‘Fate. Love. And the inevitable. Welcome to Z’s world.’
For Z, prostitution is a way of life, but it’s also become his prison. Desperate to forget his ugly existence, even if it’s only once a week, he confides in a john—a mysterious but kind man named Brody. For Brody, he’s found something special in Z—an innate charm and pure view of the world—qualities he can appreciate. He’s grown fond of Z and comfortable with their routine, but he knows it will soon come to an end. As Z’s affection burgeons for the unusually altruistic Brody, he discovers the man has a dark secret. Nothing is ever as it seems.
Blak Rayne is a best selling author of gay romance. She loves to write and believes it's one of the greatest forms of self-expression. What better way to see inside the human soul? Blak resides in Canada, and yes, she is a woman, wife and mother. She’s been writing and drawing since elementary school, and she loves anything that involves the arts. As for family, her daughter is her toughest critic and greatest support!
The fact that the two MCs have nothing in common at the beginning but slowly became to understand that they're more alike than they think was great to read. I also really enjoyed Brody's "sociopathic love" for Z. The guy is crazy, yes, but takes care of Z, and protects him. I really like this kind of relationship protector/protected in a story. I won't spoil, but the ending was good.
I would have appreciated more character development. Sometimes I had the feeling that some things were left over. At the beginning of the book, they already know each other, I would have like to read about their first encounter for example.
Also, in one of the first scene, something terrible happens to Z. I didn't need gruesome details but the fact that this incident is skipped trough gave me a hard time feeling empathy for the guy.

This series was everything I hoped it would be! The characters were different—not cookie cutter or predictable. The action and suspense didn't stop and I couldn't put it down. I loved how each story was tied to the next. This series would be perfect for fans of horror, psychological suspense, crime and even a little romance. Some of the characters are twisted but in the best possible way! 5 stars!
An assassin and rent boy series...need I say more? I enjoyed the collection and have no really pressing complaints about it. I'm not sure if the stories are sold individually but grabbing the collection is a good idea since each story builds upon each other and it'll just read better.
To simplify:
What I liked: 1) Brody and Zeus (Z), they both don't seem to have anything in common but the off page time they spend together builds their bond and they are similar even though they don't seem so at first glance. 2) Brody could be intense when it came to Z. Even if he came off as cold-hearted a good amount of the time, he never let any permanent harm come to Z. 3) The two cared deeply for each other even if they didn't act like it at times. 4) The growth between the two and the effect they had on each other. The ending was a nice touch.
What I would have liked to see: 1) More character and relationship development. I liked that readers got to get to know Brody and Z and what happened in their lives to make them the people they are. I needed a bit more when it came to affirmation of their relationship and personalities. Neither were exactly open books though Z was more emotionally mature. I would have liked the beginning of their relationship to have been fleshed out. I feel if there had been more development and build up I would have been more invested and attached to the characters.
2) There were points in the story where I thought Brody could have been more badass. He certainly wasn't portrayed as being invincible but it would have been nice if he appeared to be for a while (what was there was still good though).

This was....an interesting read.
I'll get the critical out of the way, lest I forget. If I were an editor this book would have been rated a low two stars at best. It was frequently scatterbrained and even seemed like less of a complete story and more of a bullet list.
It's good that I'm not an editor.
Often times my reviews are...questionable considering the content of a book. There is a method to my madness though: I read and rate based off what a book makes me feel. Simply put, this book did what all good books are supposed to do and it made me feel.
At points I was on the edge of my seat with excitement, and at others with disgust. Whatever the particular scene made me feel, I was certainly rife with emotion while reading. So, despite the maybe less that superb execution, this story is one to watch out for.
The book was a good read. I felt that the characters were strong in there given rolls and the series was not rushed. It flowed very well. I felt that some of the chapters jumped around a bit, but that could just be me as a reader. I think the author did a great job defining the characters and the ending wasn't anticlimactic.
Excellent read. Well written with a great plot and characters. I was engrossed from start to finish. This book has a lot of action, suspense and a bit of romance. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Netgalley.
