When a lone Apothecary is stranded with vital supplies of gene-seed that could secure new generations of the Scythes of the Emperor, a squad of his battle-brothers enact a daring mission to save him and safeguard their future.
LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE It's a daring, dramatic tale of airborne action featuring the devastated remnants of the Scythes of the Emperor as they struggle for survival.

Book - As someone who is extremely new to the Warhammer 40K: world/lore/setting I personally found this short story to be a fun, well-paced, action-adventure. After playing 40K: Space Marine 2, it was also nice to have another story featuring the Tyranids.
Author - This is my first experience with author L.J. Goulding, so I don't have very much to say. However, Goulding has a descriptive ability to draw me into his work and stay focused. Clear, and easy to follow. Descriptive/Exhilarating battle scenes, and a satisfying Storytelling ability. I will be checking more of his work out.
TL;DR: Fun, Drama focused short story with a touch of airborne combat flair that I'd recommend if you like 40K/Sci-Fi books. 10/10.
A competent and mildly entertaining romp with a lesser-seen Chapter versus Tyranids with some nice descriptions of bioforms, but it lacks the added thing to make it more than a prose recitation of a battle report.
This is a tense educational tale that shows you just how dangerous dropping sharp object from a high altitude can be!
Scythes of the Emperor: Daedalus; was one of the most genuinely exiting and tense audio drama's I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. This achievement is in thanks in large part to the top quality audio production and music present throughout some of the highly atmospheric air combat sequences. Yes you heard that right, air combat!
The two larger set pieces of this drama focus on assault marines using jump packs to hurl themselves through the air, free-falling and escaping burning air craft while fighting giant winged beasts as they go. Usually I am not a fan of too much action in an audio drama but here it really works, primarily due to the constant sense of impending danger that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
Just a note, I read this rather than listened to it. I loved this tale, it did an amazing job of showing what the Scythes of the Emperor are. And what they are is hardcore, badass Tyranid killers even when their chapter is crippled and on the verge of defeat. Seeing Hannelore from Slaughter at Giant's Coffin again was great, I love how she's went from being a skilled lieutenant aboard the Heart of Cronus to shipmistress of the Atreides. She didn't say or do much but I liked that link between stories. The new marine, Esau, was a bit too good for being a brand new assualt marine (he mentions it's his first drop) but...what are you going to do? It's warhammer the world of Mary Sues and plot armour. All in all, one of the best Scythes of the Emperor out there, you should read it for sure.
A tense, breathless hour of aerial Space Marine action, Daedalus sees an under-strength assault squad embark on a dangerous mission to rescue a stranded apothecary and, more importantly, the geneseed he’s protecting.
Setting an audio drama mostly in mid-air is the sort of obvious idea that’s only obvious because of how good the sound design has got with these productions – suffice to say it’s incredibly absorbing, and if you listen on decent headphones with your eyes closed you’re entirely transported into the thick of the action.
The plot itself isn't anything to write home about but it was wonderfully written. But my praise must go to the actual production of this audio drama! It was the best one I've listened to and absolutely loved the sound effects in it. I closed my eyes and could picture that hanger bay as if I was there.
