Rosie Hepburn has come to accept that she is special with powers that are now manifesting very quickly. Recently on her twelfth birthday she received a very old book of magic. This book has been waiting for Rosie for many years. Rosie has now discovered that her father, James Hepburn, a botanist, is still alive and being held captive by witches. They kidnapped James on one of his expeditions abroad and plan to use him to bargain with in exchange for the old book of magic. With the help of Grandma Megan, Wolfric, the wood elf, and Trilby the mischievous faery they plan to rescue James. Uncle Avery who lives with Grandma Megan and aspires to being a great inventor is still blowing things up, and chicken rugby is threatening to destroy Grandma Megan's precious herbs. Laughter and mayhem abound throughout this second book of the trilogy.

I enjoyed the first book in this series so much that I wanted to continue on and read the second one. It has not been a disappointment. I love the home of Grandma Megan. It sounds like a cozy and inviting place. I enjoy the antics on Uncle Avery. The different magical characters add the fun and adventure to the story. Rosie is a delightful child. I love how she is learning more about how special she is. Now, with danger lurking, I can't wait to read the third book!
