Rate this book
Riveting ! A political thriller ripped from the cultural angst of today.

Our fears are what predisposeus to manipulation , and there are somewho will opportunely fan the flames of those fears to further their owninterests.

When the unthinkable becomes the reality, one often falls prey to the easy explanations as opposed to the sinister reasonsbehind the change. Read the entire NewHaven Trilogy to find out!

Aspirations choose ourpath, however our response to life's obstacles is mostly forged from the slagof desperation. We see their specters building on the horizon, all too often, choosingto believe they don't exist. Tee and Emma Haskins now know those obstacles arethere, the question is, can they live with them.

It wasn't until 2017that Tee Haskins had to confront those obstacles, the issues that had beenneatly packed away for twenty-seven years. His position as a Church Pastor inthe college town where his wife Emma taught, helped him forget the alienationfrom his family long before they were married and the success of their son, asan up and coming attorney, validated the fact that life was good. Good, that is,until their world fell apart, a world that wasn't as accepting as they had cometo believe - a world that said they had to be separated - a world that was notall of what it seemed to be - a world that tore open the wounds long thoughthealed.

Recent racial tensionshad galvanized public sentiment around those who promised restoration of order, yet it is within the illicit cohabitation of fear and protection that fascismis always born. Wanting the riots to stop and tension to ease, no oneenvisioned the ramifications of the sought after solutions or the speed inwhich they were implemented, especially since it had been barely over a yearsince the 2016 elections.

Separatism wascertainly not considered a blueprint for social justice, or at least that'swhat everyone thought.  Everyone that is,except the scheming elected officials who railroaded the legislation by dupingthe American people and the few dedicated souls that knew it and kept up thefight to undo the resulting injustice - the few who had lost the most. Tee, hisbest friend and a group of strangers connected only by the internet keptpressing forward, determined to succeed at any cost - they had to let othersknow the truth if they ever stood a chance of putting their own lives backtogether.

The Bliss of Ignorance leaves the reader with the unsettledfeeling one gets when fiction skirts too close to reality and keeps themengaged as the characters struggle through this improbable turn of events.Racial tensions, political intrigue, passion, loss, and the strength ofpersonal character are all uniquely blended to connect us to the story and itsparticipants as Tee and Emma model the kind of love and commitment many of uswish for.

This was a good book. It was a great mystery, thriller, and suspense book. “Dylan read the day’s news on his iPhone, sitting across the kitchen table from his mother who was equally occupied with its predecessor, the newspaper. Her salad and half eaten salmon stared back at her as if to say, ‘you can’t hide this forever.’” Their was a lot of manipulation and deceit within this book. This battles some deception between Tess and Emma. Even though the ups and downs their love within the book. It was a fast paced book and I enjoyed reading it.

One thing I was glad of is that it was easy to follow the two different timelines as well as distinguish between the two. I got the idea that there were some manipulative characters in this book - I wasn't the hugest fan of Tom Snr Haskins' attitude at times and I knew that he had something to hide; his one son, Fred; was unfortunately also a lot like his father. Rick Thornton seemed to be one of those insecure guys, and even though there wasn't much about the character Sonny Wells - I wasn't too fond of him either. There seemed to be a slight dystopian vibe at times in this novel.
One character that I did end up liking - though he seemed to be a slightly grey character at times - was Dylan Haskins. He appeared to be one of those upstanding people and I'm glad he came into the position he did at the end of the story.
Things aren't perfect by the end of this novel, though they are a little bit better than they were at the beginning of the book - but you get the indication that there's more trails awaiting these characters in the next upcoming book in the series.
I got a copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is a story that makes the reader go through very diverse emotions. As Tee and Emma Haskins, a racially mixed couple, and their family traverse a forced separation, due to newly established racial segregation politics that force Emma ans their son Dylan to move to a specially established community called New Haven, where solely dark skinned people are allowed to live, separated from the rest of society, a fight for their right to live in freedom begins, with the help of unsuspected associates. It is a very moving book, unleashing a variety of emotions in the reader in sympathy with the characters, whose lives are dictated at will by political and powerful figures.
The plot is very well developed, catching the reader's attention from the beginning. It takes the reader back to the characters childhoods, giving insights in their backgrounds, intertwining this with events that happen in the present, so the reader understands more easily who they are and their personal backgrounds. The characters are also very lively described, and their histories, making it easy for the reader to put oneself into their shoes.

This book was an exciting, thrilling, and suspenseful. It brings up the question “can your secrets remain secrets forever”?
The characters in this book are not really ones you want to trust because there is the underlying theme of manipulation and mystery. But while the characters are untrustworthy, the story itself keeps you enthralled.
I would recommend this book to anyone, but you will be stressed throughout.
