Rhanna – unelmien saari

Rate this book

Vaikka saarelaisten tuntevatkin myötätuntoa Fergusia kohtaan, he päättävät pitää huolta Shonasta kunnes hänen isänsä tulee järkiinsä. Sitten Shona rakastuu Nialliin, tohtorin poikaan...

Saw this book on a friend's shelf, picked it up, saw the word "Romance " on it and immediately dropped it quicker than you could say Jack Robinson. Boredom drove me back to it tho and.....whoa!
This book is absolutely wonderful , with characters so real you could touch and feel em.
Learnt an important lesson; Dont judge a book by its cover....at least not all the time

An emotional sentimental walk through the love, life and the community of a wee Scottish island in the Hebrides from the early 1920's up to the 1940's, after Dunkirk. There are several more in the series that (if I come across them) I will read them. I don't know this author and it's not my usual choice but it was loaned to me by a well meaning friend who thought I should read a bit less horror and fantasy !

Early twentieth century Rhanna is home to an unforgettable cast of characters living on this small island of Scotland. The clannish community live, love, quarrel and are inextricably connected to each other in comical and heartfelt ways. This compulsively readable historical fiction novel kicks off a series this reader can’t wait to dig into.

Ihanan juureva ja viaton kuvaus elämästä syrjäisellä Hebridien saarella. Yhdistelmä ronskia huumoria, tavallista arkea, suuria mullistuksia ja hyvällä tavalla naiivia rakkaustarinaa toimi erinomaisesti.

3.5 stars. Felt like Rosamunde Pilcher. Emotional, character-driven story with lots of twists and turns. Will definitely continue this series!

I really wish I had started this series long ago. What a discovery! What life in the Hebrides is really like. I laughed and cried while reading this.

Back Cover Blurb:
Rhanna is a rich romantic saga of wholly believable people which moves readers to both laughter and tears.
Rhanna is a whole world, a wonderful picture of the tight-knit, warm-hearted community with its own life and customs, loves and feuds, childbirths and deaths. In its midst Shona and Niall fight for their forbidden love.

I enjoyed this book mostly because it was a story that took place in the Hebrides and I am always fascinated by anything to do with Scotland. The author has written about 6 other books about this island. I picked this one up in a hotel in Switzerland and might look for others.

I really enjoyed this book - a nice 'light' summer holiday read and I am now looking forwarded to reading more in the series. The characters who live on this small island are so well described that you can't help but wonder what they will be up to in the next book

I loved this book! It reminded me of Anne of Green Gables, adult version! but in the Outer Hebredies. Well written, with beautiful descriptions of the rugged island of Rhanna and its colourful characters, it may not be literature with a capital L, but it's simply a good comfortable read.

Heartwarming story set on an island in The Hebrides (off the Scottish coast). Great characterization! I read all of the other books that followed. You feel like you know the characters intimately by the end of the series.

I found the first few in this series just excellent, but then they became sadly predictable and a bit too stereotypical romance (rather than a family saga) for my tastes.

"Noble Beginnings" and "Rhanna Mystery" were good as well. "Ullin MacBeth" was very much a romance novel.

I loved this heartwarming series of the small community on the island of Rhanna, it was amusing, emotional and in some places downright tragic.

Loved this authentic Scottish human story. Feel like moving to the Hebrides, perhaps the Isle of Mull.
