“My life was definitely smack dab in the middle of a monsoon season.”
Life for Kendra Ellings has been on a downward spiral. After walking in on her boyfriend with another woman, Kendra finds her ability to play the drums vanishing into thin air, and with it her scholarships to Beasley University’s prestigious music school. In a last ditch effort to rediscover her mojo, Kendra decides to try busking in the streets—a decision that brings her face to face with the gorgeous and flirtatious businesswoman who will change her forever.
What is it like to feel that passionate about something?
For Melany Crawford, routine is king. Her strict discipline and willingness to sacrifice everything for her business—including love—earned her millions at an early age. Now, Melany can’t help but feel like something is missing. When a projectile drum stick brings a sexy street drummer into her life, Melany thinks she might’ve found that something—or someone.
She was just a one night stand. I don’t even really know her.
Their night of passion was never supposed to be more than a one-time fling, but now Melany can’t get Kendra out of her head. How can Melany, the entrepreneur who’s never been in a relationship in her life, convince Kendra to give her a chance? Will Kendra be able to get over her fears and find love and music again?
Our Harmony is a 40,000 word, steamy FF standalone romance. It is the final book in the Pitch Perfect series. Each book can be read independently but would be even more enjoyable read as a series! They all contain a happily ever after ending.
Revised from m/m fiction called Heartbeat by Harper Logan.
Kendra and Melany are the principle characters in Our Harmony. Kendra dropped out of college after finding her musician ex-boyfriend in a sexually explicit act with a groupie. She experienced a major overreaction to the situation since she isn't really into guys. She also started having panic attacks when she tried to play her drum kit. Her work hours get cut back so she begins drumming on makeshift instruments as a street musician to make money. First day out, she meets Melany. Melany loves hot women and rock drummers. She asks Kendra out to dinner and she agrees. Their non-date turns into a one night stand at Melany's condo. Kendra puts on her running shoes and tells Melany thanks but no thanks going forward.
Melany's only relationship history is with her business and her computer work. Kendra left a lasting impression on her. She has never felt anything for her casual lovers, but she wants something or anything with Kendra. Kendra is fighting her own battles with desire and attraction. For her, being afraid of drumming and of trusting in love go hand in hand. She needs to heal the pieces of herself that she lost to her faithless boyfriend and her college music mentor.
Our Harmony is a tedious and lackluster romance. The characters are college age women who act like frat boys. I was lucky enough to go to college during the seventies and not so lucky to be in grad school during the Reagan recession. I claim no knowledge of youth culture nor the extent of homogenization between men's and women's cultures. Casual sex based on an instant attraction to hotness may be the norm for young women, but it sounds more like a guy thing. The nearly continuous reliance on profanity to prove coolness seems very locker room to me. Do college educated women call each other man and dude? All these idiosyncrasies seem better suited to immature men than accomplished young women. My reading of this story and characters did not perceive a believable transition from gay men to lesbians regardless of age.
Thank you to the author for a review copy of this book.
This is my first book by Harper Logan and while it was #3 of a series, I had no trouble following along. Down on his luck, I was rooting for Kyle from the start. Matthew could have used some deeper character development but perhaps I missed this by not reading the first 2 books. Regardless, a sweet story with a HEA which I enjoyed very much.
Heartbeat by Harper Logan is the third book in the Rhythm and Rhyme series. It is another fabulous addition to the series and my favorite so far. I love how the author can make me feel like I am there a part of the crowd watching Kyle, Byron, and Zander perform. I can feel the excitement and energy of the crowd and I love that feeling. I loved Kyle and Matthew. They had great chemistry and complimented each other. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Have you ever noticed how the more you try to be in control, the more out of control you become?
Kyle had been a drummer ever since he knew what sound was. Growing up he was “that drummer kid” to the people who didn’t know his name, because, even people who didn’t know him knew he could play. One day he travels home from college to surprise his musician boyfriend only to be surprised by walking in on his boyfriend with another man. Crushed beyond reality, Kyle is unable to play the drums, fails his classes and loses his music scholarship at Beasley University. Desperate for money after his hours at work are cut, Kyle takes a friends advice, picks up his drumsticks and unable to face his drum set “goes reductive” and starts busking in the streets playing on an improvised kit made of pails, tin and brick.
Matthew is a regimented mobile app developer who began making his first million before he graduated Beasley. His business plan involves routine, strict discipline and complete devotion to business. He has the occasional hook-up, but there is no room in his plan for relationships. Problem is the plan is no longer working. Something is missing and his latest product just isn’t what he envisions it to be. On his daily lunch break, he stops to watch Matthew play.
These two men come together for what is supposed to be one night of passion, but, as life would have it, one night morphs into something more.
This isn’t my first work by Harper Logan and certainly won’t be my last. I liked the introspective phrases and advice used by the characters as they move through the changes life brings into their lives: “My life was definitely smack dab in the middle of a monsoon season” - Kyle describing the mess his life has become starting with his betrayal by his ex. “What is it like to feel that passionate about something” – wondered by Matthew as he watches Kyle play with abandon and considers the impending demise of his own creative/business endeavor. My favorite is the advice offered to Kyle by his friend Daniel, which winds up being the answer to everything “Go reductive”. In other words, breathe, start over, go back to basics and move forward.
This is a steady moving, well-developed story which is the third book in the Rhythm and Rhyme series. I had not read the first two books when I received heartbeat to review. This book can definitely, stand alone. That said, what I have learned of Zander and Byron, two supportive characters to Kyle and Matthew’s story, I have placed books one and two on my to be read asap list.
An advance review copy of this book has been provided to me by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.
**Possible Spoilers** It was lovely watching these two characters find their strength and future in each other. The author made it easy to sympathize with Kyle and his hurt. We can see and feel the distrust and pain he still suffers from due to a bad relationship. Adding the inability to function as an artist locks this poor soul into a helpless, hopeless mindset that he finds hard to climb out of. When he finally gets to the point where he can play again, he meets Matthew. Both of these things give him a burgeoning sense of self-confidence that turns his outlook around. Matthew has never had a romantic relationship. He has satisfied himself with random hookups and one night stands and hasn't seen a need for more. Matthew works just to make more money until he meets Kyle. Interacting with Kyle gives him a different perspective of what life can be and how it can be lived. Kyle's influence gives him the impetus to alter his professional methods and goals and to be more open in his private life. Once more, we are in the character's mind and heart as he moves to make these changes in his life. Watching Matthew walk away from a money oriented goal to a more emotionally satisfying one was nice to see. As they work towards their successes, they also realize that they need to be together both emotionally and physically. Their passionate encounters are well done and nicely spicy. I can't stress enough how much I enjoy this author. Everything I have read has been lovely and satisfying, with bits of both sugar and spice, and neither of those too overwhelming. Rhythm and Rhyme has been a very sweet, enjoyable series. I am voluntarily reviewing the advance reader copy I received from the author.
The conclusion to the Rhythm and Rhyme series Heartbeat was wrapped upped in such a way that I was left feeling light and happy. Kyle's story was touching and sweet and full of heat. I'll say it again , I love the boys of Beasley and each story I always find myself falling for each of these men and the struggles they go through and the men that come into their lives. Matthew was a perfect example as he finds himself enthralled with Kyle and the immediate chemistry that is created, while Kyle struggles with the crushing feelings of self worth after being humiliated and is in a free fall of self doubt when the thing he loves most his drumming because a source of panic and fear. Guided by helpful advice and going back to basics to find the inner love self worth both Kyle and Matthew starts to open up and allow each other to become a source of strength. As the main characters of the previous books filter into Kyle and Matthews lives magic starts to happen and takes us the readers to a absolutely satisfying and genuinely fuzzy feeling conclusion.I read this ARC for review, and and The Rhythm and Rhyme series are must read and to get the best of all the boys of Beasley dive deep into the rest of Harper Logan's fantastic stories. I really can't wait for what comes next, and hope we get glimpses of all these boys and where they are in the future.
Kyle’s life has taken a downturn. He was cheated on by his boyfriend, he lost his music scholarship and his hours were cut at the restaurant he works for. Matthew is a self-made millionaire and never had time for relationships. Now he is in a funk with designing a new app. Their world changes when the two guys meet. The author has once again written a good coming-of-age story. The story grabbed me from the start and kept me reading. Kyle and Matthew are loveable characters, whom I could easily relate to. It is all about searching for your inner strength and moving forward. They don’t have to do it alone. Together they are better than the sum of their parts. In finding the other they grew in finding themselves. I was glad to see the boys from the previous books in the series again: Zander and Tyler, Byron and Marcus. All books are tied nicely together in this third installment. I was honored with an advanced reader copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this book.
voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book......... This was a very well written, and interesting romance. The characters were exquisitely developed, and it was nice seeing (reading about) a few characters from the first two books, although I did miss the second one in this series. Kyle is a drummer who has panic attacks every time he tries to play the drums after a professor at Beasley basically broke his spirits and never told him that he even had some hope that he'd be good at it. He meets Matthew, but he's slow to get into a relationship since his last boyfriend cheated on him. This was a heartfelt romance which was totally entertaining. They were two guys marching to their own beat. :) I love how Matthew slowly becomes Kyle's strength per se. He helps him through a pretty tough time, and I loved their story.
What a great series and this is the icing on the cake. The cover is great!
Kyle Ellings returns home to see his boyfriend and his faith in him is shattered as he discovers him in the act of cheating and life becomes a series of misfortune that seems to spiral out of his control.
Matthew Crawford is a disciplined man who's never been a relationship or experienced real passion. He became successful at an early age and is focused and disciplined enough to want to achieve "greatness".
What he really needs is to feel emotions.
An unexpected introduction following yet another reason that causes Kyle to worry sets them on a journey to a beautiful relationship and their HEA.
I'll definitely read this again and it's worth checking out the first two books in this series as you won't be disappointed.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is number three in the series based around the students of Beasley college. Kyle has reached the lowest point in his life . He found his boyfriend back home with another man which destroyed him and he couldn't concentrate on his studies, couldn't play his drums and he flunked out of college. Then his hours at work had been cut so he couldn't pay his rent. He is certain that his lack of concentration means his boss will eventually find a reason to sack him. He is drowning his sorrows when he meets Matthew who writes app programs for cell phones. There is an instant connection between them and gradually Matthew helps Kyle find a way back to trusting people again, to his drumming and also to falling in love. A beautifully written story with a HEA.
This is a sweet story with a credible amount of angst. Kyle is a drummer who flunked his music class and lost his scholarships. Hanging on by a thread financially, his hours are cut at the restaurant he works at. Finding his boyfriend cheating on him, losing his scholarships and having his professor tell him he was good enough anymore has given him anxiety attacks and has been unable to use drums since. Meeting up with Mathew, a millionaire who designs apps is the best thing that happens to him. As both struggle with disappointment in their performance, the also struggle with their relationship. Read how these two men overcome their obstacles to an HEA. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
Sometimes we cold let the love we have for others entangle our life so much that once they are gone it feels like we can't do anything anymore, that's exactly how Kyle felt. After finding out his boyfriend cheated on him Kyle can't stand the sight of his drum kit whenever he tries he panics and he loses his scholarship at the best music school there is. Just when Kyle thought his life couldn't go any more downhill he is on the verge of losing his job, but just before the shoes drops he meets a charming Matthew. together they both helped each other grow into better individuals who are passionate about everything they do.
"I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book."
The author has a way of pulling me into the world they build for their characters.. At times, I found myself saying, "I wish I could hear the beat." I thought the book was inspiring. I could feel the words telling us, that we can do anything we set are minds to. No matter if someone tells us we can't. That is the feeling I got from the book. Kyle and Matthew had chemistry and made for a cute couple. They had hot steamy moments in the book. I thought the book was well written and had a nice steady pace to keep you moving along nicely. This book is one of my favorites. I hope to read books from the author for a long time.
Kyle was definitely the more complex and fleshed out character of the two MCs in this book. Matthew, while likeable, was a bit one dimensional, and didn't experience any significant growth. He felt new experiences, having fallen in love for the first time, but his character had basically formed, and finalized, before the events of this story began.
I loved that the theme of this book was focused on the difference between strength coming from knowing who you are and the belief that strength means you can't show, or have, weakness.
This is the third book in the series and is a good read that has a HEA ending. Kyle is at his lowest ebb and his self confidence is at zero but he continues to move forward very slowly. Matthew made his millions but keeping himself there is proving difficult. Through a love of music Matthew and Kyle meet, neither feeling they want something permanent. This book tells their story and their journey to finding what they are missing. It's an easy, enjoyable read and well worth it. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
While I enjoyed this story and the underlying message behind it - reaching for and achieving your dreams despite your fears and failures - part of me felt confused. Matthew was supposed to be this commitment-phobe playboy, but that fact was barely glossed over, yet Kyle somehow knew. There were just enough open holes in this to make it feel incomplete But the overall story was really good. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy.
Beautiful. Two men finding the greatness each have been striving for only to realize that the greatness they're looking for is in the love they found in each other. They healed one another by letting go and going back to the basics. Sometimes starting from scratch is the best way. Must read to find out what I'm talking about. 😊
I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book and will definitely recommend it.
This a sweet story, romantic and light. I enjoy the way the author link the characters of all three books, how music unite them and no matter How different the musicians partners are they shared the passion, hope and success. Kendra is a drummer and Melany is a computer coder genius, and their story flowed do natural and Intense, is worth reading. I've read all the books from the author and never got disappointed.
A quick and fairly light read. Fear and passion and ambition collide to help these two find and fall for each other. I liked the story but it was a distant liking since I had trouble really connecting fully with the main characters. I still would definitely recommend this book. ***I decided to review an ARC of this book.***
This is a very well written story about finding love despite fighting the attraction. This is the third book in the series, but each can be read as a stand alone. The characters are well developed and the storyline flows along easily. If you like lesbian love stories with happy endings, put this book, this series, on your must read list.
Such a wonderful story. I haven't read the other two books in this series so I was very happy that when reading this I wasn't lost. Kyle was such a great character with lots of growth happening. Matthew the other MC was a rock and perfect for Kyle.
Great weekend read. It's a sweet and relatively quick book. The characters are well thought out. The plot isn't overly convoluted, but takes the reader on a journey with plenty of twists. Another hit for Harper Logan.
This is a case of insta-love not written convincingly or well. The writing itself is up to the author's usual standard, but feels rushed and almost written as an afterthought, or an unwanted and unplanned addition, rather than a third in a series.
The third book in the Pitch Perfect series may be my favorite. The chemistry between the two leading ladies is fantastic and the characters themselves are wonderful. I look forward to more volumes in the series, if they are forthcoming.
Melany and Kendra met by chance. You know the drill. But I was a little disappointed in the ending. I would have been nice to know what happened with both the main characters. Sum it up a bit more.
Kyle and Matthew are perfect for each other. They meet at just the right time to help get them where they need to be. And yes, it is set in Rosebridge so you know I am going to love it.
