever he does show up.
When a strange man comes to the door asking for the kids' father, saying he owes him a debt, and that he intends to collect, it scares Sky, but she has no idea how bad things can get.
The next day, he asks for him again, and when she tells him honestly that she really doesn't know where he is. He threatens her. She calls the police. But then realizes when she gives a description, the officer doesn't record it correctly. Then she finds their cat, killed in the front porch. Things go from bad to worse when she finds out her step-dad basically sold his baby girl to pay a gambling debt! She's outraged and then panicked when she realizes this isn't a joke, and this freaky guy is going to steal her baby, the baby she's loved and cared for since birth, her infant sister, Kara!
He comes for her, and she fights him, but she loses, even with help from a guy from another world who is after the same guy!
There's nothing else that Sky can do but to beg this guy, Kaden, to take her with him, to his world, so she can search for Pike, the guy who took her baby. But the only way he agrees is if she agrees to go into training to become an Ashknight, so she will know how to defend herself the right way. Because you see, Sky has some secret powers, her Mother made her wear a leather band on her wrist to cover up, her identity to those who would recognize her power, and to keep it in check. But when she was trying to fight against Pike, she accidentally hurt her little brother, burning him. So she knows she has no choice but to leave, to find Kara, but also, to keep the boys safe. Leaving them in the care of her best friend, she follows Kaden into the unknown.

This book came as a fairly easy read to me. I enjoyed the story, and connected with the MC. Though, as many reviewers have pointed out, there were just eome things I couldn't get past, hence my 4 star review. (I even struggled to give 4 stars over 3 if we are being honest)

First and foremost, before any spoilers: The editing. It is the same in nearly every book I have read from K&K. It is actually quite disappointing. The word 'loose' instead of 'lose', 'tee' instead of 'tea' etc. It made me want to pull my hair out. Be prepared!

Now:
This book is pretty inconsistent, and in my opinion they never should have brought Fenris Vane into the story at all. They treat him as if he is a twin spirit, but he is not. And it's almost as if he is there under punishment, but give no explanation. Just that he's there "Voluntarily" for years away from his family just for kicks? Even a paragraph or two explaining the crossover would have sufficed really. That experience alone left me shaking my head afterward.

I thoroughly enjoyed the middle of the story. I stayed up all night reading and couldn't put the book down once I got into the thick of it. I was truly hooked, that was.. Until the final chapters.

That's when things started going downhill, fast. Instead of leaving things open for the promise of a sequel and leaving room to explore and explain and finalize certain plot lines, K&K rushed everything and jammed as much as they could into the epilogue. I had to re-read it a few times over, and I still feel like I don't know what happened. It's almost as if you watched a movie that you really grew to enjoy and then the ending was in fast-forward and there was no way to slow it down.

I was drawn to this book because of meeting Sky in the Vampire Girl Series, and I'm just not sure where the connection actually meets. I feel like K&K are on the cusp of something great, they just need to flesh it out and fill the gaps.

Overall, I did really enjoy the book. Really hoping a sequel is in the future!

Sooooooo good! Why is this book so unknown? It has a perfect world building, the characters are amazing! No drama and very mature and this book has soooooo many good twists.... I often find twists in books predictable but this book... it shook me so many times. I loved it!

They are however two things that could have been done better. Number one is the building of Sky and Karden’s relationship. When they first kiss they have known each other for a few weeks and Sky says their chemistry has been building up. Maybe in the heads of the writers... but it was not written down. I looked back, but I found no romance chemistry. Most of the time they were traveling and they usually didn’t speak. I was a bit shocked when a week later they get to the Cliff, have to go separate ways and they practically declare their love to each other and say they want a life together... a bit fast I think. This does not mean I didn’t ship them. I do, a lot! They are perfect together. Thank god they get to know each other better, they keep loving and trusting each other’s even after mayor revelations. I love them, just the beginning of their relationship felt a bit rushed.

The second and last “problematic” thing of this great book was the epilogue. Again... I loved it but it opens so many question which were left unanswered. I love we get to see how they are doing twenty years later, how they have created their own family, visited the old ones... but then they leave them behind for a new adventure/quest... as if this book was the first in a serie. Without the new adventure it would have been the perfect ending. Now I just want to know what happens after. Did they find what they were looking for? Where was it? How was the reunion? How will they integrate it into the new society they created? Just soooo many questions? I wish they would make it a duology of many give us a novel where they answer this question.

All in all... an amazing read. I highly recommend it!

Sky Knightly is just a young girl/woman who lost her mom a couple of years ago during childbirth. Sky has been taking care of her little sister Kara that was born on that eventful night as well as her two brothers Caleb and Kyle. Sky considers them her children. She takes care of them like they were her own. She works as a firefighter with her best friend Blake, he helps her with the children and she just barely scrapes by from one pay check to the next.

Sky loves the children very much so when Kara is taken away from her she will do whatever she must to get her back even if that means leaving with a stranger that claims he can help her. Sky must leave her home and the children to go to another world to train to be an Ashlord so that one day she can hopefully find her sister and baby Kara. You don’t have to give birth to be a mother.

Of Dreams And Dragons is filled with lots of action. Sky may not be a fighter yet but she can hold her own and will not back down and go running off leaving a friend hanging. For someone with no training she does pretty well in a fight. Besides she does have her magic or powers.

I have read most of if not all of Karpov Kinrade’s novels and loved them all so when I got the opportunity to read Of Dreams And Dragons I jumped in with both feet even though I wasn’t too sure about dragons.

I have not read that many dragon books so I didn’t know if I would like it or not. But you know what I am glad I gave the book a chance because I really loved reading about Sky and her babies. How she had to grow up quickly and was mature enough to take on three children and one being a newborn as well a step dad that didn’t treat her or the children very well and was mean to them that was part of the package so to speak.

I can’t wait to read more about Sky, Kara, Caleb, Kyle, Kadan and Blake. Where is Kara? Will Sky be able to save her? What will happen to Caleb and Kyle? Will Sky finally be able to learn who and what she truly is?

Do I recommend Of Dreams And Dragons? Oh yeah, you bet I do. If you like reading about dragons or even if you have never read about dragons before give it a try anyways I think you will like it.

Sky Knightly has struggled her whole life. Her mother passed away, her stepfather is an abusive drunk, and she has had to be a mother to her three younger siblings. Despite the hardships, her life is filled with love and loyal friends. When her youngest sister is taken by a powerful, magical foe, she must travel across worlds and learn to wield a power she never knew she possessed. She trains with a squad that will become her new family. Her view of reality and the worlds must constantly adjust to new information, and just when it seems she has a handle on it, she discovers that maybe she never knew anything after all.

The story is filled with twists and revelations, which we discover through the eyes of Sky. The world that Karpov Kinrade has created is so vivid, with a rich history and very structured society. The characters are immediately lovable, and I found myself drawn into their exciting story. Filled with adventure, danger, and intrigue, the tale unfolds as the action continues. Just when the rules of the world begin to make sense, we discover truths about both friends and enemies, as well as myths and legends, that rearrange priorities and loyalties. It is a fascinating universe.

Fans of the Vampire Girl series will love this book - it shares similarities in structure, though the mythology behind the worlds are completely different. Both titles begin with a down-on-her-luck protagonist who leaves the mundane world to travel to a different dimension where technology doesn't exist but magic does. Both take place at a time when society is threatened by a revolutionary war between those in power and those who have been forced into exile and subservience. And both draw you into a world you won't want to leave with characters who touch your heart. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Of Dreams And Dragons is a stand alone book by husband and wife authors Karpov Kinrade. This book punches you in the gut from page one. Yes, it has dragons in the story, yes it has other dimensions full of other worlds and creatures, but this is no fairy tale. What it is; is gritty,sad,and painful yet full of hope and possibilities at the same time. It's about sacrifice and suffering and stopping at nothing to save someone you love.

I have read other books by these authors and what never fails to amaze me is their magnificent imaginations and their ability to take an idea so farfetched and turn it into something so believable and so beautiful. Karpov Kinrade's characters are very,very well developed personality and looks wise. You have no problem envisioning them clearly in your minds eye. The same with their personalities, you feel as though these are people you actually know. Some you love and some you dislike and some you don't trust for a minute.

The same applies to their descriptive abilities. The beauty with which they described the scenery and the dragons! Let's talk about the dragons...Karpov Kinrade created monsters bigger than mountains that destroyed and murdered entire towns, but in all their savageness and terrifying visage there was beauty. The beauty of their feelings, the beauty of their colors and their magnificence, by the time the authors were done describing these amazing creatures they had you wishing dragons were real and that you could touch one!

Many times whilst I was reading I found myself thinking" Wow this would make an epic fantasy/adventure movie.
Of Dreams And Dragons is a fantastic,well written journey. In my opinion a must read for fans of fantasy,adventure,sci-fi and dystopian genres.

Wow Wow WOW! Karpov Kinrade has wowed me again! I first fell in love with the husband/wife writing duo with their Vampire Girl series. Fans of the series are sure to be impressed with their latest work, Of Dreams and Dragons.

Starting off in our "human" world, we meet a girl who is somewhat special and has had a tragic life so far. She finds out that she's even more special than she thought and ends up going off to another world for both adventure, revenge and a rescue mission. In this other world, there are Dragons and Spirits and evil to face. Our hero must train and learn and grow in order to do what she came to this world to do.

The story is magical and wondrous and introduces us to magic, friendship, and teaches lessons about what's really important in life. The best part about the story for me, was it's unpredictability! I found myself gasping in surprise at two very definitive points in the book and had to read parts with my hand over my mouth I was in such a state of shock! The ending is bittersweet and definitely leaves an opening for a sequel or follow up, but not with such a cliffhanger that you'll be disappointed if the authors choose not to go that direction.

If you are a fan of the authors, or if you love high fantasy adventures...if you loved Vampire Girl, or if you love reading about Dragons, you're going to love this book. It's action packed, touching, full of adventure and emotion and will keep you reading until you can't keep your eyes open any longer!

Sky Knightly is a young woman that has a rough life. Her mother died in child birth leaving Sky to raise the three young children; Kara, Caleb, and Kyle. Her stepdad is a complete waste of space and abusive toward her and the other kids. But Sky is doing the best she can as a firefighter with her friend Blake but things are tough.

Things don’t get any better when Kara is kidnapped. Sky is approached by Kaden and taken to another realm to be trained as an Ashlord. It seems that there is more to Sky than she knew. But she is going to have to learn to control her powers to save Kara. But the more she learns about what is happening around her, the more she learns that everyone has secrets and some will change the whole game.

I really enjoyed this story. Sky has a rough go but is doing the best she can. I loved the world building and all of the creatures, especially the dragons. The tension is almost palpable as Sky is nipping at the bit to get Pike, but I loved learning about her abilities and following her training.

This is my first book from Karpov Kinrade abut it will not be my last. I can’t wait to see what happens to Sky next and I hope she gets Kara. But I am also excited to read other books from Karpov Kinrade.

Okay, i truly thought Vampire Girl would be my favorite Karpov Kinrade series of all time ...... I was wrong !!! Sky Knightly and her inner strength and love of her "children"( actually her younger brothers and sister she's had to raise since her mother's death), has hit me in the "feels" as my son used to say about feelings when he was much younger. Sky has so much inside of her that she doesn't even know half of what she is capable of, until the night her little sister is stolen by something that shouldn't exist. As she goes on an adventure to bring her back, one that she's not mentally or physically ready for, she knows deep inside she has to persevere, learn what she can from those willing to help and either bring Kara back or die trying.... or kill the monster who might have already killed her. You can see why I couldn't put this book down !! From one chapter to the next the hits just keep on coming and Sky keeps dealing with them !! You have to read this story if you like Paranormal thrillers, with sides of romance and lots of action . Karpov Kinrade has outdone themselves!! 5⭐'s and I need book 2 stat !! I received a gifted copy of the book and am voluntarily choosing to leave an honest and unbiased review.

Amazing read

Ahh karpov kinrade you both have out done yourselfs yet again so in my current reading cycle i had just finished off the nightfall chronicles books and was preparing to start the vampire girl books again but decided to read this one first and im glad i did i loved learning about the nine worlds and while i know its standalone adventure that takes place after the vampire girl season one and before season 2 im glad you brought a certain someone and there certain wolf into this even just briefly :P i loved all the characters and plot twists and im glad skye got to be with her daughter though im sad about the ones she left behind on earth though i understand why and glad skye got to be with kaeden in the end and that they are going off on the quest that they are going on in the end loved this book every bit of it from start to finish i know you have many other projects going on but once they are all are worked out and completed would like to see a new trilogy or saga formed with this book being the first if possible to finish and complete the story started here unless your planning to merge this lnto the iris and Elias stuff? Whichever the case karpov kinrade fantastic job

An amazing new world!

I have been sitting on pins and needles waiting for this book to be released. This story surpassed all of my expectations. There is magic, dragons, action, love, tears, anger, a new world, and twists and turns I didn't expect.

Sky is trying to survive, taking care of children who are not hers but who she loves as her own. Suffering abuse in silence so they don't have to. Until one of them is taken. Sky is more than she seems, and we get to go with her on her journey to a new world with rules that must be followed to turn her into an Ashknight, to save the child she loves, before vengeance is all she has. I really enjoyed this book as we were able to learn more than about just the main character. The authors also delved into those she counts as family, and we see what drives each of them. It is not just a quick ending that comes in a few weeks or months, there is an actual story that builds up to a great ending. I promise, you won't be able to put this book down.

I hope there is a book 2 in the making.

Of Dreams and Dragons is about a girl named Sky who travels to another world filled with souls and dragons to either save her sister or make the man who kidnapped her in the first place suffer. The man, known as Pike, is not an easy person to track down, however. So Sky must bide her time and train with her newfound powers until she can find and defeat him. Along the way, she meets several new friends - some of whom are keeping secrets that could change everything.

I really enjoyed this book. The cast of characters and plot are definitely interesting. So is the dragon lore used. True to Karpov-Kinrade nature, there are several twists, only one of which wasn't overly satisfying. The pacing was okay. As for negative feedback, I do feel like the book should have been split into two books. Normally I love longer books, but this one seemed as though it was smushed into one book when it would have fit more comfortably into two. That being said, I still greatly enjoyed it. I would definitely read it again and recommend it to others.

I enjoyed this book. I can't say it's my favorite Karpov Kinrade book (the Nightfall and Vampire Girl series hold that spot), but it was still an entertaining and interesting story from the writing duo. The book follows Sky Knightly's quest to find and avenge her young sister/daughter's kidnapping. Sky is a surrogate mother to her three younger siblings, struggling to make ends meet, and protect the children from an alcoholic, abusive father. One day a mysterious man appears and takes the youngest child, Kara, away. With the help of Kaden, another mysterious man from the same realm as the evil kidnapper, helps Sky travel to the realm where Kara was taken. Sky's journey is long and takes her years and she discovers who she really is along the way. This book didn't quite captivate me like Vampire Girl. The relationship between Sky and Kaden seemed weak and underdeveloped. That being said I would recommend the book if you’re a fan of Karpov Kinrade and if you enjoyed the Vampire Girl series (there's a nice Vampire Girl surprise in this book).

Most sites list this as #8 in the Vampire Girl World, but the author's website shows it as #9: the first book of Skye’s story. (The second being Copper Snare, which is listed as a prequel, which doesn’t make sense.) It’s in the VG world, but takes on one of the other worlds.

Sky Knightly is an overworked young woman whose life is falling apart. She’s desperately trying to care for her younger stepbrothers and stepsister, but their drunken, abusive father constantly gets in the way. Then an unearthly stranger shows up, calling in a debt with their father, and kidnaps her baby sister as payment. Fortunately, another stranger named Kaden Varis wants to help, but only if Sky follows him to another world.

Footnote: 1) Found a lot of errors in the eBook version of this. Like on page 289: ‘the stables shows that the hey is rotting’ and Page 308’ the dates and times they were last scene,’. There are dozens of these. Sloppy editing.

Fave scenes: under the bridge, Sky defending Raven, the squad’s new home, and the fight with Sylus.

Of Dreams and Dragons, is a sweeping epic fantasy. Yet, its also part adventure story, part mystery, and part love story in the way that bonds bring multi-layered relationships together.

We meet Sky Knightly, mother of her three younger siblings, struggling to keep her family together. She has the solid and loving support of her best friend as she combats both money issues and an abusive step-father.

Fate catches Sky up in a whirlwind that is bizarre and confusing yet somehow familiar. Sky is faced with an impossible choice, but she forges on letting go in some ways while wildly scrambling to grasp everything that she now sees as real.

I found Of Dreams and Dragons to be imaginative and unique, fast paced and beautifully written.

I fell for the book trailer KK put together for this book - check it out on You Tube. Also, check out the song release (on Amazon). I saw where a reviewer called the song haunting and honestly I'm not sure I can do better than that description.
