Whitney Powers #1
Whispers From Another World
A strong-willed woman. A new cop on the local force. Two lonely souls find each other and embark on a paranormal mystery adventure.
Twelve-year-old Whitney Powers looks at the books on supernatural phenomena in a dark corner of the Granny Larson Library. As she stares, the bookshelf begins to shake and a prism-like flash of light blinds her momentarily.
Whitney goes missing for the next three days. Finally, a local patrolman finds her a few miles from the library. Her explanation of the incident causes her to be ridiculed for the next eighteen years. Despite countless opportunities to leave and end the abuse, she’s stayed in this small town.
Why has she always remained close to the Granny Larson Library, which is supposedly haunted?
What happened during those three days that’s forcing her to stay back and work at the library?
Whispers From Another World is a gripping standalone short-novel in the Whitney Powers Paranormal Adventure Series. If you enjoy medium heat romance with elements of mystery, suspense, preternatural events and crime-solving in an urban fantasy setting, start this book now.

Jason Paul Rice

One day while hiking in the woods he found an extremely old chest that contained books, records and maps that told an unbelievable story of a long-forgotten land. Jason studied these materials and created a fantasy world centered around the Kingdom of Donegal to escape everyday life. Now he humbly invites you to see that vision in his first book TWO HEADS TWO SPIKES. Jason wants to take you on a mental vacation to a land of honor and intrigue. He will whisk you off to a place of murder and manipulation that somehow escaped the history books. Come along for the wild ride, if you dare.

1 star for story, 4 for narration
I really hate doing this. I always feel guilty when I offer to review a book and then have to say bad things about it. I know there are reviewers out there that request a book to do just that. I'm not that person. I go into a book hoping to love it and I'm disappointed when I don't.
But honestly, this story just does not hang together. The ghosts are extraneous to the plot. Whitney is a random 'chosen one,' special for no apparent reason and far, far too perfect. But worst of all is the attempt an being a police procedural. Reasonably, if she didn't end up dead she'd be in jail for impersonating a police officer and interfering in an active investigation, instead of being given some vague 'clearance' and invited to work with the special police. None of it works! At all.
I try not to generalize. But I honestly think some male authors shouldn't try to write female characters. Whitney is so incredibly unlikable I almost can't verbalize it. The things she's supposed to think are important just make her horrible. Her whole life comes down to pettily rubbing 'her man' into the face of people who made fun of her. As if having a man makes her complete. I cannot tell you how many times I rolled my eyes, said "gross" out loud or made gagging motions. For real, if I hadn't accepted this in exchange for a review I wouldn't have finished it. It's that bad.
The writing seems mechanically fine, though I had the audio so I can't be certain. But its the sort that leans heavily on 'very,' 'extremely,' 'really' and far too many adjectives. Tiffany Williams did a fine job with the narration, but the story is an utter flop.

Did Not Finish
July 15, 2017DNF at 50%. I just could finish this.
I found the writing was all over the place and jumping everywhere without being focus.
The romance was a little bit too fast for my taste, I do not like insta-love. There is practically no background story on Whitney & Trent.
I felt everything was rush, like the parents meet the boyfriend for the first time and decide that he is part of the family?
I was bored with the murder investigation story, there is not enough ghosts.

Remember how I was sad about "Dragon Marked" by Jaymin Eve (thanks GR your insert thing isn't working) being hyper-sexualized?
That thing was a tasteful masterpiece compared to this.
The PG review: This book is hyper-sexualized with actual sex, insta-love, and the Mary-Sue to end all Mary-Sues (I've read fanfics for over 10 years, to give you context). It was an awful description of her. This didn't really have a climax and the last two or three chapters skip over a year to get to the "happy ever after" because anything realistic would be actual work on the characters' part and that wouldn't show how in love they are.
Whitney should have been thrown in jail for impersonating a police officer at the very least; she also should have been dead for her arrogance in meeting a drug lord by herself because "she's a capable woman and her BF/lover only told her not to do it because he's trying to protect her because she's a woman."
The PG-13/R review about The Sex
Guys. I've read better fanfics than this. It felt like it was the rough first draft that was thrown together; it was an interesting idea but it needs more editing/work.
If there's ever a second edition with a major overhaul, I'd be more than willing to try it again, but what it is now is now is a crazy mess.
Disclaimer: I received this for free after being signed up for the author's email address. This does not affect my review in any way, blah, blah, blah, we all know the drill.
Recommended 18+ for actual, badly written sex (explanation in the "spoilers" because it's a PG-13/R discussion) and sexual discussions, language, flat characters, and violence.

Whitney Powers is the strange librarian with supernatural interests who people make fun of until she starts dating the new gorgeous police officer in town. A murder happens in her library, and the ghosts give her clues on how to solve it. With a dangerous crime family involved, will Whitney be able to unravel the mystery or end up a ghost herself?
This paranormal cozy mystery had great potential but didn't quite make it there. I could not decide if the humor was meant to be over the top cheesy as it turned out to be, but in places, it was too overdone. I like the concept of a smart and spunky librarian having various ghost and supernatural beings helping her out with weird clues. The supernatural community has rules about how much they're allowed to interfere in the human realm, which would be interesting to learn more about. It was also refreshing to see a protagonist with a loving and supportive family. There's plenty of action and romance, even if the plot is bumpy and the quirkiness is distracting at times.

Whitney has been labeled weird since she was 12 years old, but now the ghost in the library seems determined to make himself known, and the game is on. The game itself is a cross between fairytale and adult (sensually explicit) mystery. Intriguing, odd, and oddly caught between the ages of teen fantasy and adult crime, it blends overly simple dialog—“you are one of the greatest detectives in the world”—with “super-secret” technology and humanly rookie mistakes. The end result is a curious mystery with potentially interesting characters and lots of questions—a series starter with much to come.
Disclosure: I got it on a deal.

I felt storyline was pretty light, fluffy and quick reading. Not a lot of backstory or world building in the series. The characters seemed content to just go with the flow and cruise along on faith that they were heading in the right direction.
It’s a bit Harlequin romance-ish but with a sex scene or two tossed in. I felt there was potential with the interesting concepts about how Whitney gets involved with the denizens of the alternate world. Enough so that I’ll continue to the next book out of curiosity. Long term, this is a one time read for me.

This book was a great unique spin on a paranormal mystery. Story was intriguing, narration was great. It was a "who dun it" with paranormal assistance. I would love to check out more of this series.

Quick Read
This is a different type of book than I normally read. More fantasy than just ghost story. If you want sex, romance, fantasy and mystery in your books you might try this one.

Did not finish. This book was so disjointed! Obvisous male writer thinks females discuss masterbation with co-workers! Sheesh. Huge gaps in storyline. First date then 4th with no mention of the ones in between.

If I could give this more stars I would-----I loved this book.
I have a new series to read.
It is a mixture of mystery, some places are sad, some places are supernatural and they all come together nicely.

Good read
I loved the idea of this story, it's like Aurora Teagarden with a paranormal twist. But, the delivery is lacking and a bit cheesy. Having a man write a FMC, really shows and the steamy scenes where laughable. The book was ok, but needs a female editor.

Ghost trackers
The ultimate way to solve crimes — get help from the other side. While the criminals may be able to get you on this side, most don t carry ammunition for ghosts.

K, so this is the first of Jason's books that I have read and we'll I'm definitely going to have to do some author stalking, needless to say I had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised.
The book has sass, paranormal activity, mystery, some intrigue and of course - a little lovin going on. The characters have been written well and the scenes are written in such a way that you can picture what the characters see and isn't that what a good book is all about, getting yourself totally lost that your reality becomes the fantasy at the time of reading. Pure bliss.
I really enjoyed reading he book and know you will too.

Tremendous fantasy that is also a cozy mystery
Absolutely terrific read but should also be classified as a Cozy Mystery as many readers are losing out. I only found this because I like all kinds of fantasy. She has always been the butt of people's jokes after saying she could see ghosts as a child. This doesn't stop even as she gets older. However when a shooting takes place at the library where she works, the ghosts encourage her to investigate. Will she find out who sanctioned the shooting? Mix in the Mob and a hunky detective and mix for a tremendous plot that will have you enthralled throughout the book. Great vivd imagery with the characters make this a fantastic experience.

Great paranormal mystery
You have done it again Jason. I enjoy reading your books. This is a great story with memorable characters and plenty of action. You might want to cut back a little on the sex and leave a bit more to the imagination. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great paranormal mystery.

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. I really enjoyed this paranormal story of romance, suspense, and detective work. The development of the characters was excellent and the narration was great. Tiffany Williams does a great job with portrayng the characters as the author created them. Looking forward to the next book.

FANtastic Book!
I was so excited by the story, and love Whitney and Trent. I can't wait to read Book 2, after reading the sneak peek. Please read this for yourself and leave a review for other prospective readers, as well as Has Paul Rice, so he knows how you liked the book.

Whitney Wins
Whitney is fantastic and sees ghosts who help her to solve a friend's murder. This book has got the lot, romance, murder, mystery and humour. I will be buying the next book immediately so that I can follow Whitney and her boyfriend Trent solve more mysteries.

Pretty good read with some parts that make it too much to follow. Characters are ok but this just didn't work for me even though the writing and style worked it just wasn't for me.
