WORK HARD, PLAY HARD For the members of Fairy Tail, a guild member’s work is never done. While they may not always be away on missions, that doesn’t mean our magic-wielding heroes can rest easy at home. What happens when a copycat thief begins to soil the good name of Fairy Tail, or when a seemingly unstoppable virus threatens the citizens of Magnolia Town? And when a bet after the Grand Magic Games goes sour, can Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Erza turn the tables in their favor? Come see what a "day in the life" of the strongest guild in Fiore is like in nine wacky short stories!
Hiro Mashima (Jap: 真島ヒロ) is a Japanese manga artist.
He gained success with his first serial Rave, published in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine from 1999 to 2005. His best-selling work, Fairy Tail, published in the same magazine from 2006 to 2017, became one of the best-selling manga series with over 72 million copies in print. Mashima began the currently ongoing Edens Zero in 2018.
Fairy Tail won the Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen manga in 2009, and Mashima was given the Harvey Awards International Spotlight award in 2017 and the Fauve Special Award at the 2018 Angoulême International Comics Festival.
Un merveilleux spin-off.
This book is rated Older Teen for violence, limited nudity, plenty of fanservice (including a little S&M), and the horror of legions of Ichiyas. You have been warned. :)
In a variety ranging from heartfelt to dangerously naughty we get nine short stories from the mind of Hiro Mashima just before the final 2 volumes are coming stateside. I imagine this might be enjoyable for the casual reader but with a cast of epic proportions I can imagine the minute details are there for the fans that have been along for the ride after so many years. I am not going to spoil any of the stories but if you enjoy the regular Fairy Tail books get ready to experience more of the same. :)
If I were to choose a favorite part though I would have to say it is after Erza leaves the Christmas party in one of the stories. I hope things turn out well for her in the end.
If you watch the anime, these stories and chapters will be preeetttyyyy familiar as they're all OVA or omake episodes! Obviously the actual episodes are longer and have additional scenes but still. This first volume was a brilliant collection of humour and heartwarming tales. There's also a lot of fan service, just warning you all.
Remember how Makarov told the two GMG teams that whichever one won, could get the other team to do whatever they wanted for a day? Well we get to see some resolution to that and it's hilariously ridiculous. We get to learn some more about certain characters like Cana and Bisca which was nice as they don't get much page time in the main series. Welcome Home Frosch is quite possibly one of my favourite episodes and so you know...it was my favourite chapter of this volume! It was nice to spend some time with the Sabertooth members and it was a cute story. Then we have Fairy Tail of the Dead Meeeeeeeen, a hilarious horror comedy chapter, and Natsu faces off with Mavis too, aaaandd we get a nice dose of Christmas!
Some shippers will be very happy with these stories, especially if you ship Gruvia, Nalu and Jerza...just saying! There's also some fun background on each of the short stories that was interesting to read and gave more insight in to each story and how it came about and how it fit in and so on. The art as usual is detailed when it comes to buildings and backgrounds, and obviously...it's the characters as we know and love them!
Assorted shorts from a long-running manga series (62 volumes and counting) that I haven’t read. Despite that, the character personalities and relationships quickly became clear. It’s over-the-top comedy about a band of attractive young wizards. After reading this, I wanted to read the manga and/or watch the anime—not sure which came first.
Happy The Blue Cat - THIS HAS NO RIGHT BEING SO CUTE AND SHORT. SCREW OFF 😭😭 I'm not crying, you are.
The Fairies Booby Prizes - So it started, kind of usual. Silly shenanigans, whatever. Wasn't that interested. But the stuff with Wendy and Cana I just can't 😭😭 Seeing Wendy be an actual kid? And any Cana backstory stuff is good. It was a good balance. Also Gajeel Levy ❤️
Welcome Home Frosch - EVERYTHING WITH FROSCH IS GOD TEIR. I cried when he cried 😭 I'm not gonna lie, this is borderline my favourite episode in the show, and I just love Frosch so much, even if he gets lost all the time 😭
413 Days - This is another one of my favourites (as a huge Gruvia fan). So heart felt ❤️ I enjoy the ending though, bringing it full circle typical Fairy Tail xD
That Woman Erza - This one is still cool, but the anime did it better. Not mentioned that Moulin Rouge is Bisca should be a crime. Still hilarious, but just unfinished to me.
Natsu Vs. Mavis - This one is funny. As much as the bath scenes in Fairy Tail specifically are always so fan service-y, they're also amusing. And this one is so heart felt too, it's all for a good cause 😭
Fairy Tail of the Dead Meeeeen - This much much less traumatizing in print. I still have not recovered from this episode, but reading it was more manageable. #IchiyaVirusIsIllegalForAReason
A Merry Fairy Christmas - What is this even 😂😂 Although I will admit, that would be a very fun drinking game that I may need to bring to a convention. ANYWAYS I love Erza for this. Some of these are the funniest panels I have seen from Fairy Tail. And the last Jellal panel is beautiful. I laughed a lot at this one (although I will say, it's a bit cruel lol)
Special Mission - This is adorable, and all I have to say is GIMME NALU ALREADY.
Anyways, I really enjoyed this series of shorts, very amusing. I don't hate filler, but I do like to chose when I get it and this was nice for that. I also like that some weren't in the show so they were new! And the author's little schpeels about the stories at the end was cute too. Definite 10/10 read if you love Fairy Tail.
I remember watching these episodes in the anime years ago and wondering if they are filler. I started reading the main manga series in 2023 and haven't finished it yet and was still wondering if these were filler, and now I know that they're not, and that makes me happy. My most favourites out of these are still the Ichiya story and That Woman, Erza. When I watched the anime episodes of these, I thought they were hilarious and after reading these in manga format, I still think they're funny😂😊 Now I want to watch some of these episodes again.
Hmm probably if I read more of the Manga series as a whole I would appreciate this more but hehe fans probably love the short side trips with their characters plus...Happy really does have a positive spin on life!
So this is the filler stories of the anime in manga form. 🤔 I wonder if they are still considered fillers then. Anyway still good tales, especially the Christmas story. Nice PG dirtiness.
I have to admit that I deceived by the cover, thought it will be merry adventures in chibi style but I was completely wrong =_= Did not like most of the book..
