It sorta assumes the reader has seen the anime, which I have not, but I have enough Pokémon background that I eventually catch up. I had my usual graphic reading problems of not remembering what people look like, which wasn’t helped by the instant clothing changes.

I played the crap out of Sun, so this is like coming home in a way. So many nostalgic feels for me. The art is looking a little different now I think. The characters are somehow cuter, even though they make a lot of frog faces now.

So, we meet pharmacist Moon and part-time job enthusiast Sun, and we kick off the volume with an It's pretty exciting right from the start.

I think it's pretty awesome that kids are given so much agency in the Poke-world. I mean, Moon is just a kid and yet she got to study pharmacy and is pretty great at it. How cool is that?

Do you enjoy the video game series Pokémon? Have you ever wanted to dive into the world and experience it like no other? Have you ever wanted to learn more about the characters and the Pokémon themselves? Well, this book does all of that! This book, Pokémon: Sun and Moon (Vol. 1), is a fantasy manga written by Hidenori Kusaka, illustrated by Satoshi Yamamoto, and is a fun, whimsical approach to the Pokémon world.
In this book, we are first introduced to a little boy named Sun who lives in a tropical-type land called the Alola region. He a sweet, energetic little boy who gets caught in some trouble along the way in his Pokémon journey. As he gets caught in trouble, he stumbles along a little girl new to the Alola region named Moon. Throughout this book, these two kids experience the Pokémon world together and have fun adventures, unlocking the secrets of the Alola region and the mythical Pokémon guardians.
I give this book 3.5 out of 5 stars. I really enjoy the whimsical and fun aspect to it, but it still has some flaws. I feel as if it moves just a little bit too fast, skipping over some important factors that move the story forward. Other than that, I really enjoyed this book. I enjoy how it expands the Pokémon world, giving the readers more information about the Pokémon and the (human) characters. I really enjoyed the introduction to Team Skull as well; I find them to be a very interesting addition to the story, making you want to know more about this mysterious villainous team and what they will do next.
So overall, this is a very fun and fast read. I totally recommend to any manga or Pokémon fan.

This was a short read for a Pokemon manga, which I think has now become the norm for Pokemon books. I come from a background where I read red, blue, green and yellow and they had more pages than this series and the last series, X&Y. So I guess we can call this a mini series then.

I love how the world of the Alola region functions. It shows how bright and interesting the characters and the traditions are. I love how the pokemon Sun has are cats and that Moon is a pharmacist who enjoys being awake at night. They have unique personalities and Sun has a motive that I don't yet understand. But it makes you think.

Also a legendary guardian has appeared before them. The big question is why? It feels like the manga may follow closely with the games but it's too early to tell in book one. But I enjoyed my time reading and the characters are drawn well. Looking forward to more world building in book 2.

It was okay, but nothing sensational. There’s a lot to establish so my expectations were low. Sun is kind of annoying, and Moon feels more mysterious than maybe she should be.

The Sun and Moon Manga follows characters Sun and Moon. Sun, despite being young, cares a lot about his financial future, and wants as much money as possible. On one of his many odd jobs, he meets Moon, who is a pharmacist and archer looking for Professor Kukui. Together, they find him but are entangled with the gang Team Skull and together fight a Pokemon battle.

I have never played Sun and Moon, but I have seen the anime. This is a definite upgrade. I was not a big fan of Ash Ketchum in the series, but Sun and Moon in the manga seem like very interesting characters! They both, despite being very different, have very apparent skills and assets, and clearly can make a very good team. However, I find it hard to believe that Moon is as qualified as a pharmacist as she is at such a young age. Perhaps a better word would be that she’s qualified in first aid? But then again this is a completely different world, so maybe there are different rules. Sun also seems familiar to other characters in the past, but I sort of like that about him.

Seeing as Gladion was on the cover, I was hoping to see him. But he is not present as well as other major characters from the game.

But overall, I cannot judge a series based on one short manga. It is only the beginning after all! I love the main characters so far and I am excited to see where their journeys take them. The manga is already more in depth than any Pokemon media I’ve been exposed to so far, which is why I gave the manga a 4 out of 5 stars. .

Re-read January 2023: I got this series for Christmas and read this one on a sick day off school.

Read April 2022: I liked this one; it ends in a good place for the next one. My school library has the first 11 and I want to read them all!
