A young couple buys their dream house and find that the home comes with an unexpected extra: a black cat roaming around the outside. They learn that it was the pet of the home's former owner, a woman who was rumored to be a witch, and disaster awaits for the kind-hearted couple who at first were happy to care for the old feline. See what can go wrong when a cat decides that it doesn't like you!

Amanda and Aaron move into their new house. Soon they are haunted by an old mean black cat. Whan talking to the neighbours Amanda comes to know that the name of the cat is Jeffy. Her former owner was a witch. The attacks of the cat get more aggressive. Who wins in the end? Amanda and her husband? Or will Jeffy prevail? The tale had some fine elements but was more young adult orientated material. It was okay, but nothing too spectacular.
As a cat lover and black cat owner, I'm a sucker for tales about felines. JEFFY is a gruesome little revenge tale, of sorts. Though I enjoyed it, I would've enjoyed a bit more insight into the motivations of the characters, including the cat. I kept expecting it to delve a bit deeper into the supernatural history and explore those aspects in greater detail. This was a fun read, and I look forward to reading more by Canon.
I grabbed this short story on KU for a bit of an instant gratification read. I was not disappointed. It's under 40 pages so I hesitate to write too much in the event of leaving spoilers. A couple buys a house and find that the previous owner's cat is still roaming the property. They decide to adopt her as an outdoor cat, but Jeffy has other plans.
While not extreme horror, this is graphic and has depictions of animals being harmed, albeit in the form of self defense. I have since directed my own kitty to consider this a cautionary tale if I should pass before he does.
