Gabriel stared at the huge creature laid out on the gurney. Though hopeful that the bombing of the massive collapsed cavern in the Amazon jungle was the end of the nightmare, in his heart he knew it wasn’t. Cataloguing the creature’s fearsome capabilities, Gabriel could only imagine what would happen if the creatures somehow made it to civilization. He had never seen anything this large that could move with such stealth and speed. Eyeing the serrated talons on its hands and feet and the mouth full of long, sharp teeth, he felt a tremor pass through him as he remembered the horror of seeing his elite team literally torn apart by these bastards. Now tasked to lead a joint mission with a U.S. Ranger unit to ensure that all the creatures had been destroyed, Gabriel has no idea that the creatures are the least of his worries. Soon, he, Mateus, Libby and Peter will be swept up in a fight that could impact the survival of humanity. After thousands of years, the monstrous aliens that spawned the creatures have awakened to act upon their ancient plans – plans that don’t bode well for mankind.
Despite its flaws, I actually liked the first Creatures book. Interesting monsters and the aliens idea was intriguing. The idea here is that the aliens from the end of the first book have now awoken from their long slumber and are setting out to wreak havoc on earth with the survivors from the last story, Gabriel, Tim, and Libby, once again setting out to stop them. The aliens kill humans and absorb their minds which gives them more energy. OK cool, but where things start to go wrong for this story is when the author decided he'd let us as readers actually be able to hear the aliens communicating with each other. It's hilarious but not in a good way as they casually chat with each other with some horrible dialogue. Here's a few quotes from these apparently ancient and highly intelligent beings:
"All is well. Let us prepare the scout ship! It is past time for us to finally get a better taste of these delectable human minds!" "We will be rising again soon. I've chosen another busy intersection so there should be many to feed from" "Do we agree that changing the location of our next feeding to the Universidade Federal do Amazonas is the correct decision?"
These interactions are so goofy they killed anything positive this book had going for it. Combine that with another non ending and I've had enough of this series. Can't recommend
I really liked book one, even with it's problems. This one? I made it half way through, found out there is yet Another book after this, and decided to bag it. I don't often stop reading in the middle of a book but this was just painful and the thought of spending more time on a third book..... In the span of two days the characters battle the creatures, some are rescued and taken to a military hospital, wounds are reopened, cleaned and stitched back up, the two young Americans have magically healed enough for a vigorous roll in the hay, showers are taken, the doc makes a miraculous recovery after near fatal wounds, a soldier's mind is still alive but he has seen his own corpse, he makes an alien blink and his buddy sees it on tv......... My review is like the book. So much info, so little time. Horrible editing, (find out how to use quotation marks, please), unrealistic timelines when it comes to government involvement, etc. I am sorry this book is such a mess. I really had high hopes.
I truly enjoyed reading this, if you're a fan of Monster stories I suggest you read it. It was both fun and disturbing!! It has monsters and aliens. I can't wait for the next book in the series and seeing as this was only the second book he has ever written I'm excited to see how his writing will progress.
I couldn't put my kindle down. I loved book 1, but absolutely didn't think it could get any better. But book 2 was absolutely amazing. Couldn't get any better. But it ended. Gotta have a book 3 after that performance.. I'd love to read more of this kind of stories. Supberb.
ITWAS TO MUCH TO HOPE FOR THAT THIS SECOND BOOK WOULD FINISH THE STORY. I AM GETTING TIRED OF NOT BEING ABLE TO FINISH A STORY BEFORE I FORGET MOST OF IT. IT WAS A PRETTY GOOD STORY AFTERALL
