As the future of Dragonis balances on a knife’s edge, heroes of all kinds step forward, working together to fulfil the dragons’ lifelong dream. Kitt, who has been overlooked all his life, suddenly finds himself the center of attention, which is a place he has no desire to be. Scared and unsure, he has no idea what he’s about to face and looks to cling to something… anything to help him come to terms with his new role as the Summoner. What surprises him most is finding a kindred spirit in one of the most powerful men who exists. Someone who truly sees him, understands him, and can help him. Surrounded by love and a new sense of family and kinship, he becomes who he was always meant to be. Sasha can’t believe he has found someone who can look past everything he is— his power, his age, his status— and see the real him, the part that he’s hidden from everyone for so long. Being one of the Powers That Be has kept him apart from the world, becoming isolated from both man and his fellow Powers as he straddles the two parts of his life. With the coming together of heroes and the formation of rare bonds, Dragonis is getting closer than ever. Prophecies abound and the fear of what they predict lies like a heavy cloak on the kingdom. As more dragons seek out our heroes, they realize fate, the universe, and some mystical power must be guiding them. As the past blends with the present to shape the future, failure isn't an option. Dragonis must rise if the dragons are to have a home. The Summoner holds the key to everything, but does he have the strength to succeed and still hold on to the man that he loves?
I wanted and expected to love book 3 of this series, and it was fine (mostly) for the first 400 pages or so, then all of the totally unnecessary, repetitive, long-winded speeches got VERY grating.
Fuck me. Those long-winded speeches went ON AND ON AND ON. Plus, you finished one, then there was ANOTHER one 2 pages later. Ugh. No wonder the book was 676 pages long.
In regards to the characters, by the end of this third book, the character count had to be getting up to around 40 people and dragons to keep track of, which was a wee bit much.
And sweet baby Jesus, SO MANY DECLARATIONS of... well, EVERYTHING.
It was like all of the characters were Millennials and the author had to keep feeding them HOURLY affirmations that they were good, worthy, attractive, loved, blah-diddy-blah-diddy-blah. :- /
By the time I hit 500 pages, with still 160+ to go, after the whole invasion of Calias scene, it felt as though the book was *done*. Even though Dragonis hadn't been brought back yet.
Honestly, by that point I'd started skimming every single one of those long-assed speeches. Even if the book wasn't done, I soooooo was.
I loved the dragons, loved the MC's, loved the supporting cast, but truly loathed the repetitive, boring speeches, which killed it for me in this book, so 2.5 stars at most this time around.
So yeaaaaaaaah, pretty much everything that JadeSarah said in her review:
'“You feel it, don’t you? You feel how much I love you,” Sasha rasped out.'
I wanted to love this. I had every expectation to love it. I was so sure I would. But I didn't and that saddens me. This series isn't perfect. This author's style isn't perfect but I love it. I love this series and always anxious for more. But this just did not work for me.
I don't want this review to turn into a rant of negativity so I'll*try*to keep it as short as I can.
I think this book's downfall was that it was WAY TOO LONG. And because of that added with the fact this is a fantasy with a destiny theme to it, there was too much happening, things got repetitive, too many characters in one space, I read this book and I know what happened but I can't tell you if all the plot points lined up, matched/followed/flowed smoothly. I know people aren't fond of cliffhangers but I seriously think this would have really benefitted being broke up in two halves. This was the final book so shit was getting real surrounding the dragons, dragonis, and the three destined to bring them back, which included a couple of sub plots, villains, friendships, relationships and the journey to this destiny being fulfilled . There was a lot going on, it got exhausting to just read this and that's not how reading should be, I end up skipping a couple of chapters at the end. I didn't want to, but damn, I had to. It was draining me and I hated that because I love reading this series.
The relationship between Kitt and Sasha failed because of above reasons. If this book had been split into two I feel like there could have been development time for both the romance and the fantasy element. Kitt and Sasha just felt forced from the beginning, almost as if to get it out of the way for the other stuff to be able to happen.
I still enjoyed reading them but didn't feel the real connection with them. But I looooove these dragons. Their personalities coming out and how they communicate and get fierce and protective and are still cute and hilarious. I love reading them. As far as I know this is the end of this series but I feel like, or at the very least think there should be a spin off of some degree because it didn't feel like the end where the dragons are concerned, especially for some, like Frode and Co, it feels like the beginning of something. And if there is more to come, I will absolutely be reading because I love these dragons a whole lot.
The world building is amazing, the characters are well filled out and the storyline captivating. BUT THE FREAKING SPEECHES! Seriously, it’s a problem. Every character gives multiple positive affirmation speeches ALL THE DAMN TIME!
Syrupy sweet, lovey-dovey I love you so much I must regurgitate it all over your face multiple times a day SPEECHES. I get especially annoyed when these speeches happen right in the middle of an action or event that will move the story forward. Battle raging around you? Dragon injured? Stop so we may once again regurgitate how perfect the characters are for each other or how great everyone is and how love will, is, has made the world so much better with (insert person, dragon, place, thing) in it.
She needs a new editor. I can’t say it any differently. She needs someone to reign her in and cut the fluff. I think you could cut the speeches out, lose about 40% of the page count and have an EPIC story.
Yes we do want the characters to fall in love, form bonds or friendship and family but there needs to be a balance. We do want the characters to be good, kind and loving and we do want them to be emotionally invested in their actions but NOBODY NEEDS TO CONTINUALLY VOMIT THEIR LOVE ALL OVER THE STORYLINE.
I’ve read other reviews of her books and am not the only reader with this problem. I’m not the only reader that ends up skimming pages of speeches or checking the page count to see how long we have until the storyline moves forward again. I have friends who I know love fantasy, sci-fi and especially dragons stories but I hesitate to recommend Hannah Walker’s books because of the never ending continuous positive affirmation declarations of love, friendship and family. Look at me, speeching all over this review. Annoying isn’t it?
So, if you’ve gotten this far let’s talk some about this actual book. Summoner's Dance is the third book in the Elements of Dragonis series and where we meet Kittrin who is the Summoner, the third key in bringing back Dragonis, the city of the Dragons. Like Rill in Booker's Song and Eli in Seeker's Portrait Kitt had no idea he is needed to bring Dragonis back to the dragons. He was thrown out of his home at the age of 15 by his parents and grew up in the forest. We also meet Sashastor. He is a Power That Be who is stripped of some of his powers and sent to live among the humans for meddling. Then there are the dragons. Oh the dragons are amazing creatures. Frode the dragonling, Neela and Grith from the previous books and here we meet Tasas and Jenkins who bond with Kitt and Sasha.
There is betrayal, intrigue, battles with griffins and harpies as well as mages with magic flying everywhere and the Riders with swords and daggers. I was enthralled with the world building and the storyline, the dragons and battles to bring back Dragonis, right at the edge of my seat, up all night ignoring chores and Hubby until (eye roll) another speech ruined the pacing and skimmed.
All in all I lean toward really loving the series as well as Hannah Walker other series but I know going in what to expect and that I’ll be smothered in positive affirmations.
Please Hannah Walker if you check your reviews at all, reign it in. Yes you can have too much of a good thing.
February 2022 The long winding speeches still aren't my favorites. But I loved the story anyway. Also, kudos to the author for not killing off some of her characters, because that's what's "normal" in fantasy novels. I loved this book even more, because of it. This way it felt uplifting and left me with the warm feeling that the good had won against the bad.
January 2020 I'm still in love with this book and series. But this time around I skimmed some of the speeches given in this book. Oops.
February 2019 There's no words...I'm speechless and so in love with the Elements of Dragonis series.
Summoner's Dance was the third book of the series. And it was a wonderful book. There's even more happening is this book than before. All the plotlines come together to bring Dragonis back.
This book kept me busy for 2 days...I couldn't put it down. I just had to know what would come next...I was excited, happy, sad, angry and so in love. This book put me on a emotional rollercoaster.
I'm happy to have read this and I'm going to re-read it again.
(My only teensy niggle...insta-love?! - But in the end I have to say, who cares. Sasha and Kitt were just too cute. Kitt developed the most of all the characters. He found himself and that he had a strong personality and others can't make him do things he doesn't want too.)
After the previous two books in this series I was anticipating this book and I wasn’t let down. The book has everything I love, fantastic well rounded, well written characters, action, suspense, bad guys, hero’s, highs, lows and romance.
The book is fast paced and carries you along on a fantastical journey. I laughed and cried and thoroughly enjoyed the read.
If you haven’t read any of this series you really need to start with book 1 as they need to be read in order to appreciate the intricacies of the world Hannah Walker has created.
I would highly recommend this book, it’s really fantastic and worth reading
HW could have done with a better editor. The central story in itself is interesting, many dramatic moments, but as the cast of characters grew larger, the more time HW spends repeating what just happened. Dramatic discovery happens to one character, three hour meeting to tell the rest of the characters what happened. Next occurance, another three hour meeting to talk about it. Pare that sh*t down! HW also tends to like writing epic stirring speeches like one would see in a football movie where the coach gives the team the motivation to go out and win the big game. That's fine and all, if I happens at the crux of the story. Once. Once... Every speech she writes is that speech. Which means in the long run, any kind of emotion she's trying to rouse with the speech is eventually met with a "yeah yeah, whatever," and an eyeroll. Either that, or she'll write this long declaration of love, just in case you missed the romance part of the story, which doesn't really seem to exist. You would think there would be some complexity to a story where a celestial figure and a mere mortal hook up, but, no. Not really much at all. Just kinda happens, and the next thing you know, "I know it's fast, but..." long declaration of love. The plot kinda falls apart at the end. To me it doesn't make any sense that once the Powers capture the rogue who made Dragonis disappear to begin with, Kitt still has to go through the summoning process to bring it back. Why? Can't the Powers just send it back? No, no, apparently not. Starting, probably from the introduction of Abaradin, things just get ridiculous. Well, to tell the truth, I also think it's pretty ridiculous that at no point through the entire book until the end does Kitt have any clue as to how to work his Treas magic, nor is there any guidance from anyone, not even his Treas father or his Powers mate. The final battle at the end, starring Eli's mother as the ultimate boss to defeat, reaches the pinnacle of ridiculousness. Seriously, you're doing to take ground troops in to dragon central and attack a bunch of dragons? Who can fly? And breathe fire/ice/lightning/rock? Not just one dragon, but hundreds. Had I been walking in that infantry, I would have shived the person leading then quickly deserted. The whole Grith sequence at the end also kinda pissed me off as well. Let's make the baby dragon cry again and milk every last dramatic moment out of this story that should have ended hundreds of pages ago. So, yeah, a mostly disappointing end to the series. It would have been so much better at half the length and with a better thought out ending. Dialog the way people normally talk would have been a huge bonus as well. Skip the whole series.
(Update - had to go back and drop to 3 stars on GR too.) This was a 3.5 rounded up for GR, but down to 3 Stars for my personal ratings. Even with the issues I had, I still feel it is a better than average story especially for m/m.
I love the dragons, m/c's, and supporting characters from the good side. The story arc was still good overall, but I was thrown out of the story sooooo many times. This was not a problem in the first two books.
There is a certain irony to my issue which was the sheer amount of ongoing highly repetitive monologs. I struggle with being concise; while my teachers gave everyone else minimum pages required - I was given maximums. It is also why reviews are such torture for me. But I do not think even I would have had more than entire page (multiple times) of just various ways to say how important someone is or why the dragons deserved there own home etc... How did it get past an editor? How many times and ways do we have to be told the same things? It got to be almost comical. It was also not nearly this bad in the previous 2 from this series.
The other issue I had was how we never really received an update and prognosis on one of the major dragon riders injured from Con's team. It was kind of like the disappearing princesses never seen or heard from in any of the books other than a couple of references.
Despite such, It has a solid ending with a definite HEA. Even though I was disappointed in the verbal diarrhea, I still am glad I read this story and enjoyed it overall.
This series began as one of my absolute favorites. However, the last installment left me a little disappointed. As Sasha and Kitt were both outsiders I think a lot of the banter and camaraderie got left to the side, which I loved in the first 2 books of the series. I also found myself skimming to get through a lot of repetitive dialogue. What was great and what still makes this a great series overall was the action! So many battles and when the final battle comes I was NOT disappointed. The overall story arc is great and really took a few turns I didn’t see the coming.
Bottom line is this last book could have used some more editing to streamline the story and there were a couple of continuity errors. I still think it’s worth the read and I can see myself coming back to read this series over again in all its exciting, cheesy glory.
★★★★☆ ~ 4 Stars I feel like this took me forever to finish, as I am writing my review, I realized the page count wasn't in GR book details and I checked Amazon, and it's a whopping 676 pages. This was the completion of the series and all the threads were tied up in a tidy knot. However, it felt like forever.........
With that said, it was a satisfying read and we revisited our couples and Kitt and Sasha, our newest couple. The dragons are always amusing, Frode has a few surprises up his sleeve, err arm? The mystery of the disappearance of Dragonis is solved and a new future is on the horizon. Did I say it was long?
I am so in love with Kitt and Sasha. I have re-read this book numerous times and I still can't get enough of it. I really like how vulnerable Kitt was. Watching him grow and become more confident in himself as the story goes on was beautiful. Sasha was perfectly written for Kitt. The world that Hannah Walker created was done extremely well. She created characters you wanted to root for and secondary characters that enriched the story. This book had me laughing as well as crying in some parts. I really like how Sasha helped coax Kitt out of his shell. And the dragons will forever be a favorite.
The best of the series. There isn't a thing I didn't love about this book. It had me filled with emotion through the whole thing. I was laughing one minute and the next wondering if there was any way possible the team could get through the forces against them. The dragons are amazing, and I fell in love with the new ones. This is a full adventure that you won't regret going on. I highly recommend this one.
I love the world created, but did not love the long epic speeches by all the characters. They are suppose to be like gems in the book. Instead it was like sand in a desert. Everywhere. I still like the author though. I like the worlds she create. I just wish she would stop having her characters monologue so much.
I’ve been waiting for this book, and jumped on it as soon as I learned it was out. I’ve loved this series and the world that Ms. Walker has created. I love the dragons and other characters. My most favorite though is the young dragon Frode. I adore this character. We need more Frode in the future. Please, please, please make it happen Ms. Walker!
Now to the current story. First, I want to warn you that you need to read the first two books in the series first. There is a large cast of characters, and a lot going on and you would miss how this story has developed over the course of those two installments. I loved all three books and was hooked from almost the first page of the first two. Book three was no different.
We’ve moved on in the story to the tale of the Summoner. We knew this third major character was coming and we got hints in book two, but in book three we get the full details. Kitt is a young man who has had a hard life. Cast out by his family, and narrowly missing being beaten or maybe even killed by his father’s friends when he was driven from his village, he took refuge in the great forest, where he befriended an ancient dragon.
Now they are both in the forefront of the attempt to bring back Dragonis. One of the Powers That Be, named Sasha, has developed feelings for Kit, and they are returned. But how can a cast out young man and a member of the Powers That Be ever go further than friends?
I enjoyed this quite long story. There is a ton of stuff crammed into the one book, and I’m not sure that it might not have almost been two books. I’m pretty sure the characters kept talking in the author’s head, and forcing her to keep adding to the story, so we’ll forgive her. I think maybe she should have taken a cue from Douglas Adam’s with his Hitchhiker’s Trilogy, where he jokingly labeled one of his books with “The fifth book in the increasingly inaccurately named Hitchhikers Trilogy”. Here’s hoping that Ms. Walker follows a similar path!
I adored this book and series, and very highly recommend all three of them to anyone who enjoys a good dragon tale, with magic and good versus evil plot lines.
Rating: 4.5 I thought a very fitting end to the Dragonis trilogy. Loved all the characters. Wasn’t sure I was going to like Sasha at the start, but I really did love his character. I thought he made a wonderful mate with Kitt. Kitt on the other had drove me crazy at certain points. He waffled between being a strong character to being insecure quite a bit. I guess that was understandable given his background, but it did drive me crazy somewhat.
This story is long. Longer than I expected, but it kept me enthralled and I didn’t mind the length at all. So many things happen throughout the story. I am actually sad that this appears to be the final installment. I am hoping that maybe the author will write anther book in this world. There is one particular couple that I would love see get together and get their HEA.
If you have read the first two book in the series, I really think you will like this book. If you haven’t, I wouldn’t start here. This is wonderful book set in the world of mages and dragons that I highly recommend.
What an amazing series , chock full of so many woderful moments.
Throughout these books my heart was full of such joy, and total wonder.
This book was the culmination of the efforts of the Booker, Seeker, and the Summoner. Together with the Dragons, Riders, and a plethora of weird and wonderful characters. Not forgetting the villains, and the extraordinary magic, that has made this series such an unforgetful and truly awesome experience. All for the love of Dragonis.
I loved so many aspects of this series, so much detail and depth went into the descriptions. The majestic Dragons, the heart pounding battle scenes and repeated affirmation of love. There was so much magic in lots of forms, and a legacy of ancient and proud Dragons. Again the star of the show was Frode, so young, so wise and crucial to everything.
Warning this is the final book in a trilogy! You need to read Booker's Song and The Seeker before reading Summoner's Dance.
The Elements of Dragonis trilogy concludes in the longest story of the series. Kitt, the Summoner, struggles with his destiny. Rejected by his family, forced from his home he has survived in the wilds with only Einarr an ancient dragon of Dragonis. The Booker, Rill, The Seeker, Prince Eli, and now The Summoner Kitt most work together if they want to restore Dragonis, the Lost home and empire of the Dragons. Sasha, an exiled Power that Be, will stand with them. Kitt struggles both with his place and his attraction to Sasha. Frode returns and makes for a delightful bundle of chaos. New dragons join with the previous ones as the characters race to complete the return of Dragonis, before they're overwhelmed by foes.
Being back in dragonis was such a amazing place to be transported back too I loved
My emotions were everywhere I laughed I cried in fell in love all over again it was perfect
Every scene in kitt and Sasha's journey the connection was so intense the fight scenes were addictive i was hooked from beginning to end
In kitt and sashas journey you get twists turns love tears laughter intensity heart stopping moments heart pounding moments which are a page turner every step of the way you are hooked from page to page but with Hannah walker that is what you get she is wonderful and her storylines never fail to amaze me
We also get to see the other amazing characters from the previous books of the series and meet some new ones too
Iam really looking forward to what's next I would recommend the elements of dragonis series
This whole series was absolutely amazing and I enjoyed every damn second of it.
The story was written well and flowed smoothly. The world building was incredible and the dragons were majestical, funny yet fierce.
The baby dragons were adorable and their innocence was captured beautifully.
All the characters were amazing and I enjoyed getting to know each and every one.
I was definitely intrigued by King Welan and Vis - it’s a shame there wasn’t much about their closeness in the story. You get drips and drabs of them getting close, but I was left wanting more.
This was an action packed, emotional yet fun journey and I truly enjoyed it. I love the author’s writing style which is why I’m adding her to my favourite author list.
This series is unique and well told. The characters are well-formed and draw you into their lives. My only complaint is that the books (all three) could have used a good proof-reader/editor before publication.
I've read this series nearly every year since I purchased the books in 2019 and it's as delightful today as it was the first time I read it. Magic. Dragons. Love. Who could ask for more? If you've read any of Hannah's Avanti series, you'll find this one quite different (fantasy instead of science fiction), but it's just as enjoyable.
By far the Summoner's Dance was my favorite. I always get pulled into stories i read but this series had me completely enthralled. I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation for what would happen with Dragonis and all the dragons. Frode stole the story with his freezing, playing around and beautiful heart. Kitt and Sasha were awesome together. I love stories about Dragons. You will not be disappointed with these stories, you will fall in love. Now how about a novella for Wilen and Vix....
Love it!!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The storyline is fantastic and the characters are loving and strong. I gave it five stars because that's what it deserved. To all my fellow readers, if you've read this first book in this series, you'll enjoy all the books in this series thus far. I hope there will be at least one more book in the series . Keep them coming Hannah. DB
I thoroughly enjoyed the books in the Elements of Dragonis series. I really like this authors writing style and the story sucks you in and doesn't let go. I love all the characters but especially Frode who is just the cutest dragonling ever and felt the ending of this book was just perfect.
The whole series is wonderful and I have enjoyed reading it. The characters are full of life, love and adventure. The Dragons are some of the best characters and their antics and interactions with the humans is both hilarious and heart wrenching. If you like Dragons, adventure, heroic deeds and fun filled reads you will definitely want to read this series.
Ok Kitt got in my nerves.... I'm not good with unnecessary guilt it gets annoying real quick...also the characters inner dialog was just too much...it was to much going on as well... I still will read this author for sure ... This book just got on my nerves... The other books I were way better...disappointing and this was the last book in the series...
A great ending to a fascinating series. The ending to the Elements of Dragonis was well worth waiting for, I'm so going to miss Frode but maybe we'll see more from him and the gang someday. 🤞🤞
