Bad news.
"$0.99c?" I thought, "For an anthology of 24 novels? How can you go wrong?"
This is how.

I have read, in full, the first eight out of the 24 novels. I have read in part, or taken a good look at, novels 9 to 16. At which point I felt it not worth continuing. So, if there's a good book among the last eight, my apologies to the author/s.

Good news. There are at least two well-written novels in this anthology, of which one did not disappoint.
The first is Shereen Vedam's The Coven at Callington. This was a fine piece of work involving witches, warlocks, church guards and some very nice intrigue, action, and a winning romance - between a witch and a church guard, no less.
The second well-written novel was When the Gods Laughed by Lydia Sherrer, who nevertheless ought to be ashamed of herself, because this was the most appalling cliffhanger of what felt like half a book that I've yet seen. Nevertheless her great characterization - and it really was great - and tense plot kept me hooked in spite of the fact that this is not a genre I'm fond of. Presumably this added to my being left bereft at the end of the novel.
There are a (merged) pair of short novels by Isaac Hooke, The Forever Gate that were okay. Quite readable, engaging, not bad.

The other books among the first eight were poor. I ploughed through them dutifully. To generalise, their flaws tended to weak and very often stereotypical characterization; I found the writing frequently juvenile in its expectations of the characters and choice of plot points. I also felt that the authors were often betrayed by their ambition in trying to write beyond their own knowledge, sometimes sailing so far beyond their experience that no landmarks were in sight.
Rather worn out by the work required to get through the first eight books, I began to dismiss books quite quickly after reading a few pages, or a few chapters, as soon as there was adequate evidence that these books were going to be of a similar standard to the first eight (other than those I have described as well-written). Books 9 to 16 in the anthology all failed this partial assessment.
At this point I decided I'd wasted enough time and effort on this anthology and abandoned it.

This would be a one star review except that I felt it would be unfair to, particularly, Vedam and Hooke. So I upped it to two stars.

Note: The anthology appears to have been withdrawn from Amazon.

Lovely collection!! If you're wanting to spend a few hours thoroughly entertained this should be on your TBR pile <3 My absolute favorite was by Ali Winters and was entitled A Sky of Shattered Stars ♡♡♡♡ Oriana is one strong lady, she's strong of spirit and self. She has a lot to learn of her world and is up to the tasks. When her world falls apart she rises to the occasion and leads! Add in a fellow or two and the story just adds more!!! More suspense, more intrigue, more heart pulling drama and one powerhouse of a tale that will leave you breathless!

I've only had one book that really captured my attention in this collection. As of right now, I am putting it back till I have the gumption to finish it. So far here are the books I have read.

Our Dark Stars by Audrey Grey & Krystal Wade
Rating: 4.5 stars

A sci-fi that goes back and forth between Talia and Will every chapter. Fleshers are humans, mocks machines. Come to find out later a human that ends up with machine parts becomes a splicer.

Fair warning spoilers!!!

You are a Starchaser Princess. Pain is not only expected but welcomed.

Talia is being married off to a prince for an alliance. The mocks are in a rebellion with the humans. Talia’s life is changing but it all comes down to one crucial moment when her future husband demands her to make a decision between her family and her best friend.

That’s when Will realized the bastard had tricked him into acting.
He was human.
He was savage.
And he just confirmed it.

Will use to be human. Then his mock father found him and made him part machine, made him a splicer. He lost his position as one of the top flies when he missed a ship full of fleshers. Now he’s trying to prove his loyalty only his mock brother isn’t making it easy. He may have found something though that might help. He just can’t screw it up.

I love the characters in this. It almost felt Star Wars at times but it also felt original at the same time. I have been having a pretty icky year coming to books but right now this one broke through.

It almost became my first five-star review but the ending with the queen was a bit lackluster. But I still loved it! On to the next book!!!

The Forever Gate by Isaac Hooke
Rating: DNF no rating

I can’t get past the way this is written. I don’t mind the concept. It seems intriguing but I can’t get past it. I’m bored and I couldn’t really care about the characters.

Just not for me.

The Flames of Death by Nicole Zoltack
Rating: 2.5 stars

I have read Nicole Zoltack before and loved her work. I have read her fairy-tale retellings and loved the twist she had on the villains of the stories.

I was quite disappointed with this book. I couldn’t get into it and I could not care about the characters. This one wasn’t for me.

If it is a collection, anthology or box set I am always buying them and hoping that I find new authors to read! This collection was bought because it had books that were part of series that I definitely wanted to read as well as a few stories that I wanted to read just from this set! I realize that not every story in the collection will be for everyone but that is what is so great about box sets, many books for the price of one in hopes that readers will find a new author to explore.

***This Review is for Our Dark Stars by Audrey Grey and Krystal Wade.***
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, This doesn't in any way influence my opinion on it.
description

description
Our Dark Stars is a book I've been eager for ever since I heard about the collaboration. Audrey Grey is one of my favorite authors, I've devoured every single one of her books. I am fairly new to Krystal Wade's writing but I picked up a book of hers before this one to familiarise myself and she's definitely amazing. With the culmination of two uber talented authors, Our Dark Stars was bound to be phenomenal and believe me, It is.
Our Dark Stars, a SciFi retelling of Sleeping Beauty with numerous unique twists and turns is about Will and Talia.
Princess Talia Starchaser is the daughter/heir of the Sovereign, the ruler of the Seven Planets. To protect the Starchaser Dynasty, Talia is pawned off to a prince from another planet in the form of marriage. Androids built in the forms of humans and programmed with emotions (called mocks) are a common acquisition in their world and Talia has a personal one as a companion named Ailat. Ailat is meant to help shape Talia into a ruler. But the girls have built a friendship that borders on the edge of sisterhood. They've grown together, had adventures together and kept secrets for each other. But unfortunately, the mocks are becoming sentient and making decisions by themselves (leading to Rebellion against the empire). The mocks hated the way the were treated and decided to take matters into their own hand.
The issue wasn't taking seriously until luck and some mistakes on Talia's part led to the mocks overthrowing the Starchaser Dynasty and wiping out the proud monarch family except Talia who was lucky enough to escape. Talia was placed in a pod and frozen in other to preserve the future of the Stachaser Family.
She is found over a hundred years later by an irritable hybrid mock (Born human turned mock) Captain Will Perrault and his unscrupulous crew made of mocks. After a particularly embarrassing fall from grace, Will is eager to get back in favor of the Mock Queen. And every single fibre of his soul assures him Talia is the key to doing exactly just that. His suspicions are confirmed when the queen sends people after the lost flesher (the derogatory term mocks use for humans. BTW humans are now mostly slaves and are regarded as lesser beings).
Talia is away from everything she's ever known and lost in a time that isn't hers in a world whose order is different from what she's used to. She instantly clashes with Will, their fiery and feisty chemistry helps elevate the tension between them. He suspects she lied to him after she gave them a false story of her origins and he was determined to break past her shell and unearth her secrets.
I love this two together so much, apart from their crazy amazing hot chemistry, they're so obviously two halves of a whole. They fit in a way that completes each other, apart they're two bright stars but together they are a blazing inferno.
She makes Will question all he's known and shakes the foundation of his belief while drawing him into the light. He makes her a better version of her self by making her see the world through entirely new lenses.
The whole crew is also another amazing aspect of this book, while they might not be well oiled tight knit family, they are efficient and quite entertaining. The action is also pretty spiffy, It's SciFi deliciousness in all it's glory. Intergalactic battles, space chases, gun fights (with cools gadgets), creative and resourceful manoeuvres. It's all intricately structured. There are a few elements of Fantasy in it to that is even more enjoyable (though no magic).
There is a lot of attention to detail (in a good way) and this always leaves a vivid picture in mind. The battles and fights are so well described I could feel every heightened emotion and the rush of adrenaline, especially one epic showdown close to the end.
The ending was simply brilliant and a perfect destination for the journey each character has been on from the beginning. There was surprises, twists and turns, some I saw coming and some I didn't. I really can't wait to see more of this characters eventually. Audrey Grey and Krystal Wade have made a masterpiece with Our Dark Stars and I happily recommend it to everyone, please you need this book in your life.

So far, I've only been able to read Audrey Grey & Krystal Wade's book, Our Dark Stars, but if that's the only thing I get time for, I'm BEYOND happy. This book was like sleeping beauty meets cult classic show Firefly in space. I love the alternating pov's, the deep world building that Audrey Grey is known for, and the quick, fast paced plot. There was the exact right amount of action to dialogue ratio. Exact right amount of information given at the exact right time. We are never left too long to guess and speculate as to what happens next. This is a world where we are constantly shown rather than be told what's going on.
I didn't think I was a big sci-fi fan, but apparently these authors know my tastes better than I know myself. Please grab this box set, PLEASE read this book as soon as humanly possible. 10 stars. #notjoking PS, I read this in 24 hours. I plan on reading it again very soon!

Such A Secret Place by Cortney Pearson
The author created really interesting World where people don't feel emotions and use Magic.
The heroine is a girl that can't use Magic at All. One day she and Her friend decide to get tears (here They are magical). She met a boy Talon. He wants only one thing from her - teras.
Join them in their adventures against an army. Is our protagonist that weak?
Interesting beginning.

This review is for REPLICA by Kelly Hashway.

Life in Theoria is great. In fact, it's perfect.

Emily Saunders lives in Theoria, and experimental town where you know who your mate will be, what profession you will go into, and even how many children you will have. It's all laid out for you. Perfect, right? But Emily questions why these decisions can't be her own. She wants something more out of life.

The outside world knows nothing about the existence of Theoria. The only people who live in Theoria got there in one of two ways: they were founders, or they were born there. Until Jake Masterson arrives.

The names of all residents are etched into the wall, along with the name of their designated mate. When Jake's name suddenly appears on the wall with Emily as her mate, the leaders become suspicious.

Jake finds Emily and tries to convince her and her mate, Gabe, that there is something wrong in Theoria. And Emily needs to find out why someone etched Jake's name in the wall with her as his mate.

A thrilling Sci-Fi adventure, REPLICA will make you question life as you know it. Do we really have free will to choose our own lives? A must-read, this story will pull you in from the beginning and not let you go!

I can't wait to read the entire boxed set!

***This review is for Our Dark Stars by Audrey Grey and Krystal Wade***
I don't even know where to start. I adored this book. Audrey Grey is one of my favorite authors and this book didn't disappoint. I loved the storyline and how unique the concept is. The characters were strong, relatable, and unforgettable. Everyone stays true to themselves and there was never trouble identifying the "voice" of the characters. I will say a tiny drawback is that it was often predictable so all the moments that are supposed to be suspenseful didn't quite have the impact it was meant to. But the writing more than made up for that.

I will definitely read this book again and I already can't wait for the sequel as well as the other promised sequels to Grey's other series!!!
