A vampire on the run.

A shapeshifting bounty hunter hired to capture her.

Who will outsmart whom?

Layla Black flees London, on the run from a master vampire. She reinvents herself as Angelica, the singer of an 80s metal cover band in Boston, but her past soon catches up to her.

Devon St. Clair, bounty hunter extraordinaire, is in hot pursuit of a thieving vampire. Vampires, he hated them. Capturing Layla should be a satifsying gig that nets a nice profit.

But Devon wasn’t counting on spitfire Layla being his target, distracting him from his mission. Besides, shapeshifters and vampires didn’t mix. And more bloodsuckers are on their tail.

The hunt is on. But, who will be predator, and who will be prey?

Burn is the fourth installment in the Underground Encounters series, set in a club that attracts supernatural creatures. Each book features a different couple — and perhaps species! — and can be read on its own.

Romance: 💙💚💜❤️🖤
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌏
Character development: 🤐🤫🫣☺️🥰
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Layla (a.k.a. Angelica) - when she is framed for stealing from a master vampire named Stefano, Layla runs from London. She ends up in Massachusetts and hides under an assumed name and starts working as a singer for an 80’s heavy metal cover band called Blood Lust Diamond that plays at Vamps, an underground nightclub near Boston.

The Hero: Devon - vampires and shapeshifters don’t mix. Devon is a shapeshifter that hates all vampires. He is also the best supernatural bounty hunter in the business and is always up to bring in vampires that break the law, though determining their guilt or innocence is not his job. He is currently after a vampire thief named Layla who ran away from London.

The Story: Devon is confused when he first sees Layla, not only is she a vampire, and his bounty but he is attracted to her like nobody’s business. When he captures her, sparks fly. The chemistry between these two was explosive and they couldn’t keep their hands off each other. Though they were still enemies and Devon still planned to bring Layla to Stefano.

The story and the steamy scenes in this series have gotten better as the series goes on. This one was the best so far. I love the fact that there are multiple different kinds of supernaturals in this series. It keeps things interesting, and Devon can shift into any animal, so that is cool. Add into that the rock star romance trope and what more could you want?

This was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Amber Lee Conners and Kieran Flitton. I love Amber Lee Connors voice, it is soft and emotive and she speaks in a perfect tempo. Her male voice is also very good and at times I like her male voice even better than Kieran Flitton’s voice. Though I do love dual or duet narration much more than solo.

BURN (Underground Encounters Book 4) by Lisa Carlisle is another sizzling addition to the VAMPS paranormal romance series. When you sit down to read about Devon and Layla, clear your schedule because you are going to want read this one from start to finish.

Layla flees London for her immortal life. She has been framed for a theft from a master vampire, who does not believe in her innocence. She returns to America and reinvents herself as “Angelica”, the new lead singer for an 80’s heavy metal cover band.

Devon St. Clair has a reputation as one of the best bounty hunters for hire. Ruthless and relentless, he always gets his man or woman. Aided by his years in Royal Special Forces, he is also a shifter. He can shift into any animal form and every one of them hates vampires. When he catches up to Layla at VAMPS, he is entranced by her and her voice, but he cannot let that get in the way of his job, can he?

This series just keeps pulling me in and I have to say that I especially loved Layla and Devon! Layla is petite and yet mighty, in character and physical strength. Devon is all hot, tough shifter and yet has softer, vulnerable moments that appear for Layla. The sex scenes are smokin’ hot and steaming. The plot is not unique, but Ms. Carlisle puts some interesting twists into this world of paranormal creatures that makes them unique. This book can easily be read as a standalone in this series, but I bet if you love paranormal romances as I do, you will want to read them all.

This Underground club called Vampire is the best place to be, no matter what your reason for walking in, whether it be for a fun night, or for nefarious reasons, you will never be the same when you walk out.

Devon is the best shifter bounty hunter money can buy, he always gets his guy, or gal as the case may be. He specializes in Vampires, he hates the blood suckers, which is why he is so surprised that his target's voice holds him captivated when he hears her sing. When he captures her the heat she emits scorches him like no other and he is taken aback expecting her to be cold like all the undead. Will Devon be able to remove himself from the temptation that this gorgeous fugitive inspires, or will he complete his mission and deliver her to the ancient vampire that hired him to find her?

Layla and Devon reach heights in one night that may change the concept each has of the other species.

Layla made it. She got away. She was safe right out in the open. He wouldn't be looking for a Wild haired Rocker. Just maybe she'd make it out with her life—right---if you called being a vampire a life. She didn't count on Devon, a shapeshifter, a bounty hunter and she was the bounty. He hated vamps, she hated "dogs". Didn't they? Why did they have these feelings when they were together?
She was pretty good at self-defense. He was great at his job. Her life or a bundle of money was at stake.
The characters are interesting and both are hot. Their chemistry baffles them. How will they deal with their prejudices and their desires? You won't guess the outcome and you'll wonder about the inner being of them both. There are other characters involved whose feelings will intrude on the relationships.
Plenty of steam to keep turning the pages and a great story.

Another great book to the series! The author once again brings strong characters in Layla and Devon and weaves an action packed story with perfectly painted scenes. She takes you into their lives with an opposites attract with a steamy chemistry and kept me reading with the intrigue, suspense, drama and tension. She moves the story fluidly and delivers a terrific read.

She escaped from him and now is running for her life. He is a bounty hunter and was being paid big bucks to return her to the man she fears. What could go wrong? A whole lot happens to this unlikely pair.

I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book. This is book 4 in the Underground Encounters series by the author.

Vamps, a special nightclub tucked away in the warehouse district. Be prepared for the unexpected, the alternative and classic rock music, alcoholic drinks with fun names and a few shifters, vampires, witches and maybe some surprises.
Burn is the fourth book in the Underground Encounters series. Layla, a vampire, escapes London and is on the run from a dangerous Master Vampire. She reinvents herself with a drastic makeover. Her hair is black on one side with blonde streaks and white on the other side, and answers to Angelica. Who could possibly recognize her when you will only focus on the hair? She joins a band covering 80’s heavy metal hair band sounds.
Devon , a bounty hunting shifter, is tracking down his prey. It seems Layla stole something. He has always hated vampires and this should be an easy job. Get in get the vamp, return her to her Master. What could possibly go wrong? Lots apparently, so many twists and turns. This is a wonderful series. You get caught up in all the wonderfully detailed characters and compelling story that is darn hard to put down. Grab this series, it is a fun and fast ride! Oh and I DO so want to visit Vamps, have a drink or two and watch the patrons.

I have been reading the whole series and this is my new favorite. I really liked Layla. She is trying so hard to make the best of a life she did not choose. She never wanted to be a vampire. Now, she is on the run but keeping in plain sight as a heavy metal singer in a band.

Devon is so cocky and sure he knows what is right. He is a shifter and hates vampires. He works as a bounty hunter and takes pride in capturing all kinds. Layla feels different from the start but it takes some time for him to admit it. He is not easy to like at first but you grow to understand why he feels the way he does.

These two really had some strong chemistry. You can feel the flames at that first meeting. They may not be on the same side at first but you know that it won't take long for them to want to explore that fire.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

I am loving this series, The writing style, the characters and the stories have all been fantastic. This one is no exception the storyline is a love hate relationship between a Vampire and a Shapeshifter, two species who are natural enemies. Angelica is the new lead singer of the band Black Diamonds but she is also a vampire with a bounty on her head.

Devon is the bounty hunter..a shape shifter...Hired to find her and bring her back. But when he finds her, she is not what he expects. Can she make him believe in her innocence? Will they be able to get over their long time prejudices and allow what they are feeling to have free reign? This is one super hot story full of forbidden attraction and action. I loved it.

A vampire running from a death sentence and a bounty hunter who is being paid to bring her in. The two should hate each other and they do. Vampires and shifters have also hated and killed each other. But why do they both find themselves attracted to each other? He will do his job he was hired for. He doesn’t care if she is guilty or innocent. But damn does she have to make it so hard on him?

The two characters in this book have a definite love hate relationship. And it makes things so hot and steamy. Bad boy and the innocent girl thing never felt so hot.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.

Angelica is the new lead singer of the band Black Diamonds....She is not who she says she is...She is a Vampire on the run..
Devon is a bounty hunter..a shape shifter...Hired to find her and bring her back to London.
What he finds is not what he expects..Their kind have been enemies for generations.
Can she convince him she is innocent? Will they have a chance to discover if what they feel can work?
Great new read in the Underground Encounters series..
Each read is amazingly hot and full of danger and romance. And each is better than the last.

This may be my favorite in this series so far. I loved Layla and enjoyed the chemistry between her and Devon. Devon was a bounty hunter who hated vampires yet was drawn to Layla who he was basically taking to her death. Lots of action and some mystery and lots of chemistry and sexy time. Definitely worth the read and it stands on its own. An HEA with some surprises along the way. Loved it!! I am giving my voluntary review of an arc I received.

This is book four of the Underground Encounters series and the main characters are shapeshifter and bounty hunter Devon St Clair, and Layla Costa, a vampire on the run from her maker, and who has reinvented herself on another continent as Angelica, a lead singer in an 80’s rock band. She ran from her maker in London after he accused her of steaking a valuable piece of art of his, but with no way of proving her innocence before he decided to just end her life, she ran to America. Now she is playing with the band in the nightclub Vamps, in Boston, when Devon catches up to her. He was hired to capture her and return her to Stefano, her maker, a dead creature he would never normally work with or for, but paying double his fee gets him hired. He has tracked Layla to the club and approaches her, pretending to be a fan, but can’t grab her in the club, with its gargoyle protectors, that’s for sure! He waits for the right time and then uses his special props to control her powers and strength and drives away with her. She is definitely peeved when she realises where he is taking her and tries her best to escape him, all to no avail.

He can shapeshift into any animal, but prefers a mountain lion or eagle form, and is highly successful at bounty hunting, especially against supernaturals. He was able to follow her trial using his computer skills and tracking skills as a shapeshifter. What he didn’t count on was the feelings and the connection he was feeling towards her, even as she swore at him as he took her away from her place of safety. He thinks she is a thief and has no qualms about handing over a thief and there is nothing she can say to prove her innocence, especially with the evidence he found online. Thankfully, he doesn’t leave her alone with Stefano, as soon as they get to him home, needing to somehow prove whether she is actually innocent or guilty. He is soon going to find they have even more vampires coming for them, as the truth behind the theft is much more convoluted than she could ever have imagined. There is no getting away unless she and Devon confront those coming for them, as otherwise, she would be looking over her shoulder the rest of her life, on the run again!

Two characters, who because of past events, have been sworn enemies, soon find themselves unable to ignore the pull towards the other. How that will go down in his hometown is uncertain, but the truth will hopefully bridge the lack of knowledge they have of each other and allow their relationship to grow. She is certainly different to other vampires, and I wonder if there is something in her past family line to explain it. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Burn is the next installment of Lisa Carlisle's Underground Encounters series! I have totally loved this series and each book I am enjoying more and more!

Layla is living an alter ego-Angelica, the lead singer of an 80's hard rock cover band. She fled a Master Vampire by coming to the US after being framed for a theft she didn't commit.

Devon is a bounty hunter and one of the best in the business. He's relentless and always gets his prize. He never gets involved and doesn't care what the reasons the mark is being hunted. He's got special abilities being trained in the military, has great sleuthing skills, as well as being a wiz with a computer. Oh yea, he's a shifter too!! And not any particular shifter, but Devon can take on the form of any animal he wants! When he goes after Layla and catches up to her at the Vamp's bar, he's entranced with her singing, and her kicking body! Don't get involved he tells himself....this is just a job! Only his heart has other plans!

I loved both Layla and Devon from the start! Layla is a little thing but a spitfire! Yes being a vamp has it's own set of abilities, but Layla has a certain air about her that lets us see she's is vulnerable under that tough as nails façade. Devon was drawn just like a bee to honey...and he shouldn't be! Shifters and vamps don't mix! But they do seem to mix....and rather well! Their chemistry is off the charts and their sizzling attraction to each other is something they just can't explain.

I had a good time reading about these two and I rooted for them to get to bottom of the mystery at hand! Plus their steaminess together was super hot!!

Although Burn is book four in the series, it can easily be read as a standalone. The series is interesting and fun, so I am sure you will quickly indulge in the other books that all center around Vamps nightclub!

I was provided a copy of Burn from the author, for an honest review.

The plot of a shifter hunting a vampire, intrigued me. I can honestly say that I enjoyed Burn. It was sexy, dark, fun, dynamic, and even frustrating (the characters). And not frustrated in a bad way. The instant attraction that Devon felt towards Layla was HAWT, HAWT, HAWT. Especially when it was form his perspective. I am a huge sucker for guys and their "feelings" ahem--"sexy feelings".
The story was well rounded, the characters were deep and meaningful.

I have to say, Layla was my favorite, which is so typically the opposite of what I usually like.
She is strong, yet vulnerable. Sexy, smart, and I loved her! I also generally felt for the poor thing. Her life had been a shitshow. Poor thing! She still over came it, and I was so freaking proud of her! THATS MY GIRL!

This is a MUST read for anyone who likes shifters, vampires, and forbidden romance.

4/5

This is the fourth in this series I've read by Lisa Carlisle, and it doesn't disappoint! Again the story leads us to Vamps, an underground type of nightclub for the different, dark, out of place and paranormal people to
go with live bands presenting rock and related music from 80's to current
venues. This story is about a vampire lead singer who is on the run from
her recent past in England and is attempting to hide in plain site. A multi-
shifter, best in the business, bounty hunter is hired to track her down and
bring her back and has found her. He listens to the band playing on stage
waiting to grab her when they finish playing. While going over his game plan
in his head he feels an attraction to her which shocks him, but he hates vampires and can't let that interfere with his plans can he? How complicated
could it end up being?

I actually listened to the audio version of this book which I received free from the author.

Layla is a vampire who is hiding from a powerful vamp who thinks she stole something from him. She fled England for America and changed her name and appearance. She is currently working as a singer for an 80's cover band. Devon is a shape-shifter and a bounty hunter. He can take the shape of any animal or bird he chooses which helps him greatly in his work. He is also good with computers and can research and hack with the best of them. Even though he hates vampires he agreed to work for Stephen and find Layla because it paid well and he likes a challenge. It doesn't take him long to find her, but she is a little harder to catch. He isn't sure why he is suddenly having second thoughts about returning her to England to face her accuser. He couldn't really be falling for her, could he?

A vampire and a shifter? Really! A female rock star vampire, too. And not just a regular shifter but a shifter who can choose his animal. That alone was enough to catch my attention! The storyline and fast pace kept me reading. Hot steamy scenes were mixed with intrigue and suspense.

Overall it was well written. Characters were a mixed bag, though. The two main ones and a few others were fleshed out enough to be believable in their responses, but some of the other background characters seemed a bit flat.

As an independent reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock, I gave it a solid four hearts. The fast pace and premise earned it that, while the lack of depth in the bad guys and a few others kept that last heart away. Those steamy hot sex scenes, though!!!

Audio book review

Book 4 in the series. This story has it all. Paranormal characters that you will see are strong willed, action , mystery, lots of levels that you not want to put the audio down till the end. The author knows how to grab you attention. Lisa describes everything down to the finest detail .
Heroine is Layla. Hero is Devon.
Layla is running from something that scares her . That is when she meets Devon. Devon is a shifter , not only that but he’s a bounty hunter that he’s looking for Layla . Layla and Devon should never get together, thing is they are attracted to each other. Grab it and see how they work out their differences.

Amber Lee Connors, Kieran Flitton Performance was good. First time I listened to them . Their voices were smooth and clear

This is another extremely enjoyable addition to this entertaining series. Layla and Devon's story had a well balanced blend of powerful emotions, drama, excitement, tension, internal turmoil, action and sizzling heat. I really liked these characters. They were well developed and I loved the sparks that flew during every single interaction they shared. Add to this a story line that was fun and quite engaging and you have a simply delightful read. You do get dual narration for this book which is something I prefer and am always very grateful for. I thought that these narrators did a excellent job bringing these characters and their story to life.

Burn #5 03/13/2021

Devon has been hired to track down a vampire so he has tracked her to Boston and her will take her back because he really doesn’t like vampires. Layla has changed her name and her looks trying to stay hidden from a much older vampire that thinks she has stolen something from him. But Devon didn’t count on attraction to her. Now that he has gotten her back to London and is soon to turn her over he not so sure this is right. So he sticks his neck out to try the help her prove she didn’t steal from the other vampire. So enjoy this good read and see how more trouble happens before they can prove her innocence!!

A great addition to this series, this is book 4 in the Underground Encounters series and can be read/listened as a stand alone. This is a great opposites attract story with our main characters Devon and Layla. A vampire on the run and a shifter bounty hunter hired to find her. Instant attraction muddles the way for these two who fight what they feel. A great storyline with smooth flow and fantastic characters. I adore the narration and swoon for the accent! I can't wait to see what's next in this series!

There were a few things that made me feel that this book fell short of the standard set by those preceding it in the series. Firstly, I hate it when the H and h have “hate sex” enemies to lovers isn’t my favourite plot line but it’s tolerable if they only get physical once their feelings back it up (after all this is supposedly romance). Secondly there were some continuity issues that really bugged me because I was already irritated by the hate sex and there were some serious factual issues, like the fact that if you fly from Bristol to the US, the only major city you see enroute is Cardiff, you don’t even see Bristol. All series have a flat note, for me, this is it!

No real emotional connection, unfortunately

Overall, it wasn't a bad read or story if a bit rushed. But I never felt a real connection between the hero and heroine. And the enemies to lovers premise is not really believable. He is awful to her, and she still has sex with him. And then he is back to being awful to her right after they finish! It's kind of off-putting. It wasn't a horrible book I didn't want to finish. But i won't read it again and doubt I'd look for future books. Sex scenes were well written. But i prefer some kind of connection between characters for me to really enjoy the sex scenes. Overall, it's not terrible but not great either.

Devon St. Clair is a Shapeshifter and a bounty hunter and he’s on the heels of Layla who is a vampire running from the master vampire. She changes her name to Angelica and becomes a singer in an 80s club. Devon hates vampires but when he meets Layla will things actually change. Will there be a romance or a battle between them, and if she’s caught, what will the vampire do to her for running away? What happens this is an exciting adventurous action pack story that will keep you turning the pages to the very end. It is a must read, and I would highly recommend it.
