When my 12th results were declared I was filling tractor trolley with sand, next day I went to farm to water onion crop and in morning I sell bread daily.
This book is a true story of author and it truly reflect how life was difficult for him in his childhood and I found it very inspiring,i must say that this story gives you so much encouragement and inspiration to chase your dreams.
This story is new definition of self-help, inspiration and autobiography book. it is a perfect example of saying if you dream hard for anything you will surely achieve it.
The Book depicted rural India, where farmers is just sink in debts, moneylenders trying to grab their land when they unable to pay high interest loan. Farmers position shows that we have to really took strong step for betterment of farmers.
Other than farmers how life goes in a village where poverty was all over, earning two times bread is hard for everyone. Each member of family had to work daily to survive, how kids are also working as a labor in field for earned some money. It really heartbreaking how he survived and crushing poverty and with no available resources for education he become an IAS.
There are many good things too like children in villages lived their life freely and enjoy fully with no worries. How whole village is your family and all were celebrating your success unless they know you or not. They feel proud in it that a boy from his village become a collector. Perfect book for those who always crying we don't have resources or money how we study or how we get job or always blame parents or government for their failure.
An enriching enlightening read that triggers the spirit to achieve life goal without caring for the numerous boudlers that crowd one's path. A mirror showing the brutal truth of rural India, the social hierarchy that still very much functions in the countryside, the web of illiteracy and superstition that constantly challenges growth and development of the inhabitants. The viscous cycle of moneylenders, traders and Krishi Kendra officials that dominates the farm to market route constantly threaten break the economic backbone of small farmers. : : It's a tale of transformation of an errant village boy into a sensible confident youth through constant dedication. The disciplinarian parents made sure to nip bad habits in the bud and conditioned the growth of a hard working self sufficient human. The changes imbibed through the multiple experiences, the regressive environment acted as a catalyst for the author made him stronger and more determined. : Narrated in layman's language, he focused on the crucial issues dominating present scenario and their possible effective solutions. The company of family, friends and well wishers always nourish one's growth and plays a crucial role in influencing it's direction.
The book begins with the author thoroughly describing the issues and exploited situations of farmers in his village where moneylenders were the epitome of textbook corruption. They kept a tight leash on the farmers hard earnings. The biased thoughts regarding educating a girl child would result in rejection in marriage. This infuriated me beyond anything, the fact that a well educated girl cannot be deemed as good wife was an extreme point of orthodox reasoning.
Based on the author's own life struggles this book will inspire you to keep the ambition in focus and no matter how big the huddle is never let it scare you in committing dishonesty and something treacherous that will gnaw at your self-conscious.
Then as the story develops the author writes about how he had to struggle and take up menial jobs to support the household. Sometimes as bread seller and sometimes cotton picking labourer he managed to get his life in order regardless of the misfortunes and lack of opportunities. He also wrote about his childhood memories.
Maa, I've become a collector reads more like journal entries not necessarily in chronological order because the events goes back and forth. The last chapter was my favorite where his efforts and your hard work finally has paid off.
As the title of the book suggest , the story is the struggle of the writer's to become an IAS officer .
The story starts from the village . The problems of the villagers . Their daily fight with poverty . He has written about how the Money lenders had had turned the poor farmer into beggars . The society wasn't to agree to educate a girl child , because none would marry her .

As the story develops , the life of the author became more stressful and he had to work hard . He had to do soon many menial jobs in order to help his family and continue his study . This book is inspiring . The life of Author can be seen as a role model of Success. He has proved that if the person is focused enough he can achieve anything .
This book gave you a. Detailed account of. The author's journey from a mischievous child to ias. The village part is bit over detailed and in most of places author tries to over analyze and too much suggestions. Otherwise its a very good book for every civil services aspirant ans specially for rural background people who lacks confidence.
Last year my friend @Gyanend75037198 had gifted me @Ipsamitlodha7’s A life in a Uniform which provided a perspective on civil services whose conditions were quite similar to mine.
This book however provides a very different perspective- one coming from a rural and downtrodden
Admist all the current chaos and criticism surrounding the UPSC and this book was a great refresher of why UPSC still is the gateway to a successful life for many in India.
Patil sir in his autobiography provides the perspective of importance of this exam for someone coming from a poor and rural background. How hardwork and being able to clear an exam is able to uplift not only him but his village as well. On a personal note, UPSC I believe is a platform that provides a level playing field for anyone irrespective of various disadvantages to have power and run this democracy and at the same time uplift themselves to a higher status in society. Someone coming from various disadvantages generally would be a better candidate for this examination because he/she has a better practical understanding and empathy for the problems in our society. Something that an ideal candidate should be able to feel. Rajesh sir in his book narrates his journey from childhood till cracking UPSC, makes a point to note various problems that he faced or could see in his surrounding during his journey. He also suggests solutions to this problems which only shows his acumen as an IAS officer. Originally written in Marathi, this is written in a plain tone and simple to understand language. Nothing to wow you in a literary sense but certainly an inspirational read.
Maa I've become a collector is a memoir of RAJESH PATIL an IAS officer who hails from TADE a small village near Erandol in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district. In this book, he recounts about his village and his childhood spent in it. One cannot help but be humored by all the incidents and the mischievous acts of Rajesh Patil in his early years. Not only about his childhood and adolescence but also he shines a light on about his youth, marriage, office and social life too.
The accounts In this book about his journey of turmoil, hardships, and high spirits on the ambition and goals despite the difficulties is very thought-provoking and inspiring. After completing the book, one cannot hold back in appreciating his achievements and how he turned his life around through sheer Hardwork and self belief.
He narrates With bouts of zeal and vigour about how his family values, especially her mother's teachings on morals, his ambitions, High spirits and how the right people and the right influences had been crucial in paving the road for his success.
An excellent read, I highly recommend you to pick up this book.
A great book to proof that exams like UPSC are not difficult to crack even without huge resources of coaching and costly books. Never give up attitude which Rajesh Sir developed in his childhood, helped him to crack the toughest examination UPSC despite all the turmoil like poverty, grief in his life. The role of parents are so aptly described in the book and clearly showed how much our parents sacrifice for us. In the last chapter, his views on topics like agriculture, corruption in bureaucracy, relation between politician and executive, and motivating youth to look for new avenues like agro based industries, etc.
