Gods are vanishing; their only salvation is bonding to a human soul.

My name is Clara Daniels. I was your average New Yorker with a degree in business and a need for a job. Everything in my life was normal; well, as normal as it could be with an overbearing mother obsessed with the Lord and trying to find me a man. Not to mention, dealing with the many chauvanistic men that dominate the business world of New York.

Then one day, I ran into Fate - literally - and my entire world was changed. Now, my normal is being the human soul for four, overpowering, disturbingly hot gods. Think Zeus, Aries, Hades - see where I'm going with this. Turns out all that mythology was true. Now, I'm the only chance these four gods have to continue to live and soon they'll become my only chance.

Unfortunately, there's a group of people that don't agree with this and I just became their next target.

Can I trust them to protect me? Or will they let me down like so many others before them? Only Fate knows...and she's not telling.

Great Paranormal Romance

Well this book is all kinds of twisted but in a good way. Clara had a messed up childhood that follows into adulthood. While dealing with getting a job she finds out she is bonded to not one but five Gods. Bring on the arrogance, testosterone, and egos as they all try to change her mind. The guys had me cracking up and I was so rooting for Clara's stubbornness. The world building is fairly smooth with strong characters to bring it all together with the story. I admit I am interested to see where this is all going. If you enjoy paranormal reverse harem romance novels then you should try this one. I really enjoyed it so I give it 4/5 stars.

This book is quite frankly, awful. It’s going into my DNF pile for now. My rating thus far is 2 stars ⭐️ based upon grammar/sentence errors, excessive use of “I am” and “I,” basic setting issues, storyline issues, very clear biased opinion of men without any real validity as to why, common RH trope of girl has a bad parent and may have possibly been harmed as a kid, is SO attractive to everyone she meets, the male characters (so far 2) look the same with brown hair and blue eyes, age of mfc makes zero sense given the backstory, etc., etc.

Some examples are: age of character doesn’t fit with her backstory. If she has her B.A. and immediately went to live in the dorms, she should be in her early 20’s at least. There is no possible way she can afford a car in NYC given her current career, or any of the other things she mentioned. If she works at a laundry mat in NYC, it’s very likely she’s going to have roommates and may also live in a sketchier part of town because it’s all she could actually afford. Also would not take her 5, 10, or 15 minutes to get to different locations, why would her potential boss tell her he expects her to give out sexual favors yet won’t have her sign an NDA until AFTER she’s accepted the position. The relationship the character has with her mother is unrealistic given the information available to the reader at the onset of the book, also the prologue through the first three chapters don’t really add anything of value to the story. I get this is supposed to be the background, but it shouldn’t take three-four chapters do so, and not that badly. The mfc comes off as not only sexist, but a bit of a Mary Sue who can do anything yet nothing at the same time. Also incredibly conceited. I’m positive there are lots of men who don’t want to sleep with her, or stare at her legs, etc. 🙄🙄

Fair first attempt by author, but they need better ARC readers who aren’t going to just give it 5 stars ⭐️ based on getting it for free/in advance. Many of these errors SHOULD have been pointed out by the ARC reviewers. Like her age, location settings and other easy to spot basic errors.

Willing to give a future book/series by this author a shot, but that won’t be anytime soon.

DNF Just no.

The writing is so rudimentary it was painful to read.

I was skimming through thinking any minute now the plot will pick up... I was so bored I started nodding off. Twice.

An editor is needed to cut off all the unnecessary observations. There are a lot.

Also if the MCs mother had been so awful to the heroine growing up..... Why go to college then move back to live 5 minutes away from the same woman???? Make sense to me.

Clara's childhood was not pretty; abandoned by her father and left with a mom who neglected her for pills and men. By the time her mom found a religious man and settled down Clara was ready to graduate and move out on her own. Now she's got a business degree, lives on her own, and is job hunting. She has plans for her life and these plans do not include a husband and children, at least anytime soon. However, Fate steps in, literally. A seemingly random encounter with a strange woman in the park leads to Clara's life changing paths forever. She has been chosen to be the Balance or Bonded of 5 powerful gods, Eros, Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, and Ra. Gods are no longer worshipped, people think they are myths so Fate much find a human soul to bond with them in order for them to remain in existence. To complicate matters more there is a Titan led group determined to destroy the bonds so that the gods go extinct. Now the woman who didn't even want a human boyfriend needs to figure out what to do with 5 overbearing gods for all of eternity.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I love the god-bonding concept and love the opponent they must face. But I had a hard time with the first half of the book. It started out promising when Clara was 12, but when it jumped forward I started having a few issues. The writing was choppy and a bit simplistic. I was not a fan of Clara. Too prickly. I understand her trust issues and her focus being work-related after the instability of her childhood. I don't understand the secrecy of her past and the continuing relationship with her mom. If someone makes you miserable and act ugly yourself, why have anything to do with them? I didn't understand her hatred of males or like the over-generalization with all men being sex-demanding pigs. Her childhood experience with ugly men was all her mother's fault, not all of mankind. I liked most of the gods, especially Hades and Ra. Zeus did not make a great first impression with me. I did have a hard time understanding why the guys would seem as fond of Clara as they did outside of the bond. She was mostly rude, mean, and unaccepting of them. Again, I could have understood shock, confusion, worry, reluctance, but she veered towards plain nastiness. This all changed halfway through the book. As Clara started to soften to the guys I warmed up to her. The plushie moment was when I started liking her and began believing in the relationships.

I have a few questions: Why was there such focus on Rex? It felt like he was going to be important but there was no follow-up. Why was Hope made to seem sketchy at times? And WHY with 5 gods wanting to bond was Clara allowed to be alone and assaulted twice??

Despite my early reservations, I did enjoy this book. It really hooked me by the end and I look forward to seeing how Clara changes and the relationships progress. I want to get to know the gods more. They each have such vast histories. That's a lot of baggage to bring into their relationship! I enjoy the idea of ancient gods in contemporary times trying to win over a modern girl. I hope the focus stays on the Bond-group moving forward together.

This book contained common elements from a handful of different stories I've read in the past couple of years. But they're combined in a way that presents a whole new world.

Clara hasn't had the best life. Her mother didn't provide her with the best childhood. Since growing up very independent and not all that trusting her mother has since 'found God'. She's tried to push this belief upon her daughter (and stepdaughter). Along with some other, shall we say, twisted life views.

Clara just wants to live her life, sans any romantic entanglements, and work in business with her new degree. It would seem all of that might be too much to ask. Between numerous failed job opportunities, thanks to sexist business operators, and a new, mythological twist, Clara's life is turning out to be quite different from what she dreamed.

Fate had other ideas in mind. Fate thinks Clara would make good balance for Cupid.... Zues.... Hades..... Poseidon..... and Ra. Yup, that's 5 high level gods that are apparently in need of a "bonded one" in order to continue their existence. It's a lot to take in. Especially when battling 5 arrogant gods who think she should be grateful and acquiesce. Not to mention a secret society that wants to prevent any bonded one from completing their bond so that the few remaining gods blink out of existence.

It's a crazy world that Clara is just beginning to open her eyes to.

Clara is quite stubborn. As we're told by MANY times by just about every character. It's not necessarily a bad thing. Though, it does get to feeling pretty repetitive after a while. Additionally, the bond starts to work on Clara "behind the scenes" and begins to weaker her will against bonding with the guys. She pretty quickly shifts from not wanting anything to do with them to being grateful they're around to protect her. It felt a little quick and forced, though that is somewhat described by the "bond" itself. Either way, I'd have liked Clara's to retain some more sense of her original self for longer.

All in all, the characters are interesting, though we don't get to know too much about the personalities of the gods aside from the arrogance and obvious stereotypes. Hopefully that's expounded upon in the next installment.

I was surprised this one turned out great because I had seen a lot of not so high ratings and not so positive reviews. They all warned about being distracted by its grammar and general complaints against the heroine. Gaaah. This is why I can't trust reviews/ratings in general. Most of the time, I always belong to the unpopular opinion group. Jfc. Either I love those books most people didn't or I don't love those books most people loved. Why am I liked this? Why are you guys like this? (lmao)

But I am telling you all now this: No problems/distractions whatsoever. Neat grammar and writing style. Idk whether I am reading an improved version of what but I assure you all in this matter.

Second point: I freaking love Clara. I think I have been on a slump, kind of, and I was easily infuriated by the characters and this read is the first one in the last few weeks.

Clara is indeed stubborn, hardened and roughened up on the outermost layer of her personality, which was mostly because of her selfish mother and challenging childhood. She seemed asexual to me at first, or kind of indifferent to attraction. But then again all her life, she only had dubious connections/relationship with men so there's that.

But enough of what others, and sometimes what Clara herself, see. I noticed how truly kind and sweet she is to those people she held close to her heart. She always considered their circumstances and she always went beyond generous when helping them. She gives a lot of fucks to people who matter to her. That is the Clara I see.

And how I love her interactions with her bonded Gods. She was locked up tight and kept to herself but was reasonable even during pressured times.

The gods were comical. If I ever imagine how would Gods walk around here on earth, I'd really imagine them right the way they are. Arrogance that knows no bounds but at the same time outrageously in need of humanity, you know?

This read is so underrated and definitely deserves more positive reviews and ratings!

4 Greeks and an Egyptian, to bad it also includes a whiner

Hard for me to rate. So I loved how this book started out, I'm a sucker for strong women characters and that's what we got with this book. Clara was super enjoyable in the beginning, and the storyline was just super awesome, but as you read on Clara becomes very annoying and bratty, and if that's not enough she also is constantly repeating herself. Talking about this great life she's going to have, and being bonded is stopping her, which in reality she's got zilch going on for herself and needs a reality check in that department. She keeps saying she's stubborn, and that's her favorite excuse for her behavior but when they buy her food or bring her a gifts, it's only then that she looks at them in a different light. By the end of the book I just didn't really care for the development of her character what so ever, and in a way I felt bad for the poor guys having to be tied down to that hot mess. I'm sadden because this book could have been amazing. 65% of it was her repeating and whining about stuff, " with a whoa is me" feeling. And the ending just seemed super rushed, because like I said the author took to much time making Clara a big diaper baby then heading with a more positive play of events. No I don't think this should be a instant love affair, but I'm all about character consistency, and there are many ways to keep her character positive and strong while keeping the guys at bay rather then what was put in this book

Not Expected

This cover is absolutely gorgeous and drew me in immediately. I loved the idea of a woman being bonded to gods and not just any god, but some BIG ones.

It had amazing potential, but it didn't turn out as good as I expected. I've never read a book where I hated the MC so much it actually took away from the book itself, but that's the case here. Cara was extremely immature and whined the entire book. I couldn't get past her constantly complaining about her life and how much she hated her surroundings o my to reject the gods because she wanted to live her life and be independent. She went to an interview and before it she pointed out that basically men were sleazy and she expected to be objectified, but when it actually happened she was surprised.

It seemed like the author spent more time on little daily tasks than she did on the actual plot and character development. I didn't get a true feel for the gods, which is sad because I wanted so much more from them and I don't believe for a minute five major gods couldn't make the connection between Denvers and his brother. Also, constantly pointing out Cara being stubborn was too much. I didn't get stubborn from her character, I got bratty.

I'm not sure if I'll read the next book. I want to see growth, but I'm undecided.

This book is horrible. I never write reviews but I have to say that this is just a horrible representation of a strong woman. As one example, these men are trying to build a relationship with her but have no comment as she explains that ‘the CEO who conducted my interview propositioned me. My mother thinks I should accept it and sleep with him if I want to ever get a job’. The response by Zeus is ‘I mean, that if you are going to sleep with anyone, it is one of the five of us.' WTF. There is no character development and no foundation for a good relationship if this is the expected responses. Geezzzz we really need to rethink how manipulation is shown in this book as it is a thin line between rape and sexual coercion (persistent attempts to have sexual contact with someone who has already refused).

I did not give up straight away but I repeat Sexual Coercion should not be accepted as a norm.

I’m usually a huge fan of characters with a difficult childhood and I love seeing them overcome their past and learn to trust again. But I had some trouble connecting with Clara, I know she was supposed to be stubborn but she’s an educated woman who should be able to make rational decisions. Well at least that’s what I would have liked in the story.
But the story isn’t bad because of this, I really liked the different gods and would love to read more about them and the world they live in. I started likin Clara more as she started accepting the boys so the second half of the book was really good.
I had some problems with the writing style, there were lots of repeats and simple language. But again, the gods were described perfectly. It really is hard to rate this book, but I’ll give it 4 stars.

Great story

Loved Clara, she's a very stubborn woman who wants to make it in life on her own because of the lesson she learned growing up. I absolutely HATE her mother, I'd like to kick this b**** if I could. What a piece of work. Now on to her men. Eros, Zeus, Poseidon, Hades and Ra are the typical type of gods, thinking they can Gerry what they want. I love how she doesn't leery them walk all over her and I live the attitude. Though everyone she gets her way some things go wrong. Anyway, I cant wait for her to open her heart to them and see how the rest of her story goes. My only issue with the story were at times the wording felt really stiff, like using "it is" instead of "it's" and stuff like that. It did distract me for a bit. Overall greasy story and I'm excited for book 2!

Review copy kindly provided by the author in exchange for a honest review
The concept of this series is definitely unique and what made be drawn to the series. Whilst the book beginnings read like countless of other protagonist with a broken childhood. It's the adult Clara and her life that really gets this plot going. Clara is hardened by her life so fair obviously so she isn't the more agreeable protagonist that i have meet . I don't blame her for believing things as it sounds fair fetched when you see things happen. . However it works given that Fate knows better and despite the whole crazy situation with her family. She going to have the life you would think someone like her deserves.
This is where things start get to be interesting as the Gods choosen to be her Bounded are no ordinary Gods. In fact they would be some of the most recognisable ones in existence. They know this and what happens is action packed adventure with plenty of moments that you want to shake them to get their act together.
Clara, isn’t going to let them take over her life and control it despite pleading. The Gods may come off certain ways but these guys do genuinely want the best thing I hate seeing Clara fights things and this book ends with a bang as a result.

I like the idea that The Gods need someone, as whilst they are immortal. We know their stories from mythology. But this version brings them to life in a new and fun way. It’s a great opening book to the series.

Did not finish at 80%

Well , this was terribly bland.
To start with, the main character is one dimensional. She has a sad background, which makes for an interesting premise, but then she is just so... Meh ! She is just a' angtsy overgrown teenager. I just couldn't relate to her.

The plot is slow to start, which is not bad in itself... Except considering how short the book is. I feel like only longer books cn afford takin almost 100pages to get going.

The gods? Again, interesting premise with the selection, although definitely not original. But then, they just end up being just slight variations of one another, taking turns interacting with Clara as if in a lame video game.

Why I didn't finish? When Eros got slightly rapey. Nope, that was a no for me.

This book did nothing for me, and it felt like an effort to read it.

Overall a good read, and I definitely look forward to book 2. Clara had an unbelievably bad childhood and it has caused some trust issues as an adult. She's thrown into a situation that makes her feel as if she has lost control of her life and puts her in a tailspin of denial while desperately trying to find a way out. Loved the mythology spin and the guys are an interesting mix of personalities...look forward to getting to know them better! Not sure how I feel about our MC. At times, I wanted to reach in and shake Clara as her stubbornness leans more to unreasonable, and while I realize some of it is due to her childhood, it begins to get irritating. Looking forward to see where the author takes us in book 2!

The concept for this book is very interesting and I really enjoyed Clara and her 5 gods througout the book. However, overall I found this book difficult to rate and was up and down on my opinion.
Clara is a great character and she has had a tough upbringing, she is very stubborn throughout the book, but sometimes I just want her to listen and not be so stubborn. The Gods are all great characters and I just love Hades, Poseidon and Ra but Zeus and Eros are still growing on me. I think what I wanted was more of a romantic connection between them all. I can see this series getting better and better as it goes and am looking forward to reading more in this series and excited to see what happens!

For a debut book I think it’s very good. I can relate to Clara and her sturggles as well as her skepticism when faced with her predicament. Not knowing a lot about New York save for shows, movies and other books I do know traffic and getting around is a hassle so Clara is lucky to have a god or two who can teleport. I’m hoping to see her interact more with the animals at the shelter, almost secretly hoping the dog she walked is a hall hound! That’s would be a cute twist as it would shock the Gods. Over all Zeus is my least favorite but I’m sure we’ll learn more about why he acts the way he does as the story progresses. I have a great fondness for Ra and Hades and an unlinked draw to Posiden and I can’t wait to see where this story goes!

Gods are disappearing from the world because people no longer believe in them. Fate chooses humans who are able to bond with the gods and therefore keep them alive. Our main character gets chosen, but she is not thrilled...so far so good. Then she finds out that there is a group that wants the gods to die out so they try to breakup any bonds by killing the chosen humans. For safety she stays inside for a few days but then decides that "she isn't a prisoner" and goes out to lunch with her sister....
This is where it lost me. I'm sorry but someone attacked you in the street, so I think it is extremely reasonable for you to lay low until the threat to your life is neutralized. This was so mega TSTL I just couldn't stand it.

This is a first book in a new series. I would love to tell you all about it. However, I firmly do not believe in spoilers. I will say that if you are a fan of mythology then you may enjoy this story.

A rough start, but picks up as you read further in. I can't even tell you my favorite of her suitors because it would be a spoiler! I will give you a little tidbit that they are not all from the same Pantheon!

I am looking forward to see where this author will take this new series. There are also some hidden "Easter Eggs" in the book. Could they be hints to something of a collaboration in the future? I think so! I won't give any hints you have to find them for yourself to enjoy!

I really enjoyed this story, one human being fated to 5 large name Gods. Clara did not have a good start in life and as such is quite stubborn and fiercely independent. She knows what she wants, but it is not easy for her to attain it. After an awful job interview Clara is suddenly inundated with Gods claiming she is their bonded and they will not take no for an answer, but Clara is incredibly stubborn.

I really enjoyed the storyline, it was a little repetitive at times, but overall it hooked me from the beginning and left me excited for the next book in the series, the characters were interesting and the chemistry between them was very good.

Not sure

This boo wasn't the best or the worst boom I have read. Although I'm not sure about reading the next book. Its great that Clara was resilient and stubborn, but the characters talked about her stuburness to much. We get that sure has this trait but move on and it didn't. Their wasn't enough romance in this book which left it lacking as well. Clara reacted good considering she hadn't believed in gods before so her reactions were natural which I liked. I felt like the guys should have came together more and it was weird for some of them to have doubts and not want love. I'm just not sure about this series.

Good concept

Clara had a rough start at life. Older now and trying to make her way into the business world, she's faced with a whole new set of problems. Not only do gods exist, but they have bombarded her life.
I honestly had a hard time getting into this one. I love the concept and the characters are awesome. Things just didn't flow like o had hoped. There were some unnecessary details in places. I still think it was a good start to the series and I'm looking forward to see where it goes.

Love stubborn female leads

For a new author, Aspen definitely hit it out of the park. What do you get when you have a stubborn female lead and five arrogant gods? Amazingness that’s what. I love the fact that Clara doesn’t just give in to the bond blindly. She doesn’t want a relationship with a human let alone five gods and she lets it be known. She’s feisty and strong which I love. I won’t go to in detail about the book because you have to read it. I can’t wait to see what else this author has for us next.

I really liked this story and the characters. I debated between 3/4 stars as the writing threw me a little but thought it definitely deserved 4. The main character is a young girl with attitude and a bad childhood but the writing was a little clinical in places and her inner
Monologue comes out a little robotic in places. This being said I really enjoyed the book and would definitely read the next. This is the authors 1st book so I’m looking forward to see her grow as well as seeing the story grow.

1 for the gods

Wow I'm not sure how I feel right now. I jist finished this book. At first it dragged a bit. This is to be accepted to get all the info. Then I looked down and had 60% of the book read and I panicked there was no way I could get everything I needed to finish this story in that small amount I panicked I had to keep reading cause the story was building to epic perportions. Now I have read this one and I'm writing this review very emotional. Cause I need to start the next one. So I'll continue this review after the next book I cant wait to read it. Later

I really loved the preface of the book but the execution was unfortunately lacking. I tried really hard to get through this. There was so many repeated sentences that I was getting frustrated. I was both reading and listening on audiobook and sadly I definitely wasn't a fan of the narrator either. Im not in the habit of giving bad reviews but this book needs a lot of work. And it makes me so sad because the story line was fantastic and quite unique which is really hard to do in this day and age. so for that reason I'm giving it no rating.

I LOVED this book!
I tend to love reading about destined or fated mates and I also love reading about mythology.
So putting the two together is awesome.

The MC is sassy and doesn’t take any crap. She knows what she wants and won’t lower herself to get it.

Clara had a sad upbringing and it has made her closed off and she doesn’t trust easy.

She meets her guys and they come on to strong so she keeps putting them in their place.

I cannot wait for book two! This book has definitely made it into my RH favorites list.
