Cindra Kamphoff is the author of Beyond Grit. Beyond Grit is an amazing book because of the 52 chapters. It shows/tells you how to not give up and just keep going. My favorite chapter is 27 because it tells not to take things personally. One thing Cindra said I like a lot is “When you take things personally, you allow the words of others to poison you” Those words are so true because what one says about you doesn't matter. Specific things that really point out about Beyond Grit is the first section of the book “Get Gritty”. This section talks about Grit over Gift, No Grit, No Pearl, Difficulties Happen for You, Dream for a Living, Plan Your Destiny, and lastly Rule your Day. Chapter 3 (Difficulties Happen for You), Cindra talks about how she was in a marathon and when she got to the 17-20 mile mark in her marathon she realized her hands were swelling and her legs ached because she forgot to take her salt tablets. She got into her own head and said “You are such an idiot, Cindra! I can't believe you forgot to take your salt tablets”. She said she takes salt tablets several times in marathons so she avoids cramps and stays hydrated. While she was running she was struggling but she regained her focus and surprisingly she passed 90 people!! And she finished over 40 seconds from her personal best 26.2 miles. I really recommend this book to people 13+ because it is a little hard to read and the wording was a little weird because when I was reading reviews on goodreads on Beyond Grit one review really popped at me because the person was saying how some words were off than they should be and I totally agree. Beyond Grit is a little confusing but it is a really good book to get a new mindset as well! I hope you will like this book as much as I liked it!
I’m currently about 25% through the book but there are so many wonderful things to help build the grit mindset already. As a husband, father, teacher, and a coach I realize where there are places I can make adjustments in my own thinking and beliefs, but also have uncovered a few great practices to introduce to the people around me. I highly recommend this to anyone working to improve some piece of their life whether it is sports, career, or family related.
So many great insights and ideas! I coach high school runners and there is so much here I can use to develop young adults navigating life. For me, it’s a great resource to keep my life challenges in perspective. I’ll go back to this gem over and over!
This book is a fantastic motivator for anyone wanting to take life by the reins. The 52 short chapters pack a punch and encourage readers to consider how they can work toward - and achieve - whatever they set out to do.
This book was good. I read it for book club through work. For the most part I enjoyed it and it felt very empowering and positive for me. Although the sports talk was a little too much so towards the end I skimmed and read big blue words. Overall, it was a good read.
Some great material in this book and a few impactful quotes. Here are some of my favorites. “When writing the story of your life, don't let someone else hold the pen." —ANONYMOUS
“The greatest discovery of any generation is that a human can alter his life by altering his attitude." -WILLIAM JAMES, PSYCHOLOGIST
"Being positive won't guarantee you succeed. But being negative will guarantee you won't." —JoN GORDON
