Oh, I do love a gothic romance.
This book takes you on a journey, through twists and turns. I adore the author and this world. Bring on paranormal romance yassss.
This is SWEET EVIL meets REAPERS. I am so excited for you to read this next October. It is the perfect book to read during those cold autumn days.

I’m so glad I requested for an arc of this beautiful novel! I sat down to read and I just couldn’t stop, the story was addicting and Sam and Ava are the cutest!
We see a girl that stopped living life at the fullest after her mother died, but the strange part is the dreams she keeps having and the fact that she can’t remember how her mother died, even though she was present at the moment. When she goes to live with her dad, she meets Sam. Sam is the mysterious and cute guy that somehow is present in her life and keeps saying secretive things to her which spikes her interest in him and an undeniable attraction. But in the midst of all of that she fears life, she fears this feelings and most of all, she is afraid of trusting Sam because she doesn’t know him that well. She would soon discover that indeed, he doesn’t know him at all, but maybe she can trust him.
I loved the setting of this novel, and the new perspective the author had about grim reapers was so innovative and amazing! I thought I had already seen everything supernatural but I guess I was wrong, and I loved being wrong about it.
All the scenes between Sam and Ava were just AWN and OMG and I ship this couple! Can’t wait to see more of Louisa and of the Grim Reaper’s politics!

Seventeen year old Ava is nearly drowning in her grief. After the death of her mother in a horrific car accident, she is set to live with her father on his farm. Away from old friends and the home she knew, she must try to start over.

On her first day there, Ava meets Sam - a young man hired by her father to work on his farm. Sam is handsome and seemingly close in age, so it seems only natural that Ava is attracted to him. But Sam seems to have his own secrets and there is more to him than meets the eye.

Getting closer to Sam not only brings a rush of emotions to young Ava's heart, but also pitches her in to a strange world lurking just beneath the surface. And brings to light truths that might have been better left alone.

Saving Death was provided for review, attained by replying to a Facebook ad.

Saving Death is the story of Ava, a young woman sent to live with her father and attempt to start over with a new life. She meets and makes several new friends at school but she also meets Sam. Sam doesn't attend school and works on her father's farm and there is something dark about him that draws Ava in. He tells her not to get close, tries to keep her at arms length, but it is obvious that he too feels an attraction. When Ava meets some of Sam's friends and eventually learns his secret, she wonders if maybe she has gotten in over her head.

Unless you have been living under a rock or such, then surely one is at least passingly familiar with the Twilight series of novels. Young woman meets mysterious young man and so forth and so on. It was a wildly popular series of books that spawned its own series of movies and other merchandise.

Saving Death is similar to Twilight only in the most basic of premises. It is in fact So Much More.

The titular character Ava is a young woman dealing with serious depression. While this is not stated outright, it is incredibly obvious when one looks at what brings her to her father's farm and her subsequent actions. She is practically drowning in her grief, doing the most basic of things seems like a chore. When she does go out with her new friends, she either spends the entirety of the time with her mind elsewhere or she delves head first in to the activities in a kind of frenzy to try and feel less numb.

Yes, Ava can be a little irritating at times. However, when one considers her age and her immediate past, some of her actions can be forgiven. And while she doesn't make a complete recovery by the end of the book, she at least seems to be taking steps in the right direction.

Sam is the other main character in the book. He is the young man that Ava meets her first day on her father's farm. While I cannot go too much in to Sam's character lest I spoil the ending, I will say he comes across as a decent guy. While he is standoffish towards Ava at times, when they do start to become close he is respectful of her boundaries. When Ava learns that Sam followed her to a rave, she is understandably upset; and when she tells Sam that she needs time away from him to think, he gives her that time and doesn't intrude.

The way the book ends - especially with the epilogue - hints at the possibility of more stories set in this particular universe. And oh dear reader, I hope it is true. For this universe has quite a few stories to tell; some looking back and others going forward. Characters that were only briefly introduced, some that we thought we knew - who are they really? Hopefully, time and future stories will tell.

Advertised as a Young Adult gothic romance, Saving Death is that and more. While it will certainly appeal to the older teen crowd, there is also enough to draw the more "mature" readers. Readers who love a good story, one that takes you on a roller coaster of an emotional ride, will likely love this story. It is a good thing I started this book on one of my long weekends because I tore through it in little time. I absolutely recommend this one and cannot wait to see more from the author.

Wow. Let me start by saying that the feelings I have at the end of this book are the way I want to feel after finishing every book I read: curious, shocked, and NEEDING more. I can’t wait for the sequel. Okay lets get into the real stuff.

I have been anticipating this books release since last fall when it was first announced. So, of course, when there was the opportunity to read it early I signed up as quickly as I could. Saving Death follows Ava in the aftermath of her mothers death as she has to move to a new town and continue on with her life. Endean does not gloss over feelings of grief and push them aside in light of a love interest. Ava’s grief plays a very prominent role in this story and I think the way it was handled was accurate and real. As far as the romance goes, it moved quickly but wasn’t “insta-love” (more like “insta-connection”). The story was very well paced: there was always something going on and I never felt bored while reading. There were for sure a few jaw-dropping moments, and the story leaves off with one heck of an ending (that I never saw coming). Overall, this book definitely reminded me of Twilight, but with a unique twist. I was so happy it did not disappoint. If you want an addicting page turner, give this book a go.

I was given a e-arc copy from Oftomes Publishing. In return for honest review. When I first starting reading this book I thought this going to about vampires or something. The more I read the more I was wrong. This book took me by surprise. And really fell in love with characters. Ava is a young girl who has to move and live with her dad. Because her mother had recently passed away. Sadly Ava had no memory of how her mother passes away. Ava isn't very close to her father. (which I can relate) Ava does have a hard time adjusting to living with father. She meets a young man named Sam who helps her father on the farm. And she wants to figure out who he is. And when she does find out what Sam is she is surprised. Just like I was and still am. She also meets couple of friends from her new college. This book has a lot of things romance and mystery and things I didn't even expect. Like that ending there better be a sequel I need to know what is next for Ava. I HIGHLY recommend this book. Saving Death tells the story of Ava and Sam. Ava’s mother passed away so she has to live with her dad. When she meets a handsome stranger, everything changes. She’s drawn to him, and Ava doesn’t know why.

Saving Death was such an original and interesting story. I’ve never read a story about reapers, which made it even more interesting. Saving Death was also a fast-paced read, I read it in a few days and there were many times that I couldn’t stop reading because I had to know the truth and what was going to happen to the characters.

I really liked Ava and Sam. They were both so realistic and interesting. I’ve dealt with loss myself so I could easily relate to what Ava was going through. I really liked how mysterious Sam was and I wanted to know more about him.

Saving Death was such an amazing book and I cannot wait to read more by R.L. Endean!

I was really excited for this book after reading the plot on twitter and requested for the e-arc. I was happily excited when I got an e-mail afterwards containing the e-arc.

We start off learning that our main character Ava is dealing with her grief in the wake of the loss of her mum. She transports her life to the countryside to live with her dad and meets brooding and mysterious Sam. She's off to start a "new life" and meets some unexpected new friends along the way. Cue the spooky vibes that go bump in the night.

Now here's where and why I gave 2/5 stars:

I was so interested in the plot and what the characters had to offer. I love the dynamic between Sam and Ava for all of two minutes. I love the way the author writes. She gave me beautifully written setting and atmosphere and I really felt like I was there. I, however, did not like the fact that Ava had no character development whatsoever in the story. Or any of the other characters for that matter.

The whole time I was praying that it wasn't going to be an instalove story but it turned out to be the case. I was raging by the middle to the end for what seemed to be a never ending cycle between Sam pushing Ava away only to come back and stalk her outright and insist on barging back into her life and Ava just being too blinded by her infatuation with him to stop it. I wanted more substance than what I got. Seline was just a friendly witch that helped and housed Sam but what was their backstory? What's Seline's deal? What about Ava's friendship with Lou?

ALSO, I was blowing steam out of my ears because Ava clearly threw all her education out the window and was so focused on her love life and I just thought that it wasn't the message. I have been in love many times and I know how all consuming it could be, but Ava was always distracted and just didn't even apply herself or try to do her schoolwork because she became so obsessed with the mystery of Sam that she couldn't function "properly" which I think is kinda BS. There are the big reveals at the end of the book that makes it seem that this is going to be a series. I believe a lot of my answers are going to be answered in said next book and I hope there's much more backstory and character growth. I also hope we get to explore more about the different types of relationships and friendships with different characters.

That said, would I read the next book in the series? Absolutely. I love the idea of the reapers and found that I haven't read a story that used the Grim Reaper in the plot before. I think it's pretty unique and I didn't much care for Ava and Sam's romance but would like to keep reading to find out more about this magic system and how it works. I had high hopes and I still do. I think it needs some growth and development but I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store next.

# What I liked

Where should I start? The problem with reviews is that when you don’t write one for a very long time you don’t know how it works anymore. *laughs nervously*

I think that I will start with the fact that Saving Death reminded me so much of Twilight! I loved Twilight as a Teen and I had so many troubles finding a good book which could do it justice. And let me tell you guys that this one is really really good! There are definitely some resemblances with the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer but there are no vampires in it. I kind of was a little bit disappointed by that fact but the “creatures” (I don’t really want to call them that but I don’t find a better term) are so much better than vampires. So so much!! I only read the Twilight books once because the films kind of destroyed my love for the series but I (and that is my opinion as an adult) think that Saving Death is so much better than our beloved Twilight. No annoying Bella because Ava (our main protagonist) is anything but annoying! She had to go through so much and still managed to continue and let me tell you that her life is even getting more harder through the story. My heart sometimes broke for poor Ava!

I also loved that we only got to know the existence of supernatural creatures during the last part of the book. This was so exciting! As you were left in the dark and had to guess (like Ava) what the heck was going on in the town and with some of the characters who seemed nice in the beginning but got very strange afterwards.

# What I disliked

So one character that I couldn’t stand. I honestly was so annoyed by him was Sam. He totally got on my nerves. A.LOT! Sometimes I had trouble understanding his actions (and I can’t explain anything here because otherwise I’m going to spoil you guys. And we don’t want that!)

Another annoying thing was that the love interest was so predictable. The reader immediately knows after the first chapter who is going to drive Ava crazy. I hoped for a little more suspense but unfortunately, the “surprise” was kind of ruined. When love interests are so predictable I can’t help it. I’m annoyed. I simply want more suspense and that’s opinion. It probably won’t even bother some of you.

Sometimes I also felt that the story was a little bit rushed during periods where it shouldn’t and too long for other parts where it should have been shorter.

Overall, I’d recommend Saving Death to all the readers out there who love a fantastic and kind of mystic love story with lots of interesting facts and well-developed characters. And even though this is not only a Young Adult book. As an adult, you can also read it without problems. Plus of course, if you loved Twilight you’ll gonna love this book and will want to read Twilight again. Because I certainly do!

Overall, I enjoyed the novel! I thought that this supernatural/gothic romance was enjoyable to read and I truly liked seeing Ava’s progression through her grief of losing her mother. This supernatural system that was at play in the novel was unique, and the ending truly made me excited to see what is in store for another book.

That being said though, I have a few problems with the novel:

1.) Somehow, Endean has made it difficult for me to decide whether I hate or love the relationship between Sam and Ava. I hate it because of the insta-love, but I also love it because of the resistance between them of falling in love with each other. I hate it because of how toxic Sam can be, but I also understand that the moments where he seems toxic are moments where he is not in control of himself because of what he is. I think that this back and forth just left me confused and made it difficult for me to understand what it was that I wanted from these characters.

2.) This book is rushed. I want to see more of this supernatural system by delving more into Sam and what he is and how everything works. I wanted to see him reveal what he is much earlier so that he can try to explain to Ava what he is meant to do and how she plays into everything within this narrative.

3.) Going off that, the revelation of what Sam is took way too long. It wasn’t until probably the last 75 pages that the reader understands what he is. I think that if this was brought up earlier, then I could see Ava start to trust him in a better light. Otherwise, I thought she was just being an idiot by still falling in love with Sam.

For readers that are interested in this book, do not let my opinion sway you. These are simply criticisms that I have because I am looking to go into editing and publishing myself. I am much more critical because of this, so the opinions of others may be vastly different from mine.

Saving Death is RL Endean’s debut novel, and while at it’s core is a YA Romance, there a blend of fantasy and mystery that made it hard to put down.

Saving Death teased and slowly revealed its many mysteries in a way that kept me guessing and engaged in anticipation to what plot twist or reveal it was going to throw out next. I was usually wrong, but all the buildup led to great payoffs and opened another mystery. Endean did not annoy or disappoint at all in this department, as it made me read “one more chapter” over and over again through effective cliffhangers. My only disappointment is that the book ended and I wanted more.

My interest was hooked from the very first chapter as we meet Ava, navigating through the grief of losing her mother and hardly remembering what happened. She has a multi faceted personality; the version stuck in her grief and this new version, ready to move on and take chances, and made her likable from the start. Her attention is also towards a mysterious boy named Sam who knows a lot about her grief and she can’t stay away from him. I really love the dynamic they have throughout the story, starting with a “slap, slap, kiss” and evolving as the story marches forward and I was very invested in it.

The supporting characters are great too, all with their own little spice to add to the story: Ava’s classmates and others around Ava and Sam. I really liked Louisa, Zac and Ava’s dad, and Seline.

The prose is very clear, vivid and easy to read, and as an American, the British English vernacular did not interfere with my experience one bit. England came to life, both in the urban and rural settings and I could feel for Ava as her journey continued. I loved the theme of death and how it’s dealt with here.

I will be looking forward to more of Endean’s works in the future, and I hope there’s more of Sam and Ava.

This is a book I think I might have enjoyed much more when I was younger and my reading tastes were different. I used to be very enamoured of books like Twilight and Beautiful Creatures, and Saving Death definitely has a similar atmosphere to those.
That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy this book. I did. Although the story itself took some time to get into and I couldn’t quite understand Ava’s initial reaction to Sam, I did find myself intrigued to know what would happen next and there were a good few twists and turns along the way.
I think I might have enjoyed Saving Death a bit more if the writing had been a bit more concise. This author can definitely write a good story, but I often felt like a lot of words were used where less words would have worked and even made the story flow better. Hopefully in future instalments of this series, the writing will get tighter and more controlled. I actually follow this author on twitter and she has been posting chapters on wattpad from what I believe is her current WIP, Project Gargon, and I can already see her writing getting even better. I am intrigued as to where the story is going next, which is always a good feeling to have when finishing a book. I can definitely see myself reading whatever comes next for Ava and Sam and I look forward to seeing this author grow.

First up, this is not my usual thing.
Second I had an ARC sent to me in exchange for a honest review.
A gothic romance dealing with loss, love and death. Ava is not in a good place at the start of her story, having survived something she can't remember that left her mother dead. She's grieving and the author does a very job of showing that, wanting to just move on, fit in with her new situation, and sleep a night without nightmares. The opening chapters are particularly good at revealing that sense of unease and everyone either tiptoeing around Ava or wanting her to open up, talk about her feelings and share everything. It's a good reminder that everyone deals with grief differently.
Then she meets Sam and things get romancey quick and also strange. There's more going on than Ava realises and her feelings are all over the place. No spoilers from me though.
Like I said, not my usual thing and I did struggle reading it off my iPad (not my natural reading) but the story rattled along nicely, the characters were engaging, and the oddness makes sense when things start dropping into place.
This does set things up for a sequel, but I felt it was almost too late to give that information and it felt a little tacked on. But there's certainly opportunity for this story to expand.
Not one for me, but I'm certain there are plenty of readers who'll love this.
Read if you like forbidden love, stories about death, and goth romance tales.

Sweet, sexy, and a little bit sinister. What more could you ask for from a paranormal romance?

Okay, first let me say that this book is not the genre I typically go for. It's also a little cliche, especially in the beginning.

The protagonist, Ava, falls for Sam really fast. It was a little too quick for my liking but the reason for her unexplainable attraction to him is explained in the end, so I’ll let it go.

Despite rolling my eyes at the beginning of the romance, I became intrigued- and then slightly hooked- on the story. I don’t know how the hell it happened but I couldn’t put it down. Even if I was frustrated with the characters and how dramatic they sometimes were, I still kept reading. I actually started to enjoy the same things I rolled my eyes at in the beginning. As the story progressed, I became more and more interested in Sam, what he was, and how he was connected with Ava.

The ending left me with a few questions but excited. I have no idea where this story is going to go, but I will definitely be reading the next book to see what's in store.

Botton line: If you're a fan of romance- and perhaps like your love interests a little dark and mysterious (and on the paranormal side)- then give this a try!

Saving Death is a Beautiful Gothic romances that reminds us that there is life after death. 
The beginning of the book has this amazing line; 
"Time couldn't erase grief, it could only allow it to shrivel and wilt like a dead low shedding its petals." 
Once I read that line I knew this was going to be gorgeous read. 
Sam is the leading man and he is not completely human, and the take on what he is very interesting. I loved the his revel, and the mythology and politics around him and his kind. 
Ava are leading female behaviour sums up with it is like being a teenager, as well as person with depression. Sometimes I do find her behaviour annoying. Than II do have to remember her age and reminds myself I was annoying at that age. 
Additionally I would like to commend the author R.L Endean on creating a Sam a character that when Ava asks for some space to deal with things, he gives her the space. 
Saving Death has a great mixture of Romance, teenage angst, fantasy and drama that keep wanting to read more. The epilogue gives us a hint that there are  more stories to be told from the world, which leaves me hungry for more.

I am partial to a dark, gothic romance and Saving Death was an incredible read. I loved the writing style - it felt almost poetic in places. And quickly grew to like the protagonist Ava.

I thought that Ava's depression, which has it's ups and downs throughout the course of the book was really well written and sensitively done. It is a major theme in the book, so this might be something worth noting. I also thought that the book portrayed grief really well too. The focus on grief as a journey and that there is no right way to grieve really spoke to me.

I have to say there was definitely something darkly enchanting about Sam - I do have a soft spot for morally grey characters with more than a hint of darkness. There were moments in the book that were chillingly dark.

Saving Death is a wonderful dark, paranormal romance. The pacing of the plot is spot on, and the mystery of Sam meant I really didn't want to put the book down. I actually read it in a day because I just needed to know what happened.

I don't want to say too much for fear of spoilers, but after that ending I really need book 2!

If you like paranormal romance with a dark twist I would definitely recommend Saving Death.

This story was a total mystery at the start. When I read few chapters I thought it would be a normal story. Mind you it was not. There was so much in this story that I wanted to read more and more. But well all good books come to an end. This was in no way the book I thought it would be. It was more then I expected and the mystery part of it got to me. I couldn't stop reading to know what was hiding and the cliffhanger at end, I want to read the part two right now.

The characters were so good. Specially Ava, she trying to deal with the grief in her own was real.And the way she has developed in the story and figures herself out loved it to. I don't know what to say about Sam without giving you the spoilers. He may seem confused and hard to understand but he has his reasons so please give him a chance. You will love him by the end of the story. Also the book cover is pretty.!!

Overall the story had romance and mystery who doesn't want that in a book. So go get the book and read it what are you waiting for.!!!!

When I was offered the opportunity to read the e-ARC edition of this debut novel by R.L. Endean, I jumped at the chance. The synopsis was intriguing, and just look at this beautiful cover! At first, it appeared to be a basic YA romance, with Ava being a young girl whose life is turned upside-down when her mother is killed in an auto accident. Ava moves in with her father and starts at a new school, while still dealing with her grief and lack of memory of the accident. When she meets black-eyed. Sam, she is inexorably drawn into a paranormal world, where nothing is as clear-cut as it seems.

For a first novel, Endean has created a wonderfully complex cast of characters, with all the depth of backstory and emotional complexity I would expect to see from a much more established writer. The story is nicely paced and smoothly written, with very little wasted dialogue or description. This is one of the few e-books I have reviewed that is guaranteed to be supplemented by an ink and paper copy upon its release later this year.

All my expectations towards this book were exceeded. I had no idea that this book would turn out to be this good and I can't even tell you how lucky I feel, that I got to be one of the first ones to read this book.

The supernatural prospect in this book was restarined at the beginning but it added this mysterious side to the story because it kept you guessing what was behind... everything. And I liked it that way. The only downside in this book was that occasionally I felt like the storyline was lagging and circling the same circle over and over again.

I loved the romance aspect of the story and I devoured it. Ava had endured a lot in her life and it brought a smile to my face when she had some gleam of hope in her otherwise not so glorious life.

This book is so refreshing! Think Twilight-esque but with more depth. The main character Ava is introduced at a time when she is deep in her grief about her mother's death. Endean deals with this grief in an honest way and doesn't forget about it when the romance is introduced. Speaking of romance, Ava's romantic interest is a young man named Sam who is mysterious and dark, but in all the right ways. He's so sweet and respects Ava. The side characters help support the plot, but don't take away from the story. The book kept me interested the whole time and I cannot wait for the next book!

I didn’t like the characters or love interest. Also didn’t like the recreational drug usage.

Saving Death by R. L. Endean

What a captivating gothic romance.

We meet 17 year-old Ava who is stuck in a state of grief as her beloved mum passed away. A car crash. That’s what she’s told, as she suffers from a trauma and therefore amnesia took over her memories.

Ava moves in with her dad. New city, new beginning.
We meet two potential love interests.
The slightly shy but lively Zac. A boy-next-door-Typus from College who befriends with Ava from day one.
And Sam. The mysterious guy who wants Ava to stay away from him.
But what’s his secret ?

The characters, especially, made me swallow the book in one bite.
R. L. Endean created characters with a deep background.
I was able to connect to Ava through the whole book. I shared her grief and wanted to curl up under my blankets with her.

Last but not least and it couldn’t be different:
Oh my dear cliffhanger! I can’t wait for book 2!
