Whatever We Are is a delightful read. Since the story takes place during the Christmas holiday, you would think it would be a fun-filled time for all. Nope, not this Christmas. Lisa is a headstrong artist that dreads Christmas, thinking the holiday has cursed her. When her cousin, Diana, comes to town with her boyfriend expecting to play Mr. and Mrs. Claus at the Mistletoe Ball, Lisa will have none of it. She talks Tucker, her best friend, into playing the role with one catch. She has to play Mrs. Claus. The story is too fun to tell you more. There are several surprises, ups and downs, and some romance along the way.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. Loved this book, as I've loved everything Leigh Fleming has written. Her characters are so real yet exciting, you want to get to know them and get involved in their stories. Lisa is an artist. The irony is she makes one-of-a-watercolor Christmas cards yet she hates Christmas. She feels she is Christmas-cursed. She also has a perfect nemesis cousin named Diana. At Thanksgiving, Diana announces that she and her new boyfriend Bret, whom Lisa had a bad experience with in high school, are moving back to town in 2 weeks and want to be this year's Mr and Mrs Claus because they are perfect for it! Lisa is ready to puke! She also insists that her friend Tucker, who was asked to be Mr Claus, and turned it down, has changed his mind and will announce his Mrs Claus at the next event (he did no such thing but Lisa refuses tote Diana win). So Liza corners Tucker, cons him into being Santa, but he turns the tables and says he'll only do it if she'll be Mrs Claus. And they have to act like a committed couple. Tucker been into Liza for ages! She thinks of him as a friend. So, how will this intriguing tangle untangle? Hmmmm? A recipe for little disaster? Will Liza's Christmas curse make an appearance? Or will she and Tucker head toward an HEA? As always, Ms Fleming's books are hard to put down!!
What a wonderful story. Liza feels as if she is always cursed. First an accident ten years ago that put her in a coma. Now she’s bidding for the castle and finds out her friend is bidding against her. Will love come into the picture. Couldn’t put it down until I found out what happened. Received a free book and had to review because it was so wonderful.
I enjoyed reading Liza and Tucker's contemporary romance. Tucker is a funny cuddly man who has been in love with Liza for a long time. Liza has gone through a traumatic accident a few years back and has to deal with issues concerning the accident and feels that the holiday season is a jinx for her. Tucker to the rescue. A definite light hearted book.
I really liked this book. Actually, Christmas stories are one of my favorite genres. Liza thinks she has a Christmas curse so she hates the holidays. Bad things always happen to her at Christmas. Her best friend, Tucker, wants her to see things (and him) differently this year, so he blackmails her to play Mrs. Claus to his Santa, (that she signed him up for). Will it work? This is a wonderful story, and now I have to read the rest of the series!
