The brookie high could only help so much. This book was so f-ing stupid that I should be ashamed of myself for reading it. And, I am. Maybe a brookie would help....
(I admit that he is eating healthy and that's not a brookie in his hand, but how cute is this panda? Panda's are the brookies of bears.)
Anyway, the book sounds fun. A girl who gets her own reverse-harem, and there's a mystery. Here's the thing, though, it wasn't fun. Not at all. If you look up "fun" in the dictionary, this book isn't even listed. It's more about Stockholm Syndrome and abusing some chick who is so stupid that she decides that her kidnappers are the good guys and has sexy feelings towards them. Seriously? I kept thinking that these asshole kidnappers should just go ahead and shoot her ass. But, she'd probably like that and then blame herself for causing them to shoot her. It was some sick and stupid shit.

How would you deal with being kidnapped and locked in a basement by a group of attractive men in their twenties? I’ll leave that thought with you, and if you read this book you can see how Darcy dealt with it.
Hacking Darkness (a reverse harem romance) is a fast-paced, action-packed, tense thriller with a drizzle of sauciness added to the mix too.
This is the first book in the Dark Codes series and I’m looking forward to finding out what happens next. It’s quite a quick read and I think it would be enjoyed by fans of Marissa Farrar’s Monster Trilogy.

I enjoy this author's writing style. This is definitely a Romantic suspense RH. Eager to finish the series, luckily the library has them all! I am sold this author for sure.

Girl has ability to remember numbers. FBI dad was killed by fbi agent because her dad stole a memory drive. 6 years later she is the only one who can open it because her dad’s dying breath told her the code. FBI picked her up and she was kidnapped by 5 guys whom initially she thought were the bad guys until she remembered.

I won't give away the story but how would you react if you were kidnapped from the FBI and taken to an unknown location by unknown men and locked in a darkened room? What would you do?
This is the story of how Darcy is taken, and what she and her kidnappers do afterwards.
I have to say up front I like this author a lot but this isn't one of her best books for me. It's got some very good moments but it is slow to get anywhere or for anything much to happen. The premise of this story feels a bit weak too.The men were not that well defined and Darcy herself was rather an unappealing leading lady with more to dislike than like, although it is easy to empathise with her situation.
There are things to like about this tale though, the emotions are engaged, and there are moments of tension, that do work well. The sex scenes seemed unlikely in the circumstances but they were well written even so.
To be clear this isn't a bad book, but the lack of pace mean this gets 3 stars from me.

The most I could give this book was 2.5 stars.
The story held a lot of promise, and really could have been great, had it not been for the heroine. She was beyond irritating, and had me rolling my eyes the whole way through. All descriptions made out as though she was a super intelligent badass - my favourite. Unfortunately that was not her AT ALL. She was whiny, disloyal and thick as too short planks.
I will say the writing wasn't bad at all, so if you can deal with a disappointing hero, you may enjoy this book.

I'm not going to say a whole lot about this book. I feel there isn't much I can say without giving anything away.
This is a must MUST read! Absolutely brilliant. Hacking darkness is a fabulously crafted dark romance. It's strange, it's crazy & odd at times and all of this makes it an excellent read.
I couldn't put it down. I was desperate to find out what happens between Darcy and the guys. I loved each one of them! Yes all Five of them are just lush. Why have one when you can have Five? (Wink.Wink.)
Marissa again has given us an excellent read in pure Marrissa fashion.
I can not wait for Book #2 and would have gone flying onto it if I could have. Luckily the good thing is you don't have much of a wait for the release of book two, which comes out later this month being November 2017.

This book threw me off a little because I couldn't get over the fact that this chick gets kidnapped and they use psychological torture on her and then by the end of the book she's convinced they are the good guys and starts to fall for them...
It might just be me but I wish the guys didn't go to such lengths because instead of being surprised they were the good guys, I was still questioning it and feeling like she was just falling for these guys because they were there. Again, this might just be a personal thing so check it out and let me now what you think!

I really enjoyed this RH read! It started out very intriguing and kept my interest the whole way through. The author is setting us up for a fun, action-packed series. I’m excited to read the rest!

I just started this series and I have to say I'm not a fan.
The entire premise seems rather foolish. I'm all for kidnapping a girl for some RH fun, but trying to give the story substance when there isn't any usually doesn't work out. I'd rather the author embrace the plot holes.
Plus, the love interests aren't that great either.
And I heard the series gets worse from here, so it's unlikely I'll continue.

This is the first non-paranormal RH book I’ve read, and I must say I love it!
Darcy’s world is turned around after she gives an interview about her dads death 6 years ago, and without realising it she provides new evidence in a case she had no knowledge even existed. Almost as soon as the interview is printed, the FBI is at her door to take her to their HQ for questioning. However, they’re intercepted and Darcy is kidnapped by 4 masked men. Darcy is a cabeable and stubborn woman, and she fights them at every chance she gets but she soon learns that might not be the way to go, and maybe, just maybe, there’s more going on than what she knows.
I love Marissa Farrar's writing, her style is amazing and really unique, which left me wanting and needing more. If you’re a reverse harem fan, you can’t go wrong with this book.

I liked the idea of this book but didn't like the FMC, so I really struggled to enjoy the story. It could have been so much better, but the author managed to make it quite bland and boring.
Darcy is kidnapped in relation to her fathers death. She potentially has the code that could help access some secret files. As an FMC, she is so annoying, and there is so much inner dialogue that I just wanted her to shut up half the time. She's 18, I think, or maybe a year or two older, but just acts like a stroppy toddler, and she was like this even before her fathers death so she can't blame that trauma.
So the kidnapping... she is actually kidnapped from the FBI, and it's not gentle. One thing I did like about Darcy, and it's probably the only thing, is that she was constantly thinking about escaping and did make several attempts. So many other books with kidnapping have the FMC instantly comply and the fact she didn't make me almost like her.
She's thinking about Stockholm Syndrome... within hours of being kidnapped, and she blamed it for her attraction to the guys! I mean, seriously, within hours!?!? She goes from trying to escape to lusting after them in the blink of an eye. It was so annoying. I think if the kidnap had gone differently, or she'd stayed with the original 'kidnappers' for longer, I think it would have been more believeable, but she just came across as childish.
The premise is that she's been kidnapped by the good guys, but they need to convince her they are the good guys. It takes a while, but in the space of one 'discussion,' she goes from not believing them to fully being on their side. The guys could have been more upfront from the beginning and it would have helped them convince her, but no, she has to be kept in the basement for a few days first (probably so she can fantasise about them a bit first).
I liked the guys, they are the usual harem of all being different, the techy one, the boy next door, the alouf one etc. I could see how the series could have been great..... if it wasn't for the FMC.
I won't be continuing the series, I really can't cope with more of Darcy.

REVIEWED AS A SERIES - MILD SPOILERS.
I read this series as the kindle version of the box set, so I read continuously through the four books. Normally this is something I like to do, but with this series I would recommend having a short break half way through. I suggest this, just to let some anticipation and interest build back up before diving back in.
My 4 star rating is for the series as a whole. The first book is definitely one of the better books in the series - for me anyway. There were times when I cringed a bit at the beginning with things Darcy did/felt towards her kidnappers, but it all changes as you learn more about them and her synesthesia is really interesting, not something I've heard of before.
I think my favourite of the series is when Darcy is a bit self-sacrificial and we truely get to see how strong willed, determined and resourceful this girl is. This is probably the main reason I would consider reading this series again, purely for this instalment which I loved.
As the books all span over a short time frame, I did find them dragged out in some places and rushed in others. The times where the team interacts with Hollan at various stages felt repetitive (until the last one of course), there were a few twists and turns I didn't see coming, but the ending of the Hollan saga I felt to be quite predictable and the events shortly after this which closed the series, while surprising, felt rushed.
All in all a 4 star series, and I would recommend to RH lovers.

This is my first reverse harem read and i sure wasn't dissappointed at all,i loved it and the concept of this story and how it unfolded,i am totally hooked.
Darcy starts off by selling her story to the paper from six years ago when her FBI dad got killed in front of her,little knowing what events she was unleashing.When the story went to print the very same day the FBI agents where at her door taking her to there headquarters,but on the way she was kiddnapped by four males in another car and taken to a remote place.
Darcy was kept in a cellar but not treated badly by the four men,even though she tried to escape a number of times.They all seems to like Darcy and once the fifth member arrived Issac, he was set to explain that they was on her side,and why they had taken her.They didn't take into account that Darcy was taking no crap from any of them,and at every opportunity she tries to escape,little knowing that they were on her side.
This was a dark and gritty read and the story got me totally hooked the more i read.I loved all the male characters but i wasn't sure about Issac to start with but he certainly changed my mind at the very end of this book.....Phew!! that was a hot hot scene to end this first fabulous book that i now can't wait to find out how this progresses,and how this will all end up.
I do love Marissa Farrar's writing she has a style that is truly unique that keeps us the reader wanting and needing so much more.If you love reverse harem this is definitely a book to pick up and read,you will be hooked from page one.Five huge stars.

Das Buch hat mich echt an meine Grenzen gebracht. Mehr als einmal habe ich mit dem Gedanken gespielt das Buch einfach abzubrechen. Es war einfach total verwirrend und so surreal dass ich ständig geschwankt habe zwischen dem Drang wissen zu wollen wie es weitergeht und das Buch einfach an die Wand zu klatschen und nie wieder einen Gedanken darüber zu verlieren.
Was mich, glaube ich, am meisten gestört hat war die Nähe zum Stockholm Syndrom. Gut, ich bin jetzt kein Spezialist auf dem Gebiet und kann daher nicht sagen ob es das wirklich war oder ob es einfach nur den Anschein haben sollte, aber das Thema an sich hat mich extrem gestört. Auch die ständige Ungewissheit... gehören die Jungs jetzt zu den Bösen oder sind sie wirklich die Guten? Ist es Stockholm Syndrom oder nicht? Bilde ich mir das alles nur ein oder liege ich richtig mit meinen Vermutungen? Will ich wirklich wissen wie es weitergeht oder kann ich damit leben einfach aufzuhören?
Ich konnte definitiv nicht damit leben das Buch wegzulegen und musste wissen wie es weitergeht. Aber auch das Ende des Buchs ließ, für mich persönlich, einiges zu wünschen übrig.
Ja okay es gab Action, es war spannend bis zuletzt, aber wer zur Hölle lässt sich in einer Gruppe von fünf Kerlen die dich entführt haben, nach einem Angriff, Fingern?
Das war dann der Moment wo es für mich vorbei war.

This is my review from trying to read the box set. DNF @48% for the box set, so I did read the whole book 1 for the series. CAUTION: spoilers ahead!!

I tried. Really tried. There are very few grammatical errors and the author does know how to pull a reader into their feels. But....
But....The FMC is atrocious. In the first book of the box set she is just really stupid and her thought process is unrealistic. I persevered though because of the situation the FMC was in, I know logically everyone deals different. It didn’t stop me from cringing though. Another con to this series is the quick timeline. Everything happens in a matter of days and in book two, less than a week of knowing her harem, she has feels.
The world, setup, and harem guys are actually all pretty well done. It is seriously the main character that ruined all of it. I’d hoped that we’d see a longer timeline and watch her grow but at almost halfway through the box set she’s still an immature, selfish brat with absolutely nothing to offer except her ability to remember numbers.
This series definitely wasn’t for me BUT I do plan to check out this authors other work. They have talent and I’d like to see what else they offer.

The world, setup, and harem guys are actually all pretty well done. It is seriously the main character that ruined all of it. I’d hoped that we’d see a longer timeline and watch her grow but at almost halfway through the box set she’s still an immature, selfish brat with absolutely nothing to offer except her ability to remember numbers.
This series definitely wasn’t for me BUT I do plan to check out this authors other work. They have talent and I’d like to see what else they offer.

Darcy's father was killed in front of her and somewhere within the recesses of her mind are the numbers behind his death. Betrayed by one of his own, now his daughter, Darcy is in danger. She is "kidnapped" for her safety and now finds herself with a group of men also wanting the code and to protect her. Darcy no longer knows what to believe or who to trust.
Not bad but it could be better. The mystery storyline is intriguing. Darcy is an interesting character with a solid backstory. The "good" guys need more character development. It's hard to keep them straight but more importantly, I have no reason to trust them or even like them. They claim to want to protect her, yet they punish her multiple times. Why didn't they explain everything the moment they got her to safety. Give her proof of their position. Without getting to know them better, Darcy seems too intelligent and too wary of humans to get attached or become intimate with anyone much less her abductors. Her behavior makes it appear she is suffering from Stockholm syndrome and that makes their interactions creepy instead of sexy. It was too rushed, so I never felt true connections. This needs to be fixed as quickly as possible. She needs to become a member of the group and we need to get to know the guys in-depth.

Intriguing is the word that comes to mind when I think about this book. It definitely managed to pique my interest and now I'm pretty much hooked.
Darcy's father was an FBI agent, who stole something from an agency - a memory stick. For that stick he was shot in front of his daughter and with his dying breath he kept repeating some smilingly random numbers to her. The memory stick was never found, but now, six years later, people are coming after Darcy because they want the code that only she knows.
I had a rather good time while reading the story. I definitely found it interesting trying to figure so many things out (most of which I still don't know). It took me no time at all to fly through the book because of so many things happening in it and because the writing was that good.
I don't have much of an opinion regarding Darcy yet, but I sure was fascinated by the males in the story. There is something curious about them that keeps drawing me in.

I feel like nothing happened at all in the book.. It started out strong but by chapter 10 is when I realized besides her being kidnapped nothing was going on.. She had so much unnecessary inner dialog that it took from the story... She talked so much shit about Isaac being ruthless and cold as if she didn't slice his wrist the first time she met him.. He literally did nothing to her and she kept saying she trusted him less than the other.. She was childish as hell from start to finish, throwing a tantrum like a 3 year and then after finally learning some truth to what happened the night her father was killed she still didn't tell them the code.. Even though she wanted the man responsible to pay but the only way he could pay is if she gave them the code.. Then her dumbass calls her aunt after they told her that wasn't a good idea giving up their location.. I'm not understanding why she didn't think they would tap her aunt's phone.. She kissed 2 of them, dry humped another and then let Isaac put his hands down her pants and that was it...Won't be finishing this series...

This is my first book by Marissa Farrar. I came across the book set in Kindle Unlimited and decided to give it a try because it sounded really interesting. I'm glad I did.

To try and earn some money Darcy decides to give an interview to the press regarding the day her father was killed. You see, Darcy's father was an FBI agent and the mystery surrounding his death was of great interest to many people. However, by giving this interview she unknowingly sends her life into a tailspin.
Both the FBI and a group of unknown members think Darcy has information they want. Darcy will have to decide who to trust. Should she trust the FBI, her father's co-workers, or should she trust the five men who kidnap her? Can she even remember the information they're after any way?
