TORBJÖRN

Rate this book
During a time when men went a-viking and rumors of berserkers spread through the villages, an infamous sword maker of history is revealed…

Torbjörn is a man of strength, loyalty, and secrets. Isolated by the centuries, he is caught between worlds. The Master Hammersmith bears the scars of a warrior, has seen death, and even once stood at the gates of Valhalla. He hides from his bloody past, careful to keep the beast within subdued.

Kiersten is a woman desperately trying to remember her past. Her village was slaughtered by a band of marauding berserkir, her family killed. She managed to escape the carnage at the cost of her memory, and very nearly her life.

Kiersten and Torbjörn come together when she washes up on the bank of a river, barely clinging to life. In her arms, his heart, shut down for centuries, begins to beat again. Lust and desire stir a passionate love that burns hot between them.

What happens when their pasts catch up with them? Will his curse be revealed and his darkness comes to light? Can he protect Kiersten without exposing what he fears most?

I'm a proud Canadian in my mid 40's, and happily married mother of four.

I consider myself more of a storyteller than an author or writer. I love to delve into history; to drudge up tales of the mythological and paranormal, using them to create dark, erotic stories.

In 2014, as a personal challenge to myself, I started writing. And surprisingly, I discovered I was good at it. Before then, I hadn't written anything more in-depth than a grocery list. I still don't know what I am doing here (writing books), but what the heck!

Warning: I have a wicked (but not always appropriate) sense of humor.

3.75 STARS!
He fought a war within himself, doubting he could ever let her go.
What a nice surprise this one turned out to be!

First, I loved the cover, and then I figured out it was about Vikings. So I already knew I was going to download it, but then I saw it was classified as erotica and my shallow heart couldn't open the file fast enough. LOL.

I have no regrets.

Torbjörn was a wonderful genre-bender of a read; an erotic Norse fable is the best way I can describe it, with the Norse mythology aspect coming out on top as the main focus of the story.

I really liked its originality.

But like many 'fables', there was a lot of telling instead of showing - and as a result, as I was reading, I had the impression that the writing lacked emotion.

So color me completely surprised that when the story came to a head, I was full of anger and sorrow and *gasp* I may have even shed a tear or two.
What future could she have with a man like him?
Both hero and the heroine were interesting, and the way the mythology was woven into the romance was really well done, especially in the second half.

If you're in to Norse mythology and you have no objection to erotica, I'd definitely recommend this one as a very nice change of pace.

There was something about this book that I just loved! I think it was the mixture of Norse mythology with Scandinavian history and a little shapeshifting thrown in.

Torbjörn is a man of strength, loyalty, and secrets. He has spent millennia watching the rise and fall of civilizations and has finally found peace as a blacksmith in a small village. One day he stumbles upon a woman, nearly frozen to death, floating in the river. Without a moments hesitation he brings her into his home and cares for her until she regains consciousness.

Kiersten has no memories of her life or how she ended up in the river but she knows that she can trust Torbjörn to care and protect her. As the days pass into months, Kiersten begins to have feelings for Torbjörn, feelings that he can never return. When stories of berserkirs reach the village Torbjörn knows his time there is at an end. But will he be able to turn his back on Kiersten and the life that he has created for himself?

4.5* rounded up because I simply feel lucky I stumbled across this.

I was just looking for anything to read last night and this showed up on my feed. Amazon said paranormal erotica which kind of threw me but I figured why not. I mean who doesn't like a viking? What I got was something totally unexpected. I stayed up all night reading "just one more chapter".

I am not sure how to categorize this book. There are 2 main stories going on. One is Torbjorn, Kiersten, Ulfbert, and a host of Scandinavian villagers set in the 9th century AD. While Torbjorn has had a sad and lonely life he has learned much and is now in a protector role. First he has adopted this village and used his knowledge to help them be prosperous. A decade earlier he found and rescued the mute Ulfbert, essentially adopting the boy and teaching him a trade. Finally he finds and rescues Kiersten who has no memory of how she ended up naked in the local river. Eventually Torbjorn and Kiersten do get hot and heavy but it is no more graphic than many contemporary romances.

Almost every second chapter is from a prior time. These are filled with mythology, history, and even some magic. Although the setting is Norse I was reminded of some First nations stories. One need not know much, if any, Norse mythology ahead of time. What is needed is explained enough to follow. We learn about the series of events known as Ragnorok. However it is not a prediction for the future but an event of the past. We also learn about Torbjorn's past and how that has shaped him and why he sees no future for him and Kiersten. He is desperately sad about leaving her, Ulfbert and the villagers, and as a reader we can see he is correct about needing to go. And yes there is sex in these chapters. Some of it barely mentioned and other sections extremely graphic. I found none of it erotic. Calling this PNR erotica is like applying that label to tales of Leda and the swan (Zeus). Most of this section is dubious consent at best.

The writing style is reminiscent of verbal story telling and as such I had moments being unsure of the motivation of characters. Dialogue is not prominent. Normally this would bother me but I found it worked for this particular story.

I did have a few niggles but they were minor. Kiersten has nightmares and we are subjected to two dream sequences that were entirely surplus to requirements. And there were two times I felt her behaviour veered into the TSTL zone. I loved Torbjorn's relationship with Ulfbert but thought the scenes with making the sword were not fleshed out enough. Still these were truly minor complaints.

it was only after I finished the book and went to review it that I noticed none of my friends have read it. in fact it only has 2 reviews. I am so very pleased the gods of goodreads managed to get this in front of me last night.
