Apparently, I started this in August 2019 and forgot about it? So, safe to say it did not hold my interest and I have either the time or interest in trying again at this point.
Maybe 10 years ago, I was gifted with a random collection of Harlequin Romances from the 60s and 70s. For the most part, they were WONDERFUL, and I was soon addicted and always looking for more of these oldies. However, being written in an earlier time, there were no sex scenes and some of them depicted the interactions between the heroine and hero in a very “Me Tarzan, you Jane” way with the hero always being in charge, always right, many times abusive, and the heroine supposedly loving every minute of it. Ugh. Yet, the storylines, the settings, and the characters were very compelling, interesting, exotic – I loved them.
Vistaria Has Fallen reminded me of all the good things in these books with the bad bits corrected. It has a great storyline, an exotic location, a load of action, characters that felt updated and realistic, dialogue that was natural, and sex is a “yes.”
I enjoyed the heck out of this book, and although it comes to a satisfying conclusion, there are signs that there is more to the story. I will anxiously await a sequel!
I received a free, advance copy of this book from the author in exchange for my unbiased review.
I came across this free book , looked interesting, started reading and bed time passed me by. Lets see what is this about? Well you have this woman who gets arrested basically as soon as she arrives in a foreign country. Hot guy gets her released. Dreams kick in oh did I mention x-rated dreams?! Woman and man run into each other a lot. Rebels are set to take over and they want the Americans gone. Woman and Man get to know each other. Ohh Ohh Woman's cousin falls in love with a military guy and then all kinds fun begins.
I was so not expecting to fall in love with another book, but damn that was until I read this one. I never wanted it to end. I immediate checked to see if there was another book in this series out. My luck not yet. Shakes head well I guess I wll read something else till the Author gets a move on!! (JK)! Well kinda!
ABSOLUTELY RIVETING !!! Title: Vistaria Has Fallen Series: Vistaria Has Fallen Author: Tracy Cooper-Posey Designation: Full-Length Novel (234 pages), Book One of Six, Not Recommended As A Standalone Reading Platform: Kindle Edition My Rating: Five Riveting Stars**** Before I get into specifics, I'd like to first make a short disclosure. This book was originally published in 2003 as Red Leopard, the first book of the Guns 'n' Lovers Erotic Romance Series by Tracy Cooper-Posey, then released again in 2012 with the same title and basic content but with a different cover and designated as Book One of the Vistaria Affair Series. The author has recently revised and re-edited the book by removing the erotic content but not the romance and re-released the story as romantic suspense with a new cover, title, and series designation, Vistaria Has Fallen. This latest incarnation focuses primarily on the political thriller aspect of the story thereby making it suitable for a wider audience. I've read Red Leopard as it was written originally as well as the most recent version, Vistaria Has Fallen, and can honestly proclaim I love both! Yes, there was a lot more explicit sex in the original version but the sex was only a small part of the story; it was never actually the story. Initially, I was afraid the revised version without the sex would not be as um... stimulating (*cough* I think you catch my meaning), but I was dead wrong. It was the exact opposite! Without all the sex distracting me, I found myself more focused on the characters and the political climate stirring the hotbed of civil war inside the fictional Latin America island nation of Vistaria. When I read the original version twelve years ago, I remember thinking how realistic I felt the storyline was at the time. But what's really surprising is how relevant the story continues to be today, even after fourteen years. As usual, I digress so let's talk a few details.
Vistaria Is Fallen is a smart, edgy, exciting, fast-paced, well-crafted political thriller filled to the brim with danger, drama, action, adventure, suspense, political machinations, a diverse and very engaging cast of characters, agonizing angst, an irresistible attraction, and a passion so overwhelming, so undeniable, it combusts into a fiery blaze that will alter the course of millions of lives and spark a rebellion, setting an entire country onto a path of war. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with the primary perspective from the heroine, Callida 'Calli' Munro, an almost economics professor from Montana. We also get a brief insight from Nicolas Escobedo, the hero and half-brother of Vistarian President Jose Escobedo, and another very brief point of view from Calli's cousin, Minerva 'Minnie' Benning. I generally prefer books with, at least, dual perspectives and was so hoping the author would expand the hero's backstory and point of view in this revised version, especially since Vistaria is Nicolas' native country and not Calli's, but the author did a great job of supplying the reader with ample information using dialogue. I was immediately smitten with all the characters but Calli and Nick were just the cat's meow! *sigh* OMG, Nicolas Escobedo aka the Red Leopard was a man of mystery with such a powerful persona. I've always been attracted to gingers with green eyes and Nick is a ginger, features obviously inherited from his mother and not his Latin American father. *sigh again* And Calli... oh my! She's so strong and beautiful, tall, athletic, blonde hair and blue eyes, and so different than the women of Vistaria. Even after all the erotic scenes had been removed, I could still feel the attraction and undeniable sexual chemistry between Nick and Calli. It took on a life of its own, so powerful and, unfortunately, inevitable. It was like watching an accident you knew was going to happen but couldn't stop, no matter how hard you tried. They were absolutely perfect together, complementing each other brilliantly. We do discover a good bit about Calli and her life, and why she came to Vistaria, and why she's still single in her thirties, but I was a little disappointed in the character development of Nicolas Escobedo in the original story. I'd hoped we would discover more about the enigmatic Red Leopard and how he came to be in his current position of trusted advisor to his half-brother and respected liaison between the Vistarian government and military but alas, Nicolas still remains somewhat of a mystery. Romantic Suspense has always been my favorite genre and Tracy Cooper-Posey certainly kept me on the edge of my seat, white-knuckling my ereader with my heart fluttering wildly in my chest as the pages flew as quickly as the time. It was riveting! Did I like this story? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am, for anyone who loves political thrillers, action adventure tales, and romantic suspense. This book is a full-length novel and the first of a six book series. I believe each of the books will feature a different couple but there is an underlying interconnected storyline and does end in somewhat of a cliffhanger leading into the second book, which is why I do NOT recommend this as a standalone read. But if you're anything like me, once you read the first, you'll be hooked and won't be able to stop! I've already preordered the second book, Prisoner of War, which will feature Minnie and Duardo. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! I've been a diehard fan of this author for many years. Tracy Cooper-Posey is an exceptionally talented wordslinger and skilled wordsmith who writes in many genres and I love them all! ANd finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
Wow! Great story! Vistaria is a Latin country that is in turmoil and on the brink of a rebellion take over. Calli goes to Vistaria after a phone from her Uncle Joshua, who lives there running a silver mine. He called to ask Calli to come to Vistaria to help with is daughter, Millie, Calli’s younger cousin. Calli finds trouble shortly after she lands in Vistaria and has no idea how she will get out of it.
This story is full suspense, action, and twists that will keep you wondering what will happen next, as well as who can be trusted. The characters are well rounded and very likable. The men are strong but show vulnerability as well. They love their country and want the best for it. They are also very passionate about the women they love. Calli is a woman who has issues from a past relationship, but learns that she is stronger than she thought, and her strength can help her as much as hurt her.
I loved this book and give it 5 stars. I hated for the book to end. I want more of Nick and Calli, and there were some other questions that need answering at the end of the story. If you like a love story with some action and suspense, and a strong hero and heroine, then Vistaria Has Fallen is a good book to read. The love story between the characters in this story will make you happy as well as want to cry at times.
I look forward to reading more of this series in the future. I want to know what happens now.
Tracy you did a great job with this book and the wait will be hard, but I know it will be worth it for the next book to come out.
I'm not going to rate this one. I remember some of it but not enough. Not only that, but this book and the rest of the series was it has been re-edited, repackaged with new front and end matter and re-released along with the other two books in the first half of the series. All the titles have been completely changed. So in essence it has been nearly completely Rewritten. Here is the new title names;
Reprint series name: Vistaria Has Fallen
1.0: Vistaria Has Fallen (Red Leopard) 2.0: Prisoner of War (Black Heart) 3.0: Hostage Crisis (Blue Knight) 4.0: Freedom Fighters (White Dawn) 5.0: Casualties of War 6.0: V-Day
Now, the old one with the title of this review definitely had Erotic Sex Scenes. AND I did a double triple check and What I find is confusing reviews! Some say yes, Erotic Sex scenes and one says no. So in all honesty, I just don't know. Maybe they were just toned down some. It sounds like an interesting series. But until I know for sure I wont be going forward to read this series. I have to have my adult scenes. No closed doors or fade to black for me, thank you.
An unexpected read for me. I'm use to reading this author's amazing paranormal, time travel, as well as sci-fi books, and this read is just a passionate without those genres. We have danger and intrigue in a Latin country on the edge of a revolution. We have an American woman in trouble and an unknown man known only as the "Red Leopard" who helps her. But he's only unknown by that name for his real name is known by many. With the help of the people, everyone's freedom can be seen, but revolution is always hard and when the leader has an attraction for the American it can be even harder. I don't do spoilers, so you'll have to get this book to read about the fire and spirit of the "Red Leopard" and the people of his country. They will fight for their freedom, as well as the "American" who falls into the middle of it all and is willing to fight along side the man who makes her passion grow for not only him but his people as well.
This series has the first contemporary books I have read from this author and reading them was a great experience. The plot is full of twists and the descriptions are quite lively. My only complaint is with the love scenes that always put a stop to the story and are sometimes longer than necessary. The characters are interesing but not always relatable. This wasn't the first book I read from this series but I would advise to follow the order because it will be easier to follow the plot that is complex and is spread through the 4 books published so far.
I liked the story overall, the characters, the love stories and the setting.
The amount of dialogue between the two main characters about their feelings was a bit distracting and had me rolling my eyes when the guy kept being the one to bring up feelings. The dialogue was clearly written by a woman. That may not bother everyone.
The other minor annoyance is the American privilege. The heroine had a valid reason for being a bit ignorant of Vistaria's culture and did learn as the story progressed but something still niggled. (Disclaimer: I'm not American)
That said, it was an enjoyable read and I'll consider reading more of the Vistaria series.
Excellent book! Full of mystery, romance, suspense, and intrigue as people try to adapt to a different country. Finding the love of you life, being involved in a rebellion, believing you have lost, yet finding the courage to carry on. New author to me but looking forward to:reading more. The characters are well-fleshed out and you feel like you are in this same fight.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I freely leave this honest review. What a wild ride Callie has during her time in Visteria. No spoilers here but I will say anguish as well as romance rests in these pages. It was a very good read.
Fantastic book, I read this when it was called red leopard, this version is toned down a bit , but still excellent. Tracy is a fantastic author she is so good at description you could be there with the characters, I will continue on with the other 5 books.
Red Leopard is the first in Tracy Cooper-Posey's series Guns n Lovers. Calli Munro, an American has traveled to South America where her Uncle has asked for her help. She immediately books a flight to Valeria, even though the country is in the midst of a possible civil war. Rebel troops have been building in the mountains and the political upheaval is at dangerous levels. When Callie departs the plane her Uncle is supposed to be waiting for her at the airport, but he is not there. Callie is arrested after a few minutes and is at the mercy of the police who do not even speak English. After a while a well spoken man with political influence and a very forceful presence releases her from jail. Callie later learns that her savior was none other than the Red Leopard.
Red Leopard starts out strong with an intriguing beginning when Callie ends up in prison and Nicolas (Red Leopard) helps to gain her release. Ms. Cooper-Posey paints a very beautiful picture of the South American countryside. The descriptions of the lands and the Valerian culture are some of the highlights in the book for me. Callie is a wonderful heroine. She is strong, but she under values her strength. She doesn't realize how courageous she truly is until she is faced with the Valerian rebellion and the dangerous times they represent.
Nicolas Escobado is a very regal man with many responsibilities to his country and his people. Unfortunately, he was a little lackluster for my tastes because his duties came before his feelings for Callie. Because Callie is such a strong heroine, I felt like Callie deserved better. Nick should have been falling over himself to snag the likes of Callie. I also felt that the ending to the story was a little too neatly wrapped up in light of the heavy impending civil war. However, there are more books to the series and these issues might be address in the future. In summary, I found Ms. Cooper-Posey to have very fine writing yet the hero was just not to my taste. I have plans to read the next book in the series.
Found this book in a "discount/free ebook" email I subscribe to. I read all the time & I can not remember enjoying a book as much as I did this one. Strong main characters, well developed plot, fluent writing, a hero who is not a douche bag, a heroine who takes risks but isn't stupid, amazingly written love scenes, and oh the delicious build up to those live scenes! Can we say sexual tension?! It was all written so well though that I wasn't thinking "good grief stop with the monkey dance & just do it" - it was real, the author made it believable and makes the reader experience all of the main characters emotions. I'm reading the 2nd book in this series & I love it just as much!
I cannot give it more than 3 stars because it was told from only one point of view. There was a half a page of Nick's and less than half of Minnie. Calli goes to Visteria, she is arrested hours later. Nick is the presidents half brother who knows he shouldn't get involve with an American but the attraction is strong. Nick is trying to save his country as a revolution breaks out. He must try to get Calli and her family off the island before the rebels take over.
Joy ride with love thrown in. A civil war in a country that barely stands Americans. Throw in strong characters, love and intelligence of the characters is a must read!! I thought this was going to be about shifters, but it wasn't. This was even better! Nick , a bastard brother of the president, a even tempered, strong woman, Calli, become lovers despite the repercussions. This is a must read. I will read the next one!
While I enjoyed this book, it didn't hold my attention as much Cooper-Posey books I've read in the past. I initially had a hard time getting into the story line, although I ultimately enjoyed it - just took me a bit of time before I really got into it. Will I read the next one? Probably but it won't bubble up to the top of my TBR pile.
An enjoyable rollercoaster ride with a happy ending. The story really sucked me in and I really felt for the characters plight. Very 'damned if you do and damned if you don't' dilemma that was handled very well by the writer. Definitely worth reading if you want a story with a bit more depth. Recommend.
Good book. Made me laugh, cry, and wish I had a man like Nick. Not an HEA, but that is OK because I need more Nick. :) I find Minnie a bit on the blonde side, and I hate that because she started out great, but then her smarts slipped in the middle of the book. All in all, though, a great read.
Hot and sexy read! The story starts out with the two main characters trying to fight their desires for each other. They first come together after they endure several nights of erotic dreams. The passion is full force and quickly lived because war breaks out.
I really enjoyed this book. This is the first book I've read by the author that involves real people and no super naturals. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to finding out what happens to Minnie.
I really enjoyed this story and I want read the rest of the series. The characters are well developed and the story keeps you engaged all the way through.
