In BEFORE HE HUNTS (A Mackenzie White Mystery--Book 8), victims are turning up dead in FBI Special Agent Mackenzie White's home state of Nebraska--all shot in the back of the head, and all bearing the card "Barker Antiques." The same card her father's murderer left on his body years ago.
With a sudden urgency in the present, the time has finally come for Mackenzie to face her ghosts, to face her darkest past, and to find her father's killer.
But her trip back down memory lane may take her to places she'd rather not see, and to discoveries she'd rather not find. She finds herself playing cat and mouse with a killer more sinister than she could imagine, and with her fragile psyche collapsing, this case, of all of them, may be the one that does her in for good.
A dark psychological thriller with heart-pounding suspense, BEFORE HE HUNTS is book #8 in a riveting new series--with a beloved new character--that will leave you turning pages late into the night.

8 books into the series, we finally find out who killed Mackenzie's father and why. All I can say is, "Really? Hmm." I expected more. I do love Mackenzie. I mean, obviously I have stuck around for 8 books. I plan to finish the series. I just hope that there is a return to the previous pattern of the series.
I do wish they would get a clue about choosing a proper narrator for the audiobooks. I love a British accent, but Mack is from Nebraska. I was delighted to find that there was a new narrator this time around, but my hopes were dashed. This narrator is even more puzzling. I can't exactly peg the accent. Shades of Britain and Ireland, but certainly not Nebraska. She has an odd way of dragging out her vowels and speaking in a lilting, sing songy voice. She makes the word fact sound like f#$%. I'm sure her voice is perfect for the bodice rippers and fantasy novels she typically narrates, but as a tough, young FBI agent, she falls flat.
I just have to say, I really don't like this narrator! She sounds like she's trying to be sultry or something, but it just isn't working!! It took away my enjoyment in this book and the next one for sure.. And what is with the british accents from both narrators?? The lead character is from Ohio for heaven's sake!!

I have guessed at the dates I read this. I read so many of them back to beck and never once thought about putting it on Goodreads. I read them when I go to bed.
I thought the books are great but I stopped saying the same thing about each book. I think anyone who likes murder mystery books will like all of Blake Pierce's books
3...FINALLY!!! The conclusion to Mac's dad's case!! Yet, the relationship drama was what held back the story this time around...well, and the narration, horrible! I really enjoy Mac, though...And this case did come together nicely. But still feels like tv drama...
Well, well! Though there are a few more books in the Mackenzie White series, I believe she & I have spent enough time together. This book wraps up, in an anticlimactic way, the case that has kept me tied to this series through 8, rather boring books. I have to say, I saved the best for last. In this book, as with the others in this series, Mackenzie got on my nerves. She acted in ridiculous, head strong ways. Poor Ellington, how & why did he put up with her. Anyway, here I say, “So long, Mackenzie. I doubt we will ever meet again”. There’s a whole world of books & characters out there just waiting for me to discover!
This is the book we have been waiting for, where we find out who killed Mac's dad. I have to admit that I'm very underwhelmed after finding out who and why, it was so mundane.
As much as I like Mac and Ellington together I feel like they shouldn't work together. There have been times both of them got pissy over little stuff, that doesn't bode well for their relationship.
Mac's mom and sister are both a hot mess. I can see why she doesn't really talk to either of them. I do wonder if that will change now. I also wonder how much Mac will change now that she knows the truth. It will make the next book interesting in a different way.
I don’t know how to feel about these books. I felt the book was repetitive. Always going back to nightmares and same information of her past over and over again. Also she was the one to always end up facing the killer by herself .I was reading cause the case of Mackenzie’s Father caught my attention . It was this big mystery . A puzzle that no one can solve . But at end it was just meh. I was hoping it would continue on in one way or the other . I was disappointed. Why did the killer wait all these years to act again?
With that being said I don’t know if I will be continuing the series . I have lost interest along the way .

Mackenzie finally gets a chance to look into her father's smarter a little bit closer. Of course, it helps that the Killer is now back active. I wasn't A big fan of everything lining up and neatly time together with a bow. Of course Mackenzie goes off on her own and manages to solve everything that left. Everyone else boggled. Curious to see where the author goes now that the mystery has been solved.
This is a fantastic series by an extremely talented author. I have read all of this series from #1 and am now reading #9. This one, #8, is especially fascinating and has some twists that will really surprise you. Highly recommend this series. If you start with #1 you won't be able to stop until you find ALL of the series.
These books are incredibly addictive and as you can see from my reading list, I am reading them at the rate of knots. I have been devouring this series and every other series this author has written. What I will note, is that the books seem to be getting shorter at the same price point and the editing leaves a lot to be desired. However, the stories just bring me back for more and more and more.
I was kind of disappointed with this book. Most of the series led up to the events in this book, so it was kinda hard seeing it just fall at the end. I feel like some of the other books in the series had a really good build up and go out with a bang, where this one had a good build up through the other books, but flopped at the end.
Suspenseful, action packed, hard to put down, mind boggling, intense action, page turning, word for word action packed plot, awesome plot awesome characters, great story I hope the MacKenzie White saga continues.
I have got hooked on the character of Blake Pierce, but the cost of his books are going up it seems. Since his books are only around 200 pages long I'm no longer willing to spend nearly as much on them as I would a full length novel.
One of the better Mackenzie stories. Finally we know what happened to her dad and how sad. .mold could make you do this? Mackenzie and Ellington, still not sure. Work partner yes, love partner...not sure.
Another good Blake White Novel!! This one is solving mystery of her father’s death. I feel bad leaving a three…. Wish I could give it closer to a 3.5! Excellent book but the plot wasn’t as interesting as some of the others. Definitely an essential book in the story line.
beautiful!!!! this is where you see Mackenzie gets raw and open with herself and others around her, especially Ellington. She finally nails the her dad's killer and solves a twenty-year-old case
Are you kidding me. Finally the solving of "the case that made Mackenzie White", her father's murder, and this is the best the author could come up with?
