I denied it forever, even to myself, but the truth is I’ve always loved Sophia.
No, I wasn’t carving CARTER + SOPHIA in trees or anything, but damn, I was talking about marrying her when I was still in kindergarten.
Somehow, we never managed to become an item before we went off to college and ended up on different coasts. I didn’t think it’d be a big deal, until she ghosted me like I was some piece of trash she couldn’t stand.
That was years ago, but now my dad is marrying her mom. On freaking Christmas of all days. Hard to avoid a girl at her own mom’s wedding, you know? We’re not little kids more, and I can’t get her out of mind.
Is it stupid to want someone who already rejected you? Is it wrong to want someone who’ll be your stepsister soon?
I don’t know if I care about stupid or wrong anymore. Not if I can be with her.
Carter has had a crush on Sophia since kindergarten but she rejected him. After college they ended up on separate sides of the country but he never forgot her. In fact, Sophia was all he could think about. Their parents are getting married at Christmas and they are thrown together. They're grown and the attraction is still there. No spoiler here, but this is a well written book with a sweet storyline and lovable characters. I read an advance copy and voluntarily chose to review this book.
This is another case of telling, not talking....page after page after page of endless, needless, useless narrative. Then, a line, or occasionally two, of conversation. Then right back to miles of narrative. This is not a writing style I enjoy reading. Halfway through the first book, I gave up. I scanned through the rest of the books in the set. They all appear to have that in common. If you like that style of writing, or if it doesn't just get on your last nerve, (as is the case for me), you may enjoy this set. I did not.
Was only able to skim thru the first book in this series. So very, very slow. What could have been written in a few good chapters dragged out page after page. It was like the writer was writing to meet some sort of word goal. Would have been much more enjoyable as a novella with at least some action involved. Usually I love long novels but I do need to see some sort of plot progress as the pages rack up. This author is definitely off my reading list.
Carter Mills fell in love with his best friend Sophia Ray when they were preschoolers but it wasn't until they were much older and brought together for their parents wedding that they realized their true feelings for one another. Do they fight their obvious attraction or give into it?
