A funny, romantic comedy Christmas novella, perfect for fans of Love Actually . . . from the award-winning author of Girl on a Plane.
Love is like a fine perfume. The top note draws you in, an instant attraction, but the Heart Note is the true essence. Like true love – a great perfume should be a woman’s perfect match.
At least, that’s what perfume counter manager, Lily Lucas, tells her customers in one of Australia’s largest department stores.
It’s almost Christmas, the store is bedecked with baubles and Lily has about eleventy billion gifts to wrap and sell. She and her team of spritzer chicks are glamorous, professional and hoping they don’t have to wear the hideous red onesies and reindeer antlers the store manager has in mind.
The high point of Lily’s work life is Christos Cyriakos, ex-cop, security guard, possible Greek god. He's a mystery box she’d love to unwrap. But can she trust him?
All Lily wants for Christmas is to kiss Christos (and more), catch a band of thieves running amok in the store, and live happily ever after. Is that too much to wish for?
5☆ A Sexy, Saucy, Romantic Christmas read with a sprinkle of Mystery!
Heart Note is by far my favourite Saucy Christmas cover. I absolutely love the cheeky cover that represents the story perfectly.
Heart Note is Quick Novella, That is Steamy, Sexy, Fun, yet Romantic, with a sprinkle of Mystery and a whole lot Christmas Cheer. That will leave you a lil hot under the collar and wanting more! Oh and if you like perfume too then you will love this story.
From the very first few pages...i knew this was going to be one fun read, and I wasn't disappointed!!
Lily has just started her new job at Harrison’s department store on the perfume counter as a Manager. During training Lily has to take part in a trust exercise where she falls & someone catches her!
With no one volunteering.... The very sexy Greek God like Christos walks forward fully prepared to catch Lily! WOW OH WOW Christos has made Lily hotter than hot, the chemistry between them is red hot and she hasn't even fell into his arms yet!! Pass the fire extinguisher!!!
So when Lily finally starts work she finds out Christos is also the stores newest security guard. How happy is Lily! All she needs now is for him to talk to her!
I loved Lily, she is fun, a bit of a day dreamer, has alot of love for her lil Sis K.C Who I would love to of been introduced too earlier on as I think she could be a live wire! Lily hasn't had it easy bringing up K.C on her own. So it was great to see her have some fun and make some friends!
Christos is also a family man, he comes across as a little reserved and maybe a lil shy. He is very strong and protective. He oozes Charm and is very sexy! But one thing he definitely has, is lots of Passion and a huge amount of chemistry for Lily! But is Christos for real? Or is he hiding something?
If you are looking for a Quick, Very Easy Christmas read that is lots of fun, has silly costumes, some laugh out loud moments, quirky fun characters, a perfume that quiet frankly smells rough, a splash of mystery, some hot and steamy encounters then this is definetly the read for you! Be warned this book is highly addictive and will leave you wanting more!!!
I really hope there is more to come! This is my first book by Cassandra O'Leary and I'm excited to read more! Definitely one to watch out for!
I would like to Thank Rachel Random Resources for giving me the opportunity to read gem of a book in which I voluntarily reviewed.
Heart Note is a charming, holiday novella about department store life and all the havoc, chaos, mayhem, and hijinks that surround this busy time of year.
The characters are unique, easygoing, and engaging. The writing is fluent and smooth. And the plot is a lovely mix of budding romance, gossipy coworkers, festive preparations, attraction, chemistry, and intriguing suspense.
Overall, Heart Note is a captivating, quick, fun-filled read with a little mystery, a dab of emotion, and a lot of romance that is perfect for a wintery day.
Thank you to Cassandra O’Leary for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Lily Lucas is originally from Sydney, Australia, but moved to Melbourne for work. She is a Spritzer (perfume girl), and is the temporary manager of a perfume counter in a big department store. Just before Christmas she has the task of trying to sell the awful new scent ‘Heart Note’.
On her first day she meets Christos Cyriakos, the stores new security guard and falls for him, literally. After that first day she can’t take her eyes off him, and it looks like Lily’s luck might just be in. But is Christos really who she thinks he is?
Heart Note is a short novella of only 135 pages. I read it in once sitting, and whilst I enjoyed the plot, the gorgeous scenery of a glamorous department store and the interactions between the characters, I did sometimes feel like Cassandra O’Leary had tried too hard to make Lily sound amusing, which in turn often made her seem unrealistic and hyperactive.
The book is fast paced, which all novellas should be in my opinion. It has romance running through its core, with an air of mystery and some added drama just to top it off.
I loved the ending and I am looking forward to reading book two to see what life has in store for Lily and Christos.
A perky festive goodie with a dash of mystery thrown in. The story centres around a perfume counter in a large Melbourne department store featuring an adorable zingy heroine who is wrapped up in a smoking hot Greek security guard.
A good fun and festive novella set around the perfume counter of a department store in Melbourne. It was light hearted and just really enjoyable.
The opening scene had me laughing and those weren't the only ones, there are some crazy outfits for the spritzer chicks, some great descriptions of various aspects of perfume including the scenes and notes that make it up, and a gorgeous security man.
There is chemistry galore coming from Lily and Christos and I really enjoyed meeting both of these characters in addition to some of the others that work in the store.
If you are wanting a quick slightly different festive rom com, then Heart Note is certainly worth a read. I really enjoyed it, and already curious to see what will happen in other books of this series.
Thank you so much to Cassandra O'Leary for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
The Blurb : Love is like a fine perfume. The top note draws you in, an instant attraction, but the Heart Note is the true essence. Like true love – a great perfume should be a woman’s perfect match. At least, that’s what perfume counter manager, Lily Lucas, tells her customers in one of Australia’s largest department stores. My Thoughts : Firstly I just love the cover on this book, its not too over the top but you know its going to be Christmasy. It took me a little whille to get into this story but once I did, it was hard to put down and I just wanted to keep reading to see what happened. Lily Lucas, is the manager of a perfume counter in a department store in Melbourne, Austraila. When she meets the handsome Christos Cyriakos, who is working at the store as part of the security team she starts to develop feelings for him and these seem reciprocated, but things must stay professional at work. I really warmed to both of these charactors and their personalities. There is some mystery as to why Christos is there and things soon come to light as we find out later on. This is a fun filled, funny, festive novella with just the right amount of suspense, romance and action. You will not be disappointed, so curl up with a mug of hot chocolate and dive in.
3.5* I could base my entire thoughts about this book around that cover, I just ADORE it. The contents of the story were almost secondary!
This is a cute festive novella which has all the ingredients for a fun-filled read. Set at the perfume counter in a department store in Australia so it’s a bit off tangent from the contrived snow and frosty settings which makes a pleasant change.
Lily has a a million things to prepare for the season but hopes it doesn’t mean she has to wear the skimpy ‘Santa’ outfits along with wonky antlers that the management seem to favour. Her and the fellow squirty sales staff want to look and remain professional as they sell their wares.
No matter how busy Lily is though, her eyes focus on Christos the gloriously handsome security guard. Can the sizzle and sparks be kept under control … the chemistry and actions between these two makes for an intriguing tale when it becomes apparent things aren’t quite as simple as they first appear.
I liked these two, enjoyed watching the plot unfold, could imagine the baubles and lights brightening up the store. Heart Note was a bit slow to grab my attention but stick with it, it’s only a short novella and does draw you in unexpectedly.
Thanks to the author and Rachel’s Random Resources for my copy which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
This was a very fun story about Lily who worked in a department store in the perfume section and Christis that was a security officer at the same store. It was written at Christmas so, they are busy selling and spritzing perfume. Cassandra has written a sweet Christmas Story with quite a few twists and turns! The music is playing, the spritzers are spritzing and the decorations are hung with gift boxes beneath!
I adored this book - it is a really nice, feel good festive treat and it took me no time at all to read, I was completely wrapped up in the story and read it in one sitting!
I really enjoyed the story and the characters of Lily and Christos were great, I loved their interaction and was cheerleading them from the start - it is light hearted and so easy to read.
A genuine treat to read and one I'd highly recommend - 4 stars from me and looking forward to reading more from Cassandra in the future - you can grab your copy now on the links below and I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did- grab yourself a bar of chocolate or a slice of cake and get stuck in!
This is a lighthearted, fun, festive story centred around Lily who works at the perfume counter of a department store. There is, of course, a flirtation with a handsome security guard Christos and a bit of drama in the form of some thieves targeting the store.
I have to say I could totally relate to this book, whilst I’m not a perfume spritzer girl, I am currently working in a department store and some of the situations that Lily has to put up with I have also experienced. Christmas shoppers are crazy/funny and it does make everything a lot more intense.
Lily was a slightly over the top but quirky character, there was some interesting chemistry between her and Christos and some funny banter between her and her co-workers.
What I would say is that there was a lot introduced in this novella that didn’t come to anything, possibly because it’s the start to a series but some of it felt a little unnecessary, also just personally there was a lot of this book that I had to take with the proverbial bit of salt. Insta-love has never really been my thing, unfortunately.
Having said that it was an easy and entertaining read and I’m sure those of you who love romantic comedies will love this one.
It's sweet and fluffy and full of Christmas cheer. It's kind of like a literary version of marshmallow fluff: an airy, sugary concoction with next to no nutritional value but fun to consume just the same. Christos is Lily's knight-in-shining-armor right from the opening scene, he's always there to catch her when she falls. He occasionally behaves like an idiot but that just makes him more relatable, and lovable. Lily's sweet and harried and desperately trying to make ends meet to keep her family afloat. Like Christos, I liked her right from the beginning. Their connection is easy to see and it keeps pulling them back together even why they try pulling apart. My only real complaint is that even though this has a lovely little mystery taking place in the background, I don't remember seeing anything that would allow the reader to participate in solving the mystery. If you're going to give me a mystery at least give me a fighting chance to figure it out, because the only thing I hate more than a puzzle that's too obvious is one where I have no chance to solve it. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Shifted Sheets Book Promotions.
Lily Lucas is a manager in the perfume portion of a Macy's-like store with a fill in position as a spritzer chick when needed...not too shabby, but her dream is to have her own perfumery. One day, perhaps...but while she's seeking the smell of success, the heart note in her general vicinity is tall, dark, Greek-god-like, and...wait, where was I?
Enter one, Christos Cyriakos...Lily's own modern day knight in shining Armani-like suit from the moment their training class takes a turn for the worst to the final scenes of this little ditty of a story. I'll be upfront with you, he's a bit of a puzzle. One moment, he's all Mr. Flirty but gentlemanly still, the next he's jumping to conclusions faster than a track star after a title. You'd think a guy with a background as a cop would get his facts straight before making judgments, but I suppose it adds the fault that makes him human instead of godlike; I mean, you need something to distract from his otherwise wonderfulness or what a BORING story THAT would be!
In the end, it was a fun holiday romp filled with merry making, mirth, and mischief. The twist of SOMETHING BIGGER happening was unexpected, but still worked well for all intents and I gotta say, I did love that the ending didn't leave us in a lurch because really, a girl's gotta have some reward for being on the NICE list, right?
This is a short Christmas romcom novella and is the first book in the Spritzer Chicks series, although written as a stand-alone read.
The story starts with Lily on a training course for her new job as perfume counter manager, where in an exercise, handsome Christos catches her as she falls. It turns out that he is the new security guard at the same department store. Unfortunately Lily hates the smell of the Christmas promotional Heart-mas scent that she has to spray on unsuspecting customers and is fed up hearing the Heart-mas ad played over and over again, even though it is only early November. As she redoes a gift box display, she steps on a ribbon and slips over. Once again, it is Christos to the rescue, who Lily is already fantasising about. But in contrast, she prays she won’t have to wear one of the hideous red onesie, gold antler outfits that the casual staff have been kitted out with. And she isn’t quite so impressed when Christos asks her if she can observe the shop floor for anything odd. He believes there may be an inside theft job going on under their noses.
Plenty of humour and will Lily get her man?
A nice light funny romantic Christmas read, easily read in one day.
This is a review of an e-book I was sent for free. All opinions are my own.
I received an ARC through Shifted Sheets in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book by Cassandra O'Leary that I have read but it will surely not be the last! I was thoroughly enchanted from the first page and loved the relatable yet quirky characters. This is the sassiest holiday romance you could want!
Lily, the female protagonist, had just started a new job as a manager in the perfume section of a department store right before the holidays; always a hectic time. When she started she hadnt counted on falling into the arms of the absolutely manly and gorgeous Christos and their sizzling chemistry, new and zany friends, a store-wide mystery, and meeting a movie star face to face.
Christos, the male lead, started as head of security at the same time as Lily and immediately noticed her. Due to some job rules he tried to maintain his distance, but eventually neither can resist the pull they felt. When some of his job secrets emerged he had to work to convince Lily that, despite how things seemed, he could be trusted.
The story is short and fast-paced with lovable side characters, heartbreaking backstories, family, and true love all set against the fun backdrop of a hot and sweaty summer Christmas in Australia. (As an American that idea is both foreign and thrilling!)
This book made me laugh out loud, sympathize with the poor perfume and cosmetics girls, and get all the feels over Christos, Lily, and her family. If you enjoy feel-good stories with sweetly burning romance than this book is for you. Hubba hubba ;-)
When I saw the gorgeous cover of this book, I knew I just had to read this one and I'm happy I did.
Heart Note tells the story of Lily, who works at a department store as Counter Manager in the perfume department. When she meets the new head of security, Christos, sparks start to fly. They try to stay professional and not give in to their feelings, but who can resist a guy like Christos? Especially when he tries to save you from a couple of criminals.
I loved reading this fast-paced and sweet Christmas novella that is not only fun but also has a spritz of mystery in it.
What a fun little holiday rom-com! I'm not much for Christmas stories (don't hate me) but this was sweet and had a bit more going on than just the romance. And I'm always a sucker for a hot cop! Christos - whew! Such a delicious hunk! If I didn't like Lily so much I'd fight her for him! Both characters are well-written and their romance is believable with just the right amount of tension. The mystery/suspense story line was well-paced and had a few surprises. This story will definitely get you in the holiday mood! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book through Shifted Sheets.
I think this has got to be one of my favorite holiday novella rom-coms ever. The humor hit all the right notes for me. Lily was such a wonderful protagonist with a perfectly quirky personality that kept me compulsively reading. Add the sexy Greek hunk, Christos, some light mystery/suspense, and altogether they created the ideal conditions for a funny holiday story. In all seriousness, I have found a new author to follow, read, and recommend to my fellow rom-com loving friends. (This is my voluntary and honest review of an advanced copy of Heart Note.)
Thank you to Rachel from @rararesources and Cassandra O’Leary for inviting me to take part in this Bog Blitz for the wonderful Heart Note.
Lily has just started working in a large department store, doing what she loves, which is selling perfume. An added bonus to her new job is Christos the hunky security guard, who comes to Lily’s rescue on many of her accident-prone adventures.
As well as a hint of romance, a mystery crime begins to unravel in the store which hits an exciting climax just before Christmas. With everyone dressed as Santa’s helpers or in Rudolph onesies, it’s hard to know who can be trusted.
A delightfully light and cheery novella, funny in places, a little spicy and full of Christmas spirit!
This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews Thank you to Rachel for letting me be part of this tour. I really love this cover and that is what drew me to this book. It's festive with a little sexiness. I also love how well the title of this book fits both the genre and the perfume aspect. I have a lot of perfumes but I don't know the technical's behind it and I enjoyed hearing these from the experts.
At first I found this book a little hard to get into but once I did, I enjoyed it. Lily works as a perfume counter manager in a department store, while Christos works as a security guard in the same store. As soon as Lily and Christos met you could feel the sexual chemistry.
This is a cute, sweet, festive romance with a difference. I understand that this is the first in a new series so I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books. I hope these focus on a few other characters that we have already met as they seem very interesting.
This is a lovely quirky story, with adorable characters! A real feel good Christmas read :) Very well written with such an easy flow that you won’t put it down until it’s finished. Be prepared to laugh at the antics and the costumes! I feel like Christmas shopping right now. (Read as Advanced Review Copy)
This fun and sexy novella is the perfect Christmas gift - a sizzling romance wrapped in a mystery and tied together with witty dialogue and hilarious one liners.
Set in a department store in the lead up to Christmas, this is a behind-the-scenes look in the perfume department, and security. A light mystery, a lot of romance, and heaps of comic moments and sassy inner dialogue from Lily, the intrepid heroine, particularly in relation to security guard Christos. A fun, festive read.
Heart Note. I read this book through my ARC author and enjoyed the book. It started off slow and uneventful. Once Lily and Christos started seeing each other, the story picked up the pace. Christos was looking for bad guys stealing money from the store where Lily worked. Lily accidentally gets involved with the men stealing and nearly loses her life. This was a sweet romance story. *** I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else’s. ***
“All Lily wants for Christmas is to kiss Christos (and more), catch a band of thieves running amok in the store, and live happily ever after. Is that too much to wish for?”
Seems fair enough to me. Christos is appropriately yummy after all! This is actually quite a fun holiday season romantic comedy with a cute couple and a fun overall plot. Pretty perfect for the holiday season.
