* * * Connor & Lauren: The story that begins the entire Hope Valley dating app series! * * *
Sassy, warm-hearted Lauren Garcia doesn’t expect to find a husband. Cheated on by her high school sweetheart while raising her three younger siblings alone, she swore off men a long time ago. But she can never resist helping out a friend, and unfortunately, her friend Tamika needs her to test the brand-new dating app she’s been working on. Meanwhile, her boss has been making her life hell by forcing her to evict a bunch of guys who’ve built some cabins on government land. When Lauren meets her first Shiftr match, she’s horrified to discover that it’s none other than the biggest, brawniest one of these guys. Soon, the wrong kind of sparks start to fly between her and sexy, dark-eyed bear, Connor.
Raised in a broken home with an abusive father, bear shifter Connor has vowed to stay single, believing that his genes are tainted. All he wants is a secure, permanent home for him and his rag-tag clan. He’s only on the dating app as a paid beta tester, so what does it matter if the sexy, feisty piece who’s been trying to kick him off his own land is supposed to be his perfect match? But when Lauren discovers that her boss is lying about the land, and vows to help the bears, the two of them get close, and somehow his bear can’t stop purring for the lusciously curvy, quick-witted human.
While every nerve in Connor’s body tells him that Lauren is his, he can’t shake his belief that mating her will lead to heartbreak. But when a secret from his past emerges, leaving Lauren feeling like a fool for ever trusting him, will it break them apart, or bring an unexpected solution to the dark legacy that’s been blocking both of their hearts?
*** Although this is the 12th book in the best-selling series, it is chronologically the first book in the story. So, if you’re new to Hope Valley, this is the best place to start! ***
This is a standalone, full-length read, full of romance, laughs and sexy shifters. HEA and no cheating, of course! An additional story is included as a special FREE bonus!
USA Today bestselling author Ariana Hawkes writes spicy romantic stories with lovable characters, plenty of suspense, and a whole lot of laughs. She told her first story at the age of four, and has been writing ever since, for both work and pleasure. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband and two huskies.
This book was such a disappointing start to this series as I loved Ariana's other shifter series so much! The entire book left me feeling indifferent--the back-and-forth romance, the soft hero, the simpering heroine. I had such high hopes for this series, but now I don't know if I will continue.

I'm naturally attracted to BBWs, which made this book catch my eye. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief if what is presented is plausible. But in this case, I'm asked to believe that a full-grown man thinks he bought a large parcel of land for one dollar and a handshake, with no paperwork involved, and will argue and get angry about it when presented with the simple truth. Sorry, no can do. I didn't make it out of chapter one.
Lauren needed to grow a backbone and Connor was an ahole.Connor would make out with her and then push her away over and over again. She would cry and get depressed and then when he wanted to make out again, she just let him do what he wanted. And why did Connor keep making out with her-knowing he didn't want to mate her....and he kept from her that he knew she dated his bro who cheated on her.....selfish jerk.

Shiftr: Swipe Left for Love (Connor & Lauren) by Ariana Hawkes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I absolutely love this series. Ariana Hawkes rocks my world every time she add another book to The BBW Bear Shifter Romance Hope Valley BBW Dating App Romance Series. The series has twelve books so far and if the decision were mine she would continue writing books in this series. This is a fantastic new story that's about the first couple in this extraordinary series. Ariana can make you cry, She can make you laugh out loud but through it all you will enjoy and love the characters. This book is sexy, surprising, suspenseful and poignant, delivering 100% on the promise of its premise. When I finished reading it all I wanted to do is read it again.
Connor and Lauren This is their story that begins the entire Hope Valley dating app series! This is the follow up that's already laid the groundwork for the earlier books. The thing is Sassy, warm-hearted Lauren Garcia doesn’t expect to find a husband ever, after her High school sweetheart cheated on her, she decided to concentrate on raising her three siblings and so she swears off men. Lauren is the type of friend to help her friends anyway she can, so when Tamika needs her to test her App she's reluctant but she agrees. When Lauren meets her first Shiftr match, she is surprise to discover that it’s none other than one of these guys and it's not long before the sparks start to fly between her and sexy, dark-eyed bear-shifter Connor. Connor decides he must stay single and never find his mate because of the way he was raised and that he had tainted genes. But the fates has something in store for the both of them. This Book is so exciting, compelling and amazing. I really appreciate how Lauren stood up for herself, yet she stills kept an open mind. When she opens her heart to Connor and she finally tells him, oh my I need couple fans it is so good. There is no game playing between them or artifice but of course love never run smooth. But their relationship is hot steaming hot, as for the twist I saw it coming. I worry that some people might take issue with it, but I thought it was amazing and entertaining. Of course there's a rat but I'll let you read about him. Well I must say I could go on and on about this book. I even feel I got one or two ideas for another book in the Shiftr: Swipe Left for Love 😍Hahaha Ariana knows she is awesome friend and writer to me. I highly recommend this book If you want to cry, laugh and have a few hot flashes while you read then this series is just what you want to read.
I have read several of the Shiftr series books. Most of the time I read the synopsis before I start reading the book. This I did not…LOL I literal stopped and check to make sure I downloaded the right book. So just in case you have not read the book yet, lets say we are going back to the beginning were it all began. Truly a great story and it was great to see where it began.
Lauren Garcia is an example of what it can be like for a woman to make it in a man’s world. She worked for the Park Department and her boss used her and gave her no credit for her hard work. He was truly a male chauvinist pig, scum, a low life, and I could go on and on.
Lauren was a beautiful smart curvy woman and just wanted to feel attractive. She knew about the shifter world and had a friend that was married to a shifter. Now if you know anything about this series then you know it is about a dating app. This is truly one thing I love about this series. Does Lauren end up on this dating app, yes she does.
If you had read any of the other books in the series then you already are familiar with Connor, Mr. Sexy Bear himself. Don’t worry if you have not read any of the books because this book can be read as a standalone, plus this is where it all began.
My heart broke for Connor. In a away he was a damaged bear. He felt he was unworthy of a mate and refused to take a mate. His honor, compassion, and loyalty was truly amazing. You can not read about Connor without falling in love with him. If you want to know why he felt unworthy then you will have to read the book.
Connor had a lot on his plate. Lauren’s boss was trying to destroy everything that Connor and his clan had built. This was hurting the clan. I loved the compassion that Lauren felt for these bear shifters. She was torn between doing her job or doing the right thing.
I loved when Connor’s brother was brought into the mix. By the end of the story I truly liked Frankie. I feel Frankie coming into the picture was what Connor and Frankie needed for healing. Both had been damaged because of their past and their past was still tearing them both up inside.
It Connor messes up and it appears he had ruin his chances with Lauren. Lauren is falling through his fingers. I loved seeing Connor having to work to win Lauren. I felt Lauren truly needed this and it also shows anything worth having is worth fighting for.
This was truly a great story and glad I got a chance to read the book.
Connor is a lone bear running from his feelings and family. He thinks his dna is mixed with something other than bear which means he can never take a mate
Lauren is living in a small apartment all by herself after the siblings she raised have grown up and left. She is in a job she hates with a boss she hates and she’s lonely
Laurens high school sweetheart broke her heart at 17 so she has never had a relationship since. That seems crazy to me. Her siblings are all married and yet she sits at home by herself because of one stupid teenage boy 15 years prior.
Anyway she is sent by her boss to kick Connor and his clan out if their homes that they built in the wood. Connor says he bought the land fair and square but because he can’t provide a receipt Lauren says he doesn’t really have a leg to stand on but says she is going to help him.
Lauren is helping her friend with her shifter dating app and she gets paired with Connor and they go on a date not knowing it’s with each other. It doesn’t work out so cos Connor is a complete douche canoe. I mean I really did not like him for the first half of the book.
They try another date where he kisses her then runs away. She says she is done with him but then overhears her boss and one of her colleagues (who got her promotion) saying they are going to sell the cabins that the clan built and she runs out to tell Connor but when she meets him he is in a rage over the posters around town advertising their cabins for sale. He’s a real dick in that moment but I like that she kept her cool and told him if he had just got a receipt then all this would have been avoided and she leaves.
She gets her journalist friend to help who writes an article about the local Parks and Rec dept trying to stiff the guys out of what is rightfully theirs which causes uproar in the town and all the ads for the cabins are taken down.
Connor decides after been a dick to her one more time that he loves Lauren and wants to be her mate so when she goes to deliver the good news that it looks like they are going to win, all the bears want her to celebrate with her and after its over they have sex but he doesn’t mark her because he knows a secret.
She finds out what the secret is and flips out. I think she overreacted to be honest. He was never 100% sure and didn’t want to hurt her if he didn’t need to. She keeps him at arm’s length for a while and even accepts it when her boss tells her he is relocating her.
Connor gets wind of this and goes to find the boss. Turns out the boss is the guy that sold them the land. He threatens him and tells him to tell the truth and to give Lauren her job back and he does what he’s told.
Connor has a dna test which tells him he is just bear and he runs to tell Lauren who has been given her boss’s job and she forgives him for everytrhing
I didn’t like Connor at first and I didn’t like Lauren at the end. But overall the story was ok
Love the Shiftr books! We get Conner and Lauren's story with this book. Lauren works for Game and Parks, her boss sent her to evict some guys who are living at the edge of the forest. He told her that the guys were building houses and living illegally on Game and Park property. When she gets to the cabins and confronts Conner he starts getting aggressive and yelling at her. He said that he bought the land for a nominal fee from some guy that was wearing the parks uniform and had a badge. When she asked for a bill of sale or some sort of written proof, he told her it was a verbal agreement. They argued she left. In the meantime, Tamika asked both Lauren and Conner's clan to sign up to her Shiftr app so they could beta test it. Conner doesn't want a mate but he agrees because they need the money to finish their cabins. Lauren doesn't want a relationship because of her past but agrees to go on three dates to test the algorithm for her. No pictures are shown on the beta test, so Lauren and Conner end up together for a date. It didn't end well. They started arguing and Conner left within five minutes. More trouble happens between the Game and Parks and Conner clan, including being barricaded out of the cabins with metal sheeting. Lauren also finds out that her past problem with a cheating boyfriend is related to Conner. So they have to work out a few issues before they get their HEA. I believe there are four more original clan members that haven't found a mate yet. Looking forward to those stories too.
This is where my favorite app made it's appearance to the world and who would've know it was so rocky, but never wrong!
Conner had a very cruel father, growing up he told him and his brother some terrible lies that would shape his personal relationships which were nil until he met his soul mate and even then it was very hard for him, he fought it to the end, but love always conquers. Then his brother Frankie decides to show up and Lauren knows that face from long ago.
Lauren was burned badly at the high school prom by a cheating boyfriend. She then went on to raise her siblings and they've all gone off and she is happy living and working in Hope Valley where her BFF's live also. One of her BFF Tamika has created a new dating app for Shifters and BBW's and she wants her to be her Beta, the first to see if it really works. Well she is matched up with a bear of a man, but turns out she's the one evicting him and his clan from their homes. To Top it all off remember when she was cheated at her prom, Frankie?
This 1st encounter with the Shiftr App is really shaky, but what new invention isn't, ya just have to play with it....LoL Stay Tuned!
Loved that Connor and Lauren have their story. Connor is the head of his clan of bears and they've completed their cabins and are enjoying living in their new homes finally settling down. Unfortunately it's short lived when Lauren shows up from park services to let them know they have to leave that they're not supposed to be there. Connor bought the property but has no proof and when he describes who sold them the land Lauren knows he's telling the truth. Between trying to help him, help Tamika with her app Lauren is also fighting her feelings for this bear who is running hot and cold. Connor wants Lauren but doesn't think he can be who she wants.
Another hit in this Shiftr series! What a great treat to be able to read how this all started. Once again the author tells a tale that leaves the reader satisfied and for me wanting more! You don't need to have read the other books before this one so if you love shifter romance you MUST read it!
This takes us back to the first mated couple. Just in case you do not realise. This is about the very first couple matched on Tamika’s dating app. Most of the previous characters we have read about are new residents to Hope Valley in this book. Lauren was hurt by her cheating boyfriend as a teenager but this seems to have hung over her to her detriment. She comes across as weak then strong, it is only my knowledge of her from the other books that has lifted this review. Connor has been lied to by his father and believes he is not a fit mate for Lauren. His bear is giving him grief as it knows Lauren is theirs. Behind these two going around in circles with each other is the background story of land grabbing and deceit and how this bunch of misfit shifters start to make a home in Hope Valley. Whilst I enjoyed this it didn’t rush me along for the ride like most of this series. This is my honest review of this book.
I enjoyed Connor and Laurens story alot it had alot of oh no moments for sure! Creating the Shiftr app for shifters to meet curvy woman Tamika talks her friend Lauren to try out the beta mode, as she's given the app to Connor as well for extra cash, and low an behold its a match which neither are happy with. Lauren works for the very place stealing the shifters cabins away. No matter the attraction they can't seem to win. Later on more truths come out involving a deep pain inside Lauren, an Connor as well intertwining into a big mishap of information all because of 1 cheating man. Things get serious on both sides but can it be enough after what they both went through? I loved these characters the alpha was a perfect choice in my view. Ariana brought them to life in the best of ways as always! Very interesting storyline!
Lauren is helping a friend out by using a data app to connect human women to male shifters. Her friend also makes contact with shifters to get the app started as it is all in its beta stages. Lauren agrees to go on a date with her first match.
Meanwhile Connor is pissed because his pack is almost finished with building their cabins in the perfect area and ready to start being involved with their more “human” sides, when some tiny little female comes to tell them that they have to clear out.
That tiny little female just happens to be dun dun dunnnnnn Lauren. Together they try to figure out how to save the cabins!!
Connor and his small Clan of Bearshifters have finally found a home. But after building their dream cabins on the outskirts of a National Park, their serenity is disturbed. Threats of losing their land and homes creates discord. But into this mix comes Lauren. She's part of the Parks system, but not part of the problem. Add into the situation the new app her friend has created to connect Shifters with their true mates. Lauren and Connor are both part of the Beta testing, and, as they say, the rest is history. Well, once they get past the part of not being able to stand each other. Delightful story with cute dialogue, sincere characters and a lovely HEA. Sweet Times.
The long awaited book of the first couple to use the shifter dating app. Ariana takes us back to when the app was for s t created and the trials that the couple needed to deal with.
Connor is the leader of a bunch of bears with no home and tries to make a home for them and with them.
Lauren is sent to kick them off their land by her boss stating there is no proof they purchased the land. With her own issues at work and in her personal life lauren still tries to help the bears.
A great heart warming story for the first couple paired that will keep you turning the page to see what happens next.

If you have purchased any of this wonderfully written series you'll know that it's thoroughly enjoyable. Every single addition to the series as it continues is unique situations ,wonderfully portrayed characters and sizzling hot sexy interactions. Different situations and storylines. So I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU CHECK OUT FOR YOURSELF AND ENJOY IT TOO!! This will be a great addition to your own personal library!📖🍷👏👏👏👏👏👏🔟🔟🔟🔟🔟🔟🔟💟😘😍💑💞
So far.. Not really feeling this author. There's no real substance. There were some sweet moments and some hot moments but the rest of it was just blah. I was really hoping she would go somewhere with the land stealing, somewhere a little more dangerous and then I was hoping for it to be with the bear that challenged him but it all just feel flat. I guess this is what happens when you read novellas. But I've read a lot of novellas that give you everything in a short amount of time without the repetitions.
I have to say this book was a refreshing read, being it was book 12 in the set! Even being book 12 it is a stand alone and does not need the other books to make it understood.
The book is a work of art that makes you want to keep reading to get to the yummy parts! You have lots of spice, some work on both parties to get to the end result. Slimy toads .. and lots of love showing as you read the books ..
I gave this book four stars and the reasoning behind that is mainly the fact that we already know what the end results are. If you're like me and you've read the whole series thus far you know who everyone in this book is going to end up with even Laurens friends. I think that this is a great book but you just can't have the start of everything be the middle or end of the series. In most if not every book we saw a little of these two so there was no oooh factor for me.
From the very first I have been hooked on shiftr. What an amazing author and amazing series. Every great author knows her audience and knows what to give them and when I have been waiting for Lauren and Connor's story and now that I have it I can still say after buying and reading the complete series miss Ariana Hawkes does not disappoint. My personal thanks and wishes for many more great reads Ariana
I’ve read others in the series, but it’s nice to read the origin story, so to speak. The whole bit of having an algorithm to help fate along is interesting. I won’t quibble about how fantastic it works straight out of the gate. Neither Connor nor Lauren are looking for mates. They actually meet through her work with the parks department. And it’s not a pleasant meeting. However, fate keeps throwing them together and it all works out.
Ironically, although it is book #12, Connor & Lauren are the first couple brought together by Shiftr App (an App that brings male shifters and curvy female humans). It is complicated but the characters are delightful, many of whom faithful readers have encountered in previous books. I am so glad to finally read their story. Well done (I am on track to read all 14 books in this series in less than 2 weeks). Bravo!
I read this series closer to when it first came out and enjoyed the books quite a bit. However, rereading them now, I had a harder time getting through this first book. The miscommunication and such got to an annoying point, probably because the older you get the more pronounced and annoying that stuff gets. I think it would be a good idea to go back and do a bit of a clean up on the books. Not a bad read if you’re wanting a quick shifter romance.
I confess this wasn’t my first book by this author, but the first just wasn’t my cup of tea. The description of this booked hooked me, though, so I decided to give it a shot. It was fantastic! It definitely sets up the characters and clan for future books and I’m excited to read everyone else’s stories. (I’m assuming Frankie has a story, and I can’t wait to get to it. The guy deserves some happiness!)
I loved this series. I would recommend anyone who has yet to start this series starts with this book. It answered questions I had throughout the series. I would recommend this book as well as the whole series to all who love shapeshifter romance. The story and the characters draw you in and make you feel as if you are part of the story.
While this book is listed as book 12 in this series, it is actually a prequel to the already published works. It is set at the origins of the Shiftr app and includes characters that have already mated in other books. It was a nice “throw back” to how and why the Bear clan began their construction business and who the first human/ Shifter pairings were.
Connor and Lauren story was very touching. I really enjoyed it. I have read all of the stories in the series and to go back to the beginning was great! I had no idea Connor carried a tremendous burden as he did. I was glad the fates paradigm up with Lauren who herself had carried a large weight as well . They both deserved each other.
Lauren is just doing her job and lands in the middle of some bear shifters and what they call home. Connor is is the alpha bear f his clan and they built homes on land he said they bought for a dollar. They both use a dating app and find out they are true mates but it's not a smooth ride for them. This is a fast fun read.
Absolutely loved this story it was sweet and sexy. Connor and Lauren were perfect for each other. I highly recommend reading this story before the others in the series. Since Lauren and Connor are the first couple, I believe the rest of the series will make more sense. Happy Reading!!!
It's nice to see how Conner and Lauren started considering how happy they are in the previous book. They sure didn't have a smooth path to happiness, but it was so worth it. It is also interesting that Tamika is Lauren's good friend but not in the same circle as Melissa, Dina and Kristen. Overall I'm so happy with this series.
