When her fiancé is shot in an apparent assassination attempt, private investigator Lexi Graves’ world is thrown into chaos and turmoil. With the list of suspects growing by the minute, and the hit man still on the loose, there’s no way Lexi can sit idly by Solomon’s bedside and hope he survives when she could be out hunting for the person or persons responsible.
After taking charge of Solomon’s private detective agency, Lexi enlists the help of her friends and family in her effort to bring the perpetrator to justice. Investigating, however, will lead Lexi into some areas of Solomon’s life that he purposefully left behind and unveil some startling revelations about the man she loves. With the situation becoming increasingly dangerous, Lexi has no choice but to unravel his past and ask a surprising source for help in her quest to discover why Solomon was targeted. Yet with her successive questions come some shocking answers and a conspiracy far bigger than Lexi could have ever anticipated.
When Lexi knows everything, and the mysterious details of Solomon’s past become clear, she can only wonder if anything in her life will ever be the same again.

From the beginning of the series, I have loved Lexi and her friend. With every book, that love grows. Rules of Engagement is the BEST of an outstanding series that almost any reader would enjoy. Between heart and humor there is so much that pulled me into Rules of Engagement, but this one leans towards heart as Lexi waits to find out if Solomon will recover from a serious injury and tries to find out who is behind the evil deed. While any one can enjoy the book by itself, a reader's attachment to the characters and knowledge of her background with the other people in the book will make the experience even greater.
This is the latest installment in the Lexi Graves Mysteries and what an amazing read it is. Life seems good for Lexi until someone shoots Solomon, the love of her life. Even though the police are investigating, Lexi gets Solomon's PI firm (where she works) to do their own investigation. With the support of hers and Solomon's family, friends and acquaintances, she probes into why someone would want to shoot him, who his enemies could be, and finds help in the strangest of places. Of course Maddox helps her, as Solomon requested. And by him helping she realises her true direction. This book is fast paced, well written (something I love about Camilla's books, well written grammatically) and, in parts, humorous (especially where Lexi's Mum is concerned!). I loved this book and I so want to read the next one, but I guess I'll have to wait...
I love this series! Camilla is a wonderful writer. This is the eleventh book in this series and I think the best. The characters are varied and interesting. Their relationships are realistic and fun. This book is especially engaging as the family works together when someone tries to murder Solomon. Surrounded by family and friends Lexi works to figure out why and to protect Solomon from being murdered while he is unable to protect himself. Exciting, emotional and very well written.
Rules of Engagement is the absolute best so far in this series. I have loved every Lexi Graves books they are near the top of my constantly re-read list they are that good.
Wedding planning fun or not??? Lexi is just not sure but she does enjoy the cake testing.......
A quiet night in with Solomon when disaster strikes but for once trouble wasn't after Lexi....
While Solomon is laid up in hospital Lexi strikes out with her team from the agency, Maddocks and her family to find who put Solomon in the hospital and why... the why will shock you or maybe not....
There will be gun fire but thats a given with Lexi around if you ask her family...lol There will be moments of fear and their will be an absolutely brilliant ending to it all.
Lexi Graves is an awesome character I love how she has evolved and grown from the first book to now and then ending in this one really shows it, I'm so looking forward to Lexi's next adventure.
Lily is awesome as always and seriously Fudging Fudgsicles had me laughing so hard it's going to be my new catch phrase for the year.
Solomon may have bee out of it for a bit in this book but it was still a story all about him, learning more about his past was interesting and I get that he likes to leave the past in the past but honestly he should be proud of all he has done and he should be very proud of what he walked away from.
and can I just say Serena being kind of nice was a shock maybe Delgado really is rubbing off on her lol.
It was kind of strange to find out about Soloman's past when he was essentially not in the book. And it was a bit of let down as there was nothing shocking nor surprising in what Lexi found out. I don't know why Soloman was being so mysterious, he could have easily told Lexi at least the basics of his past/work history. (but then we won't have this book, I get it)
I had been suspicious that Maddox was actually unemployed the last couple books. He talked about overseas assignments that never materialized and he never seemed busy or at work. But he flashed a badge in this book, so I guess he must still be employed by the FBI.
Honorable mention of Lexi's cute, yellow bungalow!
Loved this book! This is a great series with characters that I just fell in love with. Lexi is a private investigator employed by her fiance', Solomon's, firm. They are just settling in for a quiet evening at home when he is shot and Lexi's world crumbles.
Despite the police department investigating, Lexi tasks their PI firm to do its own investigation. In the past, Solomon has been very quiet and mysterious about his past, frequently declining to answer questions and changing the subject. Because of the investigation, Lexi learns things about Solomon's past that he never would have told her. Most of those things are a complete surprise to her, as are some of his most trusted allies from his past.
This is a quickly moving novel that fans of the genre will love. While it is a stand alone novel, you will enjoy it so much more if you've read the prior books. The author is on my must read authors' list.
Camilla Chafer strikes again with another story about PI Lexy Graves. Lexy really shines in this book. I love her take charge attitude when someone close to her is hurt. She gets down to business to catch her suspect yet doesn't lose her since of humor in true Lexy fashion. This is a great weekend read that you will thank yourself for when done, only you will leave yourself thinking what could possibly be next for Lexy, Solomon, and the rest of the gang.
Rules of Engagement was another great Lexi Graves mystery by Camilla Chafer. Lexi finds herself investigating the shooting of her fiancé Solomon and uncovers a lot of the mystery to Solomon’s past. Maddox also steps in to help with finding the shooter. This series just gets better, in my opinion. Rules of Engagment could be read as a stand-alone, but I would advise starting with book one so you can understand the dynamics of all the characters.
Lexi has done it again!!!! The plot keeps twisting, and the emotions are on a roller coaster in this one! I love Lexi Graves series, and I think this book has jumped to my favorite in the series so far. Camilla Chafer is amazing! If you haven't read this series, you are seriously missing out, go read it NOW!!!
Another job well done by Camilla Chafer! This is a fun and exciting series to read. I fell in love with the characters from the very first book. This book gives you a better look into Solomons life story. Throught this book I had so many emotions. Excited, happy, sad, and scared. Can not wait to see what the next book brings!
Read in one sitting! Can’t get enough of Lexie, Solomon, Maddox, and the gang. Someone is out to get Solomon and it’s up to Lexie to find out who. And of course she does with all the humor and romance we expect! Lexie always catches the bad guys!
I think all the Lexi Graves mysteries are the best one yet until I read the latest!
Solomon gets shot and Lexi is determined to find out who and why. As she delves into Solomon's life trying to find a link to the shooter, she finds answers about his past. Maddox, the agency, and her family rally to Lexi's side to help her find out who wants Solomon dead. The unexpected twist of why Solomon was shot and who was involved surprised me.
I can honestly say, that I LOVED the plot in this book! I was disappointed in who Lexi ended up with. I have enjoyed this series and hope Ms. Chafer writes more!
This series has been one of my favourite discoveries. About two years ago, I went through a bit of a rough stage where a friend of mine was diagnosed with terminal cancer. We were about the same age, with kids the same age and it was just really one of those things that reinforces how fragile and unfair life can truly be. I spent a lot of that time trawling through iBooks and Amazon downloading every free cozy kind of read I could find. Usually a first in a series and I stumbled across this one around that time. I think there were maybe 7 or 8 released when I first started reading them and I’ve kept up with each new release, pre-ordering them. I didn’t find out about this one until about 2-3 days before it was released, which was good.
In my review of the previous Lexi Graves novel, I expressed a bit of frustration about how Lexi allowed Soloman, her fiance, to brush off her questions about his past etc and had revealed almost nothing about himself to her as their relationship deepened. Yes she knows what kind of man he is, she’s had ample time to observe him in many different situations and there’s no doubt that Soloman loves Lexi and makes her a high priority in his life. But he has a mysterious past with a lot of potentially dubious employment. He came by his mad skills somehow and Lexi has never really pressed too much for answers.
All that changes when Solomon is shot twice at close range whilst answering their door. Although doctors were successfully able to remove both bullets, Soloman remains in a coma to allow his body to heal and Lexi is desperate for answers. She wants to know how everyone met Soloman and what sort of things he may have been involved with in the past that could be coming back to bite him now. She takes over the private detective agency and grills everyone that knows Soloman on what they know about him. Even the smallest bit of information could be the break they need in order to find out who did this and remove the threat.
So Lexi and the reader finally get the answer to a lot of Soloman questions. And awkwardly, when the team are trying to come up with people or past scenarios that may have had an impact on this shooting they end up with something like 97 names in about an hour. Which gives Lexi a cold introduction to the sort of work Soloman has done in his past. He has background in both the Army and the CIA as well as loans to the FBI and quite possibly some other more shady less documented lines of work. Lexi has to process this as the trusted crew from the agency run their own investigation and her brother oversees the official police investigation. Soloman remains in danger – another attempt is made to harm him whilst he is still in ICU so they need to work even faster before someone succeeds.
I really enjoyed this (except for one small thing, but that’s kind of a spoiler). I liked the fact that Lexi really stepped up. She’s very upset about Soloman but she’s also very determined. She takes over the agency, begins making the decisions but she brings in the ones that she knows Soloman really trusts and together they all make quite a good team. Of course Maddox is brought in as well and he’s really the only thing that bothered me in this book. I just wish he’d kind of go away and stop hanging around. At least in this book he stops pretending and Lexi ends up realising the extent of the feelings he still has for her but the two of them do kind of cross a line here and I’m trying to ignore it because there are extenuating circumstances but both of them should’ve never placed themselves in this position anyway. Lexi you don’t need comfort from your ex-boyfriend. You have literally a cast of thousands in these books that you could seek out.
I think the author does take the ‘easy way out’ here and have Lexi discover this information about Soloman while he’s in a coma, rather than having him actually confide details of his life to her and make them participate in an open and honest conversation. But I’m happy Lexi does have more information about Soloman and his previous life before starting the detective agency. I think she will understand him better and it should help strengthen their relationship now that a lot of who/what Soloman is, is not so much of a shadowy mystery. Hopefully there’s a lot of resolution now – Lexi was kind of panicking about the wedding but now she’s ready to do it. I hope the next book gives us that!
This is an excellent addition to the series, I would highly recommend that you read the previous books first as this book answers questions about Solomon that were asked before. Solomon has been a bit of a mystery. In the last book Maddox and Lexi had a conversation that highlighted that Lexi didn't really know much about Solomon's past. It has it's sad moments but also some humour. It's well written. ARC.
Start to finish I loved this book! The Lexi Graves Series is one of my favorites by Camilla Chafer. They have a bit of everything in them…a little romance, comedy and suspense. This has to be my favorite book in the series, so far. It’s of those books you can’t put down, but you don’t want to finish it either, because then it will be over. I highly recommend this series!!
I stopped reading this series after book 5 because I am a HUGE Maddox fan. So, here it is, 6 books later, and I decide to read this one to see where things have gone.
Lexi Graves and John Solomon are engaged, living together, still working in his agency with the same people. Lexi is still surrounded by her overprotective brothers (although she stands up to them more now) and her best friend, Lily. Her co-workers have become extended family.
Solomon is shot twice at point blank range. He is rushed to the hospital and into surgery. All her immediately family, as well as work family, rush to the hospital to support her. She refuses to sit idly by, so she rallies the troops. Her brothers, police officers, are officially investigating the shooting. However, Lexi takes control of the Solomon Agency, putting all cases on hold and making Solomon the priority. She also notifies Solomon’s 2 younger siblings and they join in the melee.
Solomon has kept his past quiet, and Lexi still doesn’t know anything about him prior to the case they met on. And they’re engaged. I wouldn’t agree to marry a man who still kept secrets from me. I’d be thinking, “What’s he hiding? Why is he hiding his past? Has he done something so horrific that if I discover it he knows I’ll leave him? Is it going to cause harm to me or my family? Doesn’t he trust me? How can I trust that he’ll always tell me the truth?” Solomon has a couple of “awww” moments in this story but it didn’t change my mind about him.
Lexi definitely comes across more mature, thoughtful, intelligent and organized than in the earlier books. She continues to have a few ditzy moments but far fewer than earlier books.
Maddox remains a nice, intelligent, supportive, protective guy.
I figured out why Solomon was shot very early on, so the rest of the story was predictable. It is a quick, easy read. It just didn’t end the way I wanted it to. I can’t explain my disappointment in some things without giving spoilers.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by the author.
OMG!!! Camilla has outdone herself with this book. Bravo .
So Lexi is back and this will be her biggest challenge yet. When John Solomon is shot and almost dies, she feels like her whole world is falling apart. What does she do? She bust her ass looking for the man who tried to kill her beloved fiancé. But it is not as simple as it first seems, as the gunman is not the person calling the shots. As Lexi and the gang get closer to the truth her life becomes more in danger by the minute. The clock is running out and one of their own may be in trouble.
I want to start by saying how much I love this series. I get so excited every time a new book is ready. This book is no different than the rest of the series. It is full of danger and action. A page turner through and through. I could not put it down. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I even shed some tears.
I am so in love with Lexi and Solomon. Hell I love the all the characters. But the bond between Lexi and Solomon is so strong and their love is amazing. In this book we get more insight to his past that Maddox warned Lexi about. It doesn't really help him none. Poor Maddox. He never really had a fighting chance. And that Lily. Man she cracks me up! I love her.
This whole series is fun and energetic. Each book is as good as the one before. The characters are amazing and energetic and the cases are intense. Not to mention the sex appeal that Mr. Solomon has going on. Mmmh hmmmm that man is fine.
If you haven't started this series yet, then you are missing out and I suggest you pick them up. You will not regret it. If you are looking for action and adventure, with a dose of danger and hot romance, then this is for you.
It was really great being back into the world of Lexi Graves. In previous installment Lexi's boyfriend, John Solomon is evasive about his past. In "Rules of Engagement" we finally gain real insight into what John has been hiding. The question is will this be a game changer for Lexi.
To get straight to the heart fifth matter, John is shot twice while opening the door to pay the pizza delivery guy. He now lives in the hospital in a coma and Lexi is determined to rally the troops at the agency to find who did this and why. Her search will lead her to seek the aid of her former boyfriend and FBI agent, Maddox. Together they begin to unravel John's past.
The closer John and Lexi get to the truth the greater Lexi becomes in danger. However, Lexi's friends and family really work together to one to her aid. In the end a valuable lesson is learned, sometimes it's not your enemies you should worry about its those who are closest to you. I really enjoyed this read especially the mystery and intrigue. There is plenty of action and some of the characters were quite colorful. It was also great to finally gain insight into John's past. I can't wait to see what's next in store for this couple.
Rules of Engagement is another superb book in the Lexi Graves series. In this book, Lexi searches for answers about why someone would want to hurt Solomon. I enjoyed learning more about Solomon's background and finding out answers to the questions about his past so I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for answers about the man of mystery, Solomon. For me, this book also highlighted how much Lexi has grown as an investigator and leader based on the trust placed in or agreement with her decisions and ideas by the more seasoned professionals. This element is important to me because I like strong character development over the course of a series, which this book and series did very well. Also, I was very pleased that Lexi made a conscious choice (and the right one) about her romantic life in Rules of Engagement. I recommend reading the other books in the series before this one to better understand the references to past cases and some of the character interactions. I highly recommend this book and any book written by Ms. Chafer, and I am looking forward to the next Lexi book.
This is one of those series where I got the first book on a whim when there were only I think 3 published and it sucked me in. I was very sad when I read all 3 in as many days and I have been counting down days until the next book releases ever since. In This latest installment we find Solomon getting shot and ending up in the hospital while Lexi takes charge and investigates with the help of friends, family, and the agency Solomon owns and Lexi works at. We finally get information into Solomon's mysterious past as the suspect list continues to grow and in the process more information on his friends and family as well. (of course this means I have to re-read it to make sure I didn't miss anything and I now have many more questions I hope to have answers to in books to come) All in all this is probably my favorite book so far in this series or at least tied for favorite book...its so hard to choose. I would and have recommended this series and author to others. *arc received for an honest review
I won't provide a synopsis as so many other already have...
I adore Lexi Grave's character and have followed the series through the latest book 11. The storyline and mystery in the book were well written, and as always, it was an enjoyable read, thus the reason behind the 4 star rating. BUT, this may be my last read of the series. Why? Because I love Adam Maddox's character and he continues to get pushed away by Lexi. It's ironic to me because I usually love the bad boy, which to me would be Solomon in this series. And the possibility of Maddox reconnecting with someone from high school doesn't give me comfort that he ends up happy, if that was the purpose of that snippet of information being included. I can't explain it, it just feels wrong to me, albeit, just my personal opinion. The book had a "happy ending" and yet I feel disappointed.
Another great read by Camilla. After Solomon is shot, Lexi is determined to find out who did it and why. She is surrounded by family, friends and colleagues, all of which are willing to help out any and every way that they can. During the course of the investigation she finds out lots of things about him, past and present, that she didn't know before. She meets some new people along the way and learns who she can trust and who she can't. This is fast paced read with some twists and turns along the way. This is probably my favorite book yet in the series. You can really feel the deep, raw love that Lexi and Solomon have for each other and the true bond with all of her family and friends. I can't wait to read what's in store for them next.
I had to sneak in some reading time between Christmas obligations as this was released just before Christmas. I really enjoyed this installment of the series, maybe even more than the last ones.
When Solomon is shot Lexi starts searching in his past. When they got engaged Maddox told Lexi she knew next to nothing about Solomon's past, which was right. So it was high time and this story provided enough. I know there are Maddox fans out there, but I love Lexi/Solomon and enjoy the development of their story. This one was a very good read even when I figured it out early on. Loved the way the Graves family was there for Lexi and Solomon when needed.
Lexi has been maturing a lot since the first books. I look forward to the next.
After Soloman gets shot, Lexi is on her own to try to run the company and find the guy who shot him. During the investigation, Lexi finds surprising info about Soloman's past. Can she move forward knowing this information? Will it affect her relationship with Soloman and his siblings? You'll have to read it to find out!
Lexi moves up from employee to boss in this book. She has absolutely no confidence in herself, but finds that if you are determined to achieve a goal, nothing can stop you! I love that she finds herself and kicks butt doing it. I like how she has to rely on friends and family to achieve success.
What a roller coaster ride from the very beginning to the very end! Lexi is locked in a desperate race to find the person responsible for shooting fiancé John Solomon before there’s another attempt on his life. As all their family members & friends pitch in to process leads, feed the hungry, & keep the vigil at Solomon’s bedside, Lexi conducts her own investigation. While digging into Solomon’s past looking for suspects & motives Lexi uncovers quite a few surprises. With more than one plot twist, a little laughter, & some sweet romance I absolutely could not put it down!
Camilla Chafer has outdone herself. I've read all of the Lexi Graves mysteries. This is definitely one of the best. Lexi has grown so much and continues to find strength she never knew she had as she tracks down the gunman who shot her fiancé at point blank. In the process, we all learn more about the past of John Solomon as Lexi learns information from his trusted allies, some of which are quite surprising. Why would he trust these people and how will they help find the shooter? Why was he a target? Was he really the target? I recommend having some spare time when you start because you will not want to stop until the end.
I love this series. This book was well written and I really enjoyed the storyline. There were several times I was surprised by a twist, but I saw the family connection right away. It was tied in great. Lexi and Solomon have yet to make progress with wedding plans, come to find out she is procrastinating due to lack of information from her fiance's past. I loved Solomon's most trusted list, especially O'Malley. Trusted friends and family become more important than ever. The visuals the words provided from O'Malley's assistance were fantastic. Maddox has unresolved feelings and Solomon's character becomes much more clear. Strongly recommend this book.
I can honestly say I love the plot of this book, it was fast-paced and Lexi finally came out acting more organized and more mature than in the other book. I am still disappointed we didn't get much more about Solomon's past but at least we got some details. I do find very interesting his friendship with that guy who helps them figure things out. I also loved that we got more Maddox in this book, and that scene when they were in the safe house, omg, oh how I wish Lexi and Maddox could get a second chance :( It still bothers me the way they ended up and we all know thanks to Solomon's own agenda....
Fantastic book. I think this is the best Lexi Graves book yet. You finally find out more about Solomon and I have to say he does not dissapoint. I would highly recommend reading the whole series as I don't feel this book will work as well as a stand alone. I love the relationship between Lexi and Solomon and their love for each other shines through in this book. The loyalty of Lexi's friends and family and how they rally round is wonderful and the story is so well written. An emotional ride and well worth the read. Well done Camilla Chafer on another outstanding book.
