⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2! El Santo, book 1 of 2. 20-year love saga following 9-year old Amira & her larger-than-life ward, Damien Montero, “El Santo”!

“He was the beginning to my end or maybe it was the end to my beginning.”

Books in duet should be read in order:
Book 1: El Santo
Book 2: El Pecador

“I may have saved her life.
But she kept me alive.”

El Santo (book 1) is the opening to an intriguing saga that will span two decades. 18-year old regime enforcer Damien Montero aka “El Santo” becomes the ward of 9-year old Amira aka Muñeca after he is involved in the brutal murder of her family.

It’s an evolving forbidden love that can never be…

As Amira grows up hidden from the regime, Damien is a player in its viscous charade of power, violence and greed. He wants to shelter her from his cruel world. Besides she is the much too young orphan of a traitor.

It’s still Amira’s hope that one day Damien will claim her…

Told from dual POVs, is whirlwind tale of a impossible love set against violence, power, greed, death, betrayal and secrets. Center stage a conflicted and aloof El Santo. From mid-book it was an addicting unraveling of events and a candid glimpse into a doomed affair. I cannot wait for book 2, El Pecador for the conclusion of their saga.

The perfect blend of intrigue, suspense, love, shockers and heartbreak!

“The night Damien entered my life was the best and worst day of my existence.”

This book is a fucking sh*tfest.

Ugh...I'm so angry right now. I don't even know where to start. Firstly the H meets the h when he 18 and she is 9. In their first meeting he kills her family in front of her. And yes he also fucks her virgin sister before killing her. Then he saves the little girl. Years goes by and he looks after her with his caretaker. The heroine behaves like a dog with the Hero. I mean it's like he is her owner and she is looking for every bread crumbs he throws for her. She is too desperate for him. And the Hero.....well he keeps telling himself that he cares for her and she is his everything. But he still whores around and then have a steady girlfriend who he eventually marries. He even fucks his gf in front of her.

I hate such coward heroes. I don't give a damn that he is some kind of killer or is a revolutionary leader. If you can't be a man enough to own your love then you are a looser. If he can't have the heroine then fine but he didn't need to marry someone else. And I dreaded reading the H's pov. And when he started telling about his honeymoon with his gf and then saying that he fucked her on every corner of the hotel suite...I was done. It didn't even matter to me anymore that his so called gf was actually some kind of a spy.

I hate the moment I added this worst book in my tbr list. And no offense to anyone who liked this book. It's just my opinion and maybe the worst book I have read.

‘El Santo:’ Is the first book in M. Robinson’s (The Saint) Series. This is Damien & Amira’s story, it’s not a pretty story, but it’s their story.

First off we meet eighteen year old Damien, son of Emilio, who is the right hand man of Emilio Salazar, a ruthless Cuban dictator, soon it will be Damien’s time to follow in his leaders footsteps.

I was already conditioned for battle. Taught how to shoot a gun by the time I was five, trained how to fight and kill with my bare hands before I even entered high school.

But something happens that even Damien wasn’t prepared for, a test of sorts, he went in as a scared boy but came out a man who will never be the same again.

A little girl's family was just wiped out in the blink of an eye and now Damien has taken it upon himself to protect her, to hide her from ones that would love to see her blood seep out.

We grow to love her through the years from a scared child to a young lady, we also see Damien feeling things for Amira that he tries to hide from, a man that feels nothing to one that felt too much. A heart wrenching, soul crushing bond like no other.

This was Damien's and Amira's time to shine, two souls entwined forever by a soul crushing tragedy that had my heart in my throat, a twist that I was glad came out of nowhere, one minute I was thinking the worst of him to the next where I loved what M. Robinson had done. A true risk where he put his life on the line to save one small girl who fast became his everything.

I'm not going to lie I struggled with this one, the beginning grabbed me by the throat, the heart, the feels came rushing at me out of nowhere, then it kind of just fell flat from there for me, don't get me wrong I freaking love this author, I've read ALL her books, and have loved them ALL. I guess when it came to this book I expected more, more angst, more bloodshed considering he's a soldier of one of the most feared men in Cuba, this has been one of my most highly anticipated books for the year, I couldn't wait to read it, inhale it, but sadly it just missed it's mark.

Even though this wasn't one of my favourites by this author I'm still anticipating the next book..

"The devotion. The adoration. The love..."
description

El Santo is the first book in the Saint-Sinner Duet. M. Robinson is the queen of angst and she certainly did not disappoint. With an addictive blend of action, intrigue, passion, and romance, El Santo had me hooked from the first page until the very last.

description
"I'm so fucking in love with you, Muñeca."
Damien Montero is no stranger to death and darkness. Being raised as a soldier in communist Cuba, he is being groomed to take down the many enemies that surround him. As always with violence and corruption, many innocent lives are lost. Amidst the chaos and killings, a young girl named Amira ends up in his care. As the years pass it is evident that Damien and Amira have a special bond that surpasses that of a "big brother/little sister" bond. Damien is adamant to keep his Muñeca sheltered from the darkness of his world. Despite his best efforts to keep a platonic relationship between them eventually, the attraction begins to build between the two. They are like two magnets constantly pushing and pulling together. The only thing for Damien to do is to hurt Amira by pushing her away in order to keep her safe. But is Damien truly strong enough to stay away?

description
"He fell. We met somewhere in the middle. My entire world spun out of control, and so did his as I shuddered beneath him..."
Told in dual POV, El Santo is an epic story of love and loss. As the story spans several years we see the depth of their relationship grow. Every time Damien pushes Amira away, I thought my heart was going to break in two. The plot is complex with multiple players all trying to get what they want. I found the relationships between the characters to be intense and endearing. The plot unfolds at a rapid pace as the stakes are high for these characters to overcome. Cuba is certainly its own character as the rich culture colors the text on every page. Each moment reveals more intrigue as the plot unfolds. Although there was a great deal of angst (due to the longing Damien and Amira have to be together), I felt the timing of their relationship was true to their ages and circumstances. Be forewarned, there is a slight cliffy that will certainly leave you hanging in wait for the next book to be released. Thankfully those last moments are so steamy you won't be too upset as you will want to re-read and re-live those moments again and again.

description

Overall, I highly recommend El Santo to anyone who enjoys action, intrigue, and forbidden romance. I have long been a fan of Ms. Robinson's work and once again she has created an epic story that I will never forget. I have high hopes for Damien and Amira to find their HEA! No doubt, M has an epic conclusion in mind for them.

well, hawt damn...

Well, fuck it...this story already has gathered mixed reviews and ratings...

but honestly, this was, in fact, a very well written story backed up with a historical scenery that I found crucial for further development of the characters and their interactions...
My story is going to make you fucking hate me as much as she does, but I want you to. I’m not looking for your forgiveness. I don’t deserve it like I don’t deserve hers.
I’m far from the hero in this story.
I’m closer to the villain.
Except, I’m far worse.
I’m the fucking monster.
And, I’m perfectly alright with that.

Yeah, what he said...

So, the main male character, Damien aka El Santo who is not a hero, as you might romantically envision, he's a product of the society and political surroundings of communist Cuba, born and groomed into the represive military regime and dictature
I was trained to be that solider. That warrior. The one who bled for my fatherland.
Died for my fucking leader.
My duty was to my country.

and having that in mind, you can't regard him alone through his actions that you don't like, cause yes, there are plenty of them, it's complex, it's complicated and it's never that easy to just paint it all in black & white, even though that is what we all do, so eagerly....

So when he's pressed to the the crimes and gruesome things he firmly believed were the wrong things to do, he gave up on that emotional part of his soul, until a final decision to end a life makes him look inside of himself just for an instant.

That instant changed a destiny of Amira, a 9 year old girl whose family was murdered by Emilio Salvarez' men, monsters of the dictatorship, and to which Damon unwillingly participated...when she was took in hiding by Damon, one of the military men but not a monster, never a monster in her eyes.

The time passes by and she grew developing strong feelings towards her protector, at first platonic but the love was never the question here...until Damon broke her heart to protect her, to keep her safe from Emilio's prying eyes...
There was no way in hell we could ever be together. My life revolved around Emilio Salazar, and I tried for too fucking long to make them both coexist in my life.

Damon did just that, against his own better judgement, aware of the fact that he could never have a life with Amira, and that she would never be safe if he went public to announce her existence, they'd probably got shot dead as traitors...
My protection for Amira now was to push her away, even though it almost fucking killed me to do so.

he did the best he could, by pushing her away, by destroying her dreams of him as a hero, he needed to rip out the look of devotion in her eyes so she could exist in the shadows but stay safe...

No matter the fact that her piece of his soul died with it.
For a few moments, I had all of her…
Her mind.
Her body.
Her soul.
Her heart.
They all came back to me, like they had never left to begin with.
They’ve always been mine.

I’m sorry, Muñeca. For the past, for now, for the future… for everything

I liked the story, not as much as El Diablo, though...but I guess, it will take a whole other level to top that one LOL but it's start...*wink*

Again, Mrs. Robinson's (lol, pun intended, those of you who've watched the movie The Graduate will understand and appreciate my reference, those of you who haven't-the fuck are you waiting for?! Lol) writing is fluent and impeccable, and you just cruise through every word in motion and you can't really stop to think where you are at, only to be left with emotional blast and mind wreckage of another suspenseful cliffy....

Well there you have it folks. There’s no need to wonder if this hero is going to sweep you off of your feet with his swoon worthy words or melt your heart with a romantic gesture you never saw coming. If you’re holding your breath for that, kindly exhale right the fuck now because that’s not going to happen!

Damien “El Santo” is NOT your prince charming. He’s the guy that your mom would throw holy water on while clutching her rosary beads and praying for the devil to get out of him. Growing up in Cuba and having to survive his surroundings in a Communist environment, has made him see things differently. Being second in command to the most feared and ruthless man in the country, is a blessing and a curse but when the only thing you know is blood, fear and power, your choices are no longer your own.

After going through a horrific family tragedy, Amira is now adjusting to a whole new life without her loved ones. Vowing to protect and take care of her by any means necessary, Damien has made it his mission to see her Amira happy and turn into a well adjusted young girl. But as time goes by and their bond becomes stronger, there are just some things you can’t escape and being a foot soldier is one of them. Will Damien be able to keep his promise in protecting Amira? Or will something else keep them apart for good?

"One day soon, I won't be the man who saved her. I'll just be another fucking monster who haunts her dreams".

OK so I’m going to be really honest right now and say that for the most part, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and Damien and Amira’s long awaited journey. I loved their past and how their connection was developed on a simple purity act, and I freakin LOVED how much Damien cared for her. He didn’t have to say that he loved her because we FELT it in every action that he did good or bad. But……. With that being said, I just couldn’t get on board with some of his choices and quite frankly, it pissed me off. I wanted him to change his course because I KNEW it wasn’t going to end well but like he said, he’s not the hero in this story.

Now as for the ending? I can’t even articulate what I want to say right now without being flagged or dropping too much f bombs in this review!!! Why?! Just why?! That’s what I would like to know because that cliffhanger was….

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And I’m going to leave it at that. This is the part where I tell you if you love this and that..., then you should read this book.I won’t be doing it and instead this is a caution warning.: Looking to get extremely fucked up and frustrated while desperately wanting more? Then this one is for you! Hope you have liquor *drops mic.

Epic must-read and another top favorite!

★★ SPOILER-FREE REVIEW ★★

Another phenomenal and must-read of 2017 by the Queen of Angst! How does she do it? I swear, this author can take you on a magic carpet ride and transport you back in time when such important events were taking place in the world. This is what M Robinson does; her spellbinding words capture us hook line and sinker and we never want to let go. You think you know... but be prepared ‘cus you know nothing about El Santo! Damien and Amira were EVERYTHING and I absolutely loved them together! They are my new favorite couple! #Soulmates #TeamDamira It’s stories like this, with unforgettable and unique storylines that stay with us forever. If you loved El Diablo and The Good Ol’ Boys, then you’ll love El Santo as it’s a blend of both. You get the angst and the asshole hero who no matter how hard you try to hate, will win you over! As for me, I will go and wallow in misery because the book is over and I want more!

"I didn't deserve her. I never asked for her."

I'm going with 4 Stars because even though I hated MANY of Damien Montero's actions, I did like him for the most part... strangely. He is super protective of Amira to a fault and sadly most of the time to their demise.

The story was well written and paced with just the right amount of hope that it is a love story?

El Santo is a sinful poignant compulsive read that masterfully and cunningly highlights M. Robison’s ability to play with our hearts, emotions and conscience. Good vs. Bad. Right vs. Wrong. Saint vs. Sinner. And through it all, Robinson allows her readers to be immersed in all the feels. Feel the visceral connections of her characters. Feel their burden, pain, struggles, despair and most importantly the yearning.

ElSanto

In the field of human behavior, the topic of nature versus nurture has always come into play and for Damien, his childhood and nationality has been something ingrained in him that has caused him to be one of those characters living in his own purgatory. As a young Cuban boy who grew up in a Communist environment, he knew three things. Power, Fear, and Death. And for Damien to witness and be part of a Communist lifestyle, it has shaped him for the better and for the worse. Regardless of whether you define him as a sinner or saint, Damien is who he is. A man living in his own sins and demons. And most importantly, a man accepting his own fate that is until Amira comes into his life.

Amira is one of the characters that takes you by surprise. It is her strength, devotion and trust in Damien that makes you see the light in Damien. As much light she brings in him, she too also shines some darkness as she is a constant reminder of the sins he has committed. And so in this book, readers are immersed and taken onto a journey where right, wrong, love, hate, passion, lust, and lies are interwoven into a story that is a pendulum of emotions and angst.

El Santo is a story that depicts raw human emotions at the core. A battle of conscience. A battle of nature. A battle of nurture. A battle of love. A battle of lies. A battle of surviving. And so if you are ready to discover why Damien and Amira loving each other’s is each other’s heaven and hell then this book is for you.

Umm okay, I have a confession. If I haven't read "El Diablo" (another book of M.Robinson's...), I'd give 5 stars to this book but whenever I read a new book from this author, I immediately looking for another character just like Alejandro Martinez (El Diablo). I know, I know... This is my fault and because of that I didn't enjoy too much from this book. But anyway I still recommend this book to you. Who knows maybe you'll love it more than me... ;)

And pls don't forget to give a chance "El Diablo" . So far it's my favorite book of M.Robinson. <3
Trust me, Alejandro Martinez is going to rock your world. :D

How can I put into words what this book has done to me. I cannot seem to find the right words that will give this book the review that it deserves. I mean how can one truly express the way that an author was able to reach into your chest and rip out your heart, all the while she is standing in front of you smiling while she is holding your bleeding heart. Well this is what M. Robinson did with this book. I was left in an emotional tailspin that I am normally never in. This book was able to take you through a tidal wave of emotions, that engulfs you into your ocean of emotions to the point where you don't know if you're going to be able to come up for air.

I found myself loving, then hating, and then feeling remorse for Damien. There wasn't a time that I did not find this character to be anything other than perfect. The perfect mixture of an asshole, lover and broken soul that was needed to make up this character. Amira was able to make my emotions go from love to pride and to empathy for her. She was a strong character, yet she also had her weaknesses that made her human. It was this emotional tug-of-war that these characters put you through that made this story the piece of art that it is.

This book reads the same as The Good O'l Boys series. It starts with getting to know Amira and Damien in their younger years and takes you through all the trials and tribulations that life throws at them.
It's pure, its innocence, its savage, its brutal, its heartbreaking. You're going to be taken to the highest of highs only to be suddenly plummeting on a down ward spiral to the lowest of lows.
I'm still on the fence with how I feel about Damien. It certainly is a love/hate relationship with him.
M. Robinson wasn't pulling any punches when she said that he isn't a good man and it has scratching my head wondering if he is redeemable. Only time will tell.

What.The.Fucking.Hell??? Lawd! I have been out of my fucking mind the moment I hit Chapter 22 of this book. I am known for cussing author when I am being passionate but, I am telling you Monica Robinson.. yeah you M, I am yelling curses at you now in the highest volume I can muster, with bulging eyes, nose sticking out with nostrils flared and blood rushing through my face. Gah! With this profanities, I will be the devil's right hand in no time!

El Santo.. where should I begin? I honestly don't know what to say or where to even begin this, but just to let it out... El Santo took me out of my book slump the moment I read the first Chapter. Man, I have been patiently/impatiently waiting for this book that I relished it from start to finish. It grabbed me and I don't want to let go. I am stunned speechless because M. Robinson always delivers. This time she did it with fucking class in a world of heartbreak, cruelty and raw passion, power and intensity, leaving me with my heart shattered to bits of pieces and my mind out of my sanity.

What can I say? This is M. Robinson and her all things angsty. Damien Montero..gah! This man consumed me despite my hate-love relationship with him. His complexity made my blood boil yet I loved him to pieces. He's a sinner more than a saint yet his darkness made me captivated with him. On the other hand, Amira's innocence and resilience got me. This woman had so much to suffer but I admire her strenght and her will to move on. Together their connection is undeniable and uncontrollable. Their like fire that keeps on burning and that's what made me keep on reading more of their journey. With Damien trying to hold back with all his might and Amira fighting for it. Ahhhh... how I feel for them with all my heart.

Again, Monica nailed it, this time leaving me with this inexplainable feeling I just want to yell at the rooftops for you all to read it or just cuss out M. Maybe both, yeah read the book and cuss M after. El Santo lived through his name and the evil queen M that she is, weaved his story with so much gritty and powerful feels that all throughout I was in the edge anticipating for the next scene. For a while I was so lost, I was craving for more. I needed more. I was burning with so much passion and need .I was so hungry for Damien and Amira. I was at that point where I wanted to hold on to something I just couldn't grasp. When I hit the ending, I understood why. Lawd have mercy on my beating heart!

Overall, this book is must read. There's a reason why you need to trust an author. I am so glad I did with M. I trusted her brilliant imagination and excellent writing skills to take me to a journey worth riding. I enjoyed it. I love how it took me to the edge, wanting and begging for more. I just love EL Santo!

Do me a favor, Read El Santo. Don't thank me. Cuss M after.

M. Robinson is an evil genius. Damien is a man who should hate, despise and not want to succeed, but that's exactly what you will do while reading this story.

From his childhood, he was untarnished but was meant to be a man with a force to be reckoned with, but he developed a soft spot in his heart for her...always her. Watching this unmarred young man become a tortured man will break your heart at times and then make you curse his name (often and loudly). The twists and turns and ups and downs will make your head spin and blood pressure skyrocket.

Every moment of this book had me on high alert, making my emotions manic at times, soaring for Damien and Amira and then plummeting to anguish the next.

There is a reason many refer M. Robinson as the "Queen of Angst, " and she has delivered her well know writing style with grace and beauty and a hefty dose of angst in El Santo.

It's past time these authors stop labeling this stuff as "romance" when they are really writing fiction/drama/thriller/horror. This isn't even dark romance; it's a glorification of so many levels of abuse. Be honest with yourself and the reading audience about the true nature of the story and the kind of content being sold.

Kudos to I_love_books for the honest review:

Title: El Santo (Saint-Sinner #1)
Author: M. Robinson
Genre: Dark Romance, Suspense
Publication: November 16, 2017

I kid you not. I kept an alarm on my phone for this book. The moment it went live, I clicked the Buy button so fast. Why? Because I love everything M. Robinson has ever written. Her book El Diablo?! OMG *insert scream* I love that book! I've re-read that book so many times!

A little disclaimer: M.Robinson's books are raw- filled with greed, power, lust and revenge. Everything Dark...All things addictive!

El santo was a slow burn kind of romance with all the fast paced greed, violence and power you could possibly ask for! Confused? Damien and Amira's development into "something" was slow but you didn't feel like you were missing out on anything- There was so much violence, suspense, angst and sexual tension going on that you'll be satisfied no matter what! This book gripped me from the very first chapter and I loved it!

Do NOT expect Mr.Prince charming in this book- If you do, you will be throughly disappointed. Damien is brutal but atleast he is honest about it.

Now I don't know what to say here except the truth, That ending? That bloody cliffhanger?! If you were next to me when I finished the book, you would have wanted to clean my mouth because my god! 'Simple' profanities will not suffice for the sheer ... let's call it 'emotions' that I went through.. I mean What the ever loving god! My poor heart!

I can't wait for part 2! Read the damn book people! hahaha!

Nooooooooooo! Monica Robinson, you're an evil beast! How could you do that? How?

description

This book messed with my head and, of course, my heart.
It's intense, captivating and evil.

description

So many questions I need answering. So many theories and reasons running through my mind. Every time I thought I knew a little of what's what, Monica pulled another twist out her bag of fucked-up tricks and threw me off. I fell in love with every words of her. I want more like right now.!

And last but not least, I LOVE YOU, Damien Montero!

Its a very intriguing concept of the Beast having a Heart.
Damien is an impressionable boy , son of Emilio, right hand man of Salazar, a Cuban dictator. He calls himself "Revolutionary Rebel Leader" Emilio's misplaced loyalties help mold the boy into a military commander, ready to take his place. In that mission he desensitizes and dehumanes the boy, turning him into ambitious and stone hearted,. At least thats what he hopes!!

All you did was personally create me , for him

Damien is not all Brainless Brawn, he has a Heart full of compassion too
His Test of Loyalty is going to be the death of his hopes, dreams and his loyal family too
The story is written very well. Monica is a Mistress of Angst. Her words make you laugh, weep, lust and cry. The story runs at breakneck speed, Damien being the eye of the storm ,as his world is spinning around him, emotions , loyalties up in the air , hitting him like debris.
Ameera is a fantastic character. Shy, confused, implanted and now abandoned. She keeps trying to adjust and adapt . Her heart is pure and loyal and constantly crushed by Damien.
I loved the smooth flow and touchy, emotionally broken characters.
The story shall remain with you for long after.

M. Robinson has done it again with El Santo.

Every time I pick up one of her books I tell myself that this is the time that she isn't going to f*ck with my head and my emotions.

Nope. She did it again!

After we very quickly met Damien in the end of El Diablo, I was expecting the story to be something else. However the story she has given us was so completely different, and so completely amazing.

Damien really is a man we should hate, should despise him actually. But I couldn't do it. As the story progresses, there are so many things that are wrong, however he does so much right.

I don't want to give too much away about the love interest in this story, but believe me, it will surprise you who they are.

I was anxious the whole time I was reading El Santo. I couldn't help it. I knew that Ms Robinson was going to mess with me, There is a reason she is known by her readers as the "Queen of Angst". I believe the new term for her is also #Soulsucker - both titles are well deserved.

El Santo does end on a cliffhanger, however nobody does a cliffhanger like M. Robinson. Even though I was tapping on my kindle, looking for more pages, it didn't bother me that it was cliffied. And we only have a couple of months to wait for the next installment!

If you are after a read that will have you on the edge of your seat, that will have you pulling your hair out, that will have you yelling at your Kindle - read El Santo.

Can't wait for part 2.

This book is unputdownable.

The Queen of Angst has done it again.

She's written another page-turning story that made both my heart and mind race as the story unfolds.
Her background in psychology is evident not only the development of her characters but in the twists that you never see coming.
It's what made me fall in love with her books from the start.

Have you ever heard the Dolly Parton quote - "If you want the rainbow, you’ve got to put up with the rain"?
That comes to mind when reading M.'s books.
I never know what kind of storm my heart will have to endure, but every new book she writes, my grabby hands can't get a hold of it fast enough.

I loved and highlighted SO MANY awesome quotes, but I don't want to spoil anything by including them here.
There are so many kickass, "mic drop" moments and then a few that left me in a puddle of goo.
You'll see what I mean as you're reading.

Damien Montero, what can I say?
He can be an asshole, but I still love him.
He made my heart frown, my eyes cry, my mouth cuss at him, my brain question his intentions and stomach swoon - and sometimes all in the same chapter.
I love complex men who are fearless, strong and confident and Damien has those qualities in spades.

description

I also absolutely love the heroine, Amira.
She’s smart, funny, fearless, resilient, compassionate, loyal, feisty and strong.
My favorite kind of female character.

description

My love for both characters, an unpredictable plot and sitting on the edge of my seat while reading makes this 5-star book a definite re-read for the future.

Once again M. Robinson has given us a story that twist the mind, the heart and every emotion in between. Always known for her love to hate them alpha’s El Santo does not disappoint. Amira just might be her strongest female lead yet. The connection between these two characters is binding for life and you can feel every heartbeat between the two. Just remember to get your M. Robinson survival kits ready for the emotional rollercoaster of this story.

4.5 burn in the darkness with you. stars

El Santo is the telling of the beginning, a man who dares you to love him. After all his sins and his past, he’s convinced I would hate him with a passion, but here’s the thing. I Don’t. Beneath it all is the sinner and the saint, one who is capable of both pain and pleasure, care and destruction, love and hate. It's a gritty, raw and angst filled tale that took me from the start, and dragged my poor emotions to the end, until the life he lived chose the path for him. There is only one way to save those you love …. turn away from the light and head straight into the darkness and be the man they all feared you would be.

El Santo is a tortured soul doing what he needed to do for the few he truly loved. A crazy-f*****d ride, that devours you. If you're a lover of the dark side and can handle the beauty of the angst, then this is the story for you. While this may just be the beginning, it’s definitely not the end.

THIS IS ME YELLING FROM THE ROOF TOPS.....READ THIS ONE!

I did not know what to expect when I started this book, but I picked it up to read a chapter or two just to see what I may in for....the next thing I knew I had read more than half the book and there was no end in sight for me to stop reading. I was captivated by a monster, he scared me, I wanted to hate him, and that's what kept me reading. I had no idea where this story was headed, every time I thought I had an idea, I had the rug pulled out from me and I had to keep reading. I would have read in one sitting if I did not take a split second to look at my clock on my nightstand to see it was almost 3AM! OMG, how is that possible, I could have sworn I just started reading. I forced myself to close my Kindle....but lo and behold I picked it up again this morning, I had to finish.

This man is no saint, he is a monster, and trust me when I say, you won't call him a liar!

My Musings...
5 Written in the Stars CROWNS
M. Robinson is another author that gets it when it comes to anti-heroes, consistently making me fall in love with bad men and violent criminals. Plus, I always enjoy the emotional angst and drama that her story-lines provide, and El Santo is just another example of each of the aforementioned attributes.

Damien is a man forced into evil and into committing atrocious acts in order to survive and save himself. However, as the novel progresses, these attributes become a part of who he is, slowly changing the young man in the beginning of the novel to the cold-hearted killer as the novel progresses. The act that stimulates the beginning of his evolution as a character is not only hard to witness, but it allows the reader to see a glimpse of young man readers want him to be as well as the killer they will come to know. It also serves as a moment of self-realization that only serves to further convince him of his lack of goodness, ultimately affecting his relationship with Amira. The dichotomy of his character only continues to grow from here, as we get to see his heart when he is with Amira and Rosario, but we also get to see the dangerous and lethal side of him, giving readers that hero we have come to expect and love from this author.

Just like Damien is the hero readers have come to expect from the author, so Amira is the heroine we have come to need, a woman, although young, who can challenge and be equal to the dominant and often hard hero of the story. Amira as suffered considerable loss, which ultimately shapes who she becomes as she ages. What readers find, though, is that with each passing year, she has not only made a new home, but she has found happiness among the sadness and horror that plagued her. She maintains the core essence of who she is, and she wants to share that with the people she loves. As she ages, though, she begins to develop a level of fearlessness in her interactions with Damien, causing readers to respect her and, for a time, forget the youth that she is. Readers will ultimately enjoy her character because of her bravery, her courage, and her resiliency.

El Santo is book one in the series, but don't be scared by the prospect of a cliff-hanger. While the story does end in the middle of the narrative between Damien and Amira, it ends in a way that leaves me feeling good with waiting for book two, due to release in January. This story sets everything up. M. Robinson spends this time developing these characters, giving readers a complete understanding of what motivates them. She also spends time creating their relationship, moving them from caretaker to more. She gets readers to invest in them as a couple, makes us empathize with what happens to them individually and as a pair as the novel progresses. With book one, she has effectively sucked me into this evil and dangerous world, and, although she left my heart a bit tattered and bruised at the end, she will put it back together in book two after putting readers through another round of heart shattering angst.

El Santo is another must read from M. Robinson. I cannot get enough of these age-gap forbidden romances with the dark and twisted plots. I am always enraptured by her stories, and although it often hurts my heart to read them, M. Robinson never disappoints in the end, making my anticipation for book 2 that much stronger.
