Rate this book

THE BLOCKBUSTING, BESTSELLING CRIME SERIES WITH MORE THAN 250,000 COPIES SOLD AROUND THE WORLD

This exclusive, limited edition box set includes the fourth, fifth and sixth books in the bestselling Knight & Culverhouse crime thriller series plus an exclusive prequel novella.

ROUGH JUSTICE

When a man is found dead, mutilated in his house, DS Wendy Knight and DCI Jack Culverhouse soon realise that Jeff Brelsford was killed for one reason: he was a paedophile.

As Wendy does her job and tries to find the killer, Culverhouse is less keen. As far as he's concerned, this is justice.

With Culverhouse's attitude and stubbornness leaving him on the sidelines, Wendy delves deeper into the dark and murky world of Jeff Brelsford, and what she discovers is enough to shock her to her core.

Could it be that the killer was someone very close to home... a police officer?

IN TOO DEEP

DS Wendy Knight has endured both tragedy and pain in her short time with Mildenheath CID's murder squad. Her grizzled partner DCI Jack Culverhouse has seen it all. But neither of them is prepared for a case without a single lead.

A journalist with her finger on the pulse of Mildenheath’s corrupt underbelly is beaten within an inch of her life. With a comatose victim and a defenseless child as the only witness, Knight & Culverhouse must reveal the horrifying truth before the ruthless killer comes back to finish the job.

IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER

Father Joseph Kümmel is not just a deeply religious and spiritual man. He's the leader of a closed religious community at Hilltop Farm — one which kills members who want to leave.

When someone manages to get messages to DCI Jack Culverhouse and DS Wendy Knight about the goings-on at Hilltop Farm, they begin to uncover a web of dark deception and murderous intent. With a distinct lack of evidence and a community distrustful of the police, they’re left fighting against the odds.

The stakes are raised when their attempts to charge Father Joseph are blocked by higher powers. Will they be able to uncover the truth in time to stop his plans for a far more sinister fate for the residents of Hilltop Farm?

THE ROOKIE

An exclusive prequel novella

1981. Jack Culverhouse reports for his first day at Mildenheath CID, and quickly learns that this job isn't quite what he thought.

Left to make a crucial decision, Jack opts for the wrong choice and a dangerous criminal looks set to walk free. Needing a minor miracle to save his career from ending on his first day, Jack realises he's going to need to crack the case alone.

Knight to the fore

Second series of Culverhouse & Knight stories I have read. Very enjoyable, in the first three novels it was Jack Culverhouse leading from the front. However in these next three Jack seems to have taken a step back, private life issues, thus Wendy Knight comes to the fore. Knight is the daughter of one of Jack's former DI's when he was a DC. Wendy likes Jack's old school copper style but wants to be a more modern version. Here she gets to experience some leadership and as she does realises that "Old School" sometimes comes in useful. As always well written by Adam Croft, great characters that can only develop. Looking forward to reading "Vengeance" the next in the series.

TV Pilot

This Adam Croft boxed set of books 4 - 6 are a fine compilation of current-day, police detective procedurals provided an enjoyable alternative to watching the television. After all, who doesn't like well written fast paced crime storys that can essentially be read in one sitting. Though not exactly cliff hangers, each of these Knight & Culverhouse mysteries read like the pilot-script for a new iTV detective series; so much so, in-fact, that they reminded me of the "Inspector Alan Banks" novels written by Peter Robinson, which, did become a TV series. With story lines that take you through the investigations bit by bit; not revealing too much at a time; perhaps Adam Croft should consider pitching his work to the BBC or iTV networks as well!

Good buy!

I was looking for something good to read during this pandemic lockdown. I chose the first three box set and was pleasantly surprised. After the first book I decided to buy the next three box set. The unfortunate thing is that I've finished all six in two weeks! Great characters, storylines and believable actions too. I have just bought the next box set and hope for more of the same.

Great read from start to finish

Not normally the sort of books I go for but I have really enjoyed them. Knight and Culverhouse are a great team, each with issues of their in their personal life which they manage to overcome to deal with the crimes they've been tasked to solve. The books will leave you wanting to read more 🤓

Read the first of the three-book set. It was okay... but I was not impressed. The murder investigation went smoothly -- so smoothly that it seemed the author was thinking of other things and just going through the motions. And of course, perhaps, the "other things" he was thinking of were the relationships among the characters. Unfortunately, the drama of relationship between and among characters also went much too smoothly. There was no depth to any of it.

Maybe Adam Croft has really written some murder mystery/ police procedurals that live up to the publisher's hype, I don't know. If so, this book is not among them. He phoned it in, as they say. And really, any writer worth his/her salt employs an editor (or IS an editor) who won't let things like this get by: "...waiting with baited breath" and "If that's what he thinks, he has another thing coming." Seriously, these are comically illiterate errors, Mr. Croft!

Mildly entertaining

Ok to pass the time during the Corona pandemic but nobody could describe these stories as being well written.
Not a believable character in them and little knowledge of police procedures.
The bulk of the books are repetitive rubbish from previous books in the series, POOR WRITING.
The last one had a promising plot which fizzled out at the end.

A tired storyline of a curmudgeonly ‘old fashioned’ copper fighting against change holding is non pc badge close to his heart and wondering why his life is so difficult! Stereotypical characters in convincingly drawn even the plots are bare bones. I wouldn’t waste time reading these.

Rough Justice 4*:
I enjoyed this, I always do like these stories, though there wasn't anything strange nor startling in it, I found. Could have been a story I'd already read with the personnel involved the only difference. Though I course I really like said personnel in these books. This tale involved a vigilante out murdering the paedos of the world, something Wendy's totally against whereas Jack is content to let them "have at it" as they'd say over the pond ! I'm more inclined to agree with Jack myself. Someone's saving them a lot of hard work. Jack is right, they never change, they never get rehabilitated, so what use is it having them around ? All we're doing is waiting on the other boot to drop, aren't we ? The same goes for terrorist nutters as well in my book. They're never going to amend their ways so I'd be more than happy to get rid altogether. Wendy's attitude seems to have got very touchy-feely and she mentions about there being "a lack of understanding leading to ignorance" with certain members of society. That is patronising in the extreme and something the leftists like to spout......people understand plenty, the difference being they're just not interested. That's a LOT different to being ignorant !! I hope she gets over her liberal leanings again, soon !! She needs to get herself an Android phone as well, reading about the I devices automatically connecting to networks as they do !! Androids don't do that.....just sayin'......
I did look up the Dark Web and had to laugh that one of its uses is for people to override Netflix accounts !! There weren't heaps of errors, either, which was good. He wrote baited and not bated and got the odd apostrophe misplaced and one minute capitalised Taser then didn't but that was the lot I spotted. I'll be back again when I get to the other 2 stories in this collection.

In Too Deep 4*:
I enjoyed this but there were some errors in it as well, letting it down for me.
It was interesting to read a bit more than usual of both protagonists' personal lives in this one though I am bloody irritated with Wendy and how she's treated her particular love interest. Jack's latest news is very interesting and I look forward to reading an update on what's going on with him in the next instalment. I liked the new addition to their team a great deal, someone who's going to keep them all on their toes, I reckon.......a funny character with some tremendous lines.
I was pretty staggered that an investigative journalist would open her front door after midnight, even taking the chain off her door !! She deserved a whack on the head for that denseness at least !! I noticed they discussed a football player who built his own house, but when they'd visited him there he'd referred to a previous owner.....tut, tut....
He writes inquiries the American way for some reason in this book, call up needed a hyphen, he wrote day not days at one point BUT the worst error for me was writing manor and not manner !! Not a mistake I've seen anyone make before, I must say, but it was a godawful one.
The last highlight I made was that Jack was home watching TV and there was a news item on about street markets in China......right now that is extremely topical !! I'll revisit this review once again when I get to book 3.

In The Name Of The Father 5*:
I liked this one the most of this trilogy. It also had NO mistakes in it, either, so definitely a 5* read. Very impressive.
I really liked the idea of how one of the guys in the "cult" kept in contact with the outside world. How ingenious that was. There were some very amusing moments for me courtesy of our non-PC pal Jack...may he never, ever change. I had hoped to see if Wendy managed to salvage her personal relationship a bit but she didn't get a chance in this instalment, sadly. Ryan remains a terrific addition to the team, too, and it was nice to meet Mandy as well.
I loved how Jack ended the conversation with Wendy at the end of this and then in the little novella about Jack's first days in CID, I thought it terrific how he married up both his and Wendy's pasts....though I didn't like how that little story left us at the end. Perhaps there will be a story there to refer back to in ensuing cases ?

Another hit from Adam Croft

I have read several Adam Croft books already and these did not fail to keep me entertained as much as the ones I have already read.
The characters so e to life to such an extent that you can picture them and feel as if you know them.
Each story was really well written and kept me reading long into the night!
This set was given as a free gift from Adam Croft during kickstand I truly appreciated it.
however it would be worth every penny of I had paid for it.

I thought they were partners...

I really liked the first book in this box set but by the time I was halfway through the last book I was sick of all the characters, especially Knight & Culverhouse. I found their relationship strained at best. Neither had much respect for the other. I also found that the Culverhouse character completely changed personalities by the end of the last book. It could be I should not read box set because I was sick of the main characters and I had no attachment to any of them. I won’t be reading the next box set.

A great read

I got this book from bookfunnel. I didn't intend read the episodes straight after one another, but got booked with the two main characters and just read it through.I particularly liked the way the 3 episodes that make up the bulk of this happen on a very short timescale. I found the back story of both Culverhouse and Knight quite enlightening too and help understand some of the decisions they made. As with the other books I've read by Adam Croft, these episodes are very well written. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good UK cop book.

I didn't really get on with Culverhouse in the first 3 books. He seemed to grow on me a bit in the next 3. The stories were intriguing and di doffer some distraction from the personal life of Knight & Culverhouse but I felt these were still add-ons to the narrative. I would have preferred more details of the actual investigations and less on the personal lives - especially as Culverhouse seemed disinterested in what was going on. Some of his actions were questionable to say the least.

Having said that I wil read the next instalments to see if the story lines improve.

Super Box Set

Knight & Culverhouse make a great team. Even when Jack gets on Wendys nerves, which is quite often. But, together they can get to the bottom of the worst of the worst villians. Adam Croft brings police life and personal life together this amazing box set. Not giving up on the chance of putting the people who deserve it behind bars, while trying to deal with a very difficult home life. Not to be missed!!!

My first encounter with the writing of Adam Croft and I am well impressed, I will certainly be back for more.
This hard hitting detective series is well written with some cleverly plotted twists.
Characters are well defined with diverse family lives mixed with the storyline to make them more believable.
The author manages to mix in occasional facts and references from the real world which works well.

I thought not quite as good a read as books one to three but still very enjoyable reads. The author, as well as telling us the main themes, also delves into the private lives of our 'Lone Rangr and Tonto' characters, which, some may argue, are simply page fillers and not of relevance to the storylines. I enjoy Mr Croft's writing and have downloaded his latest tome. A great value triumverate of novels which are easily read during this lockdown.

Brilliant!!!

Having read the previous 3 in the series I knew the characters already. Adam Croft manages to make the books work for those have not read the rest of the series by using brief recaps but not so much that you get bored of you have read them.
These are well written, interesting crime stories which are all slightly different. They don't drag out storylines, so you want to keep reading to see if you're right. Looking forward to more. 😁

I quite enjoyed this box set, some workmanlike stories and reasonably well written. Some of the outcomes were a tad obvious quite early, but still presented puzzles that needed solving.
As I was reading, I did think that more of the text was padding than was necessary for the story - asides mainly.
The prequel was good, and painted some good background.
Overall, if you like straightforward police procedural fiction with characters that have difficulties, you will probably enjoy the series.

Very good book.

As always Adam Croft writes a good well put together storyline. The characters are believable and become more real as you read more of the series. His grammar is usually good and he weaves a story you really want to finish.
His books are high on my reading list, they can also be read again and again.

This book took me forever to finish, but I don't like to leave a book half-read. I was bored with it, not so much the stories, but the repeating, whole pages to talk about what goes on in one of the character's head again. I ended up skipping a few pages just to get on with the story and finish it.

Getting better

Having read and not been thrilled by a previous book by this author I was glad I decided to give him another go. Hi style is obviously about the journey and not the destination . It seemed at first the book ended before the story finished but having read more it is just his style.

I think we have a winner. These books were really good, I enjoyed all of them. Which is unusual as I find with boxed sets of the books doesn't really end up being as good as the others but not so with this set, they were all really great. I can't wait to read more from this new to me author. The stories were all good(not too gruesome)just enough.

Modern realistic harrowing police stories

Incredibly well written books of English police action. Never predictable, always fast moving with such realistic action that you actually feel you are part of it. Also, modern technology and situations, make them perfect.

Great set, good characters

Good detective stories with likeable character s. If not very pc lol. Particularly liked the novels at the end showing Culverhouse in his youth, where the stories began. A very good read. And thanks for the lockdown deal x
